I ordered a carnitas combo plate and a chicken enchilada/chicken taco combo plate. Oh my! I get home ready to enjoy my meal along with my sweetheart. The carnitas was so overcooked, it was crunchy like potato chips! When is carnitas served hard? Really?? My guys chicken enchilada had LARGE CHUNKS of chicken inside the enchilada. Really? What happened to shredded chicken? It was disgusting, as he almost choked on the large chunks of chicken . Clearly the chef didn't care that they had the gall to serve this crap. I wrapped everything up, drove back to the restaurant. I opened the containers and ask the cashier " would you eat this? Why would you even serve this"? She was quiet. I said look at this crunchy carnitas! It is terrible. I proceeded to tell her my guy practically choked on the enchilada. I wanted a total refund. I ended it with you all ought to be ashamed of yourself selling some crap like this. I tell you- you try and patronize local businesses right? Then they serve you food that not even a dog would eat. We picked up food to go. I ordered 2 taquitos a la carte-I enjoyed them, they make them fresh to order. The perfect combination of crunch and amount of chicken. We also ordered guac, salsa, and chips. We were not thrilled with the guac. It's pretty boring and is thin and has a lot of onions-they're sautéed I think not diced raw. I had a craving today for menudo but it's only Friday. So I moseyed' on down to Motas on Lincoln and ordered one of the specials of the day: caldo de res. The order took about 10 minutes to fulfill and was nicely packaged. And all the condiments were there; tortillas, chopped cebolla, cilantro, lemons and two small containers of salsa verde, salsa roja and rice. The broth, meat and veggies were excellent! So so good! The rice and beans were very tasty. The rice was light as a feather and the beans were just the right texture and really nicely spiced. Both weren't just hot-they were full of spices. Chips and two types of salsa: THEY were hot Chile Relleno was beautifully cheesy and the Enchilada was perfect. There was a small taco on the combo plate and it's a great idea-just the right size to go with the other two entrees. I could drink a gallon of the iced tea-mango and black tea, perfectly balanced. Sometimes the mango can make the tea taste flowery, but there wasn't no hint of it. Just citrus and really tasty black tea. Prices average for sit down Mexican around here. This is my go to place for Posole!!! The large Bowls are worth every penny and loaded with meat!! Cool atmosphere and fast service making this one of those places you have no problem coming back too!!! They do have a kids menu for those that have kids that always want burger, fries. My wife and I (along with our 2 children) have eaten at Mota's for years now but last night I genuinely had the best lengua burrito I ever had north or south of the boarder. My wife went in and enquired about the people at the bar and the worker responded about getting their liquor license soon. Love this family owned business. Been coming here for over 20 years. My Saturday morning tradition is to order the machaca plate with the homemade corn tortillas. I arrange the machaca & rice in the homemade tortillas add the house salsa and my mouth has an instant party. The salsa is authentic and service is fast & friendly. There is always a plethora of cultures enjoying the great food at Mota's especially Saturday mornings. Lived in Pasadena for 12 years and Motas has the best pozole in Altadena/Pasadena. I now live in Burbank but still make the drive when I'm in the mood for pozole. They serve it daily unlike a lot of restaurants that only serve pozole on select days like the weekend. Generous serving and can't beat the price. Tostadas that come with it are fresh made and not out of a bag. They give you a very flavorful spicy chili powder on the side so you can control the amount of heat you like.
