I called Moraga Smog this morning and Jose answered the phone. He was so friendly and accomodating right out of the gate. I asked if I should just come in or make an appt. and he said I could do either but appts are good. I then asked him the cost and it seemed a bit high. I told him that I had a coupon to Diablo Smog that was much less expensive. I also asked if that was just a scam because I had looked at diablo smog on yelp and they had a series of bad reviews that basically called them crooks. He did not say anything negative about his competitor he just said don't worry about it, bring me the coupon and I will honor it. I showed up for my appt. and he greeted me at my car calling me by my name, I'm guessing that is because we had established what kind of car I had. My smog check was done in 15 minutes as promised and Jose was just a sheer joy throughout the whole process. I highly recommend Moraga Smog for all your car needs. They are also a repair shop. I haven't used them for a repair but based on my experience I have the total confidence in their abilities and integrity/honesty. I've told my husband that he MUST go to them when his registration is due in March. If you see this Jose, thanks for being great and have a very merry christmas. Like everyone has mentioned, Jose is great. Made an appointment with him through Yelp, arrived at the specified time and was in and out. Even with an older vehicle the price was fare. It's nice to have a Smog station that's not out to squeeze you dry. This is especially true for those of us with older vehicles (-1999) that need to do the Evap test. Having it located locally is also really convenient. Moraga isn't really known for deals. You usually have to go to Concord to find deals this good. Which is funny because out of the several places I contacted Moraga Smog was the cheapest. read more

This was a great find, especially since I've passed it numerous times as I frequently get gas at the Arco station where it is located. I just never noticed it, but I did see a coupon in the mail with a competitive price, so I drove on down there. The shop is small and run by one technician at a time, I had to wait a few minutes but it was worth it for the service I received. My vehicle flunked one of the tests and he gave me instructions on what to do to correct it. I did so and returned a few days later and again it failed. He very nicely again gave me further instructions to try and again I followed them. Eventually my car passed the test and he did not charge any additional cost for the extra tests. All the time he was very professional but friendly as well. I would certainly recommend this smog station to anyone but especially those who live in town, why go down the road when we have one so conveniently located. Shop Local! read more

Don't trust this guy. I called and told him I needed both cars checked. He quoted $60. I sent my teenager over with the first car, and he came back having paid $84. I now see that this place puts tricky coupons in those mass mailers advertising $26.95 -- but with extra for certificate, EFT, Test only, Dyno Fee, EVAP test fee, and other test fees. Buy gas from this station all the time but never realized they did smogs. Took me in right away and the whole smog test only took about 15 mins. The mechanic was very polite and didn't mind me asking questions while he worked. Other shops I've been to have a problem with you just watching. Price was also very reasonable. The only thing about this place was that there really wasn't a waiting room. They have a canopy set up with chairs underneath which is fine in warm weather but i can only imagine what its like during winter. But other than that no complaints I'll definitely be back when smog time comes around again. read more

I have previously used Jose when he was located at the Arco station and was very pleased with the service. In fact, I am almost certain I previously wrote a five-star review for him. Here are the facts about my recent visit, you can draw your own conclusions. I took my '89 Land Cruiser in for a smog check, Yes, it is old but well maintained and has never had a problem with a test in the past. Jose tested it and said it failed. He said the mechanical guys he shares the space with were good at diagnosing emission problems. He gave me their card but to his credit said I should feel free to take it anywhere. I took it to the Walnut Creek Toyota dealer (they have done all of the work on the vehicle for the past 25 years). Because of the vehicle's age they did not have the equipment needed to diagnose the problem. They suggested that Smog N Dash in Walnut Creek take a look. SND did a quick warm up of the vehicle, tested it, and it passed with flying colors. The difference in the tail pipe reading between MS and SND were dramatic; hard to believe that they came from the same vehicle. Virtually nothing was done to the vehicle between the time MS failed it and SND passed it. You make the call but I am voting with my feet. I am not going back to MS. read more
