This is such a cute bakery! I love the how home-y it feels when you walk in. I came here on a Saturday afternoon & they weren't very busy with two other customers sitting outside. They have indoor & outdoor seating but I opted for sitting inside. Ordered 2 cookies - snickerdoodle & angel. The girl behind the counter sold me on the angel cookie, I asked what it was & she said that it was one of their best sellers and it literally melts in your mouth. My review is simply on the service. Initially thought cute coffee shop. I was recommended to stop by on my way home from work. I walked in, not very welcoming. I looked at the goods and realized they were cash only, that's annoying. Anyways, ordered a few and when I went to pay I asked for coffee. The shorter one looks at the taller one and said they didn't have anymore. Mind you there is still an hour to close and I saw a guy walk out with coffee. I was surprised to read all of the bad reviews. It almost seems like the owners made someone mad... and that person had all their friends and family post bad reviews. The shop is clean and decorated in a fresh black and white motif, slightly farmhouse. The girls working were friendly enough and patient. Chairs aren't comfortable for a long sit and the barstools looked tiny! I was afraid to sit in one. Food: the berry danish was by far the best pastry we tried. Cinnamon roll and was also delicious. Butterhorn was a little dry. We bought a loaf of bread to take home for dinner and it was enjoyed with fresh pasta sauce spaghetti! Coffee was decent but the decaf tasted burnt. It gave off an odd smoky after taste. I would definitely go back! The turnovers looked yummy too and I would try them next! Bonus: during the summer the Farmer's Market is going on every Saturday! First visit here today. And as always I hope to enjoy a local establishment and the number of patrons in the shop was most encouraging. However my experience was middle of the road at best. I purchased half a dozen cookies which were very reasonably priced and they are an honest cookie. Just not what I had hoped for. I would offer one word of advice to the staff, when a customer asks you to "tell me about the Spanish Raisin cookie " concerning a product who should probably believe that they are new to your shop or have never tried that item and offer an explanation rather than just staring back at them. We have visited (and loved) Moss Rose Bakery for years. My friend and I are older women and we go to Moss Rose, have lunch (usually their exceptionally good tuna sandwich, chips, a cookie and iced tea. Then we purchase several boxes of meat and spinach ravioli and sauce. We've never been disappointed. Until today. The service was very underwhelming. We inquired about the raviolis only to be told they didn't have any, that more were expected on Sunday (this was a Thursday), but they were closed until Tuesday. We were told that we should have called ahead and ordered the ravioli. First time in our many years of patronage had been told that. We ordered our lunches: tuna sandwich, chips a drink and a cookie. Both of our orders were incorrect. My friend's sandwich had the wrong cheese (cheddar not swiss). She used a walker and the staff just thrust a cup at her and expected her to navigate behind the counter to get her fountain drink. Really? It would have killed them to get her drink for her? My lunch was missing the chips and the cookie. Moss Rose, you have the best ravioli to be found, but the abysmal attention to detail, lack of adequate stocking, and uncaring staff is unacceptable. I recently organized an informal meet up with a group of about nine friends. Moss Rose Bakery was an easy choice; delicious baked goods, salads, sandwiches and beverages. Everyone was happy with their choices. Haylen did a fantastic job managing our orders and delivering our food and drinks. She and the owner stopped by our table to make sure we were set. I have not been to Moss Rose in a while so when I was in town I stopped by to pick up lunch . There is new owners. I noticed right away how organized everything was and there is cute decorations put up , a new register. It's like a tablet. MR is still cash only. I love how they are packaging the raviolis now. They are no longer in plastic bags but instead a nice case . I talked to new owner briefly and she was very friendly!! She told me that Bakery is coming along but there is still a long road to go. I'm excited to see what they do to the place. So I ordered a sticky bun for my grandma & a turkey sandwich for myself. Sandwich came with a side ( spaghetti salad, potato salad, or macaroni salad) , a cookie , and a drink . Cost me about $17 . My grandma thought the sticky bun was just ok she would not want it again. She only ate a quarter of it .My sandwich was small in size & tasted just ok . It came on a white sandwich roll that was nothing special. Sandwich was very plain tasting , only thing I could taste was the pepper jack cheese. And I was not a fan of the turkey they used . The macaroni salad was horrible I threw away. It tasted way too sweet!! I had a chocolate chip cookie that was good. I was disappointed in lunch today. I don't know when & if I'll be back. read more

Decent bakery goods but the one flaw is that they are made thick. This tends to dry out the pastries, especially if you take them home. The staff is not the most inviting. It's really clean and has great seating. Nicely decorated. Another turnoff is that they only accept cash and checks. That gives me reason to believe something is going on because all small stores and restaurants have a ton of payment options. Huge turnoff. read more

I won't go back where it's obvious I'm not welcome. I walked into Moss Rose, having come here since I was a little girl, this past Saturday with my three kids. It was 10 minutes until closing, but we were just looking to grab some pastries and head home. The girl who helped us was incredibly rude. She kept giving me the dirtiest looks, as if I offended her by asking for a vanilla cupcake. It was honestly bizarre how rude this young female was. I went to pay, and she abruptly said, "NO CARD! ONLY CASH!" I said, "Wow, I'd think you guys would accept ATM!" In which, she rolled her eyes. Not only that, she continued to awkwardly stare at me and my kids with the most judgmental rude look! I purchased a chicken pot pie and called later to ask what the baking instructions were for the pie from frozen or from room temperature. She said to bake it at 375 for ten minutes from frozen and check it from there. She seriously did not know what she was talking about. They have an old timey cash register. I really wanted to love this bakery. The doughnuts I really wanted to try were less than impressive. My kids didn't like it, it was hard to believe so I tried it too and it was sad. We've tried the sticky buns, cookies and rolls. The rolls were good but I don't see another reason to go back. The fact that they insist on cash or check only is still a mystery to me. This place has made quite the turnaround from my last review. In my family we enjoy everything from the hot cross buns to the seasonal sugar cookies. I personally loved the pecan rolls. I have heard so much about this place and admit that I am ashamed that I have lived in Oakdale my entire life and this is my first time stopping in here. I showed up on a Monday about 10:30am. They bakery is literally full of baked goods and they are of epic proportions. I was looking for lunch and heard they do incredible sandwiches. I came in just for that. I ordered the "Deli" sandwich. It came on a wheat roll made right here at the bakery. Apparently all their bread is made here. The "Deli" sandwich has ham, turkey, and salami with choice of two different types of cheese and all the toppings. It came with a choice of side salad. I chose potato salad. Apparently all of their side salads are also made here. The sandwich came out looking really good. There was certainly no shortage of meat and produce. It tasted every bit as good as it looked. The potato salad was incredible too and I'm kind of a potato salad snob. The cookie was an excellent ending to an amazing lunch. It was cozy and quiet here today. I enjoyed the very rustic feel of the Moss Rose Bakery and it complimented the food perfectly. There are even a few tables out front to eat at if the weather is right. The staff were all very kind, welcoming, and helpful. Falisa, not to be confused with Falisha, was the service champion that made my day. She really helped me navigate a sandwich menu ripe with tons of great choices. I did not regret taking her advice at all. My total came out to just under $15.00. I was a bit surprised to find out they only take cash but when you see there old fashioned 1902 wind up cash register it will all make sense. Also, parking is limited in front of the deli so plan to park right across the street. There's a large parking lot there. I highly recommend Moss Rose Bakery as a must visit if you are in Oakdale even just briefly. You will be glad you did. I know I will be back for sure. read more

This bakery has the BEST garlic bread you'll ever eat!! But sells out quickly!!! It's also my FAVORITE place to get the best turkey sandwich EVER!!! (Think hand carved fresh Turkey) Great sugar cookies too that my kids LOVE! You can't get hung up on the service. Because it SUCKS!! BUT.... don't take it personal. Exaggerated reviews. I don't mean to be negative but the place isn't all it's cracked up to be in some of the reviews. The place has a dated dry look. Upon entering there are economical looking tables set up. Then there are some shelves set up that serve as some sort of barrier to the service counter. The shelves look empty. There are some frozen foods off to the sides. Service is good and friendly. The place gets filled with people, but not too overly crowded. A line naturally forms to the front. There isn't much else. You could see the pastries in the display. The counter looks like something from a pawn shop. This isn't what I expected when I came in. I got maple bars and cookies. The chocolate chip cookie was not good. The coconut chocolate chip cookie was decent but very oily. I wouldn't come back here again. You could get better pastry at other places even the supermarket. read more

I love this bakery! But, it is so much more than a bakery. It's one of my favorite places for lunch. The turkey sandwich with a side of potato salad is my favorite. It's real turkey, not the deli lunch meat so many sandwich places use. Plus, a cookie comes with your lunch. My favorite is the peanut butter, but the chocolate chip and snickerdoodle are just as yummy. The cherry pie and pastries are wonderful. The owner, MaryAnn is community minded and has donated food to our seniors, which is just one more reason to love this place The staff are adhering to strict COVID protocols, as well.
