Our group went to Mortimer's recently for some great food - and we got it. I have enjoyed the Mort Burger in the past, but decided to go with the Stuffed Burger this time. The burger I received was quite good, but it was not "stuffed" (it had Gouda cheese, but the burger had 2 separate patties instead of the cheese inside 1 big patty); also the order went to the kitchen for Blue Cheese, but it came out with Gouda. The handmade onion rings were quite good and tasty. Most of our group left quite full and satisfied. Regardless, our group had a pleasant meal and our service was quite good considering the size of our group. Did I mention that they had Live Music in the other room during our visit, and he was good too? They also had a patio that would have been delightful, but it was full. Been going here from time to time over the years. They have daily specials you can check on the website or Facebook. Food is normally very good. Had the salmon tonight and it was very good. Cooked just right. Bar tender, Mark was excellent. He was always on spot with topping your water or refilling your drink. Great very casual atmosphere any day of the week. Went to Mortimer's on a Friday with my wife to try something new, been hearing the radio commercials so we said lets try. Easy to get to , good parking. We were greeted pleasantly at the bar, we ordered drinks and appetizers, we ordered the baked oysters with butter and Parmesan cheese and the hot wings. The food was fantastic hot, flavorful and the service was perfect. For Dinner my wife ordered the Mahi Mahi sandwich and I the Mort burger with fries and a side of onion rings, man was that good, and a big shout out to our bartender Mark who takes time out to drive an elderly patron home so that he can get out of the house nice touch Mark. I ordered the Chicken Beauregard, green beans, and potato salad and was not impressed one bit. The Chicken Beauregard was cold and tasteless. The seafood that they put on (shrimp and crawfish) wasn't sautéed nor fresh, the shrimp were out of a can and there was one crawfish tail on it. Seems the seafood mixture is in a premixed bowl in the kitchen. Now onto the green beans - bland and out of a can. The potato salad was fresh and edible but I didn't like shredded cheese in it but it was edible. The only plus was the waitress was attentive and kept the glasses filled. I got the Gouda-stuffed burger. Came out super hot, and it was deliciously classic. Also, the fries were some of the best I've ever had anywhere! Definitely recommend, next time you're near Summer and Perkins around lunch or dinner time. I've had their oysters, as well, and they're worth a visit. read more

My boyfriend surprised me and took us to Mortimer's for the .50 oysters. I was excited because I LOVE raw oysters (Sharky's has. 50 oysters, awesome BTW). But this place was a huge disappointment in everything!!! My daughter got the seafood pasta- imitation crab meat, frozen shrimp and bland sphagetti noodles with powdered cheese, really!? Ate here a week or so ago and we ordered the rib eye steaks. Toughest rib eye I've ever eaten in my life, full of gristle as was the other persons. We told the waitress but no one came out to express concern at all. I like Mortimers but this wasn't handled properly. Two stars really based on the fact of inconsistency. Some meals can be pretty good, some can be pretty bad. Really haven't gone in awhile as he last few trips were on the not so good side. The staff is almost always super nice and it has a nice old school comfortable feel about the place. They make pretty good meat and two lunches and will usually be pretty busy at lunch. Mortimer's is special and the food is fantastic. I've never had a less than perfect meal at Mortimer's. My favorite dishes are the gouda stuffed burger, and the oyster's on the half shell. You cannot possibly beat Mortimer's on the price and freshness of their oyster's! I like restaurants which are family owned and operated and Mortimer's is operated very well. The staff are sweet and you are usually seated within seven minutes or less. The decor inside is a bit outdated but that really doesn't matter. I'm only giving this place a one star because the fried pickles were really good. The down fall is that the service is terrible. We were there on a Friday night. We were one of three tables in the restaurant plus a party in the front as you walk in on the right. I was once a service for 7 years. It is not hard to reassure the small tables that the food is taking a while and apologize. We had two entree's. The fried fish and baked potato and the marinated chicken with beans and rice. The food took over a hour to come out. I couldn't imagine how long it would have taken if it was packed. Shortly after I got home I started to vomit. I was up all night. I'm not sure if it was something that wasn't prepared properly or the tarter sauce was bad. I was so hungry that I just ate without hesitating. My fiancé asked me to pick where we wanted to eat. I tried this place on a whim shortly after I had moved to Memphis (according to the wife we had to eat something besides BBQ....whatever). We found our visit to be very disappointing. The one moment which will always stick out to me was when my wife ordered a High Cotton and the beer arrived room temperature-level warm. We politely told the waiter about the warm beer and his excuse was one for the ages, apparently beer is supposed to be warm when it comes from a draft system. I could only shake my head as this was not just a terrible lie but his delivery of it was so earnest. The food was not bad but it wasn't that great either, it was adequate. I love places like this. Places that don't completely focus on hip decor and the focus remains on the food. If it's good, the decor details are nice, but ultimately don't matter. Morton's is that place -- it's comfy. It is kind of out of the way, if you blink you'll miss it -- an unassuming building near a residential area. As someone who has issues with food allergies, I'm always hesitant to try new places, and I was able to get a shrimp salad with dressing on the side with no problem -- bonus. Let me admit. I have passed by this place for years and tonight is the first night I've eaten here. The seafood gumbo was just the perfect texture, not too watery or too thick. The rolls were hot and had just the right amount of melted butter. I have to admit, I was skeptical when the food came out quick. But my chicken tenders were cooked perfectly, could tell right away they bread it themselves, and the loaded baked potato wasn't the best in ever had, but descent. The only reason I am giving this place two stars is because our waitress was sweet and the rolls were amazing. Other than that, I wasn't impressed. We went on Sunday night for crab legs, and they were absolutely horrible. My husband actually didn't eat the last couple legs because they were bad and brown. Oh well. From the yelp reviews this looked like just the place. Pub style food, in an "old wood bar" type atmosphere. On that it delivered. Our service was prompt. We started with the artichoke dip, it came our very quickly and was pretty good. I went with the stuffed flounder and my wife had the snapper. Both were marked as "Mortimer Favorites" Once again the food came out quickly. My flounder was very dry, and the menu claim of "stuffed with crab meat" was just plan false. It was packed with crab cake filler. The fries were crispy though under seasoned. My wives snapper however was very good, the mushroom top was overcooked, but the fish itself was flavorful and juicy. Also, the wine I ordered had a generous pour, but you could tell the bottle had been open for a while. All in all, I dont think we will be back, especially considereing all of the other options in the area. read more

Pretty bad. We had not been to Mortimer's in a couple of years and decided to go back for a Friday night dinner. After reviewing their menu online, we had decided to order the trout amandine described on the website. We arrived around 5:30 and there was no one in the place except at the bar. There appeared to be way more wait staff & employees than customers, so it was surprising that the service was so slow. We ordered drinks, then waited a long time to turn in our food orders. When the waiter came to take our orders, we inquired as to why the trout listed on the online menu wasn't on the menu in the restaurant. He told us that the online menu was an old menu and that "someone needs to update that." We ordered the clam chowder, grouper and salmon. A few minutes later, he came out to tell us they were out of clam chowder. So we chose the French onion soup, instead. The soup came out first. It was definitely canned French onion soup over a slice of loaf bread with some melted cheese on top. Pretty sad and overly salty. But the biggest disappointment were the entrees. The salads were iceberg lettuce with cheddar cheese & croutons. No tomato or other ingredients. Then, the grouper was clearly talapia, not grouper. It appeared to be a piece of frozen fish that had been heated. It was accompanied by frozen French fries. The salmon was greasy and sprinkled with some sort of rub that made it salty. For dessert, we ordered the lemon ice box pie, which was clearly a frozen pie that was bland and tasteless. Mortimer's has basically become a watering hole so we suggest skipping it if you want a good meal. Just come for the booze only. read more

My wife and I went there on a Friday night. I had heard about Mortimer's for years but we had never been. Everything we had was excellent. We were very impressed. Steak was cooked perfectly, Chicken Beauregard was excellent, appetizer was great, bread was great, dessert was wonderful. Went there for Mother's Day with my wife and two Adult children. The restaurant on Summer that we were looking for was not to be found and we had passed Mortimers and read their sign with Mothers Day specials on it. We decided to give it a try. My wife and I had the Prime Rib special and were very disappointed as it was dry, not tasty, and the juice on the plate was poured over it. My Wife commented that the asparagus side was overdone and rather sparse, three stalks. My son had the chicken fingers and my Daughter had the Hamburger which both were better than the Prime Rib that we had. Very disappointing. We will not be back and I would not recommend to anyone!! read more
