Gina at Morganthal Fredricks in SoHo helped me choose my new eye glasses. After visiting lots of NYC eyewear shops, I'd seen nothing else remotely like them. As an artist, I was immediately drawn to their multi-colored exterior, sculptural - yet light hearted - shape, and the ability to add lenses that shift to a deep violet in sunlight. They arrived even earlier than their due date. Then I discovered that these particular Press frames were designed in a limited series, like a print, and in support of Visual AIDS, a New York-based arts organization. So I'm proud to have invested in this particular pair. To be honest they are a splurge for my budget, but are well worth it already. They're fun and make me happy. Hana, at Morgenthal Frederics SoHo, helped to assess replacing the lens for my sunglasses. The titanium frames are still in great shape, but was purchased many year ago, so I asked about whether it's still possible to upgrade the lens to my current vision prescription. Hana was friendly, incredibly helpful and gave useful info that I should account for to replace the lens on (what I jokingly referenced as) my now "vintage" frames. She also tightened my frames for a different pair of glasses that I had bought elsewhere - for free! - which I so appreciate! Great store, brand, and service at this SoHo spot. read more

Gina was fantastic as usual. I have been a customer of Morgenthal Frederics since I bought my first pair of horn glasses at their shop at the Plaza Hotel. This was almost 20 years ago. This is my fifth pair of horn eyeglasses. Gina who I've worked with for 15 years since she was at Columbus Circle branch was outstanding in striving to provide excellent customer service. I saw the Matsuda glasses in horn online and was told by a different sales person that they no longer offered it and it cannot be done. I went to Gina, who moved to the SoHo branch and asked about them. She didn't flinch and pushed to get them done for me. It took some time as they have to make it. It is completely BESPOKE. I love my glasses - this is actually my third and fourth pair of Oscar De La Renta Morganthal Fredrics' Twist. The first pair I wore daily for four years and the second I lost to the ocean in the first week of ownership. The glasses are a great fit, sophisticated and chic. BUT - what I love more, is the customer service experience at Morganthal Fredrics Madison store and online. The employees truly care about making the purchase experience great and customer satisfaction. I have been hunting for a replacement pair of Twist IV for a long time - on the verge of being a sunglass stalker. Brian in customer service was always friendly and helpful, never minding that I would call back to check if the glasses had come in stock. Best of all with the help of Beatrice, the store manager at 944 Madison they found me the last pair of Twist IV in blue and I also purchased a Twist III. This is my first time posting on Yelp. Today was my second trip into Morgenthal Frederics and I just wanted to share my pleasant experience about the quality service these guys gave me. I've always had a tough time picking out frames by myself or with the help of professionals. From my first visit, I felt so relaxed talking with the people of who work in the shop. I told them the styles and colors of what I had in mind, they brought things out that both fit that and encouraged me to try other things as well. In the end, I ended up with my favorite pair of glasses and get compliments weekly. That's why I came back today to get a pair of sunglasses too. I was immediately recognized with a warm greeting, kind of like when you see someone you know but hadn't seen them in a bit. It was warm and genuine. Unfortunately, I spent about a half hour in there picking out my new sunglasses, only to come out to a dead battery on my motorcycle. The gentleman who helped me today (Steve) actually came outside and pushed the bike so I could pop in in gear and ride off! Not many people are willing to go to that length. That's why I'm not buying glasses anywhere else. Excellent combination of form and function. Their buffalo horn and wood laminates are extremely comfortable to wear. Even their plastic frames are classy. I switched over from Oliver Peoples. And am probably converted for life. Look no further if you seek a fine pair of glasses. On the other hand, if you are hoping to use your vision insurance, go someplace else--Morgenthal Frederics does not accept any insurance. I had never purchased frames here, or seen one of their optometrists. I had a first rate experience. It was time for a new pair of progressives, and their beautiful frames in the window drew me in. I got a gorgeous stylish green pair which I love, and Beatrice at the 75th and Madison Store worked to correct a bum prescription from Weill Cornell. The prescription was too weak, and she worked tirelessly to correct it, put in new lenses twice, until my vision was perfect. Have never had a retailer be so concerned. My wife bought a pair in March 2017 for $2,600. By Spring 2020, they had to be refinished. It took a bit of arm-twisting, but the store agreed to it for free, though it was three months before they were ready. In Fall of 2021, the glasses needed another repair. That cost $250 and took a few months. My Oliver Peoples are ten years old and fine. I've never serviced them at all. They cost $600. read more

In that time the attention I receive is nothing less than stellar. Both in the store but even on the phone. Morganthal Frederics has moved the associate I first shopped with in 2011, Gina, to a few different locations and I've followed her to the locations because I was so spoiled by my first experience. What I find so unique about the brand is the designs they offer. What I find so special about this particular associate is that she is much more than a salesperson. She has recommended frames that flatter my face and connect with my own personal style. Total strangers periodically stop me to compliment my eyewear. Purchased a pair of $1500 horn sunglasses. The hardware on the eyepiece has broken 3 times. First time had to fight to get them to repair free of charge. Had to send to Germany. Second time with other side piece , they charged me $300 to repair . Sent to Germany. The same side broke again! Now it's $385 to replace ! Had I known they don't stand behind their own products, I would not have walked in. read more

Imagine adjusting a frame and twisting the frame front completely out of shape, rather than adjusting the temples. The saleswoman pulled out a pair from a bank-like vault with antler frames and titanium hinges..... As far as spectacles go..... these are the white truffle whipped cream! Although they don't take the beloved insurance you will totally set your eyeballs aside from the rest of the designer wearing optic logo whores. Highly recommended if your going blind!!! read more

I had always longed for a pair of frames from this venerable New York City shop. On my last trip to New York I finally bought a pair. I had already noted the style I wanted so it was a pretty easy sale for the manager. He hooked me up with a receipt so I could file my own VSP (insurance) claim and even arranged for temporary non-Rx (demo) lenses so I can look brainy and stylish until I take them to my insured optometrist back home for real lenses. He even packed them with a coordinating pink leather case and orange cleaning cloth. (For $400 I guess this detail is probably expected.) All in all, it was an okay experience. I'm docking 'em one-third star though for not having my frames ready in time for my flight back home as promised. They were sent priority Fed Ex and I got them at home the next morning, however I'm docking 'em another half-star because they arrived dirty and the demo lenses weren't snapped in all the way. And, finally, another half-star gone for charging me for demo lenses in the first place. (What kind of racket is that!?) Since I round up, they're still getting 4 stars and a cautious recommendation for the shop behind Jackie O.'s signature specs. read more

Seven years ago, I purchased a pair of prescription glasses at Morganthal Fredricks on Broadway, that were printed on a 3-D printer. I was visiting New York City at the time and this was my second pair of glasses from Morgan -thal Fredricks. I had moved to Arizona but due to so many compliments on the glasses, When I return to New York City I always went to work and saw Fredericks on Broadway. Over the years I have had two incidences with my glasses that were my fault. Once I was going on a trip and a piece in the temple broke. I called Morgenthau Fredericks and they immediately FedEx the pieces that I needed so I was able to get them repaired in Scottsdale. The second time was just this past week when I stepped on my glasses and both temples came off. Due to upcoming cataract surgery, I am only allowed to wear glasses. I was frantic for without them I would've had two months wearing sunglasses each day in the house. Russell was fantastic! Without my request, he called places in Scottsdale Arizona for me and then called me back to let me know which was the closest place to my home where I would be able to find a repair. When I thanked him he said, " Oh, please, that's what we're here for." I had great service when I was in the shop on both occasions and I ,obviously, continue to have great service now. My hats off to Russell and the beautiful frames at Morganthal Fredricks on Broadway. read more

I purchased a pair of horn glasses for about $2,000 from the 399 Broadway Boutique in NYC and the service was horrible. I ordered them over the phone and when I picked them up, Gina handed them to me in an oversized case with the glasses flopping around inside, uncleaned and not polished and no bag or receipt. I asked her for a receipt, she said "use your credit card statement". She is also a pathological liar. I asked her to hold them for me when I initially called. I called back 10 days later and asked her if she could hold them for another day. In fact, she never "held" them for me at all, but gave me this story about her manager telling her that she already held them for a month, which amounted to two lies. Her manager said no such thing and it had only been 10 day. On the phone, she kept reminding me that if delivered, someone would have to sign for them as if I was trying to commit fraud. She also lied about the return policy. She told me MF didn't take returns, then clearly forgot and later said she has only taken returns when the glasses haven't been tampered with. I decided to buy two more pair of $2,500 horn glasses, but I bought them online. Gina is clearly not used to working for a high-end merchant, portraying rank amateur amoral character. By all means get some MF, they are beautiful and by all means stay clear of Gina. read more

Tasteful, hip, unique, timeless, and elegantly-designed eyewear that will have people going "where did you get those frames?" Great quality, too. The only thing is, while the staff is friendly, I haven't gotten the impression that they are the most knowledgeable. Feels a bit like a big chain store while I'm in there, and they don't seem to know the answer to a lot of my questions (where other stores might have a very well-informed response). I took a picture of myself in a pair that was way oversized for my face, and when I said they were too big, she said it was due to my camera phone and not the frames themselves (not true; they were obviously oversized in person and made me look like a clown). I prefer it when salespeople give me the straight dope, but I guess those things are subjective... But regardless, my camera definitely did not lie! Also, while I absolutely love many of their styles, I do think some of the frames are way overpriced, some that are around $2,000 for the frames alone. I mean, come on, I can get beautiful handmade boutique frames from other brands in other stores for significantly less. What's up with that? All in all, I would still buy frames here again and recommend them to anyone looking for something super stylish yet tasteful. Really one of the best eyewear designers out there. read more
