I've been there twice and was not impressed. The first time my wife and I were crowded into the ~ 9' x 12' waiting space for an hour's wait, I talked to a regular who recommended the Manicotti. I had that while my wife had the filet, I was disappointed in my dish but drooled over what looked like a great steak that my wife was eating. I vowed to get the filet the next time. The second time we went was totally disappointing. The wait was over an hour pressed up against a multitude of people. Upon being seated and ordering, our waiter returned to our table with the salad and set it up tableside. At that point he recognized people that he knew across the room and left the unserved salad to engage in a conversation that lasted at least 5 minutes. We had both ordered the filet at $33.50 ea. and it wasn't even a center cut portion. They were cooked med-rare as ordered but were not seasoned. They were also cooked on a flat-top (not flame broiled as I prefer). They put a gravy over the filet that tasted a lot like canned Heinz Savory Beef Gravy, yuk. The place was loud so you couldn't talk to each other. We had 20-something kids behind us liberally using the f-word at the top of there voices, and our waiter sucked. (At one point he closed the tablecloth up into his serving platform and almost ripped the tablecloth off the table.) I love this place. A friend recommended that we eat here, and we have been about 6 times now. The one thing I dont like about this place is that is does not take reservations. They mIx the salad table side and also have table side flaming desserts (as well as flaming cheese oopa!) decent wine selection and excellent service. One of my favorite restaurants downriver. From the salads to the flamming deserts you cannot go wrong here. If your in a hurry, you should let them know because they serve in the romantic European style. Been going here for years and have never had a complaint. It's a small restaurant and I've always wondered why they never expanded because many will wait an hour inside and out. The food is great, but whoever answered the phone is RUDE!!! We placed a carryout order (yes carryout....we were at work and wanted something good!!) But the lady that answered has the rudest manners!! I could barely get the first order out of my mouth before she would ask, "is that all?" (She said this three times) I finally told her i will tell you when "that is all!" But enough about her, the food is really good!!! The Fettucine is nice and rich, very flavorful!!!! I reckon I ought to change my profile name to "Meh". I just keep having all of these 'meh-moments'. Today was another. Crap. I've been to Moro's in the past while visiting the D, and I thought it was okay. I had never been for lunch until today. A friend of mine was in from Milwaukee and I told her about Moro's and we decided to meet there. The service was fine and not too intrusive. The wine by the glass was okay, too, but the wine glasses were cheap (think of the kind of wine glass you might get if you dared to order wine at a dive bar)... After hearing the specials my friend opted for the whitefish and I decided to 'go for it' and order one of the regular menu staples--sauteed chicken livers and onions, which I had never had at Moro's in the past. Yum, said my mouth when I placed my order.. The salad that accompanied our mains was good---fresh, not too heavy on the dressing, and prepared table-side with a bit of hokey flourish. My only concern/disappointment was that the olive oil was of a low quality. Can't say much about the cold, stale bread that was served except, "Avoid at all costs." My friend's order of whitefish looked okay/pretty, but the fish was taste-free (hey, at least it wasn't overcooked). Her sides of potatoes and green beans were nicely prepared and presented. My chicken liver dish, however, well, however, well, however, well, it was gross. In more ways than one. First of all, don't ever overcook a piece of liver, no matter what type of animal it comes from. These were definitely overcooked. Big time. And served on a huge bed of pasta that was so warm/hot that it kept on cooking the chicken livers for the entire lunch. But the biggest sin from the kitchen was that the chicken livers were served in a SWEET sauce. What the?? Don't offer me sauteed chicken livers and onions without first informing me that, if I do decide to order them, they will be served in a sweet sauce! Yechhh! Eewwwww! Over pasta, over rice, over anything. And this was not just any sweet sauce. This was cloyingly sweet. Without any complexity/depth. Just sweet. Might as well have opened a bottle of honey and drizzled it all over everything. The after-dinner plate of fresh fruit and nuts is always a nice touch at Moro's, but please Sr. Chef, take a look at what else is coming out of your kitchen of late. Moro's was overall one of the best dining experiences we've ever had! From the moment you sit down, the wait staff is attentive whether it's refilling your beverage or clearing a plate off the table. The food was outstanding, to say the least! I had the Alfredo! It was to die for! Not only was the sauce tasty, but the noodles were cooked to perfection and there was enough left over for two lunches! My fiancé had the salmon. That too was delicious and cooked to perfection. With both meals you got soup and salad that was hand tossed at your table. For dessert we had bread pudding which was soaked in jack Daniels overnight. It was served hot and over vanilla ice cream! We wouldn't come here for just any night out, but we will come back for a nicer date soon! read more

Hadn't been there in quite awhile and surely won't go back based on service, food and the filthy bathroom that had no soap or towels to dry your hands. The food was average at best and highly priced. The green beans were frozen and the shrimp scampi hardly had any garlic and were all different sizes. Reminded me of a cattle call....get 'em in and get 'em out. Too crowded and the wait to get a table was long and definitely NOT WORTH THE WAIT! We went there for a special occasion and was truly disappointed. Service was average at best and we were seated in a corner next to the kitchen where we kept smelling a weird odor coming from the kitchen. This is a hidden gem! They're willing to cater to whatever you need. The service was excellent, they checked on you but not to much. We never had plates left on the table. This place is the true definition of a ma and pop restaurant. The people that took me here have been coming for the last 20 years and Mark has been their waiter everytime. Mark was one of the best waiters I have ever had. We got salads, clam chowder, and rolls which were all very good. I ordered the cannelloni because the menu looked way to good to decide so I took marks choice. It was out of this world. I tried to Shrimp Scampi, and lobster and prime rib which was excellent. We topped it all of with a Banana Fosters home made at the table which was one of the best desserts I have ever had and Mark made it a work of art. Im definitely coming back here!!! read more

A real Downriver diamond. This is about as nostalgic 1950s/60s as you can get. For instance they serve Veal Oscar and provide table side service for salads, Cherry Jubilees, and Banana Fosters. The waiters are very charming and entertaining. The food is great - super large portions for the price. I couldn't even breathe by the time we left because I consumed so much. Nice ambience if that's what you're going for. The menu really needs to be updated, its pretty limited unless you like veal, of which there are many options. They really need to increase their chicken dishes, as there are only three on the menu (a fourth is chicken livers...really?). I would expect more considering that it's an Italian restaurant: chicken piccata, chicken Marsala, etc. The salads are prepared table side, which is a nice touch but how hard is it to toss a salad that's nothing but iceberg lettuce, a few cherry tomatoes and hard boiled egg? Some alternative lettuces would make a nice fresh, updated addition. The meals we ordered were good, 1/2 baked chicken, veal parm, fish & chips and chicken cacciatore. Had dinner at Moro's last night. This place is a little hole in the wall that most people would pass unless they had prior knowledge of how special it is. Our meal was incredible, just amazingly delicious old school Italian cuisine. Everything was fresh, beautifully prepared and delicious. I had eggplant Parmesan. Old-school Italian at its best! Moro's brings that fine dining Italian food experience but you don't feel out of place if you show up without a suit and tie on. Servers are always friendly and I've never had a bad meal here. Table-side desserts are quite a show. The fruits and nuts after the meal give it that authentic Italian feel. Here's the thing: don't go to Moro's if you want your standard rushed meal prepared conveyor belt style so the place can turn tables as quickly as possible. Sit down, have a glass of wine, enjoy the company of the people you are with, get multiple courses, relax and enjoy the food! And either make reservations or arrive early in the evening because this place gets busy busy and it's not the largest of restaurants. read more

I had such high hopes; a couple people told me very good things. I noted another review saying this "is the best restaurant in Allen park", which is significant - for those who never leave Allen park, which must cover a total of about 4 people (if that many). A little like saying "best restaurant on the west half of the north side of 47th street, between 7th & 8th Ave. in Manhattan". Maybe, but what about the umpteen other restaurants within the immediate vicinity? The pasta was ok, but the thing that made this ONE visit to Moros forever memorable was the shrimp. Whatever I had - some pasta entree (it was several months ago and a little bland, hence my partially faded memory) - the waiter asked "Would you like shrimp with that?" He could have easily said "Would you like a LITTLE shrimp with that?", because the portion was quite small. Then the bill. I assumed there was a mistake - the "shrimp charge" about doubled the price of the (dinner) entree. When I asked the waiter, there was a bit of an attitude - "You got the shrimp (I was waiting for a "DUH - ya got shrimp ya glutton, what'd ya expect." We were having dinner w/another couple, and the consensus 'ok, but I'd never bother to come back, and for the $, the value was not particularly good. It strikes me as a place that may have been good, but has gotten complacent - overly reliant on a (dwindling?) regular clientele - certainly not a dining experience I'd want to repeat. And I'm not particularly picky. As a postscript, the couple we ate with - and regularly dine out with - frequently ask "You want a little shrimp with that - better check your credit card limit before you say yes." We laugh now, but beware the 'excessively priced extras' (that you'll find out about when you get the check) game Moros plays. read more

The best fine Italian dining in Mi... period!! I usually go on special occasions as to wow whomever I'm dining with. They serve the standard dishes like spaghetti bolognese, and veal marsala, both of which are familiar and refreshingly new at the same time. And some traditional authentic dishes as well like beef rossini, which is prime beef tenderloin with pate foie gras. Very delicious! Moro's has an appetizer tray that makes you feel like your eating at a trattoria in Rome. It's called antipasto Renee which is marinated beef, marinated mushrooms, feta cheese, shrimp, 2 types of olives, peppers, and tomatoes. You can order them separately but I feel it's best to order the tray so you can taste them all. The clam chowder is some of the best I've ever had and is something Moro's is famous for. Some of the dinner service menu items, and all salad and desserts are served table side. The salad is prepared and tossed right at your table side which is something you just don't find anymore. The flambee... which you MUST get even if your stuffed, is prepared and fired up at your table as well. It's really interesting and fascinating to watch the servers prepare the flambee. The server peels the orange in a spiral, then pours brandy down the peel and lights it on fire. I always get the bananas foster flambee, but they also have cherry, and Macedonian which has cherries, bananas, and peaches. The prices are a very decent, a little on the high end, as is expected from a fine restaurant, but I feel it's well worth it because you get huge portions along with impeccable service. Everything at Moro's works together so well. The food, the wait staff in tux's, the dim atmosphere, just perfect. The interior doesn't have the cheesy red checker decor, instead it's modern, and very classy. It's not trendy at all... YET, and is one of the last MI secrets. Thankfully, being featured on food network spotlighting their famous flambee didn't push the owners to go corporate. Moro's is perfect for that special intimate dinner or dinner out with the family and friends. read more

Free parking on the street. Minestrone soup is very good. Meat filled cannelloni is very good, but different than most restaurants in that it is a folded over tube of pasta instead of a long tube. Service is great. Fine dining at lunch, but you do not have to dress for fine dining. Cannelloni is not on the menu, but usually a lunch special. Several soups offered daily. This is diner quality at fine dining prices with great waiters. The atmosphere is ok, but not great. My tableside special was called Veal Olympic. No price listed, I was surprised to see it was $45 and here's why: The sauce was obviously congealed and had to be reconstituted with water when he made it. It was a very simple dish. I was also served a potato that was obviously cooked earlier and reheated. The green beans were the cut frozen variety straight from the bag. The soup was good. The bread was grocery store quality and they served it with hard butter pats that made spreading it impossible. We got a vat of spread yourself grated parm just like the can you use at home. No fresh shaved or grated parm to be found. The salad was iceberg lettuce, 1 grape tomato and canned garbonzo beans. The meal was not bad for a $10 diner meal. The service was great, but way more than necessary for the food and atmosphere quality. Bottom line.....way overpriced!!! read more

I don't know what to say to make this review helpful. Every morsel of food was great. Service was great. I don't want to sound repetitive but there was nothing I could complain about if I had to. Oh, OK, the prices are a little high but not for what you are getting. For some reason, I just went back there for the first time in about twenty years. I had to laugh at Raphie B.'s diss of ruinite Lambrusco. While its easy for a wine snob to dismiss Riunite, they consistently make good quality, inexpensive wines. Not all meals call for a complex wine, sometimes a simple wine is exactly what a meal calls for. Kudos to Moro's for knowing this. read more

We had a wonderful dinner on a Tuesday night with impeccable service. We started with a glass of red wine, then the delicious table side salad. I enjoyed the Swiss onion soup imencly while my friend loved the minestrone soup. We split the shrimp scampi and eggplant parmesian and loved it all. The shrimp were very large and extra garlicky while the eggplant was thick and just crispy enough to be irresistible. We took a lot of the pasta home to allow room for a piece of the chocolate cake. The cake was light, surprisingly, while still being moist and layered with an amazing chocolate icing/moose filling. So delicious we didn't leave a crumb. This is my all-time FAVORITE restaurant. I have been going here with my family for 20+ years now, even when I was a baby. Moro's is excellent. The salad you get with your entree is delicious. The minestrone soup is a specialty of theirs. I always get the beef tenderloins sauteed in a brown sauce with garlic potatoes and green beans.
