The first time I ever went here we did not like the pastries we selected , so I went again and not only were the peanut butter cookies and the brownie cookies great, the shrimp from the hot table was fantastic. I have been back 3 times since and I have not been able to duplicate the experience. I purchased some guava pastries for my employees and they did not like them, I tried one and they were lacking compared to my regular local bakery. I tried the shrimp again and it was pretty good, the sugar cookie I bought was not. Now, I went and picked up a pumpkin pie from here, instead of The Village Inn. I had misgivings about the way it looked and smelled and should have purchased a back up. I also bought some more shrimp and it was cold. I ate a couple and then thought better of it and tossed them out.. That said the pumpkin pie we had for Christmas Eve dinner was not good at all. No one in the family liked it, odd flavor and an aftertaste from the crust were the chief complaints, and the vote was to toss it out. A great place should have great food the majority of the time. I have found they have a few key baked goods that are great, some that are just okay and others that are just not good. How can you NOT fall in love with this bakery? Their cakes are simply divine. There are no other words to put it. Are they pricey? Yes. Is it worth it? Yes. My favorite cake by far is their cannoli cake. It's vanilla cake, with cannoli cream and chocolate chips. Topped with buttercream icing and a cannoli. The cake is always moist and flavorful. Not sure why I never did a review of Moreno's! My husband and I discovered Moreno's when we moved to the area 2 years ago. This bakery is located in Brandon. It's right off Highway 60 and Kings Street. It's in a older strip mall center. The parking lot is shared but it's huge and parking is never a problem. We stopped in for lunch recently. We had a Cuban sandwich which we shared. They are huge and absolutely delicious!! We also had scachatta pizza which I happen to love! It sells out pretty early so we were lucky there was any left. Moreno's has a very large hot cooked food area. You can order and eat there or get food to go. There are plenty of tables and chairs to dine in. They have a very large selection of Cuban food. In addition to the hot food selection there is a bakery with all kinds of baked goods. Cakes, pastries, cup cakes, cookies etc. The counter with these sweet treats is overwhelming! So much to choose from! You can also always get a fresh baked loaf of Cuban bread to take home, leaf and all!! They also have fresh made cafe con leche which is yummy, in addition to other coffees. This is a popular and busy bakery, deli and more that I have visited numerous times in the past year. My go-to items are cookies and pastries. These are always top notch. Main reason for four stars instead of five is the pricing. For one they don't generally out the prices out for cookies and pastries, so you have to ask or find out when they ring it up. This makes it difficult to decide what to get, or how much to get as you browse the numerous cases. Overall, good service and lots to offer makes this my go-to bakery in the Brandon area. read more

Called in my cake order for a sweet sixteen and never having ordered a cake before I was hoping for some guidance from the bakery and instead it was like pulling teeth. From the flavors and fillings to colors and everything, seem to be annoying. I don't normally eat cake. I asked for help and the cake decorating person wasn't so helpful and short with my questions. I don't know the difference in flavor options or density on how to ice it or decorate it so overall I'm pretty disappointed that the staff here wasn't more helpful in helping to design this birthday cake. read more

Moreno Bakery is a must when we are visiting family!!! We have tried almost everything and it is all fresh and very tasty. The lunch and dinner buffet options are worth the try. The only two things that I will deduct a star for is the maduros we're very dry and not warm and my Cuban coffee was just expresso, my husband said the guy checking him out must not have understood what we wanted. A lot of stuff was gone but picked up some pastries, Pan de Bono, stuffed potato balls, deviled crab. I think the pan de Bono was the best out of them but the majority was bland and/or dry. Moreno Bakery is just wonderful. It's right off of Hwy 60 & Kings in Brandon & it's in a strip shopping center. When you walk in, the hot food is immediately to your left from lasagna to roast pork. Lots of sides to choose. Sometimes it's hard to pick. My favorite is the oxtails entree with two sides which was spinach gratin & plantains. The bakery side has a case that seems like it's a mile long. There is so many sweet goodies. I will say the chocolate cannolli is wonderful. You can get your food, desserts & something to eat at Moreno's or take out. Just be patient, it does get very busy in there but the staff is very nice. Keep up the good work. read more

The Gouda Mac-n-cheese is seriously the best! Like literally no other restaurant Mac and cheese has ever come close to beating this one! (It's even better than some of my relatives home made but shh don't tell them that!). My other favorites from the hot food section are the fried chicken strips and the fried plantains... Now I know what you're thinking... None of this is healthy but the best food usually isn't! I promise it's worth the extra calories.. BAKERY: When it comes to the sweets the chocolate chip cheesecake is a MUST!!! The only reason it's not pictured is because I already ate it while writing out my review.. lol! The cheesecake comes in three or 4 different flavors and the serving size is huge! The best part.... They're only $3.75 a piece... Honestly everything from the bakery tastes amazing and everything is very reasonably priced! I would easily pay $7 for one cheesecake all day long and thing of it as a steal.... Stopped by one a weekday about mid afternoon. I tried to avoid the crowd, and I was successful. My primary mission was to satisfy my craving for some good fried shrimp, which they have on their hot bar. About $8 got me a "small" order which was in reality more than a generous portion of large to jumbo fried shrimp with a tempura type breading. The shrimp were cooked perfectly, and very tasty. I also picked up some black and white cookies, which were more like small cakes. These were a bit bland, not the same type you would expect to find at a Jo-El's or a Kosher bakery. Price for the cookies were $2.50 each. The service was top notch, and there is a vast selection of baked goods, with a smallish section of prepared hot dishes. What a find!!!! Totally shocked and how high quality the Pan De Queso tasted. Um wowsers. Had to go back in 3x to get 3 of them all together because my kids loved them. That's HUGE. They are picky eaters!!! We also got the Con De leche latte so delish made perfectly Also got chocolate chip cookies which were good but nothing compares to the Queso. It came out warm , filled with cheese/ nice and crisp exterior and coated with a light sweet glaze- and sprinkled with rosemary SUPERIOR. One of the best pastries ever and so unique. I've decided to update my review on Morenos to a 1 star for a few reasons 1 they use boxed croquettes and potato balls 2 the sold me a lunch meal without telling me that specific things are extra. 3 i paid almost 20.00 for fake "paella" that they indicated is more because it has meat in it. (See photo) i had 4 tiny pieces of sausage. That's it. There was no additional meat in the "paella". 4 their fake "paella" had a weird after taste. So i paid an extra 8.00 for crappy tasting fake "paella" also known as fried rice with sausage. read more
