But the other food was exceptional. My wife really loved the crab legs and the pork ribs. I thought the omelet station was great but was a bit short on... Toppings, for lack of a better word was a little assistance but it was cooked really well. And the prime rib! The prime rib was exceptional. Among the best I've had, particularly at a buffet. I've come in twice for the Sunday buffet and it was hit and miss. The cook to order section was great but the pre-cooked area left a lot to be desired. Chilaquiles were soft, and eggs looked like they were powdered. They do have a huge selection of sweets which looked and tasted amazing, but overall I wasn't that impressed. Service was fantastic, though. My hostess, Dani, was very sweet. I chose to sit at the bar and the bartender/server, David, is a great guy who took good care of me. The setting is nice enough. First Time For Sunday Brunch in 10 years.. Was there for a Birthday Party.. For the amount of money that was spent the food didn't match what it ised to be.. The food was like a hotel buffet and the food was either dry, lacking flavor, or not very appealing.. The food was spread across in two areas (instead of being in the big room like last time) The bulk of the food was crammed in the bar area and was crowded and hard to even move around at times. The omelette station was set up next to the prime rib station and the made to order omelettes were so slick and oiled that they were not edible. The bottomless mimosas were very very few until we went and tracked someone down and then they started coming around.. I got the chicken & ribs plate (I appreciate how this restaurant does combo plates, so that you don't have to commit to only one protein). The price was steep ($50), but worth it, considering that the price includes unlimited sourdough bread and access to the soup & salad bar (à la Souplantation). Ribs were amazing, but chicken was dry. Overall, I think this is an amazing restaurant, for the sides, appetizers, and views. But the main course may need some work. Was sat at 5:00. We ordered immediately first thing when the waitress came because we knew we were ordering the 2 for $85 prime rib. The plates were served at 5:50. We watched table after table being served their plates whom were seated after us AND those tables finish their meals before we were even served. When our plates were finally served, the waitress didn't even acknowledge the ridiculous wait time nor did she apologize for whatever reason it took longer than it should. It seemed like our table, for only my spouse and I, was ignored and walked past until we had to alas ask for a box and the check. Also, I ordered my prime rib medium rare, which was served nothing close to what I expected and was told that it's in fact medium rare... Waiting was annoying, but it could have made it better with an apology and acknowledgement from the waitress that it was in fact longer than it should have been, which we did not receive. Orange County Mining Company is a steakhouse on the border of Orange and Santa Ana that's most known for its views of Orange County. I came here with my wife for their Thanksgiving brunch buffet as they had prime rib, crab legs, turkey, and a bunch of other items for $55/per person. They have a similar offering on Sundays and it's apparently pretty popular. Servers were kind and the old California mining ambiance has its own charm that I generally liked. It gives the feels from my favorite parts of Knotts Berry Farm, Big Thunder Mountain, and Splash Mountain. While I got my money's worth of crab legs, salad, menudo, prime rib, turkey, and Dr. Pepper refills, there were a lot of things that didn't impress. 1) They had menudo with all the toppings you'd want; however, it was hard to find a clean bowl near that section. Considering that we had a table near the beginning of brunch service, I felt that this was a red flag. 2) The prime rib was very, very overcooked. It was well-done and sliced very thin. There was one time that the attendant was slicing it a little thicker, and someone in the next station exclaimed for him to cut it "mas pinche chico". 3) It got pretty busy around 12:30p-1:00p, which is fine; however, what made it slightly annoying was the food was not thoughtfully arranged. Turkey, gravy, cranberry sauce, stuffing, and mashed potatoes were spread out in opposite corners, which made many of their elderly patrons dig around for an endless scavenger hunt of side dishes. 4) Pies and desserts reminded me of the spread from your local supermarket. 5) Coffee was watery. Pancakes and Waffles were thin and cooked very quickly, served pale and without any color. Overall, the food in the thanksgiving brunch was not something that I'd recommend. While they have a similar meal on Sundays, I'd honestly prefer less options that are done better. I felt that this is reminiscent of what you'd find at an old Vegas buffet at an off-strip resort. I came here on a Wednesday night with two friends and had a really lovely time - I had no expectations coming in, so I was so surprised to see a high quality salad and soup bar (unlimited too!!), which served as a great appetizer. The soup I got was the cream of prime rib, which was admittedly quite salty but I assume that's to discourage people drinking too much of it in one go. We also got the cornbread, which came with three types of toppings on the side. I especially enjoyed the sweet cream. We all ordered steak as well, which came with a nice side of cheese bread. We dine here once in a while but it has been a few years. This visit was for a small family gathering to celebrate a birthday. The reservation was for 7pm and the parking lot was already full, but the valet had no line and I think the cost was $9. I definitely recommend making a reservation on OpenTable as the restaurant can get very busy, especially on the weekend. After a brief wait, we were seated in a booth by the window with the usual great view. Unfortunately, squeezing six of us into a booth instead of seating us at a table was definitely a tight fit. If you have dined here before, you always look forward to the big salad bar. They have moved it from its own big room to a smaller area in the main dining area. I don't remember what is missing from the larger area but it seems like many of the same salad bar items are still available. Our server brought a basket of their cheese bread which was good. I think the bread slices are smaller than they used to be but you can always ask for more. The table shared two orders of the spinach artichoke dip. It was surprisingly bland with very little flavor. It was served with very ordinary white, red, and green rainbow tortilla chips. The dip should be the star of the show, not the gimmicky rainbow tortilla chips. At least the entrees were better. My "Miner's Filly" filet mignon was cooked to a perfect medium rare plus with blue cheese crumbles and sliced mushrooms. It tasted great but obviously the mushrooms came from a can. I don't think I have ever been served canned mushrooms on a steak at any restaurant. The fire roasted chicken breast was cooked well and the BBQ sauce was good. The broccolini on both plates was fresh and cooked well. We skipped dessert but our server brought a complementary dessert for the birthday girl which was nice. We came on a Wednesday night and it was a great evening. There was a banquet going on in one of their rooms but the restaurant itself was mellow. We were able to hear the music that played softly and not feel like we had to yell to talk to each other. We planned this date because we found their ad online for a dinner for 2 for $80. This came with 2 14 oz NY steaks with one side, a trip to the salad and soup bar, and a bottle of champagne. When we got there, they told us the offer had ended days before on Sunday. However, without asking, our server talked to the manager and they honored it for us that night. Talk about great service! We both got our steaks medium rare and they came out beautifully. Probably one of the best NY steaks I've had! The Mac n cheese was delicious, there is a stronger smell/taste and we couldn't tell if it was the cheddar or if there was Parmesan in it. Again, not a bad thing, just something to note if you have a sensitive nose. Our server was great, Karen was very kind, knowledgeable about the restaurant as a whole (we had a couple questions to holding events there), and fun to joke with. Although there were a few hiccups like we got our bread at the end of dinner (to me, I understand since we asked for the Mac n cheese to come out as an appetizer) and they had to upgrade the champagne bottle from the original deal (at no extra charge) because they ran out of the other brand, it was really a perfect night. Came here for Mother's Day brunch. All of the staff were really nice from the valet to the waiter. There were beautiful views overlooking Orange County. We normally go to the Pomona valley mining company, but we had such a bad experience with their horrible staff and management that we decided to drive a bit farther and try this spot. All in all the food was pretty much the same. Looooved the crab legs. Shrimp was ok and so were the ribs and salad. Salmon was delish. I have to say I thought it was annoying that they split the food in separate rooms. I got French toast in one room and had to go to the other room for syrup and pancakes and other breakfast items. That didn't make sense to any of us. We had a great waiter Leif who was fun. He was very attentive kept the bottomless mimosas flowing and really made our time at this restaurant enjoyable. In conclusion, this place was just like Pomona, but the service was top tier. We made reservations at the OC Mining Co. for 7:15 last Saturday night and were told they needed more time; we were seated fifteen minutes later. We ordered grilled artichoke hearts and mac & cheese appetizers which were delivered without plates. There were five of us and we didn't feel like eating off communal serving plates, so we had to ask for some small appetizer plates. Then we had to ask for more water. At one time, our waitress, Taylor, came back with a water pitcher with about a cup in it--enough to fill one glass. If there were five of us, why didn't she have the foresight to bring more water? Next, we had to ask for our bread. The artichoke hearts were grossly oversalted and one of the steaks that was ordered medium well was pink throughout the center. We complained and the manager comp'd us for both the artichokes and steak. The rest of the food was good, but not great. The meals averaged $50 a plate. Once drinks, tax and gratuity are added, you can figure spending $80-90 a person. For what we paid for the meal, we expected far better service and quality of food. I've been to the OC Mining Co. many times in the past 30 years and this is the worst food and service I've ever received. Evidently, both have suffered and people have noticed--back in the day, on any Saturday night, there would be a long line waiting to get in and the parking lot was jammed packed. There were no lines when we went and plenty of parking. We drove for half an hour and even took the toll road to get there. He never made us feel rushed and we lingered more than 2 hours taking in the experience. He also brought made to order Eggs Benedict to the table- my husband's dream! Food: My first plate was a donut, chocolate dessert assortment and fruit sampler that I put aside while I enjoyed prime rib, bbq ribs and other mains. They had breakfasty stuff like pancakes and waffles made to order. Hubby had crab legs, prime rib and several made to order eggs Benedict. Christin was amazing and so was her team. They were so organized and on top of everything. We just fell in love with the panoramic view and the rustic feel of the venue. The Bridal Expo was so essential to give us an idea of the preferred vendors and helped us envisioned our special day. We got to also taste test different entrees and try samples for the cake. We went here for the Sunday brunch for a family member's bday celebration a couple weeks ago. Food was okay, the only thing making it a good deal is the crab legs. Prime rib was not good and other food was like diner quality. I would rather go to other buffets next time for $50 with better quality food. Also, we were there around 11.30am and buffet is until 3pm but they stop replenishing most items around 1 pm, especially the donuts they do eventually replenish some of the hot foods but it took a very long time. I felt bad for some people who just came after 1pm. We didn't keep eating until past then but we were still there chatting away because we had a big party in a private room the family reserved (Which turned hot towards the end and we notice the AC temperature was in high 70s!). If you ever come for the buffet, do not come past 1pm, it will be a waste of money. I made things a bit worse by grabbing a salad from the bar and joining him, hoping they'd let us stay. In the kindest way possible, the staff gently let us know we couldn't, so we happily moved to the bar for a drink while we waited. Even though we were far from perfect guests--especially on one of their busiest days--the management showed incredible hospitality. They generously bought us a round of drinks and soon after seated us at a beautiful table by the glass. It turned a potentially awkward moment into a wonderful experience. This restaurant has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember--it's been here longer than I've been alive. No matter the circumstances, they always treat you like a valued guest. I truly love this place and will continue coming back for years to come (as long as I'm still in California!). Had a reservation and after showing up a couple minutes early we still waited 15 minutes before we were seated. But we didn't mind as we enjoyed the beautiful view from the deck. The service was amazing as our waitress was very friendly and helpful. I love the salad/soup bar, definitely took advantage of it. Unfortunately when my main course came, I cut into my steak to find it overcooked. For reference I asked for medium rare as I like pink in the middle and it came to me well done. My steak being overcooked is the only reason for the 4 star. And also watch out for the prices. This is not a cheap restaurant. For me and my fiance to eat here it was over $130 not including the tip. read more
