I have been playing Morro Bay for more than 25 years.I have always said that if I could only play one more round this is the place.The views are outstanding, condition always top notch.The course has changed over the years with the Removal of so many pines.It plays easier as of late, but the greens and weather are its best defender.As far as California golf goes its one of the best deals in the entire state.The course itself is good for low handicappers and high ones.They have four sets of tee boxes and playing the Blacks makes for a different round than the whites. I have hosted a tournament here for 25 years and I have dealt with golf pros, tournament directors and catering and have always had a great experience.This place should be on everyones bucket list of places to play golf! read more

We were staying at the Inn at Morro Bay across the street for my brother's wedding and decided to stop here for a beer or two (we greatly surpassed that). From what I saw, the golf course looked beautiful and would have been fun to golf on (I'm an amateur and felt comfortable enough to want to try golfing, but alas we didn't have time). We did, however, stop by the bar for some libations. What started as a pitcher of 805 and of the other one (I can't remember) turned into three pitchers of each and several rounds of Yukon Jack shots. It was a nice family bonding experience before the wedding, especially as we stumbled back to the hotel (cars safely stowed at the golf course). I would love to stop by again for a game and for a more accurate rating. Three stars because the bar wasn't bad and the view was great, I just didn't explore enough. read more

The view of Morro Bay is beautiful, but the course is terrible. The greens are the slowest greens I've ever played on and the pace of play is as equally slow. Definitely one to avoid, check out Cypress Ridge and Monarch Dunes. Don't waste your day unless you're an absolute hack, which the majority of the players are who play this course, if in Morro Bay maybe drive up and check the view but avoid this sub-par muni. read more

Greens are in good condition, course overall good condition, staff is nice. Two stars for that. Problem, 7 minute tee times on course, backed up golf, long wait times and 6 hour rounds. I would suggest 10-15 minute tee times. There are alot of hackers and weekend golfers, 7 minute tee times don't work. While waiting we saw balls hit into us from other fairways and a few groups around us had some close calls. Course is tight and blind tee shots. "Fore" is common because of tightness of golf course. For those with a handicap I would suggest picking slow days and unpopular tee times to get some enjoyable golf in. If you just want to hack a round and and have a lot of time, good spot. Views are great. Carts are rough and cart paths are rougher. Greens play off the tallest mountain, Black Hill, and fall is heavy to the ocean. Green reading is the challenging part of the course, they defy your eyes on what they are going to do, pretty cool. What looks uphill, downhill, left or right all plays off the ocean on most holes. This course gets 3+ stars if you could play a round in 4 hours or less. read more

Beautiful golf course. The views are stunning especially if you're lucky enough to capture a sunny day. The course it kept in immaculate condition. Friendly and polite people from pro shop to starter and restaurant. By the way, the food here was great too. Fairways and rough were in top notch condition. So were the greens. Some courses knowledge is helpful. Drives tended to roll off fairways if not hit correctly for the slope. On the greens, no putt rolled straight. There is a break on every putt. Definitely a challenge. I can't wait to play again. read more

Good solid course a great view. Carts are on the older side and we had to call the pro shop to send out a new one after our first cart ran out of energy but the new cart came in a few mins and we were back on the course without having to let anyone play through. If you're looking for some great views, you can't beat Morrow Bay GC. It's no Pebble Beach but you can't complain much when you can see the ocean while you play. $17 per cart rider is pretty pricey though. read more

Wow! Great place to golf. View is spectacular. The junior rate unbeatable. Marshall nice enough to check in with us and offer advice on how to putt the sloped greens. Be satisfied with a three putt. They don't sell cigars but local gave me two of his. Probably out of their control but wish my 17 year old (who drives a car) could drive the carts, it slows down play. read more

Surprised this is only a 'three-star' course. It is a very fun course with tricky greens and memorable holes along with ocean views at a good price. What do the haters want? There are not many bunkers (three?) but plenty of tough holes. If the wind is blowing, look out. Number 2 is a very tough hole. Also number 9, 17, 18, 13 among others. Even the 'easy' holes are tough if you mess up your tee shot (holes like 11, 12, 3 and others). Very fun course and a California classic. I suggest you play it. read more

Played a round with three others Memorial weekend. The course was in excellent shape! The pro shop was understaffed and the overall appearance looked like they were going out of business (which they are not). Golf carts were unavailable and we were not notified of this until we arrived (the pro shop staff new about the event several days in advance). Not all of us had bags we could carry, yet they didn't have complimentary pull carts or for that matter, to rent. After I bought a new pull cart (30% off MSRP), we finally made it to the first tee. Even though none of us planned to walk the course, we had a great time golfing. Plenty of great shots made and a lot of strokes lost! Morro Bay Golf Course...you gotta love it! read more

Really enjoy playing at Morro Bay Gof Course. Its a very challenging golf course. The greens are a challenge and your shots have to be somewhat accurate. The weather is ideal and the views are excellent. The only negitive thing I have is I wish they would make everyone ride. Or set a time in the afternoon for walkers. I have been behind walkers on this course several times and it made for a very long and non-enjoyable day. The staff is ver nice and the course looks great.... read more

You can't argue the fact the the course is beautiful, but the experience isn't worth what they charge. I paid almost $70, including cart fees. For that, I would expect an above average experience. The marshall was pushing us on the front nine even though it was the foursome in front of us playing without carts that were slowing us down. Then, I paid $17 dollars for two drinks and a disgusting grilled cheese sandwich. The bartender acted like she had never mixed a drink before. On the back nine, we were pacing faster than the front, but the over zealous marshall popped up again on hole 14 telling us there was a backup on 11. We had not been pushed the entire time. It was a large group that teed off within minutes of each other on 10 that was backing up on 11. I told him we would pick up the pace and asked him not to stand there and stare at us. He told me he had to. After me and another member of our group shanked our balls because we were rushed, he looped around just in time to sit on top of the hill and watch us hit our third shot. I have been playing for fifteen years and have never been so insulted. I went into the clubhouse to tell them what happened while the other three kept playing. Their response was "sorry, the marshalls are volunteers." Well, I guess they got what they paid for, but I sure didn't. I will not play this course again. read more

It is a shame that a golf course at such a beautiful location could still manage to ruin our experience as excited travelers that drove for hours just to check this course out. I can't think of any business that has ever been more rude, condescending and just flat out MEAN than this course. Our group may be younger than the average golfers there, but we were all acting appropriately and we all work in customer service and would NEVER treat our customers the way we were treated. The people serving the food and drinks had a very aggressive and rude attitude, the man that charged us in the very beginning was extremely sarcastic and arrogant, and the fellow golfers went out of their way to stop what they were doing to be rude and confrontational about our skill set. We will NEVER return, and will go out of our way to turn others away from this course. No, we are not professionals. Yes, we are under 25 years old, but we were very eager to expand our golfing experience and were excited to improve and learn. There was no reason why the staff and customers from the first MOMENT we arrived until we left should basically attempt to push us out, but I'm pretty sure the staff and other regular golfers truly believe that everyone that doesn't regularly golf there isn't worthy of breathing their air. Every person we encountered would have no idea what to do if they didn't think they had status and money. Truly disgusting. If I could prevent just one person from getting belittled the way that we did, then this review is worth it. Get off your high horse, Morro Bay Golf Course. read more

Scenic golf course surrounded by trees and Morro Bay and the Pacific Ocean views. Not a difficult course for low handicap players as the course is fairly wide and short. Putting was probably the most difficult part of the course. Fairly fast greens with grass orientation seeming to play more of a role in the ball path than we were used to. Midday rates are a bargain if you don't need to play first thing in the am. Would definitely recommend a round here if you're staying in the area! read more

I don't get the negativity. The scenery is great. I've been coming here regularly, the people are all nice. I've played a few rounds with total strangers, and always had nice experiences. No marshals have ever bothered me. Greens are the most challenging ever. And no, they don't always break to the ocean, try 13 for example. Not many bunkers, but lots of trees to worry about, lots of sloping fairways that give you tough lies. All in all, not as challenging as Chalk Mountain, but still a good challenge, beautiful scenery, and always a nice experience. read more

We had a foursome with a relatively early T-TIme with fellow co-workers. We were all excited to enjoy a great day with round of golf on a paid holiday! Our group is probably less skilled than your average weekend golfer. We just wanted to get together as work buddies and have a good time with what we enjoy doing. So after a few holes the course marshal was on us like flies on s***! So at that time we were "urged" or rushed and was told to wait to have groups play ahead of us twice (yes, we sucked); we get it, as previous course experience if the marshal is "monitoring" he is either watching our game and laughing at us, OR hurry the f*** up your holding up traffic! He was very intimidating to say the least, boarder line a**hole! Our group did NOT appreciate that at all as we just paid 72 dollars each on a golf course; comparatively less than most "premium" courses on the central coast, but to us that was as a lot of $$$$. My group agreed that the game of golf is already very (to us) difficult as it is, and we did NOT need the pressure or intimidation from the course marshal to make it harder to play such an enjoyable (yet difficult at times) game! We pondered half way through the back nine to just say F-it and head to the pro-shop and demand a partial refund, and enjoy our day off else where, but we paid, and we all agreed and decided to at least finish the course no matter how bad it got because we were over it! Unfortunately, we won't be back again, as it wasn't worth it to be rushed or pressured; at least NOT almost 290 dollars worth it from our group! read more

I would have given 4 stars if our cart had not died by the 15th hole. When I called for a new cart they said "ok", but after waiting 20 min nobody showed up with a new one. The Cart was limped along, only having enough power to hold one person and often having to push the cart uphill. We finally had to ditch the cart on the 18th and walk. When we returned and I told them what happened they said sorry and sometimes the calls get routed to another course. I knew this was not the case since I had called the same number earlier for information about the course.. There was no sincere apology or compensation offered.. However the course has great views and fun to play. The course it self it kept up pretty well for a public course.. I will return again.. Another note.. After checking in on the yelp app, there is s 5 dollar of range balls or beverages. the bartender had never seen or heard of this coupon she still honored it without delay.. read more

Well I have only played golf at black Hill twice I really enjoyed the course it was in good condition both times I played. However I recently moved to the area and had not planned on playing memorial day weekend but I carry my clubs most of the time as I was pulling into Morrow Bay I decided to check out my luck at the golf course. I arrived at 7:00 a.m. I figured they could fit a single with a reasonable of wait time. The lady at the pro shop desk said it would be 8:30 before I could get a game that she had a twosome at that time I was ok with wait so went to the restaurant and had a cup of coffee made a few phone calls hit the putting green at about 8:05 I went to the pro shop to pay my green fees and get ready I was the third in line here is where it started going south. It too until 8:30 to get to desk to pay I overheard the young man at the dest tell the two guys in front of me that obviously did not have a tee time that he could squeeze them in at 8:30 a.m. i smelled trouble at this point. I informed the young man at the desk that i had an 8:30 he said that he could not find my reservation i told him that i had checked in at 7:00 a.m. the lady at the desk said that that was correct however she obviously did not save my information that i gave her at 7:00 a.m. so i was out after having waited an hour and a half the lady at the desk confirmed that the mix up was her fault with no apology the young man said if i wanted to play he could get me a game at 9:30 a.m. i was furious the lack of professionalism and consideration after having waited as long i had was disappointing of course i was not going to wait another hour so i left angry its like they didn't care like it was no big deal really pissed me off. Someone should teach the old lady at the desk how to use a computer and all should take a course in customer service I would have expected at the very least an apology and a free bucket of range balls while I wait something to show that they had screwed up not me. After reading some of the other reviews it may have been wiser to not go there to begin with overall I cant rate the course from this visit but if the course is anything like the office help the im not sure if I will ever return for a game that's too bad read more
