Vintage Italian - To be experienced! Wow, what an awesome place. This is truly a dining experience. Moro's is an authentic Italian restaurant. Everything is fresh and home made. The food is fabulous. I had the lentil soup to start and then the cannelloni stuffed with beef and veal sausage. It was terrific. On top of the excellent food, you have a restaurant with professional waiters with real 60s decor. They have some real nice touches. For examples, salads are made table side. After dinner, they bring you a complimentary bowl of fruit and walnuts. Definitely hoping that I have another business trip to Detroit so that I can eat Moro's again. read more

First the gripes. On a Saturday night, the service was slow: we arrived at 8:00 PM and still had nothing in front of us except bread and our drinks at 9:30. That meant an hour-and-a-half of being bumped by the waitstaff as they rushed up and down the cramped aisles in this tiny eatery. And am I the only diner who can do without the "gracious" tableside preparation of salads and flaming desserts? The fun wears very thin after the first couple of Cherries Jubilees burst into flames a foot from my face. That said, I have to confess that the food is so good it makes it all worth it. In fact, the Veal Columbo alone made it all worth it. It is one of those dishes you can recommend to your non-vegetarian friends without the slightest fear that they'll be disappointed. Absolutely wonderful. The gnocchi was, well, gnocchi, but the pesto was outstanding. For the romantically inclined, there is the Chateaubriand (prepared tableside, natch). The Beef Marsala and the Veal Marsala were both excellent. Moro's is not for everyone - there isn't room enough for everyone - but they are definitely worth a try. read more

Ambience - This place has that old mobster feel. The kind of place Frank Sinatra and the Rat pack would dine at. Service - Wait staff is always top notch. They always are in tuxes even during lunch hours and how they remember all the daily specials I don't know. To top it off they have many table side preparations they pull off that takes the meal to a compiler new level. Food/Drinks - It doesn't get much better then Moro's when it comes to eats. I always like to try new things but if they have any of the stuffed Cannoli (the "signature dish") I just can't resist. Overall - One of my top 5 places to eat when I'm home. Dear fellow Yelpers, Allow me to repeat the exact same thing that everyone has already said...this place is worth a visit for sure if you live in the area. If you are not in the area but are a die hard old school Italian fan, have at it. Food: The presentation was wonderful. I would love to meet the staff who are responsible for plating. Kudos to you. The portions were substantial..from your salad to your main course. Everything was fresh and flavorful. Ambiance: It's an old school feel, which is why I gave the place only 4 stars... I do prefer a trendy and modern atmosphere...but that is not what they are going for so I understand. Personally, I think an updated decor can still be accomplished while going with their authentic theme. Service: The service was very attentive and proactive. You could see staff just walking around (non-intrusively) checking out tables to see if you needed water/drink refills...and perfecting their timing of when they came to check on you. I could tell that our waiter, Marco, who has been there forever he says, could tell when it was the appropriate time to check on us, to offer another item, etc. Shout out to Marco! You wear the tux, the tux doesn't wear you and you are a true leader in fine dining service. (oh yeah all the waiters wear tuxedos) Notes: The flaming desserts are a super fun presentation to watch, and if you don't eat here all the time, then go for it...and make your meal special! There are actually some cool things to do within walking distance of this restaurant (most notably a movie theater) so make an evening of it! Lastly, we got lucky with parking, but be prepared to not get so lucky...although, the minor walk isn't bad with warm weather, and if someone does need to be dropped off at the door, that's an easy option. I wanted to love this place. I wanted my fiance to love this place. We went to Moro's to celebrate our anniversary. My fiance is somewhat picky, loves Italian food, and has lived Downriver all his life, but had never been here. I was SURE I was going to wow him. I was wrong. We were both underwhelmed. I was really underwhelmed. I'm vegetarian, so my choices were limited. Usually Italian is a safe choice, even for a vegetarian, but, surprisingly, my choices were limited to spaghetti with marinara or fettucini alfredo. Ok, that's fine, I love a good marinara and I can certainly be won over by a decadent, delicious alfredo sauce. Since it was a special occasion, i went with the fettucine alfredo. The fact that it costs more than 16 dollars is just plain ridiculous, but that's besides the point. The fact that it just didn't taste good, though? That's a problem. Pros: Huge portions Very tasty salad Cons: The house lambrusco (served by the glass only - I wonder why?) is Riunite Lambrusco. Really? This is fine dining? The prices are ridiculous. The service was not so stellar that I could look past the prices. I'm more than willing to pay the price for fantastic food and service. I'm not, however, willing to pay fine dining prices for a sub-Olive Garden experience. read more

A+ Markel my waiter was phenomenal. They do all the little things, pads of pre-cut butter, a bowl of fresh parmesiano with a spoon at your table, white linen table cloths, the waiter wears a tux, the buss boys wear a white jacket and a skinny tie. They toss a fresh salad table side, and at the end, they deliver a bowl of apples (green & red), oranges, and wall nuts. My Italian grandparents died 30+ years ago, they had this same tradition...which I vaguely recalled when they dropped the bowl off at my table, it was a sign! Six of us from 3 generations went to Moros for dinner on a Friday night. I liked it the minute I walked in. Décor is nice, the service was terrific. The salad was good as well as the minestrone soup. Decent bread. I ordered chicken breast with cream sauce and all the others ordered pasta dishes. Food was served promptly, the portions were large and hot. Then we were all in for somewhat of a disappointment. The entrees were bland. Bland, bland, bland. The chicken was tender but had virtually no flavor at all. The cream sauce must have been cream with some flour blended in to thicken it. No flavor at all. I don't think they even put any salt or pepper in it. Let alone some garlic, herbs, butter or olive oil. I would like to have tried other menu items because there may be other dishes that have more flavor. But I got the impression these dishes were intended to be bland and that's what the people who go here like. I can see how people might like this place. Its the kind of place you want to like because the people seem very nice and they do a great job. If the prices were half of what they were I would have given it 4 stars and would try some other items in hopes of finding something with more flavor. We've been eating at Moro's for 35 years. My wife and I and friends drive in from Canton, Farmington Hills, Waterford, and West Bloomfield to eat there. It is always worth the drive for such great meals. Because of its popularity, there is sometimes a short wait, during peak times. If you go to the restaurant during times or days that they are less busy, you'll usually be seated immediately, as we almost always are. By the way, 26 of us just ate there yesterday in celebration of our joint 70th birthday celebration. We are all 1964 graduates and most of us are tired and cranky. We were there for over three hours, eating, drinking and celebrating. Great meals, absolutely no complaints. Give them a try and tell them your expectations; I think they will try their best to accommodate you. They are just the best! ; ) Bon appétit! read more

This place was highly recommended and had a line waiting to be seated, so I thought I was in for a great dinner. After waiting for close to an hour for a table, we were finally seated. I did not mind the wait because the staff was working as hard and fast as they could. They were just severely under-staffed like everyone else. Plus, we had a chance to talk to many other patrons who were repeat customers. The service was slow, but that was okay. What wasn't okay was paying $60 for a dozen overcooked, chewy shrimp. I ordered the shrimp scampi special because it sounded divine! I was extremely disappointed to pay that much for a barely edible meal. I will not be returning to this restaurant. read more

Excellent place to eat! The atmosphere here conjures up fifties fine dining. It is very dimly lit with small table top candles to create intimate dining at its finest. The waiters always dressed in tuxs grooming every last crumb from the table. They have a daily list of specials and run through them verbally after they present you with an oversized menu. The menu speaks of Italian culinary delights and many things are prepared fresh right at your table. The salads are amazing! Fresh crisp lettuce, cici beans, chopped egg, fresh cracked pepper, drizzled with olive oil and vinegar. Simply divine! After your meal they offer coffee and a bowl of fruit and nuts. It is very classy. Sometimes there is a wait to be seated especially during weekends. This place is definitely worth the wait. read more

I will definitely be back to try the spaghetti! If their sauce is delicious I may have to change my rating to a 5... but for now we will go with a 4-4.5 I dined there on a Monday evening for the first time and had no trouble getting a table. The place is much smaller from what I had pictured, but it was small, dark and quaint. The dress was pretty casual and they had a steady flow of diners. We were seated promptly and greeted by a server. He asked what we would like to drink. I honestly wasn't sure if they had a liquor license and the server never gave us a wine menu, which I thought was strange for an Italian restaurant. I noticed a woman across from me had a glass of red, so I went ahead and asked if they had a cab, which the server named off 3 different ones, I then asked if he had a glass of Pinot Noir, which isn't all that common if the restaurant just has the basics. I was happy that they had it available and I went ahead and ordered it. Not sure the label, but the wine was smooth. After the server came back with our wine, he read off the specials and took our order. I ordered the Beef Marsala and my friend ordered the Beef (Tournedos) Rossini. We both ordered our meat medium-well. The entrees come with a salad which is made table side and is delicious. They add chickpeas and egg to the salad and the dressing is light, but flavorful, almost creamy. The entrees also come with a cup of soup. I had the minestrone which was perfect.By far the best minestrone I've had. When our entrees were served they came with potato and green beans. I was a little disappointed they didn't have a side of spaghetti instead, but I guess that just means I need to go back to try that. My dish was so flavorful. The Marsala gravy was delectable, I ended up dipping by green beans in the gravy because it was so tasty. The meat was cooked just right for me and didn't have a fatty piece on it. My portion was very large, especially considering I just had soup and salad. My friend's meat was cooked more on the medium to medium-rare side, but he said it still tasted great and there was no need to send it back. Unfortunately, we were too stuffed to try dessert, but it was great taking leftovers home for the following day. AS we waited for the check they came out with a bowl of fruit and nuts. Very different from other Italian restaurants I've been to, but I like the added touch. Overall great service, cool old school restaurant ambiance, tasty food, it just may be Allen Park's hidden gem. read more

I tried to order a spaghetti to go for my child to have when she came home from school & was told I can't. Rude staff but I still tipped 20%. The Shrimp Scampi at Moros's is absolutely wonderful - 1lb of huge delicious shrimp...I'm drooling just thinking about it! The tableside salad is wonderful as well. I am a stickler for service, and your glass will never get empty during your fvisit(5 stars!!). I stopped by here a couple of Saturday's ago for dinner with my wife and parents. Since we aren't from Detroit I turned to Yelp in order to help me find an Italian place. Whenever we first headed to Moro's I was a little turned off by the fact that they don't have a front window. So it felt more like you were entering a private area than a restaurant. However, as soon as we got inside the restaurant we were greeted by a man wearing a tuxedo and shown to our seats. The inside of the restaurant consists of white table cloth tables with seating for around 30 people or so. As my wife who is 100% Italian commented, it felt like an old school Italian joint in New York City. For dinner I decided to order the spaghetti pesto while my wife went with the eggplant Parmesan which was a special for the night. All of our meals came with salad and my wife and parents meals came with a soup as well. The first item out of the kitchen was our salad. It was prepared table side by our server and dished out to everyone. It tasted pretty good and the only negative comment that I could make about it was that it was overdressed. That didn't really deter me though as I tend to like extra dressing on my salads. Once we had finished the salad then our soups came to our table. These weren't the small cups that I am used to getting included with meals but were quite large bowls. Since I did not get a soup myself, my wife allowed me to try her New England clam chowder. It was creamy and flavorful with a lot of clams and potatoes. After everyone at our table had finished their soup our entrees came out. The sheer amount of spaghetti that came with my meal was impressive and it was all coated nicely with a flavorful pesto. While I doubted my ability to finish the meal it was so good that I pushed through and let myself get throughly stuffed. Everyone else at our table also got large portions of food and really enjoyed it. We had noticed that once the busboys had cleared the entree plates at other tables they received what looked like a bowl of fruit. It came to our table as well and ended up being a complimentary bowl filled with an orange, a red apple, a green apple and some walnuts. My family found it rather fun to eat and a nice ending to our amazing meal. I also wanted to note that the service at Moro's was some of the best service that I have ever had. Both the servers and the bus boys were on point quickly swooping in to clear out empty dishes and never allowing a water glass to go empty. The bottom line for me is that I would head back to Moro's again in the future. Everything about the place was pretty awesome and I especially appreciated the awesome food, great service and what I thought was great value for my money. I came here with a friend yesterday and both of us were completely unimpressed. We got saganaki as an appetizer which was pretty standard, except it didn't come with any pita bread. Hmm. The waiter told us to use the giant loaf of bread they brought earlier. Hmm. I ordered the house-made ravioli which was on special and my friend ordered the spaghetti. These are two dishes that any good Italian restaurant should have mastered, right? WRONG My ravioli was ok, but it tasted like something out of a freezer bag with canned tomato sauce poured on top. And this was on special? My friend tried it and she expressed the same sentiments. She ate about 1/6th of her spaghetti because she disliked it so much. Mind you, the waiter actually RECOMMENDED the spaghetti and said it was one of his favorites. No, no, no, and NO. I tried hers and felt the same way she did. The noodles were overcooked, the tomato sauce (once again) tasted like it was out of a can. The plate was also overflowing and both of our dishes looked like they were straight out of a cafeteria line. The house salad that accompanied my meal was also terrible. Our waiter made it tableside and the lettuce was STILL soggy. I don't even know how that's possible. Not kind of soggy...I'm talking every single piece of lettuce was soggy. There was one grape tomato in my salad and a few tiny pieces of egg. SO DISAPPOINTING. I was really looking forward to coming to this place because several people recommended it. I just moved downriver and wanted to find at least ONE great restaurant. Unfortunately, I haven't found one yet. I have traveled all over the world and tried hundreds of restaurants. This restaurant makes chain restaurants like Papa Vino's and Carino's look like five stars. Trust me....skip it and save your money because this place is not even remotely worth it. I was actually mind blown. I pictured the cooks in the back laughing because they just pulled some CISCO ravioli out of the freezer and thought it was funny how people were raving about the food. To be fair, I didn't try the veal, but when an Italian restaurant can't even master two basic dishes I have absolutely no desire to ever go back. Classic Italian ambiance. I'd like to give it a Six star rating! Wonderful meal, & wonderful service from a gorgeous tuxedo attired Waiter named Rick. Old school " Soup to Nuts". Literally! We started with Saganaki- what's not to love about flaming cheese. Minor complaint - bread was NOT warm. Minestrone was right on & the Swiss onion soup was delicious ...& they gave us a full bowl ( not a cup) & plenty Hot....so important to me! Rick prepared our salad at the table/ simple but FRESH & nummy. Celebrating our 42 wedding anniversary on a Wednesday night...& we met 2 other couples who shared our wedding date. "May the fourth be with you!" Too fun. I got veal Oscar - very rich sauce, veal was so tender & delicious . Asparagus & broccoli were aldente... as they should be. Hubby had a perfectly prepared steak. This place is a must for everyone who enjoys the experience of a true fine dining experience . A bit costly... But worth it! read more

We live about 60 miles from Moro's but we must have been here 30-40 times over the years as it is "special" and we tie it in when we go to Greenfield Village and the DIA. EVERY TIME the food and service has been great ( i saw the bad review from Toby W below and don't know what that's about?) ! On the outside it's just another door in a row of commercial buildings on Allen road. But once you are inside it's cozy and comfortable and as I say the food and service are great. If you want to impress and feed a guest well take them to Moro's. With our children and grandchildren we sometimes have 9 at a table- no problem, they move tables together. read more

Kind of a weird experience. It's not the sort of place that a casual youngish person on her own would usually go for lunch, but I had time to kill and thought I might stumble onto something a little bit transcendent. It's a dark, intimate, old-fashioned place, with candlelight and white tablecloths, waiters in tuxes, and Sinatra songs in the background. I had lentil soup, which was really very good, and a half order of fettucini alfredo, which was absolutely a heart bomb. I made it through about a fifth of it. It tasted okay, but if I'm going to need a triple bypass for dessert I want spectacular. Fruit and nut bowl comes at the end of the meal. I had half an apple, hoping that might be some sort of antedote. All in all I'm prepared to believe this is a super duper place for a special event, ideally one involving grandparents. read more

Veal Piccata had a lovely light lemony sauce quite tasty. Ordered the limoncello mascarpone cake to take home and it was divine. So moist and delicious. If you want Italian, come to Moro's. If you want exceptional service; come to Moro's. If you want to be transported back in time for a few hours, come to Moro's. If you want one of the best dinners you will ever have in your life: come to Moro's. When you're hungry or just in need of a hearty dinner that doesn't involve a microwave: (I'm looking at you, Olive Garden,) this is the place. Everything is prepared fresh and there are even table side dinner service options on the menu. (Only places like Lawry's still do table side service. It's seriously old school and seriously awesome.) The Veal Olympia; which is one of those, is outstanding. Their lamb chops are superb, and their lobster is succulent and delicious. They serve a fabulous Eggplant Parmigiana, along with the usual roster of Italian dishes, and their steaks are a-mazing. Everything comes out perfectly cooked and delightfully hot: including the vegetables, which are cooked with just the right amount of garlic. Moro's has a wonderful salad that is prepared table side for you by your waiter; (ask for Marco. He's an absolute delight,) and the salad is simple: lettuce, tomatoes, chickpeas, egg, and a house vinaigrette that the waiter prepares fresh for you. You will be offered fresh pepper as well. I recommend it highly. There is a well of Parmigiano Reggiano cheese on each table. I also recommend that on the salad. Soup is also complimentary with every meal. In addition, Moro's has a wonderful range of appetizers to choose from. The antipasti plate for two will feed four easily, and the marinated mushrooms are-out-of-this-world good. After dinner, you are offered coffee, cappuccino, tea, or limoncello, and given a bowl of fruit and nuts, but save your appetite for dessert... the Macedonian is simply wonderful and the tableside preparation of Strawberries Romanoff (not on the menu, but you can ask for it, ) is one of the most heavenly desserts EVER. I can find no fault in Moro's. True, it's a bit pricey, but you pay for quality and you get quality in spades. The portions are ginormous and you'll be leaving with leftovers. There is nothing here that isn't delicious. It's a joy to eat at a restaurant where the waitstaff is dressed in suits and bow ties, Sinatra and Peggy Lee are serenading you over the speakers, the service is exemplary and the foodis absolutely stellar. We were there for the first time for a friends birthday and it will not be our last. The service is professional and impeccable, every need is attended to timely. Then the food, from the minute your appetizer plate is served through the exquisite dessert you are reminded that you could be in New York or Boston in a 5 star Italian restaurant. I could not believe the size of the lobster tail or the taste of my surf and turf. My mother had the veal Parmesan and it was outstanding. Every taste is special. They know what they are doing. Went to Moro's last night for the first time for my moms birthday. There was 8 of us total including 2 kids. The service and food were excellent, everything came out hot and fast. The server was very knowledgeable of everything on the menu and was very present during our dinner. After dinner he even brought out sundaes for our kids, made there night. Love this place. My family and I have had dinner and lunch here many times and the food and service are consistently good. The Chicken Tetrazzini is fantastic and their filet mignon is probably the best I've had. The table side salad service is very cool and delicious. Moros is great if you like Italian and need a break from all the trendy places. Visiting Moros is like stepping back in time- in the best way. Old school service, meals and portions. With their "soup to nuts" experience, you won't leave hungry. They don't take reservations and the wait can be long on a Friday or Saturday night, but it's definitely worth it.
