This is my kind of place. We went to Moose's strictly because of Yelp. We had just spent all day in Glacier and now we were Kalispell for the night and desperately wanted a place to kick back and have a great time. Moose's was the answer. From the outside this place is quiet and kind of misleading. But when you walk in it's a pizza party beer bash Montana style. There is sawdust and peanut shells on the floor and the whole place is wooden with people's initials and names carved into the furniture and walls. There wasn't a single inch of wood that hadn't been carved into. Even the picture frames were marked. The staff is very friendly as I found out when I asked how the operation works. First you choose your seating. Then you go up to the food window in the back and place your order and pay for it. There is a seating chart posted at the window so you can tell the server/cook what table to send your food to. Third, go to the bar and order some drinks. They have endless beers, cocktails, and most non-alcoholic drinks you can think of. When your food is ready a staff member will bring your food over but you have to get your own drinks each time. The bar is where you get the peanuts for the tossing. The prices at Moose's are rather cheap, maybe because I'm from California, so it definitely feels like you got your dollars worth. The atmosphere is fun and loud and there are plenty of TV's with all the games on. There are lots of locals and slow-pitch softball teams chugging pitchers of Moose's Drool. Iced Tea's were .60 cents. We had a blast and next time we go to Glacier it will be set in stone to make stop at Moose's. read more

And based on the number of people in there at 11am on a weekday, I'd say it is certainly a favorite spot for locals to hang out. I've been there twice. Both times, to pick up a bunch of pizzas to take to a luncheon. Both times, I was dressed in slacks and a button-up shirt. And both times, when the Asian guy wearing business casual walks into the bar, it's like a scene from the movies where the record stops and all heads turn. Um, let's just say I won't be hanging out here when I have some time to kill. Don't get me wrong - I know that everyone has a dirty dive bar somewhere that they just absolutely love for sentimental reasons. This one ain't mine. The pizza at Moose's is pretty good. Don't be expecting a NY style pie or anything like that. It's Montana good. Which is hard to describe, even though I've been living here for a year already. First of this place has serious character. Sawdust on the floors no waiters... it's AWESOME. The locals are friendly and the beer is cheap only $7.50 a pitcher! The pizza was awesome as well and reasonably priced. They even have personal pizzas for picky eaters (my gf only wants veggie pizza even though she jacks mine as well). But if ever in Kalispell this stop is a MUST. Place your order from the window by the bar and make sure to get some peanuts. You can throw your shells on the floor! The juke box is one of the new internet juke box's and has all the latest and greatest songs. They only serve beer and wine but have a large selection of beers on tap. read more

This place is probably 40% about the food, 60% about the experience. It's not that the food isn't good (it is) but the food wouldn't be the same if you got it somewhere else. I might revise that ratio if I get a chance to go back and try some other things on the menu. I went for dinner on a Friday afternoon and the place was packed, unsurprisingly. Fortunately, I fly solo so I found an open seat at the bar, where the very friendly bartenders were serving up 8oz-ish craft/microbrew drafts for $2. The guy next to me was ordering PBR's for $1.10. I recommend the Beltian (Belgian, but from Belt, MT. Get it? It's funnier after you've had a few) White if you're into wheat beers. You order your food from a counter in the corner of the building next to the bar, conveniently next to the ATM (this place is cash-only). That corner gets pretty crowded but you won't have to stay there long. Once you pay for your food you take your ticket back to where you were sitting and they'll bring it out to you while you have a few more beers and some peanuts. This isn't Five Guys: You have to pay for your peanuts, but $1.50 will get you enough peanuts to make you sick of peanuts. Again, this isn't Five Guys: Just drop the shells on the floor. The pizzas are hand-tossed thin crust jobs and they don't skimp on the toppings, especially the cheese. The usual condiments (Parmesan, crushed peppers, Sriracha) are available. Give it a couple of minutes to stand or have your beer close to hand because they come straight out of the oven to the roof of your mouth. The crust is crispy and firm, and apparently there's a gluten-free option if that's important to you. If you have celiac disease, I'm not sure how well they keep the regular and gluten-free flour separated. Flour gets EVERYWHERE in any pizza kitchen, especially a small one like Moose's. Just a heads-up. The bartenders are nice and make old guy jokes (you know what I'm talking about). There's a buttload of TV's around the bar and it looks like they get every sports-oriented channel available. On a busy night it's a bit loud but still not hard to have a conversation with someone sitting next to you. Overall, good food and a good place to enjoy it. read more

The high rating on this makes me laugh. Tourist! Moose's Saloon is a dump. Relegated to the local 'good ol boys' and tourist. The charm comes from the fact that it has resisted all change since this little railroad town first sprung up in 1891. The pizzas that everyone speaks so highly of is made by 15 year olds. Is it really that good? Be bold, try it yourself... I dare you. Your beer flows from taps around a rectangular bar similar to cheers without the modern makeover. Sawdust form the active logging mills litters the floor along with bowls of peanut shells. You know that fancy knife you like to carry around on your belt to signify your a man... heres your chance to really put it use. Get going and carve your name into the table top after a few beers and fresh pizza made from stale cheap ingredients. Oh yea. The good old days are back. But really. There is something to be said for a place that is largely immune to time and change. That captures something the ambiguous legends of old we don't get to see very often. For that I would say go in and have a few cheap beers with friends. Find a shadowy table to use, not so much for the meal but for the camaraderie and laughs that you are certain to share with some really great people. We ordered a pizza for pick up. We are from out town so not familiar with local establishments. The pizza was delicious but we ordered using our smart phone. No where on their page says that they are cash only. I had to use their ATM which charges $2.00 for a transaction plus what my bank charges. Not that it is that big of a deal but you would think in this age of plastic that they would note on their website they are cash only or in the least post it at the register and given me a chance to walk across the street for cash. Its funny to read other people's reviews sometimes... Moose's pizza is not your typical pizza. And thats why its great. Its not the slimy floppy pizza people call "New York" pizza which is never quite as good as you'd get it in New York subsequently... It's also not the deep dish pizza known as "Chicago" pizza. Nope. No-sir-ee It is a piece of dough that is completely covered in whatever cheese they may have laying around along with however flippin' toppings you want on there. Yes, its a crispy crust, its also a cheesy wonderful mess that will not disappoint you, unless you're not firing on all six cylinders... Go here, eat here, drink here, and love it. I love this place!! It's too bad Boston is too lame to have something like this! So basically, there's sawdust on the floor and every square inch of the place is carved, like with people's names, oh and its dark and loud. So you need to know how to order....Have someone find a table and stay while yo go to the counter and order your food. the pizza is delicious and for 2 salads and a 12" was less than $20. The pizza was delicious so I could and should have eaten a 12" by myself, but I didn't :( We also got sandwiches to go which sounded amazing. Best pizza I've had west of the Mississippi. And it's a bargain - I bought a small one to go (for the next day). Booze selection - awesome. And it comes in a Goblet. I walked in, slightly disoriented, and asked the bartender what beer on tap he likes. Turns out, he doesn't drink beer. I immediately fell in love with this place. Moose's is a dive pizza restaurant and bar that is proud to be a dive. I have a lot of family in the valley that swears by Moose's pizza. We like getting fresh tomatoes on our pizza after it cooks, and Moose's does that for us. To be honest though I'm not a huge fan of their pizza. It's good, but not great like you would expect from all the hype Moose's gets. I would give Moose's 3 stars, but the place is so damn interesting you have to give them a bonus star. You just throw your peanut shells on the sawdust covered floor. I don't really see Moose's as a family place, but families are more than welcome. You need to get there well before 5pm on Friday's and Saturday's otherwise getting a table is tough. For me I find the ordering kind of disorganized, but once you get the hang of it there's no problems. The staff is hit and miss. Somedays they are sweet and wonderful and other days you feel like a leper. You never know how your service is going to be, but in a masochistic way that is kind of the charm to the place. Saw all the reviews and had to try it. Took awhile to find the right door and when we did we were a little scared. We ventured in and grabbed a booth. There was sawdust and peanut shells littering the floor. We grabbed some beers and peanuts. The peanuts cost the same price as the beer, but that is because they have cheap beer. An there is a good variety. As for the pizza it was not so good. This is more of a dive bar and a good one. But not a place to dine. read more

Whether you're a local or visiting on vacation, Moose's is one of the places you have got to try! The pizza is amazing. Inside it can get crowded but I have always tried to go in summer so that could be why. There is real sawdust on the ground so it is a real authentic western feel to wherever you are from. The pizza is all homemade and you can definitely taste the difference. They have gluten free pizza and a lot of beer if you drink or like beer. The atmosphere is just super adorable and my favorite part of this place. I have heard that this was one of Heath Ledger's local hangouts when he was in the area. Recently found out but hadn't known that Michelle Williams (Ledger's wife) grew up in Kalispell. So that puts the two pieces together, but definitely not only a fun place to go but some of the best pizza in town. read more

If you're looking for a dive bar, look no further. Classic "saloon" all the way, from the saloon doors to the peanut shells on the floor. It's dark, it's dingy and it's delicious. Pizza, that is. Don't grab a seat (if you can find one) and expect a waitress to saunter up and take your order. It's self service baby, so walk your ass up to the bar and select one of about 15 draft beers - most of them priced at $2 a glass or $10 a pitcher. Be sure to grab a dish of peanuts to add your personal touch to the floors of sawdust. If you have time, you can carved your name into a wall, ceiling beam or picture frame. Moose's has been here since 1957 and I'm sure if you spent some time looking at all the signatures and carvings, you could find a few that say "I'm going to Woodstock" and "Vote for Nixon" just to show the staying power of this Kalispell "signature spot." Even the seat cushions have been carved into and/or written in. Order your own pizza in the back and they will bring it out to you when it's ready. Just be sure to tell them which table you're sitting at and someone will bring it to you. If you're looking for fancy wood-fired oven pizzas and a glass of Malbeck, go back to California or the East Coast. You should definitely try this place out, this is where the locals go. Friendly people, a lot of joking around and conversation. Sit at the bar if you want to socialize because the people are friendly and unreserved. We had a nice conversation with the man sitting by us at the bar. The place has ambience, spirit and character. Moose's Saloon has a reputation as a must try experience if you are in Kalispel. It is not fancy - well, actually it is a dive. No outside signs, no markings on the doors, just a brownish red building sitting on Main Street. But we had to try it - and there was a playoff game, so we combined three of our favorite activities - beer, pizza and sports TV. We finally found the right door, and entered. It is small, crowded, dimly lit and something crunchy was on the floor. WTF. After finding an open table and crunching over to it, we discovered that you could buy peanuts for $1.50 and throw the shells on the floor. That sounded like fun, so we waited. No waitstaff - all orders were placed and picked up at the bar (except pizza). So we ordered pitchers of beer, and peanuts, and happily littered the floor along with everyone else. And yes, they have Moose Drool on tap - a local Montana dark beer that goes great with pizza and peanuts. We ordered several different types of large pizzas. They are ordered at the pizza window, and they deliver to your table. Not great, not bad - but better than average. By the end of the game, we noticed that all the pizza was gone - so it must have been better than we thought. Fun place - and we will return on our next golf trip there - even if it's only for the Moose Drool. Oh, and by the way, they do have a Moose head on the wall!!! read more

Hey, it's not just for tourists though, I can't think of any of my local Montana friends that would ever pass up an invitation to meet me for a beer at Moose's. Moose's is also known for their outstanding pizza. Any one of their delicious creations will satisfy your pizza craving. And for you GF folks, Moose's offers a Gluten Free crust, so even you can experience what everyone is talking about. When is the best time to go to Moose's? Hmm, let's see, after coming out of the park, after a day on a raft, after fly fishing, after a hike or backpack, after skiing, after a day on the lake, after a golf game, after work. Do you see where I'm going with this? Anytime is a good time visit Moose's. There's no parking on the street, so go around to the parking lot behind the building and enter through the the door in the back as well. Walk down a hallway and then sit at the bar in front of you or turn to the right and get a table or turn to the left and order a pizza...I suggest the sauerkraut and Canadian Bacon as a topping. No, I'm not kidding, the combo will not disappoint you. You'll need to order you beer from the bartender as they don't have wait staff. What ever you decide to buy, you're going to need cash as they don't take plastic. They do have a cash machine inside though. If you're a tourist and you bypass a visit to Moose's, you've done yourself a disservice. Go...have fun! read more

If you want to have a good time with really, really cheap beer and overpriced mediocre pizza, this is it. All the locals are here. All if them. And I say that because it was full and I can't imagine there are that many tourist here. It looks closed and empty when you walk up. But it's not! $2 craft beers. $1.50 coors/ect. Pitchers are like 10 or 7. A large pepperoni pizza was $16. The pizza it self was half overdone and kind of cardboard like. But obviously you aren't going here for excellent pizza, your here because the are basically freely giving away beer and there is SAWDUST on the floor. As we were leaving this old guy (70s, for those if you who are 40-50 and wondering if this young guy is classifying you as "old") was chugging a pitcher if beer. Everyone was chanting. Everyone! Children. Middle aged women. Even the seeming indifferent bar staff were chanting. Overall I'd go here often if it was in my town. read more
