Family fiesta featuring chicken enchiladas and veggie crispy taco

Thought I'd come back for some Gringos food. This time we tried the veggie fajita tostada and the poblano soup. That soup was super delicious and the tostada was loaded with grilled vegetables. Always great experience at Gringos Locos.

We have been going to Los Gringos for a long time. It's a great place to meet friends for dinner because the food is delicious, the service is excellent and Omar's margaritas are the best. They have Margarita Mondays where Margaritas are half off and Taco Tuesdays. You can join Gringo Rewards to earn free food & promotional deals. They also recognize customer birthdays. My husband went there on his recent birthday and the Celebration made him feel so special. Omar, the bartender, and our waiter sang happy birthday to him. Thank you Los Gringos.

Complimentary hot chips & salsa!!! Yesh plz!! It was my first time here so it was a lovely surprise. The portion was great. They even asked if we wanted refills. Yay!! Yumm lol Our waiter was great. He seemed to be the nicest one there lol he greeted and looked happy to be there. A smile can be dangerous...it can brighten up someone's day or change the vibe of the atmosphere. His smile made us felt welcomed. We ordered the famous guac. For $15.99 with a show, it should be worth it. However, the flavor didn't hit. Maybe the avocado was the problem. I dunno...the staff who made the guac let us try the guac to see if we wanted any adjustments. That was nice. We asked for more lime and a bit more tomatoes. However, it only helped a bit. We ended having left overs and didn't Togo it. As for the mains, we ordered the enchiladas, chile verde, and steak fajitas. I enjoyed my chile verde. The chicken was so tender and flavorful. The green sauce had a good amount of sour to it. The rice was yummy as well. I didn't like the cheese beans much. It had a smell that I m not used to. I had it at other restaurants before and enjoyed it very much. My mom got the steak fajitas. It came with the rice, beans and etc. My nephew and I thought the steaks tasted pretty good. For some reasons, my mom didn't enjoy it as much. My nephew got the enchiladas. He thought it would be the ones with the red sauces on top. He said it was a bit dry, but he was still able to finish it. That was a good sign. It wasn't bad. One minor problem...I only ordered a tea for my mom, but our waiter brought out 2 and charged us for 2. He prob assumed that we both wanted teas or misheard me. It got pretty busy so our server was a bit slow. We had to wait a while for boxes and for the bill. Kudos for our waiter to remember about my $20 coupon. He included the discounts on the bill. We didn't have to go back and forth with the bill. Thanks a bunch!! Overall, we had a great dinner. I don't mind returning. Parking avail Nice restaurant Portions were big RR avail

I've been coming to Los Gringos Locos since they were in a smaller spot across the street. It's one of my favorite places for Mexican Food. (See my previous review.) I'm updating my review to rave about how fantastic Ignacio is. My uncle and I came here for dinner and we were fortunate to have Ignacio as our server. He was polite, friendly, and attentive. I noticed the menu has been paired down and mentioned that I was sad they no longer had Shrimp Diablo. He told me they can still make the classics upon request (Arroz Con Pollo, Garlic Shrimp...). Uncle ordered the Chile Verde. I also got a skinny margarita to go with my Shrimp Diablo. (Their margaritas are made from scratch.) Ignacio brought us warm chips & salsa to start. The shrimp came with rice, beans, & house made flour tortillas. The tortillas were soft & warm, the beans were creamy & tasty, and the rice had a nice flavor. The shrimp was fantastic! I loved the spicy sauce. Uncle loved the Chile Verde. Both portions were generous. We couldn't finish. *Vegetarian, Vegan, & Gluten free options available.

A la carte Tamale from - Los Gringos Locos - August 2025

I dined here for the second time about a month ago and had a very similar experience to my first visit. Los Gringos Locos is a convenient spot in La Canada/Flintridge, especially after a long hike. After finishing nearby Strawberry Peak, a group of about ten of us came here for a late lunch/early dinner and it worked perfectly for our needs. Our server, Ignacio, handled our large group with relative ease. He was attentive, friendly, and efficient which of course is no small feat when juggling multiple orders of draft beers, margaritas, sodas, and waters. Service here has consistently been a highlight. But, when it came time to order food, I was a bit surprised by the pricing. A simple bean and rice burrito runs $14.99, grilled flautas are $19.99, and a la carte tacos and tamales are $6.99 each. Even a side of sour cream is $2.29. While the food itself is solid - classic Mexican staples, satisfying but nothing particularly elevated - the cost feels a bit steep for what you get. Even so, the convenience of the location, the consistently good service, and the ease of parking still makes Los Gringos Locos a reliable choice, especially with a group. It's not a spot I'd call a bargain, but it's one I'm sure we will return to in the future.

I still Los Gringos (yes, that's how I'm starting every sentence now, apparently). This place checks all the boxes: family-run charm, service that makes you feel like a regular and food that laughs in the face of boring combo plates. The flautas with barbacoa, tableside guacamole, the margaritas - all are great. But let's talk about that mural. I don't know who commissioned it, what it means, or why it exists, but I can't stop staring at it. Random? Absolutely - absolutely brilliant. Of course I'm coming back - the food is great plus that mural...

Really like the food, the drinks, and the friendly staff, but not necessarily in that order. And don't forget the guacamole.

    How much for margaritas?

I think my skinny margarita was $8

    Closing the end of March?

    I hope not!

Do they still do to go margaritas?

    Yes!!

    Is there a happy hour?

Quite a few bar flies in the afternoon but I am unaware of any special promotions for food or drink during traditional happy hours. They routinely have promotional cocktails typically for one month. You could always give them a call and reply here…

    Do they take reservations?

Thanks for asking! We do not take reservations. Tables turn quickly and so generally wait times never exceed 30 minutes or so. (of course on extremely busy nights they may)…

Do we need to bring vaccine cards?

    NO!

We had been to this small quaint and beautiful little restaurant in Montrose before and wanted to try it again. We loved their little Spanish style courtyard, the tapas, paellas, and the setting felt so good for little date night after being away for so long. Unfortunately things did not go as planned. We made reservations for 7:15pm and were hardly even greeted by the hostess that seemed she'd rather be elsewhere then to welcome us to Casa Cordoba. Problem was though even after setting the reservation time and arriving exactly at 7:15pm we weren't seated for 15min even though we saw our table being cleaned and set and just sit there unoccupied for over 15min. So we waited. When we finally sat down...our server didn't come by for another 10-15min. But we were patient and we waited. Alvin finally came -- brought us water and opened the wine we brought. A special one for this type of occasion (corkage fee was $30). We ordered the paella with squid ink and seafood since it takes up to 45min to prepare and sat down to enjoy the wine and take in the setting. That night they had live music -- a guy on an acoustic guitar playing some cool songs, from Maroon 5 to Backstreet Boys on a 12 string...at least it was live. It was pleasant. The server didn't attend to us much and just had an air about him. Idk -- they may have been super busy but wasn't sure. Finally the paella came. It was...good. Not plentifully. 7-8mussels, a quarter of an octopus tentacles, and a couple of calamari. If you're thinking that much it and rice then you're right. It was mainly rice. No vegetables accompanying it but that's the dish. That was $57 for the small version. I've made paella before. It takes time and it's a production -- but at least at home I can make one for half that price for 8 people. Maybe that's why we don't go out so often bc it ends sometimes like this. We expect a nice meal, a welcoming host or hostess, a server who enjoys the food and atmosphere and makes us feel at home, and food that we could never prepare at home. It's suppose to be an experience that you are happy to pay for. This wasn't. We were disappointed and just felt like wanting to leave. The last straw was when I signed the check on a toast machine and asked for the printed copy. The server, Alvin just left the toast machine with us and left -- attending to others and leaving us with this machine. All I wanted at the end was a thank you for dining with us and the printed copy. We had to flag another server for that copy. He eventually came, with disdain written all over and just handed me the copy, as if I had taken his time to get my the receipt which I asked. That pretty much did it. I asked to speak with the manager and was told--"oh sure. I can get him--he's the chef, give me a minute." I was floored!! No wonder!!! The chef. The back of house manager is also the front of house manager!! That says a lot. You're front of house and your guests are not being taken care of? What kind of restaurant is this? With these prices? Regardless that was it. We left -- had some great ice cream and spoke about the whole experience all the way back home. Great date night eh? Not returning.

Apparently, my friend and other mutual colleagues/friends still kept in touch with each other on a regular basis (I wasn't good about that) and met here fairly often on Mondays. My schedule was always difficult, but on this fateful date, I was available and geeked to hang out with people I haven't seen in over a decade easily. Having served Montrose since 2002, they have since become a pillar of the community with their family recipes and fresh homemade cuisine. I was surprised I'd never heard of this place since I grew up in the area and still relatively frequented it. Would my first time at the sun be my last, or would the family feel (and happy hour!) bring me back!? PURCHASE(S) Chips & Salsa (COMP): Both homemade, the chips were crispy and warm while the salsas were spicy and warm - arriba! Blended Mango Margarita Blended ($7.00 HH): Mango flavor throughout with enough tequila, this was a nice way to start my imbibing on this hot day! Asada Street Tacos 2pc ($5.00 HH): Marinated tender beef with diced white onion, this was simplicity at its best! Carnitas Street Tacos 2pc ($5.00 HH): Same as the asada tacos but chicken! Strawberry Margarita On The Rocks ($7.00 HH): Fruity and sweet with just enough tequila but more ice than I liked. Bean & Cheese Nachos ($5.00 HH): Hot beans and melty cheese, this was very basic but served its purpose. Peach Margarita On The Rocks ($7.00 HH): Refreshing but same as the strawberry version. Cheese Quesadilla + Chicken ($5.00 + $1.00 HH): Another dish that helped to absorb the alcohol with a decent amount of chicken. Bohemia Pilsner Beer 4.7% ABV 12floz Bottle ($5.00 HH): Bright amber color, malty aroma, light body, malty sweet warm watery flavor, crisp finish, and light malty sweet watery aftertaste. A slightly elevated Mexican cerveza - salud! Pacifico Clara Lager Beer 4.5% ABV 12floz Bottle ($5.00 HH): Bright amber color, malty salty aroma, light body, malty warm watery flavor, clean finish, and light malty watery aftertaste. An easy-breezy beer! SERVICE Warmly greeted by a young gentleman who ended up also being our server. I was the first to arrive, and when I mentioned my friends' names, he took me to their standard booth, gave me a menu, a glass of water, and complimentary chips and salsa. He returned moments later, took my first of many orders, and as our ever-growing party kept showing up, he was on us with such ease while he kept his head on a swivel as orders came from all directions. He was the bomb - muchas gracias! PARKING (FREE): They shared parking within a small strip mall that featured a handful of other businesses such a laundromat, a liquor store, and more. Otherwise, there were many spots along the main drag of Honolulu Ave. - 'nuff said. ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE A casual clean somewhat packed floor plan with two dining areas (the main front and the side) filled with a mix of booths and partitioned tables, I didn't notice an actual bar, and minimal cultural decorations added some splash along with some 2026 World Cup fever. Plenty of natural lighting entered through the front doors and windows while an assortment of electric ceiling lights would've covered the rest as it got darker. There were several low-volume TVs throughout while I couldn't recall any background music. ATTIRE Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. OVERALL I had a fun time at El Sol Family Restaurant mainly because I caught up with so many people I haven't seen in so many years and to be introduced to a new business to me with a very good happy hour. I hoped to join them for more happy hours and actually try their full menu. The food was yummy, the prices very affordable, the menu was rather sizable, and the service was awesome. Plus, I preferred to support small mom & pop businesses whenever possible. I found complete value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $60.00 BEFORE any discounts, points usage, and/or tip).
