We walk in and there's dozens of personal chopsticks hanging around the bar. A patron enters and is greeted by name, then grabs his sticks. For a restaurant to cultivate repeat business is rare, and telltale of the quality of their food and friendliness of staff. A sushi bar where repeat patrons keep a set of chopsticks on hand? Is it good. Yeah, it was very good. The fish was fresh, cut well, and slices large. It's a bit pricey - specialty rolls around $10, sushi dishes around $20. But for good sushi? Easily worth it. And for good, fresh sushi so far from the ocean? I'll be back. read more

My family and I go here often. We love the atmosphere and the people. It is such a cute place ,and the service is wonderful. They have a great selection of food, and even if you are not in the mood for sushi they have other item on their menu that are just as good. They have quite an impressive sake selection as well. We also keep our chopsticks there in the boxes they have on the wall. All in all every experience I have here has been good. They are on the pricey side but that is sushi pretty much anywhere they serve good sushi. read more

This was pretty good, but not the best. They definitely had a lot of options on the menu. The location was convenient. It was very cosy and casual. We started with calamari which was really octopus. It was good, but would be nice to have been told it was octopus. I had a special caterpillar roll and my son got a couple of rolls. We ended the meal with mango tempura. Expensive for the quality of food. The setting (especially the 2nd floor) is nice though, and overlooks downtown Noho.

Food is fresh, delicious, and overpriced. Really skimpy with the chicken in the chicken teriyaki, and no accompanying miso soup or salad. Plus, when we substituted brown rice, the waiter made no mention that it would be for $3.50, so we were just "surprised" when the bill arrived. (The menu did say that there would be an "additional" charge, but usually it's a $0.50 or $1.00 surcharge.) If you order an extra brown rice side, the cost is $3.50. If we had just kept the white rice and ordered an extra brown rice, the final bill would have been exactly the same, except we would have had an extra white rice. So we were shortchanged. In the grand scheme of things, $3.50 is not a big deal, but together with the lack of miso soup, stingy chicken, and the surprise billing, it just alienates customers. We won't be returning. read more

Each time I go to Moshi Moshi the experience, which the first time was excellent, gets a little less exciting. Maybe I was blinded by the thought of having found an excellent sushi place here in the Pioneer Valley. Now after a few visits, it's just not that great. For the prices they charge, I certainly didn't expect to see Sammy unwrapping a few frozen Shumais from a Costco bag, throwing them in the microwave IN A PLASTIC BOWL, and serving them to us. Yep, that's what happened to us last night. We wound up not eating these BPA-laden shumais, and it took the pleasure out of the other food we got, and I just don't feel the same way about Moshi Moshi. read more

Any review (including this one), based on one visit, has its limited value, but here is our take nonetheless. There is little here that stands out over its competition, other than it seems more expensive than the local competitors. Our bill for three adults and one 10 year old was $115.00 (including miso soup for all, one salad and one appetizer plus rolls) without drinks. The food is good and fresh, though not particularly artful or creative in design or presentation. There are some unique special rolls. The waitstaff is excellent and friendly. There is some ambience in the limited downstairs space, and none upstairs unless you are fortunate to sit at a 2 person table by a window. Otherwise, you are next to the upstairs serving kitchen or the restroom door. One thing that left an off taste: the waiter announced that a 20% tip was automatically applied to parties of 4 or more. I could not find that policy online or on the menu. I would have tipped that much anyway, but was put off that I was not given an option. read more

I don't know how this place got all those high ratings. I just had dinner there last night (6/18/14) and it was absolutely hands down the worst meal I have had in a very long time and definitely the worst sushi I have EVER had. We ordered: two clear soups, edamame, shitake mushrooms and a salad for apps, then we ordered two California rolls, 1 order of tuna sushi, 1 order of salmon sushi, 1 crab stick sushi, and another roll. The clear soup smelled like something was rotted and dead in it, the tuna sushi was so fatty, the salmon was lumpy and fatty and the shitake mushrooms didn't come out until we were finished with our meal. We had one bite of our soup and put it on the edge of the table, didn't touch the salmon... and the waitress didn't even ask if everything was okay or ask why we didn't touch half of our food. I would never ever go back there. On top of that the cost of everything was over 70 dollars before tip and no alcohol was ordered. Absolutely horrible. Never go to this place. There are WAY better places to go to in the Pioneer Valley. AWFUL!!! read more

Nice casual, fun japanese restaurant. Good value, fresh ingredients and good variety. Sam, behind the sushi bar is friendly and very helpful. If you don't see something you like or want it prepared a certain way, just ask and they will do their best. After hearing great reviews and being a huge fan of Asian cuisine I had high expectations for Moshi Moshi. My expectations where met and surpassed. As soon as we walked in we where greeted like regulars with a personal and warm welcome. Possibly my favorite part of the meal was the homemade kimchi pancake (it is homemade by the owners mother). I ordered the veggie fried rice and was floored by the nuanced flavor. The service was exceptionally friendly and prompt. Will be coming back regularly and recommend ten times out of ten. read more

My husband and I had a terrific dinner at Moshi Moshi last night! We ordered the shrimp shumai, which were delicate little pillows and the wasabi shumai, which cleared out my sinuses but were tasty. Not for the faint of heart! The stars thought were the volcano roll and the caterpillar roll, named in honor of Eric Carle, author of the kids' book, The Very Hungry Caterpillar. It looks like one, but tastes fantastic, as does the volcano roll. The staff were welcoming and friendly. It wasn't particularly busy, so our food came quickly. It was beautifully presented. What a totally pleasant experience I had. It is a little cozy place (perhaps tiny) and I was greeted warmly upon entering. The waitress was friendly, efficient and available just enough to feel I was being taken care of without having someone in my face all the time. My dishes from the maki to the noodle dish were excellent, fresh and well prepared. Of note was the fact that I mentioned to my waitress that I didn't see a certain dish I wanted and the waitress immediately asked the chef about it and he cheerfully called out to me from the sushi bar, "What would you like?. You want a dish, we can make it for you." They were totally accomodating, the food was great, and service good. For me it is a good value and good time out when spent here. It is a down to earth family owned kind of place that does their food with fresh ingredients and cooks it well. If you are looking for elegance and mediocre food you have many other places to go to. read more

I wanted to like the place. It seems really homey, with pictures of Sam's children. We sat at the sushi bar and Sam incredibly kind and greeted us. On the side of the windows, I saw chopstick holders with names labeled on them. I'm assuming these are for the regular diners. Very cool. If you want the gist of this review, just skip to the last paragraph. The biggest reason why I give this place is a big fat one star is for the Korean hostess and the mediocre food was an insult to injury. Upon entering, a server was sweet and asked where we would like to sit. I paused to look at my companion and the hostess says in what comes off as a rude tone, "Where do you want to sit?" Service from the server was great and she was nice. She got us tea promptly. Then Sam asked for our order and we gave it to him Later the Korean hostess asked us what we ordered. We gave it to her, and it was annoying, because I'm there to have a dining experience, i.e talking to my friend. I'm not there to put my order down three times. Once when the chef asked for it, the second time when she asked what we ordered and the third time when she decided she didn't want to write down what we order and have us fill out the check boxes. I mean, we could have just stuck with checking the box in the beginning but the chef asked for the order. So... straighten out your ordering system! When we were finally given our food and I find that the sushi was eh, but better than other sushi places in noho. Although that's not saying much, my tuna hand roll was despicable. The menu says a regular hand roll was 4.95 and the hostess over charged me a dollar for a crappy hand roll that featured slightly freeze-burned tuna shavings. In addition, we were given an extra roll that we did not order and returned it. The hostess then returned with our check sheet and insisted that we ordered it. We said no, and she kept pointing at a checked box for MY hand roll. I kept saying that was mine and she kept insisting we ordered it. Then my companion pointed out the fact that the box for the roll she insisted we ordered was not checked. She backed down then, and then said something along the lines of "Don't check the box for something you already ordered." EXCUSE ME, YOU'RE THE ONE WHO TOLD ME TO CHECK WHAT WE ORDER. She's an incredibly rude woman who never apologized. Maybe she was having a tough day, I don't know, but I feel bad for the restaurant because Sam and the server seemed great. The hostess was the one who ruined the dining experience. Overall, rude service, mispricing, and overpriced mediocre sushi. Yes, this review is harsh, but people dine out to get decent service, not to get accused of ordering a roll we obviously didn't order. Oh yeah, and it's true what reviews say. This place is probably the best sushi place in noho (out of what? three other competitors?), but that's not saying much. If you're from a city that has great sushi, and you know what good sushi is, don't expect much from here. read more

Moshi Moshi in Japanese stands for Mushy Mushy. We've had a LOT of sushi and this was the worst we've had. This was 2-day old-tasting sushi, dried out and microwaved. Even the wasabi looked old with a dark crusty layer! We should have known that Osaka, the other sushi restaurant in North Hampton, was busy on a Sat night and this place was the reason. the rolls are whatever. not that amazing. i prefer outside rolls and from what ive gotten there they dont seem to have them. they are also a little pricey. the owners are nice and there is this one waitress whos great. fav part about this place is the sake bombs! so fun. this one great lady shows you how to do it and shes hilarious. went there once tho and had a terrible waitress who told me they didnt have sake bombs. i was like um yea you do and then she came and was like oh i guess we do but didnt even say sorry... sit upstairs and look out over hamp. read more

We have been to Moshi Moshi three or four times this year already, and have enjoyed the sushi every time. About half the times we go we are served "complimentary" items "from the chef," like miso soup and seaweed salad- probably part of their regular routine at the restaurant, but definitely a sweet touch. We've only had cut rolls, and each has been really great, including the vegetarian rolls. We especially like ordering spicy tuna rolls and LOVE their salmon skin roll. My husband and I go here whenever we have some extra cash and want to have an amazing meal. The staff is super friendly, especially Sam and Kimi, to the point that they know us by name and make a point to ask how things have been, and actually remember conversations past. The sushi is simply amazing; I have never had a dish here that I was disappointed with. I have some issues with spicy things, and Sam will go out of his way to adapt rolls for me without the spice, and on several occasions has created something just for me when I wanted to try something new. We love going here for a nice relaxed meal that we know we'll love. read more

This place is crazy! !We went to moshi moshi for dinner today. We were interested to try the beef don which is about $15, and then we found out that the beef don is served in a bowl rather than in a hot stone bowl. Then the waiter suggested that they could make bibi bam which is the same thing but served in a hot stone bowl, BUT he NEVER mentioned the price. Then we ordered the bibi bim (which is not listed on the menu). Who can imagine that simple bibi bam cost us $30!!! The most important thing is that the taste is NOT GOOD AT ALL, and it's more than double priced everywhere else around here!!! Like bibi bam in house of teriyaki in Amherst, the taste is way better but the price is way lower than moshi moshi! This is terrible experience! NEVER WANT TO COME BACK AGAIN!!! Btw, they force you to give 20% tips AFTER TAX. They even fill out the tax in the merchant copy for you, which is so awful and leave you no choice! read more

Went to Moshi Moshi for the first time and we quickly received a friendly greeting and were seated upstairs. The dining rooms here are very cozy and comfortable. Our waitress was rather inattentive despite there only being one or two other tables upstairs (there was another server downstairs with one or two tables as well). By the time our food came we still hadn't received our drink orders and canceled them. This wouldn't be a big deal - everyone makes mistakes - but considering that the place was essentially empty and that the food was incredibly expensive, it only made things worse. The extremely high price on the food was the worst part, however. $17 for a plate of chicken or beef teriyaki would be just fine were it a large serving and/or particularly good, but this was neither. The servings were tiny and while good, it nothing to write home about. One could go down the street to Teapot and get 3 times as much food (of the same quality) for 2/3 the price Overall it was a very disappointing experience and not one we intend to repeat. I would have given only one star if not for the cozy atmosphere and friendly chef who greeted us. read more
