Since I've been in the Memphis area I've only eaten here once. I haven't had a good burger in some time and on Fridays they have a burger special on the lunch menu. It was busy but since I ordered it to go it wasn't bad. I got the burger and a baked potato. As you walk in they have all of the condiments out front and there is a Huge Grill, you can see them cook the meat. I felt pretty confident having a burger here because it's a steakhouse and quality of meat is good. This place has a large dining area perfect for groups, although the decor is dated. I feel like I stepped back in time circa 1975-1980 I only got cheese on my burger so I could add my own condiments at home. I have been wanting to try The Butcher Shop Restaurant since I arrived in Memphis, as I've passed it a number of times. The outside looks a bit dated and old‑fashioned, but the inside gives true fine‑dining steakhouse establishment vibes, and I must say their steaks do not disappoint. I highly recommend the 20‑ounce ribeye, and I also highly recommend this place for a night out on the town or for any celebratory occasion. I am so sad that I did not get pictures because I was too busy stuffing my face! The butcher shop is excellent for big groups! We had a group of eight, and this quiet unassuming restaurant was quite affordable. The steak is fantastic! Get the steak! Everyone else enjoyed their food as well. My husband and I decided to give this place a try for our tenth wedding anniversary. The bill for both of us was $268 (they kindly added a 20% tip automatically). We ordered a couple of take-home entrees for our daughter and mom, and on every single piece of meat (stuffed fillet mignon, ribeye, and salmon), it was WELL undercooked. I ordered my filet medium rare. It was beyond rare. Our server was pleasant but running hard, meaning I had to wait 25 minutes for a glass of wine. My meal was $60 -- and I was wholly unimpressed. The women's restroom was littered with trash and the waste bin was nearly overflowing. It's just sad that a restaurant you'd expect superior service and quality from delivered such a disappointing experience. We agreed we will not be going back. Amerigo far surpasses The Butcher Shop. Encourage anyone else thinking of trying this place to consider an alternative before you waste your hard-earned dollars. read more

We had a workshop here in one of the party rooms, and it was really nice! The restaurant is spacious and clean with good lighting. There are several areas for seating, and also a patio area. We stopped by the bar and got lemon drops, and they were well balanced. The presentation came with a prix fixe menu that included salad, appetizers for the table, a main course, and dessert. The shrimp were excellent. They were tender and flavorful without being overpowering. I was expecting a little more from the steak, as it was under seasoned, but the potatoes were really good. The dessert was given to us to go, and the dessert was fine. This is a nice place for a night without the kids, celebrations, and the party rooms have plenty of space. read more

Once again folks, The Butcher Shop Steakhouse doesn't fail. The food was cooked to perfection, the place is nice and cozy, but our favorite server Andy Soto was there for us tonight and he never disappoints. Had a great dinner but likely will never come back because of the management. I was accused of not paying my bill when I did and left the signed copy on the table. Also, was able to show the charge on my bank app. The manager kept saying I wasn't leaving without paying.... I did pay. He said this multiple times in the front gathering area where other customers could hear. He doesn't know how to speak to a customer, let alone a woman. We live very close by to the Butcher Shop, but had never been till last weekend. Honestly, I just had never heard anything about it, and since we aren't big meat eaters, it just avoided our notice. The first thing I noticed upon entry is that it has a pretty classy decor. I can see this being a special occasion restaurant, though they don't allow balloons or singing in the dining room ( a positive in my book!). The service is also something special. The servers are very attentive without being intrusive, and they are dressed nicely in fresh vests and ties. I really did not expect that at all, so was pleasantly surprised. We started our meal with spinach artichoke dip, a solid offering. Our only small disappointment was when the salads were served, they were drowning in dressing. The sauces and dressings are all made in house (and completely delicious), but some restraint needs to be used on the quantities. Our server quickly whisked them away and brought fresh salads with dressing on the side. For entrees, my husband chose the 14 ounce ribeye. It was very generous and he said it was done perfectly. I had the crab stuffed shrimp. I enjoyed it, but would have preferred it broiled rather than fried. I have never liked tartar sauce, but theirs is made in house, and unlike anything I've tried. I know it's odd to comment on tartar sauce, but it's just that good! Gratuity is included in the bill, but they are not sneaky about it the way I feel some places are. This review is only for the Friday burger day lunch special for The Butcher Shop Steakhouse. On Fridays only,this restaurant has a burger lunch special off which they take their steaks from the week and grind the meat and make steak burgers. I have been coming to this lunch special multiple times in the past years. It is always good. Currently the hamburgers/cheeseburgers are $11. They also have grilled salmon and catfish as well as bratwurst. Buns, lettuce, onions, tomatoes, pickles are provided. Condiments are available. The cost also includes a bag of chips. Fries and tater tots are an extra purchase. Drinks are also extra. The burgers are probably around 1/3 lb. and grilled on an opened flame. The meat is juicy and typically cooked to doneness of around medium to medium well. The ambiance is noisy but par for most lunches that have a lot of folks gathered. Plenty of seating areas including an outdoor patio. Service is attentive. read more

Dim lit and quiet, but the place was pretty empty, even for a Sunday evening. Our waiter took forever to make periodic checks and also forgot to bring one of drinks and one of our appetizers. He seemed annoyed to be at work that night. Everyone at my table ordered a steak. My NY strip was supposed to be medium but it was more on the medium well side and it was pretty tough. We held a party for 20 at the Butcher Shop. Overall, it's a great experience, for a private room there's a $150 deposit and the accommodations are nice. The waiter was excellent and very attentive. But ALL of the bar drinks SUCKED! I do mean they were horrible! Stick to wine or beer. The food was hot and came out in a timely manner but the taste was just ok! Mediocre at best. Recently, we read that this Butcher Blocker location was one of the Best Steak Houses in TN. So, we headed there for a date night dinner. We had high expectations of enjoying a great steak dinner. However, we were very upset and left before dining because this restaurant adds a 20% tip to your TOTAL Bill!!! Tipping does not bother me. Consistently, I tip 15% on food and drinks when the Server does an adequate job and 20-25% when they really do a good job. But, I NEVER tip on taxes; especial now that some Memphis restaurants are adding a 15% LTD (liquor by the drink) tax. read more

We were originally having dinner in Southaven for a family birthday dinner, the place couldn't accommodate so, my husband and I called and was told. It was busy and they were no longer accepting reservations but she had 2 openings 6:15 n 7:30. We made it, it was crowded and after the reservations were seated, we got our 6:15 slot. The food was absolutely delicious. My salmon was excellent, very moist. I poured sum melted butter n lemon on top. But thats just how I prefer my salmon, it was seasoned to perfection. They serve artichoke dip with Mexican chips and it's a steakhouse, I was expecting some bread and when we asked to replace chips with bread they got mad. We also open a blind a bit because it was super dark and we got asked to close it. Server was a bit rude and never friendly. read more

Fresh burger Friday was a hit. When you walk in it's set up for you to get your buns and fixings for a freshly cooked steak burger, you seat yourself after. My suggestion would be to find seating then get in the food line, it was super busy at 1120 and they had just opened at 11am lol. My initial drink a French 75 was sent back because it was flat & not good. I then requested a lemon drop martini which was slightly better. Food, we ordered a bone in NY strip med rare, w/a loaded baked potato and a salad. Also a ribeye well done with baked potato & salad. My strip came out medium & it was a nice thick cut of meat, but seemed a little tough. His ribeye looked skimpy, and not appealing to me, but he enjoyed it. About 15yrs ago there was a Butchers shop in Chicago and I thought this place was the same, now that I've tried this maybe it was, but my expectations weren't met here. read more

Mediocre food and rushed service Rushed service is probably my biggest gripe. We had just started on our appetizer when our salads showed up. We were still eating our salads when our entrees showed up. The waitress literally stood there at my elbow holding my steak while I was taking bites from my salad. The steaks looked better than they tasted. My ribeye was tough and chewy like it had not been tenderized enough. My wife's Hawaiian Rib Eye was Hawaiian, I guess, because they put a slice of pineapple on it. It did not taste like it had been marinated at all. Halloween night out. Wow what a steak!!! Warmly and gladly greeted as soon as we walked in the door. So nice to have the staff be happy to see you. Sat out on the side patio. Was a lovely night and the temperature was perfect. A little bit of heat from the outdoor heaters made it just perfect. Andrew was our main server with Stephen pitching in when ever needed. These two guys made it a very enjoyable night out. The wife had the filet and I had my usual... the T-Bone. Both were cooked to perfection and had the Cajun butter added to the top. Wow what a meal!!! Fresh bread, awesome crab cake appetizer and a nice garden salad. Y'all must bring back the Greek salad though. It was truly missed.
