First time here - always skeptical of Motel 6 Hotels. This one's clean! And the room is cozy and spacious during snowfall. And the bathroom is modern! As in solely a standup shower. Smart - thought I broke a hanger but is set up to come out when pulled too hard on it. Anyway, Rika greeted us. We have had a LONG drive and he's a breath of fresh air. very close to town that is the good thing about the place, other than that very disappointed young man at the window was not very friendly and once we got in the room, I realized although the bed was made it wasn't clean. The extra blankets were filthy. They had long dark hairs all over the blankets. I called for early check in, as I know some Motel 6 locations will allow early check in for an additional $20. The gentleman who answered the front desk in Big Bear told me $20 would allow me to check in at 3pm, I then clarified that an early check would be before the regular 3pm, so I was told 2pm was the earliest I could check in, that's pretty excessive for one hour earlier. They clearly have no set policy and will charge you random prices. read more

For the rate they're charging, I expected a housekeeper with a mop and vacuum. At minimum, a courtesy wipe down. Instead, it looks like they're waiting for a team of forensic experts with UV lights and a search warrant. I didn't know whether to unpack my suitcase or call a priest for an exorcism. The real star of the show you ask? The shower. It's so small that I had to enter it sideways like a piece of bread in a toaster. The shower curtain....it doesn't just hang there, it lurks! The moment the water starts, that curtain begins to drift toward you like a ghost seeking revenge. The shower curtain is so suspiciously slimy and moldy. There should be a law if it brushes against your leg, you legally have to be quarantined for 14 days. A bottle of bleach hasn't been introduced to this premises since the series finale of Friends. DO NOT STAY HERE UNLESS YOU WANT ANTS IN EVERYTHING YOU BRING I booked a stay for 3 nights, it was relatively cheap but I suppose you get what you pay for. The first couple nights I wiped everything down because it was dirty and not clean at all, whatever it's not like I didn't expect that. I didn't even mind much when I found a couple ants running around the room the first two nights and I consider myself a clean person so taking care of it all by taping down where they were coming in from wasn't too bad. However when I couldn't get my outlet to work the third night I found a ton of ants running around under/in the bed and on my nightstand from the outlet in the wall. When I went to the front desk he offered us another room but said that was "just how it was" and more just brushed it off. Book an airbnb instead, an extra 30$ for an ant-less stay is worth it. If I could give negative stars I would. We have been going to Big Bear every year for the last 15 years. I will never stay here again. I will never recommend anyone staying here again. The check in point was just great. The woman at the front desk was very nice. However, when I requested a floor level room due to having two small children she made it out to be a big deal. We were there for multiple days and the hotel was never full. The hotel room is very small. One of the beds butt up against one of the beds. The faucet in the bathroom ran black when first turned on. It did run clear and never ran black again. The room wasn't dirty, but was extremely dusty. Like.... Ran my finger on the shower and there was dust on my finger. The main issue was the electricity was out. ALL DAY. my husband was skiing and I was going to stay in the room with my two small children. When I asked if there was a plan from the front desk she had no answers for me. My son was on a nebulizer so I had to go into the village and find somewhere that could let me use there electricity. Which was really humbling. After walking around in the cold with my kids all day we went back at 3 pm. Electricity was STILL OUT. It wasn't out anywhere else in town. We went to our room to have a nap because we were going to dinner. Our fridge was completely warm. So the breast milk I was storing got warm and no good. After dinner we got back and electricity was back on. After checking out I contacted motel 8 customer service and they said because this was a franchises hotel they couldn't help me or take my complaint. I contacted the hotel and have yet to hear back from anyone DO NOT STAY HERE. read more

You pay 200+ a night and they don't even include towels in that price.They will also charge you if there is mud in your room, which is quite hard to not have mud in the room when there isn't any towels to clean the mud up with. read more

My daughter was a carsick from the drive up so I asked the lady if it was possible to check in to my room early (about 90 mins). There were plenty of empty rooms as it was off season and a weekday. She said if I paid her $40 cash only she would let me check in early or I'd have to wait. Sad to say I had to give it as my daughter was so sick. She put it it straight into her pocket. Must be a normal thing with the employees as she was very comfortable requesting the $40 and pocketing the money. Never had this happen at another Motel 6. Won't be staying at this one again. My expectations were not high for staying at a Motel 6, however there seemed to be many good reviews and it was the cheapest ($270 for Motel 6!!) option for a one night stay in big bear. This was the most disgusting room I have ever walked into. I immediately did not want to touch anything but for the sake of my child wanting to stay and play in the snow I sucked it up. We ended up checking in early paid $20 cash... and dropped our stuff off and went sledding. Came back to the room quickly changed and went to eat dinner and go see a movie at the village theatre. Came back and my child was tired so she went to get into bed and there were hairs in the bed. Not like, one as an accident from the maids but like multiple like nobody had ever changed the sheets. We looked at the other bed, same nasty dirt sheets. The toilet didn't flush and we were so grossed out. To top it off as I was telling my crying child that we couldn't stay because the beds were gross and that's how we could get bed bugs and a spider came out and started crawling on the bed. Perfect timing because then my daughter was like ok let's go! Good thing we only live 2 hours away, because we left around 8:30pm. My husband went to tell the lady we were leaving because the room was disgusting and she just said she couldn't check us out until tomorrow. I would not recommend this place at all. It was a fantastic room for the price! Very clean, fresh smelling, quiet, the bathroom looked new and remodeled. Fresh towels, linens, TV worked. The only drawbacks were a slow and dropping internet wifi connection so streaming a movie or doing any work would be impossible; and lastly, it had a great shower but no bathtub. So I give it a 4/5. If you're looking for a nice place to sleep, though, I would give it a 5 plus!! read more

Based off of sheer customer service from Mary I am writing this review. My husband is in a band scheduled to play today so we booked our room online in advance. Unfortunately we are under a state of emergency as a wildfire burns out of control. That being said the gig was called off but not until this morning. Friendly employees, clean, fair for the price and what you'd expect from motel 6. The only downside (which ended up being a big one for me) was that there was no blanket and the night was a cold 40 degrees. There was just one sheet and one hard thing decorative cover thing.. but no blanket at all (or anything even resembling one). Just one sheet to cover you. It made for a bad nights sleep unfortunately:( which is all i really needed from this stay . Everything else was fine . Would still go back if I'm staying in big bear , but would know to bring my own blanket. read more

One of the WORST rooms and experiences I've ever had and to be quite honest, I've stayed in some pretty sketchy motels back in my early 20's. The soonest we could check in was 2pm or they charge $40 for early check in so we checked in at 2pm and quickly unloaded our luggage so we could go back out and enjoy some snow play & tubing nearby while we still had daylight. When we came back later in the evening, we started to realize how bad our room actually was. (We stayed in room 104 for reference). Within a couple minutes, we found out one of the main lamps on the wall had a broken lamp shade which cut my nephews hand when trying to turn on the lamp. We didn't know the lampshade was broken since the shade had been turned around so the jagged edges were facing the wall to hide it. The lampshade wasn't soft, it was more like a hard fiberglass material which is how it cut my nephews hand. The room & bathroom were dirty like they never sweep/mop as there was dirt/sand material & dead bugs on the floors. The worst part of the room was an extremely foul smell that was sour or like an ammonia type smell that could best be described as cat spray/urine all over the room. The smell alone was sickening, but after the incident where my nephew cut his hand on the lamp shade my sister went to talk to the clerk at the front desk to see if we could switch rooms since the lamp shade wasn't safe and the smell was just too overwhelming. At that point we were told "NO" and that they have a policy where you have 15 mins to inspect your room and make changes yet we were never told about this policy otherwise we would have inspected the room and requested a change when we first got there. The motel wasn't packed or anywhere near full capacity, so I don't see what the issue would be to change rooms since I would think you'd want your guests to be safe and have a fairly decent stay, but apparently not at this motel 6. Just a fair warning - STAY AWAY from Rm#104 - 0/10 experience. I would NEVER stay here again or recommend this place to my worst enemy (if I had enemies). Also wanted to note, the photos they have online here are a complete lie! The rooms do NOT look as decent as they do in the photos here. Pay a little extra and stay anywhere else. read more

Yes it was a Motel 6 so expectations should be lower. But there were multiple issues with the room. There was a hole in the bathroom door, yellow splatter stains in the ceiling and walls, multiple and I mean multiple (10+) hairs in the sheets of both beds, the amount of air freshener used in the hotel room was atrocious, not sure why they needed to use that much huh air freshener but I'm assuming it was to mask the uncleanliness. The walls were paper then so we heard a sick man coughing for hours on end next door. There was what sounded like a horse, or maybe a wild toddler upstairs jumping and running around until 11 at night. This Motel 6 should be junked. It was right across the street from the Oktoberfest so I wanted it just for a few hours of sleep after a night of frolick. Didn't want to drive down the mountain late night. It was worse than a room in "transition" house. I slept in my clothes and washed everything before bringing it into the house (just in case). It was so bad that sleeping in the car would have been OK and not have tp pay a ridiculous amount because of Oktoberfest weekend. Heat didn't work, lights didn't workand the thought of hundreds of people in the same bed at a sleazy hotel made me want to take as hower. Switched rooms twice and then just gave up. There were some scary people around for me to ask "who are these people?' The ladies at the front desk though, were absolutely sweet, helpful, nice, friendly and has adorable personalities. That kept me going into psycho mode. read more

We were going to get something from the venting machine outside of the office until the guy said "use that at your own risk" if they don't work just put out of order. They overbook and will not have rooms you reserved and paid for online in advance. Then they'll try to upsell you to another, larger room instead of just upgrading you in there at the price you originally paid. No respect for hotels who do business this way. Even if it's still an acceptable practice today, they get enough demand to not need to overbook. This never minds the vagrants and other weekly-motel residents they apparently are allowing to live here, meaning you need to watch your back and belongings even if you successfully make it into a room. I'd avoid this place entirely. I'd even stay in Barstow and drive up rather than stay here if it were the only lodging option on Big Bear. read more

One thing I've learned over many years is that fairness is key. This Motel 6 deserves a 5 Star review. The location is a few miles outside of the famous Big Bear Village; right off Highway 18. The Lake is also a short drive or even moderate walk away; very doable. The grounds are safe; with the Sheriff substation being only several blocks away; and is very-well lit, even at night. The workers are the most friendly; caring; hard-working, & knowledgeable people around. They took the time to explain everything upon checking-in; & even triple-checked our key cards for us to avoid the hassle of being locked out or stuck. There were NO hidden fees whatsoever. As per the stay; yes, the rooms were minimal as far as toiletries & bedding; but there was a blanket; there was soap; there was tons of towels; the room smelled fresh and was no dust to be found. I am very sensitive allergy-sufferer & I felt extremely rested the next day & not at all irritated. This was a beautiful, relaxing trip. There is many grocery stores & 24/7 places for any accessories you may need; & no price gouging either. You can only ask so much in life; I found this experience to be well above-&-beyond what I had hoped it to be; I will return again as soon as possible. read more

Awful for the price (was charged $705 for an overnight Saturday night.) No shampoo or conditioner, no blow dryer, no fridge, no coffee maker, no coffee on premises, no book to tell you anything, no box of tissues, literally nothing but two basic double beds. Oh and coudln't get the remote to work and the woman in the office didn't know any details about the snowplay park next door. But did tell me that if I learned anything about it I could come back and tell her... yeah, for $705 dollars. Not worth over $125 a night, if they ask more it's price gouging. read more

What can I say about this motel6 that hasn't already been said about a motel6? This place is in desperate need of a deep cleaning. The light just outside the window of our room is a 520,000 watt bulb in dayglow white. So, it is like daytime all night in the room. When I went to the front desk to request a different room... I was met with a "deer in headlights" stare. Which, made me very excited! I was told I would see some crazy wildlife up here. I just didn't realize it would be at the front desk. read more

Very pleasant stay here at this motel. I was a little apprehensive about this place but it wasn't really that bad! We just needed a place to rest for the evening after a day of skiing. The room was clean. Linen looked fresh and bathroom was very clean. We had two double beds and there was plenty of room to spread out. Of course there was no breakfast but they did have a little coffee maker in the office area where you check in. Rented a room so I could work up here for the night, came rolling in around 130am had already got my key prior but did not go in, the sheets where clean but I'm assuming it was a smoking room but they had not giving me the option for that. I had to wear my socks through out the room Or else my feet would be black from the cigarette ash on the floor, there where shoe prints every where, not to mention how dirty my shower sink and toilet where.
