If you want excellent pie or cake, I recommend. Although, if you want authentic Austrian food I've had better. There was no seasoning on any of the food besides those canned potatoes on my husband's sausage platter(which those had no color like boiled.) My sauce was broken on my schnitzel it was some bitter tasting pink sauce. Only good thing was the mushrooms and onion in the sauce. Also my server was a child. Expected better attention to the customer service but the town is small so you get what you get. We were just passing through on our way from Michigan City and saw this place. Not impressed. The pretzel was okay though, probably would have saved our money and just had that with a beer, even though I think they're microwaved. read more

Great Austrian food, the schnitzel is ample, plenty of choices. I had the Tuscan while my wife had the Brie. Both were excellent, not too greasy like some places. And the Thursday special of a dollar off a beer and a free large pretzel is perfect. Service was excellent and she recommended the chicken schnitzel with the Brie which was the right choice. Definitely the Gem of New Carlisle. Great atmosphere in a beautiful historical building connected to the sweet shop. Servers are very nice. It's family friendly with a good size menu. It was possibly the best French dip I've ever had. The fries, both regular and sweet are divine, fresh, and more than likely hand cut. My husband loved is tenderloin sandwich, and my mil loved her stuffed sole with spaetzel. We will be back! Bonus points for bringing the kids food out first! read more

We took my son out for his birthday, and he suggested this place. It was in an old building that was nicely restored. The atmosphere in this place is warm and inviting. Our server came right over and took our drink order. When he returned with the drinks, we ordered dinner. I ordered the Alt Wienerschnitzel, my son ordered the Jaegerschnitzel Schnitzel, and my wife ordered the Sausage Platter. Our food took a bit to come out, but when it did it was totally worth the wait. Each of us liked our meal and thought it was good. This was a nice place to go to celebrate a special occasion. I first visited Moser's about 12 years ago. At that time they were in a smaller location a few doors down. Sad to hear that the original owners sold this past year. Part of the charm was the previous owner and his family. Werner was from Austria and would make a point of welcoming all guests. That said, they have the same chef and menu. We started with the meat and cheese board with the olive spread -same great food! Then we had the bacon dumpling soup before our favorite - the schnitzel. We had dinner there with my husband's parents. The food was great. I had the Cordon Blue schnitzel. It was huge and the left overs made for a great lunch. They have a nice assortment of beer. My family enjoyed their beer. Love seeing the wait staff wearing traditional Austrian garb as well. Will definitely go back again read more

What a cute restaurant in downtown New Carlisle, not far from downtown South Bend! A group of us ate lunch here on a weekday and had almost the whole restaurant to ourselves. We shared the giant soft pretzels appetizer, served with grainy mustard and a memorable olive spread/dip. When at an Austrian restaurant, you opt for the traditional food. I ordered Bratwurst with potatoes and sauerkraut, although there are plenty of other options, including more traditional lunch offerings like sandwiches and salads. There's a small coffee shop and bakery adjoining the restaurant, and an event space upstairs for private parties. Downtown New Carlisle is quaint, and Moser's is a great spot to check out if you're in the area. read more

This establishment was a little further down the street 17 years ago when I rented a house in New Carlisle. I loved the food then. It's relocated but the food and service are still excellent. Our first visit last week was incredible. We were traveling from Los Angeles to South Bend for an ND football weekend. This place may be under your radar and is a must eatery if you like Austrian / German style food and beverages. Good food small portions very authentic so if you're looking for Austrian food, don't think it's going to be American Austrian. It's pretty clear cut authentic and a little chocolate shop next-door is awesome. as far as ambience a little too high scale for the location. I think they would do better if they tone it down a little bit with the high polish and served hardy bowls with a little less posh - I'd be happier walking into my grandmothers house, style restaurant, and more likely to stay. The atmosphere is great. The place is tastefully decorated. It's warm and inviting. The menu offers a nice selection of drinks, sandwiches, and schnitzels. The veal was a little tough, the pork was nice and tender. I'd recommend that. We tried the Tuscany schnitzel and the Kaiserschnitzel. Both were great. The Kaiser was a little too salty for my taste. Beware cardiac patients. We finished off with the German Chocolate cake. It was dry. I've grown accustomed to a German Chocolate Cheese cake so this was not my favorite. We also had the bacon dumpling soup. It was nicely seasoned with cloves and I'm guessing nutmeg, maybe cinnamon. It was the first time I've ever had it. What a great lunch experience! Firstly, the historic building itself is incredible! Excellent restoration... the replica tin ceiling is to die for.. for those of us that love old buildings! While you're admiring the ceiling and quaint Austrian decor, please notice the stein collection. It's very impressive! Some of the steins are larger than I've ever seen before. Ohh... the food! I was there for lunch with a couple of friends that had been there before... I went with the veggie on rye. Wow... the roasted vegetables with balsamic dressing was delicious! I ordered the potato salad (German style served warm) and it was very good! I recommend stopping in and trying everything on the menu. Why not?? It's authentic Austrian food with some American choices thrown in the mix. They also have a nice outdoor patio if you prefer alfresco dining. Been here twice. One server on staff, and was friendly and did the best she could as the place filled to eight tables. A bit too many for one server and no one else on staff jumped in to help. They did have a food server. I don't know much about this type of food, but found it Fresh and Delicious. Surprisingly with all the bric a brac around, the restaurant was Very Clean., however the menus were dirty and some wrappers were left on table doily, from other customers. The attached candy/desert store looked delicious, again Very Clean, just felt sorry for the one server and didn't want to trouble her, as she still had a lot of running to do. Revisited Mosers today for lunch. It was very good. They specialize in Austrian/german food and do a great job at it. The menu is heavy on the schnitzel but thats ok- schmitzel is good. I had jaegerschnitzel, with carmelized onion and mushroom, sweet and sour red xabbage and spaetzle ( dumplins/ noodles) and their house beer. My son had a schnitzel sandwich with potato pancakes. Everythig was great, nicely prepared and presented. Mosers doesnt try to be trendy or haute cuisine-- its rustic homemade german/austrian fare. The house beer is a plsner in a narrow schnell-- id recommend it with almost anything they serve. Mosers is a little pricey,but I didnt feel ripped off. Everything was real, and house prepared-- not out of a bag or box so its worth a little extra money. service was a tad slow... i did a quick count and there were 36 diners in the room... with 2 servers a bartender and a food runner... they were a little understaffed. Unfortunately, it wasn't good at all. Greasy and flavorless. They were also out of many dishes. Service was spotty with only two servers available. Great atmosphere but the service couldn't get much worse. Got here at 6:30 and it's currently 8:36. Still no food. They are understaffed and these kids are trying but I think it's the kitchen that is literally getting food out sooooooo slow! We only have one plate each. How hard is that? Back of house needs a lesson in running a kitchen. Having a unique and authentic menu is great but when the service is like this it ruins the whole dining experience. Unacceptable. If you come, then plan to take several hours to eat. I don't know how they make it? I certainly won't come back. It's now 8:47 and still no food. Got our food at 9 pm. A little disappointed to say the least with my entree. I got the "sausage platter". I don't know what say..... won't be back. This dish was over $16. read more

A truly unique experience not only for this area but for the entire Midwest. Chef prepared Austrian/German cuisine that is expertly prepared and presented and tastes fabulous. Schnitzel is their specialty and they have a dozen topping combinations to choose from or you can create your own style. They have a full bar and some amazing draft choices from locals to European beers. Their flagship is Steigl from Austria's Oldest Brewery....it's also my favorite! The beer menu shifts according to seasons and local availability. The staff are courteous and Werner Moser, the owner, is a great host. Expect a little longer wait as everything is chef prepared. Got our appetizer. Waited forever for drink refills while waiting for our lunch. Waiter makes lame ass excuse. After waiting and waiting, finally had to call the manager on our phone who's on duty to ask him to come to our table. Finally had to just leave. If this is how this place is run without the owners being there, it's pretty sad. read more

Ugh, last few times have been a disappointment. Went today and the food was very off. They served 3 of us, had to wait 8 minutes to get the 4th plate. We waited to be polite so of course our food was cold. For whatever reason, the food was just off. Not as good as it has been in the past. Ordered a vodka and soda and asked for a short glass and she gave me the biggest glass they had. She said they don't have smaller glasses. Now, I know that's a lie because I've never been served a glass that big when I've ordered that drink here. Don't understand the blatant lie, but whatever. Not sure what's going on, but probably won't be back anytime soon, which is a huge disappointment because this was our favorite. read more
