Lakeland's newest ice cream shop is officially open, with their grand opening being May 8! Mootown Scoops is in a fantastic location right off of Lake Morton along East Palmetto Street. It's across the street from the public library, Lake Morton Black & Brew, and the AGB (aka Polk) Museum of Art. It's in close quarters to Misterfish and the Peach House, so there's activities, food & drink within super close walking distance to then top your time off with some delicious ice cream. The shop is pretty small, and it got fairly busy when we went so I'm curious to see how the line holds up. The register is closer to the door but you order on the far opposite end, but it's very narrow so I can see it getting extremely crowded even with a dozen or so people in line. But now, the ice cream, it was great! I was impressed that they have 3-4 non-dairy options which is more than the average ice cream shop. You can also choose from a homemade waffle cone, affogato, or croque glacé (ice cream sandwich of sorts). The croque glacé is a fun and unique option. I tried the espresso chip which will satisfy any coffee lover. However, the gator trail is a really popular one with chocolate fudge and peanut butter cups in vanilla ice cream. Oh, and you can also get a milkshake too. There's minimal outdoor seating but not much room to add more. You can park on either side of the building or across the street in the library parking lot.

Mootown's ice cream donut sandwich is next-level delicious! I had the Strawberry Swirl -- super creamy and flavorful, perfectly paired with a warm, fluffy donut. The shop is stylish, the staff is friendly, and the flavor selection is amazing. Definitely worth a visit if you're in Lakeland!

Open since May-ish, a great new ice cream spot close to the library and a skip from the lake with swans if you wish to stroll with your ice cream. Shop is owned by the bbq "Blue Dog" at the Joinery. Great affogato, lovely croque glace, great ice cream, cute shop, friendly staff. Perfect place for that great hot weather treat. I have been several times with consistent happiness and satisfaction.

Banana cream pie and triple peanut butter ice cream.

The key lime and espresso chip were excellent. Can't wait go back and try a few of the other flavors.

Very pricey. They charge extra $1.25 for a cone in addition to high price for ice cream. Scoops were very small.

Adorable new shop with a good amount of diary free vegan options! Also, their dulce de leche flavor is amazing!

Bright Ice is the kind of place that reminds you what truly great ice cream should taste like. I…read morewent with the Kahlua Espresso and the Oat Around the World, and both completely exceeded expectations. The Kahlua Espresso was next-level -- rich, bold, and packed with real espresso beans that delivered an authentic coffee flavor in every bite. If you're a coffee lover, this is not optional. The Oat Around the World was just as impressive, loaded with generous chunks of homemade oatmeal cookie bars made right in the restaurant. It made every scoop feel indulgent while still perfectly balanced. The texture, creativity, and attention to detail really set Bright Ice apart from your typical ice cream shop. What truly elevated the experience was the outstanding service. The young lady Faith behind the counter was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable about every flavor, and more than willing to let me sample as many of their unique offerings as I wanted. She was patient, engaging, and clearly passionate about the product -- the kind of service that turns a great visit into a memorable one. You can tell they care about ingredients, execution, and customer experience here. Easily one of the best ice cream experiences around, and I will absolutely be back without hesitation.

Service was amazing and the ice cream to match. It was rich and creamy without being too sweet. The…read morewaffle cone was ok. But disappointed with that. It wasn't particularly fresh (or maybe the storage somehow wasn't sealed all the way) and it was blended with cinnamon. Now, I like cinnamon but that's not going to match every flavor. And some people may dislike cinnamon. I had no idea it had cinnamon until the end. The ratio was much stronger of ice cream to cone by the end and honestly all I tasted was cinnamon. Location is ok, but you may not realize there's parking in the back if you've never been there. It is at a light so crossing and turning into the place is easy. Atmosphere and ice cream itself were stupendous. I recommend getting the cone with vanilla or just getting the scoops. Unless you love cinnamon and there you go. Their competitor downtown is better in some ways, BUT Bright Ice has better flavors and more traditional type of flavors. This is an important distinction which makes it stand out on its own. Honestly, I will return for a pint of that Espresso with Kahula. Great addition to the Lakeland scene and I would definitely recommend this.

Of all the ice cream joints, and there are many in Lakeland, this is the ONLY one to frequent. Friendly staff, nice bar, inside and outside seating, though it is a small place. Then there is the ice cream...lots and lots of unusual and favorite flavors, dirty sodas, fabulous milkshakes made to order, daily specials, ice cream to go....fabulous! On this visit, hubby had a very chocolate milkshake , made to order, I had a fabulous scoop of Salted Turtle, full of nuts and chocolate nuggets, and caramel.....outstanding. Every visit we try something different and we're never disappointed. Boy, it's good stuff. The store is in a shopping plaza with an Aldi, chinese food, other businesses....dinner and dessert at one stop! Go, you'll love it.

Having this location in South Lakeland closer to where I live is dangerous. The original is in way North Lakeland, and there's also one in Mulberry (called the Mulberry Ice Cream Company). But regardless which store you go to, it's a consistent and delectable product. They have a dozens of flavor options, from a full case of sorbets to kiddie options like superman to all the chocolate heaven you could want. They handmake the ice cream and you can tell when you have it, it's just different than other places. I usually end up trying something different every time I come since there are so many options- there truly hasn't been one I haven't like yet. And you can taste test if you're having a hard time deciding, which would be understandable. This location is cute- it's where the south Swan Brewing bar used to be so they kept the bar up and refashioned it to work as more of an old school ice cream parlor feel. Another fun part of these ice cream companies- they also have homemade waffle cones, like literally almost double digit flavors, and you can get the famous ice cream burrito or ice cream nachos. If you're a fan of malt flavors the malts they make are fabulous too.
