Today at Morenos I experienced something I have never experienced before. I've been coming to morenos since I was 14 that was 1983. I was out today and came with my small labradoodle which I've done many times. It was very warm out and I preceded to give me dog my cup of water to drink from. Within minutes a middle aged woman came over who stated she was the owner told me it's against California Gavin newsom law for me to allow my dog to drink from my cup. She was very vocal and then preceded to say they don't advertise they are dog friendly but people bring their dogs. Then said they piss and shit everywhere and told us about an incident of someone beating their dog in front of patrons and people wanting to leave. She was loud and vocal. Everyone on patio was staring at us as if we had done something wrong. My dog was very well behaved and just needed some water. I had no knowledge of this law and stated that. It ruined our lunch and made us feel we had done something wrong. She made the comment her parents started this place and she was now the owner. Well one recommendation. Don't act like an ass to patrons who have been coming for a long time. All the waiters are so wonderful they are who make the restaurant and invite people to come back. I wanted to say something upon leaving but was worried she would tell me I wasn't welcome back. It was unbelievable. read more

COVID or no COVID there is no excuse for bad service and rude management. After more than 40 years I'm hanging up my Morenos sombrero. Just left after waiting 20 minutes for someone-any one to come take my order. When I had the audacity to complain (upon exiting) I has told that my choice of the profane word "Bubu", (as in I've been sitting here for 20 minutes with my thumb up my bubu waiting for someone to take my order) was unac capable. I assured the rude "manager" that she probably then would not care for the word "asshole". "You seem angry" I was lectured. I replied "You'd be angry too with only an hour for lunch, and entire plethora of staff just staring at you as you do everything legally permissible to get their attention-I e been waiting for over 20 minutes". Phenomenal guest relation skills. Must miss her old job at Kmart. Could had chosen this moment to salvage our relationship by offering her condolences....instead she chose to elevate the discord due to her obvious mental condition. I've had slow service here before when I literally was the only patron in the place and in spite of the mediocre excuse they pass off as Mexican food. Hey...it's tradition because we've been coming for so long. But you can get better food elsewhere let alone better pan dulce from Cardenas. So adios, Morenos. You truly suck. If you believe your relevance is balanced on your "50 years" of business, I hereby urge you to look no further than Sears, who failed after 130. See everyone at El Ranchito, where I was seated promptly, my order taken expediently, and food far more authentic and delicious. read more

Had a solid meal in a nice atmosphere today. The carnitas tacos and Chile verde burrito were on point. The homemade flan and churros were great as well. The service great too. Was nice to go back to this place that we visited as a family during my childhood. If you want good Mexican food in a mission style atmosphere I recommend giving Morenos a try. read more

Our family has been enjoying special occasions at Moreno's for several years now. Recently we went to another Mexican Restraunt for a family birthday, big mistake! Don't waste your time and money at Santo Remedios in Orange, very rude service and would not accommodate us with our bills, we had a party of 22 and they only wanted 1 bill for 6 different family's . I have been coming to Morenos for many years and love Taco Tuesday's. Today is Cinco de Mayo so I went to order and pick up a few tacos cause I couldn't get thru the phone, understandably. I order them at 4:45 and finally got them at 6:30. I ordered two soft shell tacos and when I got home and opened the box they were hard shell tacos that were cold and the shells were broken and soggy from sitting for who knows how long. My family has been coming to Moreno's for 37 years. We have moved a few times as far away as Mission Viejo, but we always gravitate back to our favorite Mexican food restaurant. Steve and his family and staff have always been so inviting. Yes, the food is great, but most importantly, we are always treated like family friends. During these days of "only to-go" orders, Moreno's hasn't disappointed. They are still serving great food with a caring smile. Food here is excellent and you can't beat the patio seating. On a nice day it's a shady respite with all the trees and foliage. At night, a truly lovely scene with all the ambient lighting. All the meals I've eaten here have been good, no complaints. The salsa is a little spicy for my liking but that's a personal preference. The only negative is the service isn't always the greatest. The last time I went, I asked the waiter several times to put in a to-go order and he never came back to take it each time he came to our table (he was busy with other tables so I would not let that keep me from going here again). I have to say that I was surprised with Moreno's. My wife had been wanting to try this place out for a while so we figured Mother's Day brunch would be a good time to try it. Although, I was hesitant after reading the reviews from my fellow Yelpers. Usually, I am hesitant to have brunch on a holiday like Mother's Day. You get rushed or are given a time limit, etc. I was expecting the same at Moreno's. However, that was not the case at all. Our reservation was at noon. We were seated at a nice table in the corner of the courtyard near the fountain. Our waiter brought us Champagne(free flowing by the way) and the moms ordered Cadillac Margaritas. He then just let us take our time before ordering. I want to say we waited a good 45 minutes to an hour before ordering. Once we ordered, it was another hour or so before our food arrived, but we were good because the Champagne kept flowing. After about 6 glasses, our food arrived. I ordered the chorizo and eggs. All I will say is that the atmosphere makes up for the food. That was the general consensus amongst the moms(including wife) as well. Overall, my Moreno's experience was a good one. I'll be back for sure. The only negative thing I could say is that parking is a major pain. The parking lot is pretty small. You can try to find parking in the neighborhood surrounding Moreno's, but even that is difficult. read more

Decided to stop and eat here with my family. I have no regrets of choosing this place! The food is great for the price and the portions are reasonable. Would recommend the meatball soup and the "caldo de res". Server Jose was very polite and kind to us and would constantly stop by our table to make sure we were good. I have been coming here for decades .. really decades! Our family loves dia de los muertos here ... BUT tonight was the WORST!!!! The absolute most disappointing birthday dinner we have had for my dad on dia de los muertos. Who ever had the horrible idea to do a buffet style dinner should be fired! Not everyone can stand in a long line walk with a cane or walker and carry their own plate! It would be one thing if the buffet was amazing and offered several of the amazing authentic dishes that are on the menu ... BUT NO it was terrible! Our entire family felt like we were in line at the high school cafeteria! We come for the dia de los muertos performance and to order food and share like a family ! Tonight will be the last night our family will ever patron this establishment again for dia de los muertos. It is sad that it has come to this ..$20 a person is more important than the authenticity and pride of the mexican culture and history of morenos. read more

I hate giving Moreno's only 2 stars because the food is very good, but the service has been consistently bad. My experience tonight just took it to another level of disappointment. When ordering, I told the server my order and even pointed at the order on the menu. It was a combo plate with Chile relleno, enchilada, and a taco. He took my order and took everybody else's order. To my surprise, my food arrived without an enchilada. My friend ordered the fajitas with flour tortillas, but the tortillas never came. We asked for our server, but he didn't arrive until I had almost finished my plate and my friends fajitas were already cold. I told the server my order missed an enchilada, but he said I had o my ordered the taco and Chile relleno. Everyone heard me ask for the combo plate. I asked for the enchilada and for the tortillas. When he came back, he brought me a Chile relleno! He said I had asked for a Chile relleno! By the time my friend's tortillas came, his food was already too cold to eat. To make things worst, the Chile relleno he did bring, had paper still attached. I had already eaten some paper before I had realized it. I showed the manager the paper and at least they comped my meal. The server felt so disconnected from his customers that the orders were wrong and neglected. I keep coming back because the food is delicious, but eventually I will get tired of the service. I don't mean to complain but, when you are there with friends and they are eating and enjoying their meals, it matters. My friend and I were not able to enjoy our meals. The fajitas are not served in the traditional way with the smoking skillet, instead on a sad looking plate with small amounts of meat. You can find better fajitas at Los Compadres, El Torito, and even Chile's. I will come back one more time to give it another chance. But the service needs to improve. read more

This is our favorite local Mexican place. We eat here several times a month. Food is delicious. Service is good. Portions are large. Pricing is fair. Love sitting on the beautiful patio. They have a large patio, which has worked to their benefit during the pandemic; plenty of room for social distancing. Been going to this restaurant for over 20 years, had my first bad experience. Met people there for lunch for the delicious taco Tuesday, ordered one margarita for each of the three of us. While the tacos were only $2, were charged $12 for each margarita, which brought our bill to over $78. Worst food we ever had! The place is beautiful and the service was good. However, it's the worst place to eat and drink Mexican food. We ordered the Tampiquena and the fajitas. The Tampiquena didn't have a good presentation and nothing had a flavor. Even the rice and beans and guacamole. The fajitas came out cold. We ordered the veggies and steak well done and it was the opposite. Even Del taco has more flavor than these plates. This place is not worth it. For expensive Mexican food I prefer Avila's El ranchito or even El torito. read more

Very Good!! I went with a group of Ladies, which all picked something different and we all really enjoyed our food!! I personally ordered the 2 Combination with 1 cheese enchilada and 1 beef enchilada, beans and rice!! ...They were great!! For those extra health people, my cheese enchilada was really greasy but hey what's can I say... that's how you know it's real!! Heads up for those who might want be drawn to sit out!! Which it was totally beautiful, with the trees and flowers, birds chirping and over head lights!! It was so beautiful on the warm summer day.... but that also brought those buzzing bees!! We all had to keep trying to fan them away from our food and drinks!! Even tho one took over my drink and had a field day!!! Other then that, I highly recommend trying this spot out!! Moreno's was recommended to me by a great friend who said her and her family had been coming here for years! On our Sunday date day my boyfriend and I decided to give it a whirl and we where not disappointed! With covid-19 they only offered patio dinning but it was fine because the patio and lights and trees are beautiful. It happened to be a chilly June gloom day so they had to actually put on the outdoor heaters. The service was fantastic and their sanitation procedures where on point! Based on the food recommendations from my friend and the yelp photos we settled on trying one of their highly commended hard shell beef tacos and my guy loves trying carne asada and me I always love trying new chili verde he ordered a carne asada taco and I got a chili verde all meat no beans burrito! Everything was fantastic! One of the best shredded beef hard tacos ever! It was huge! So was the carne asada taco--their carne is tender and seasoned perfectly! Huge as well--compatible portions to Cali tacos! my all meat chili verde burrito was heaven! Next time we want to order one wet and we definitely want to try the carnitas as they looked amazing as well! We ordered a side of sour cream and it was abundant enough for us to share all of it. We had leftovers die sure and the next day the chili verde was even more flavorful this is just the food...now the margaritas where also fantastic! We had a regular and a Cadillac! Both yummy and on point with their lime base! Loved all of it we had a terrific server and a very clean experience! We can't wait to go back! We are so thankful our friend recommended it.
