A tiny museum in a beautiful park. The museum has well-curated and preserved artifacts from the era of the first settlers in the state. Despite this being tiny, they have many interesting artifacts I have not seen in similar establishments. The guide has many stories to tell. Well worth the stop! Clean park, Cool artifacts [Genoa NV] The park is free, the museum is $1. Very nice, clean park/museum with lush grassy area and shade trees. HISTORIC Mormon Station is the site of Nevada's first permanent non-native settlement and replicates the original 1851 Mormon Station trading post that burned down in 1910. It was rebuilt in 1947 as a museum and today it stores many original pioneer era artifacts. It was referred to as a fort but it was never one. There was never any military presence here nor did any battles take place. It was actually a stockade. BUILT AS A TRADING POST We took a self-guided walking tour inside the stockade (the enclosure of walls built with logs placed vertically, side by side). There were informative boards, one sign asked to imagine if you were standing at that very place and what would you expect to see... we would likely see oxen grazing, stable sheds, a haystack or two and a small vegetable garden. The stockade was used as corral for the oxen, horses and mules. COOL ARTIFACTS There were authentic exhibits used during that period. I especially found the semi trucks of the 1800's amusing. There was a real life piece of a freight wagon as one of the exhibits. The wagon displayed is a California rack-bed freight wagon. Mormon Station was worth a visit. I would recommend to include a stop here for a perfect loop around Lake Tahoe. Review #3736 read more

Mormon Station was an excellent representation of pioneer life in the the 1800's. The park was well laid out, with several plaques, real-life exhibits and authentic pieces from that era. The grounds were very accessible, thoughtfully presented and were an superb means to travel thru time to a difficult era of exploration, discovery, perseverance and pioneering. read more

My family heard about this park and decided to check it out on a Saturday afternoon in June. It is 30min-1hr from Mammoth depending on traffic. We parked on the street and donated $1 to go inside. They have history and artifacts inside the little museum. It was very informative. Outside there are tables to sit and enjoy the weather. read more

Really enjoyed our visit to this spot. It was during some kind of Genoa heritage festival, so they had a nice display all set up, illustrating the life of the early pioneers. People were dressed up in period costumes, sitting in little tents and showing us what daily life was like back in the day. The volunteers were very friendly and knowledgeable and we learned some interesting things. Cute little park in a charming small country town. The weather was perfect too. read more

We were staying at Stateline, Nevada and needed to travel to Gardnerville to visit a friend. Unfortunately for us, the most direct route, Highway 207, was closed for construction. We were forced to take Highway 50, crossing over to 395, and then heading south. Attempting to make the best of an unfortunate situation, we discovered the Mormon Station museum in Genoa would be right on our way. I really didn't have high expectations for this visit; small museum quality can vary tremendously. But this little museum is a gem, and definitely worth your time if you have an interest in California Trail pioneers making the long journey west. The museum is in a good-sized log cabin, with several rooms housing varied exhibits about that time. But what made the visit for us, was the personal attention and historical knowledge of the enthusiastic docents on site: Lynne and Emma. They were quite friendly and welcoming, giving us a personal tour of the high points voluntarily, and answering all questions, including about other parks and places to visit. We shared their enthusiasm by the time we were done! This station was like an oasis to the pioneers, having barely survived crossing the 450 mile Great Basin. Here they could buy supplies, and their animals refresh themselves with the abundant vegetation, and get prepared for hurdling the last giant gauntlet: crossing the Sierras to California. Alas for the pioneers, they were captive audience, and the Mormon Station owner could charge whatever the market could bear for supplies. They had to pay 21st century prices for some items (like bacon) in the 1850s! The Mormon Station museum sits in a beautiful park, with large trees and nice pathways to walk, a great place to have a relaxing lunch. Sandwiches, ice cream and gifts can be found at the Janoah General Store across the street. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area! read more

Mormon Station State Historic Park, located along the California Emigrant Trail in Genoa, is the site of Nevada's first permanent non-First Nation's settlement, established in 1851. A small log cabin museum, built in 1947, houses artifacts and displays of information from Nevada's early days. The site was once a trading post providing supplies to weary emigrants heading to California in search of gold. Today, the park includes a museum, a stockade area with several wagons, meandering pathways, individual picnic sites, a group use pavilion, and of a statue of Snowshoe Thompson (with Gayle's name on it among others). As Kara V. mentions this is a very nice, comfortable, and well-maintained park. I also like the trees, the shade, and the peace and quiet. These features are hidden during the crowds of Candy Dance, but on a typical day, you can just wander over and hang out. read more

A hidden treasure by far, this park is absolutely beautiful! Tucked away in the historic little town of Genoa, NV, Mormon Station Park is a really wonderful spot! If you grew up in the area like I did you probably mostly know it for the annual Candy Dance which is a weekend long affair of great craft booths, sweet booths and all around fun! But now that I have moved away and gotten the chance to come back I can really appreciate it for all it really is. Even without all the hustle and bustle if that annual fair this place is beautiful. Great spot to come and walk around exploring and a great place to have a photo shoot! My fiance and I did our engagement photos here and we could not be more happy with how great they turned out! If youre travelling through I would definitely recommend stopping by here for a yummy lunch in the park to soak up some sun and some beautiful history! read more

My husband and I recently participated in a historical and paranormal tour of Mormon Station State Park in Genoa, NV. This tour was fun, informative and exhilarating. It was a tour that required reservations but was free. They started with a fun cookout of hotdogs with all the fixings, salads, chips and drinks. If you wanted, you could camp out at the park which was a special treat since the park is usually for day use only. Then one of the park rangers, Chris, giving us the background and history of the park. This was followed by the tour leaders of Rosemary, Mike and Cat discussing their paranormal experiences, sharing their recorded evidence from previous investigations and answering any questions. The tour started around 8 and ended around 11 with our small group being allowed to go into a few buildings that are not usually open to the public. Overall, it was a fun and highly informative night. I would recommend this tour to anyone whether they are a believer in paranormal activity or a sceptic. read more

The museum was closed but the ground were still open. It's a very nice park like setting. We enjoyed reading all the historical signs and markers. Worth the stop. read more
