I started this Sunday with a beautiful drive up to Emmaus in the Lehigh Valley. After a near week of rain, today's blue sky and high white clouds were just what the doctor ordered to escape the overcast doldrums. The rolling hills that sprang up on approach made for deep green vistas as from the heights into the vales. Emmaus sat in the bottom of one valley like a ripe strawberry waiting to be picked. Morty's was my destination, as I was again in hot dog addiction mode, and this part of Pennsylvania has a goodly supply of huts, houses, Potts and frankfurter barns for the choosing. I parked in the side lot and walked in to a near empty dining room and a smiling cashier happy for some business. As a first timer, she gave me the nickel tour of the menu. I went with the Chicago Dog and Papa Sarge's Pierogi six pack. Both were very strong representations of their respective genres. The ChiDog was a thicker hottie with topping of yellow mustard, pickle slices, celery salt, onion, sport pepper, tomato and tater, all stuffed into a 6" seeded torpedo roll. I added a long squirt of the ketchup table rocket. It was well spiced and textured and gave my jaw a workout. The potato/cheese pierogi were deep fried to a light crisp, with pleasant mashed potato cheesy stuffing. I found it a better combination than standard frenchies. Morty himself walked by and we had a brief chat about business and his cheffing priorities. He cared about proper provisions and found the best available to satisfy customers. He was sincere to his core. As a representative of fast food in this humble burg, Morty's was better than a bit of alright. Emmaus is in something of a time warp, and deserves all the 5 Star accolades it can grab.

Looks like it may be solid

Posted tonight from Morty's Steaks in Emmaus. A great deal of people told me that the cheesesteak here was formidable and was a contender in the Lehigh Valley. I was excited to see that they carry Cooper Sharp, they use a Liscio's roll, and they source their meat locally. All signs were pointing to a small victory. This steak was ... alright. The liscio roll was unseeded and had a very different flavor from its seeded counterpart. I enjoyed the small dice on the onion. The meat was chopped very fine and was a little flat. There was not enough cheese on this unfortunately. The flavor was still pretty good, I'm not tearing this apart, but to be up there with the bigger hitters in the LV, you have to bring more than this one did in my opinion. The employee who helped me was very nice and the price wasn't bad, but this wouldn't make my top 5 in the LV list personally. Morty's Steaks Didn't Suck, but I'm not in a hurry to get back there.

The first few times we were there, it was great. Probably won't be back because they really cut back on the amount of chicken in their chicken cheesesteak. Used to be full, but the last couple times was like half of what they had been. Really was hoping this place would be consistent?

My hubby and I went to Marty's for lunch... both getting pepper steaks with Wiz. In addition I got pierogis and he got fries. Steaks were very tasty. The meat was tender and well seasoned. Just the right amount of sweet peppers and cheese wiz. The roll was soft but sturdy enough to hold its own against the filling. The pierogi were AMAZING! Probably some of the best pierogi in the area! The fries were a large serving of crispy seasoned steak fries, also very good! Hubby and I will definitely be returning. Do recommend!

Morty's is a relatively new addition to the downtown Emmaus area, it is located right off the triangle. The menu here is simple and small, they have steak sandwiches, hot dogs, and fries. That's it, if your not a fan of those items don't bother to come. The steak sandwich was one of the better ones I have had in the area but not the best. I got the 8 inch and that was more than enough meat to fill me up. The prices were pretty decent, anymore if two people can eat for under $40 I consider that a win. I would say this place is mostly for the takeout crowd, but they do have a small seating area. They even have a small parking lot next to the building. The hours are kind of limited, they are closed Monday and Tuesday. The staff was friendly and nice and the service was quick, we were in and out in just a few minutes. Overall a very good place to stop if you are looking for a steak sandwich in the Emmaus area.

Our steak sandwich was loaded with meat, ready in less than 10 minutes. We have been there numerous times and happy every time.

I was so sad when the Brass Rail closed. Fortunately, Morty's steaks are delicious, and have filled that void.

While the cheesesteak is generous with meat and cheese, it was basically flavorless. There are many other much better options in our area.

My husband loved the cheesesteaks at the Brass Rail, and we hadn't found a place he considered comparable until Morty's.

Brimstone here with another Tidbit in Allentown, PA! The Fearsome Four were back together again…read more.. The Food Hound Elite - Etan Wish, Luscious, Mina Sanwald and me; ole' Brim! Today we visited a tiny little place (literally) who packed powerful flavor in EVERY bite! Willy Joe's has been in business since 1945 when factories overran Allentown and business was thriving. This location was originally owned and operated by William & Josephine (hence the name Willy Joe's), and this spot was, is and always will be a name to be reckoned with! Current owner Rich and his partner bought into the establishment at some point in the eighties and opened up a second location (also in Allentown). Once Josephine was ready to retire, she invited Rich and his wife Holly to take over the spot where it all began. And so we begin... We started off simple with what locals call the Dog Everything... raw onions, mustard and home made chili sauce on a steamed bun. I'll start by saying the hot dog had the allure of a NYC dirty water dog; but without all the concern for your health! The dog was juicy, had a light crisp to the skin, and packed a really nice flavor which worked really well with all the condiments on it. Even without ketchup on it, (if I wanted the full experience from when Josephine was in charge) the flavor was bold and well blended. Now the kicker was that it'll only set you back $1.30 with EVERYTHING!!! Meanwhile, only an extra .24 cents for their special cheese! Nothing crazy, nothing fancy... just a good old fashioned tasty Hot Dog. Note: Mina says that the flavor of the special Chili sauce was enhanced while drinking the Chocolate Milk. WINNING. The next hidden treasure that we sampled was comically called the SOB... Steak On Burger (should have been for Sss' Only for Brim!). The Hounds sucked that bad boy up stat! Unreal, a cheese steak burger with banana peppers, that yummy chili, pickles, onions and their secret Steak Sauce that was BOSS - all nestled on a freshly steamed Kaiser roll! I'm naming this one my personal WIN of the day. Quickly to follow were the Chili Cheese Fries and NOTHING is better than fries that STAY crispy with all the trimmings hot and dripping on top! The cheese is off the hook; a blend of cheese whiz with some other secret cheesy ingredients - Mmm cheese! Did I say cheese? One trending topping at this spot is the delicious specialty steak sauce, this stuff is addictive... once you eat it; you just can NOT get enough! Quite literally, this BOSS of a sauce made our two cheese steaks unbelievably amazing! The Allentown Cheesesteak (I was quickly corrected that this is certainly NOT a Philly Cheesesteak) was bursting with flavor, the extra splash of chili added to the love; but the special sauce tied everything together to truly make this work. Lush claimed his favorite was the Chicken Cheesesteak which he attempted to eat right off the griddle. That sauce yet again rocked the taste buds! There was no special seasoning on the chicken; all the flavor came directly from the sauce which has been homemade here for years. We all agreed that they should bottle that sauce up and give everyone the opportunity to indulge in its awesome-sauce-ness. Lastly, we were treated to the Chili Con Carne (of which Mina grabbed a second container to go); an original recipe created by Rich's mother! Mina opted to choose the chili as her WIN for this location. The chili was smooth, meaty and offered a blend of vegetables & spices - a slight burst of 'hotness' leaves a nice taste while munching and the meat simply melts in your mouth. They let this awesome stuff simmer for a minimum of 4 to 5 hours which really makes a difference... thumbs up! Seriously, if you are looking for some fast food with history and tons of flavor... you'll need to stop by this little gem. Fast and very friendly service, fantastic food and well worth a visit! Lesson to be learned here is to never judge a book by its cover and BIG things come in small packages. This one gets the Food Hounds Seal of Approval!

Also the SOB burger and the cheesesteaks the best one was on Lehigh Street because he had jalapeño cheddar poppers. Those were fantastic. This location didn't have them, but it is a shame that Willie Joe's is no more. It was one of the great hotdog institutions. What a shame. Just like Pete hot dogs in Bethlehem. That was another great hotdog institution with great chili cheese, dogs and chili cheese fries. I grew up eating their hotdog and Willie Joe's and sometimes Yoccos it is a shame all the good eating institutions are just closing down

Unfortunately, there was a strong cold draft at floor level, leaving our feet uncomfortably cold throughout the meal. The hostess was sweet and greeted us with a smile. The food service was unremarkable. Our waiter was not particularly friendly nor personable. The drinks were a weak start. The red sangria was poor. The bourbon cocktail was an odd mix of bourbon, apple cider, and other elements--an awkward, Frankenstein-style whiskey sour that simply didn't work. Worst of all, both drinks were served in thin plastic cups, which immediately cheapened the entire experience. I ordered the falafel sandwich and specifically requested a toasted bun. It arrived not just room temperature, but cold. I sent it back, and it returned burning hot... the bottom soggy... literally too hot to pick up... with no browning or color change, clearly microwaved. Microwaving is not toasting. At that point, the sandwich was inedible. I removed the bun entirely and ate just the falafel, which was dry and largely tasteless. At this point I knew coming back to this restaurant was a mistake. Food timing was another issue. The dishes took roughly 45 minutes to arrive after the drinks, possibly longer. We were all getting annoyed and what started out well when we first walked in turned negative. I wasn't impressed on my first visit years ago... and this second visit confirmed it. Between the poor drinks, cheap plastic cups, ridiculously long wait (with no explanation nor apology), and careless food execution, there's no reason to return.

I was extremely hungry and I haven't had hotdog in a hot minute, so I jumped at the opportunity to have some dogs Food 3/5 the hot dogs were tasty but seemed overly cooked and dehydrated, the slice of cheese they put with the hotdog wasn't even melted so that tells you the hotdogs won't hard enough to cook the cheese and maybe gave me the leftovers? The french fries I got had a plain flavor and half of them were stale. I think if everything was given to me fresh, the score would be a little different even the bacon I had there was so crunchy my teeth felt like they were gonna break. Service 2/5 I was standing by the cashier and he just stared at me and I simply told him " hey my brother, this is my first time eating here. What should I get?" And simply looked at me and said you don't order here you order with her and pointed at the female worker, then she was very plain and not so enthusiastic about taking my order. As soon as I started to feed them the same respect and attitude, I was receiving their behaviors changed, and they seemed a little bit more bubbly and happy... so I don't know what the heck is going on in that place if you don't wanna serve hotdog, maybe you should find another spot to work at.. Ambience 2/5 as soon as you walk in your feet feels like you're walking on greasy floors and the place felt a little muggy, and no fresh air circulating when I dined in and went to find a spot to sit there was crumbs on the table and crumbs on the seat. So they didn't have anyone dedicated to go around the place and make sure everything was clean and tiptop for other customers to come and sit down and enjoy their meal. I had to take the time out to clean the table and seat myself, which isn't a big job for me(cleaning my area I mean) but you would think a place like this would be a little bit more taken care of.. I'm a man about second chances and if I have a craving for hotdog and Yoccos is in the area maybe, I said, maybe I will give them another shot and hopefully this establishment as people more excited about their job and keeps up the place the way any establishment should be maintained..
