After reading some horror stories regarding other smog check places, my faith in finding an honest smog check place was diminishing. However, I happened to be in the area, and when Moraga Smog popped up on Yelp, and they had a Yelp check in offer, I decided on giving them a shot. I pulled up, and the gentleman who was sitting behind the desk inside the smog check came over, handed me some paperwork to fill out, and then took my car inside. Ten minutes later he pulls it back out, and even turns it around for me so I'm all ready to drive out of here. I did pass, and Jose, the gentleman who helped me, was extremely nice and had no problem answering all my questions. At first I missed the place, it is at a corner I didn't expect it to be at, right across from a Golf course. I came here because I was refereed by a friend that has taken multiple cars here and all he can say is great things. I am very anal on who works on my car as you can see from my other car reviews. If I sense anything shady or bad business ethics I will put them on blast on yelp and take my business else where. The Owner of the Shop Andre, was very polite and curious. My buddy received one of those coupons in the mail and he gave it to me to use. I went to visit my friend out in Moraga I figured I can kill two birds with one stone by getting my smog done by a trustful shop while there. The total ended up around 50 dollars. I do not think anything is misleading or shady, if you read, the coupon clearly states there are other fees that are associated with the smog. I mean come on like the 8 dollar cert, EVERYSMOG SHOP charges you that as it inst their fee it is the governments charge. The coupon had very clear print that there are extra fees, so I wasn't worried. The last time I had to get a smog test only a year ago I paid about 68 OTD with a coupon. I am happy to see that I paid about 20 less than last year. But back on to the shop, its a smaller shop yet friendly and helpful. He explained the Smog process in depth and each and every step that he did. I do not plan to be a smog guru but I appreciate when a Shop can let me know what they are doing to my car, why it is being doing, and how. If I am ever in the area again or have a need to be near by, I will take my other cars here as well as his professionalism and kindness has won my wallet. read more

Jose, the employee with whom I dealt was polite, helpful and very quick. I was in and out in less time than I spent waiting to be acknowledged at another local smog station. Moraga Smog's is a "Star" (nee "Test Only") station. When I bought a used car this week, the registration said it had to be tested at a Star station. Some cars are selected for this testing at random, others because of high mileage, age or "gross polluter" status. If your registration calls for a Star test, you cannot have the test done at a regular smog station. The price I paid was quite reasonable. Including all fees and taxes, I paid $78.20, which is less than the other Star station I checked. My 2001 Ford ZX-2 and I were passed and out in 20 minutes. Another customer told me that he brings client vehicles to Moraga for testing even though his shop is in Pinole because of the good work done here. While regular smog test stations are allowed to do repairs, Star stations are not, though they usually will re-test your car for free after repairs are made on it. An important tip: Before you go to ANY smog test station, remember that a lit CHECK ENGINE light is an automatic fail before the test even starts. Get whatever is causing it to turn on fixed before you go for testing. I won't hesitate to use Moraga Smog's in the future. Highly Recommended. read more

Came to this place after being referred to by a friend of mine. Let me tell you, best customer service ever by a smog place! Usually techs that work at smog places are complete douche bags! But this guy had a great sense of humor, explained everything thoroughly, and even offered me some food! I could tell this guy is genuinely a good and respectful guy. Everything was smooth and easy, and I was out of there in 20 minutes flat. I didn't do a lot of research about how much other places charge for a smog check, but Moraga Smog charged me about $68. He said it would take about 15-20 minutes, so I walked by dog around the neighborhood, and true to his word the smog check was done in exactly 15 minutes. The total time from driving my car in and out of the station was about 20-25 minutes.
