We were a little on the fence regarding our meals at Motherland Kitchen. The flavors we encountered were amazing and Ms Sabina's hospitality was top notch, but the food portions were small and the chicken dishes we received were filled with tiny bone fragments that both of us had to continuously extract from our mouths as we ate. Honest review. If you are west African you are better off eating something else. Ordered the Jollof w/beef & cabbage Jollof with suya and moin moin Okra meat pie The jollof tasted old. Meat pie tasted okay the filling was yummy but the pastry tasted like old pillsbury. The moin-moin tasted old. Okra had too much salt. The only thing good was suya. It was cooked well and seasoned well. It was not tough very yummy. That's the only reason why it get two stars otherwise I wasted $60. read more

We just tried Motherland Kitchen on Saturday and really enjoyed our meals. Our son had the meat plate with red beans and rice and the greens and thoroughly enjoyed his meal (I didn't get one little taste either). My husband had the jerk chicken dish with jollof rice and eggplant stew and (we both loved the eggplant stew the most) and I had a veggie patty and plantains; YUM. The only thing I could suggest is bigger portions for our 21 year old son! ha ha! He can't ever eat enough and I'm not sure where it all goes? We will definitely go back and I will tag along, because my husband said the owner was a lovely lady! Please try this place the next time you are looking for something good for take out! read more

Tasty food . Loved that there were vegan options! Prices were reasonable. You won't find doubles, bust up shut, roti or sorrel here. This is an African, not really a Caribbean restaurant. Service was great. Nice fresh food. Sadly the rice and beans were microwave over heated. Edges of rice were hard. The corn side dish was dry and over heated too. The cabbage stew was delicious, moist and heated perfectly. We would stop by again for a meal. Recommend that others stop by and order a meal. read more

My husband stopped in for lunch, loved the food, brought home beef stew leftovers plus added a couple of beef patties to go. Everything I tried was absolutely delicious... so delicious that we returned the following day to order beef patties and vegetable patties to go! Grilled fish?? Nothing grilled about this fish! I swear they took the fish out of the freezer, wrapped it in aluminum foil and threw it in the oven. No seasoning....nothing. They served it to me still wrapped in that foil. When I opened the foil, the fish was dripping wet! disgusting! The greens also had no flavor and honestly were not edible. Two bites and they were in the trash can. When they took my order they offered me "sweet potatoes" as a side. I got home to find thin cut sweet potato fries that were also tasteless except for the taste of oil. As someone who eats African food a lot, this was a HUGE disappointment especially since they charged me $25 for something that every other African place on the planet never charges more that $15 for!. Sabina is a one woman show! She greeted my friends and I when we came in. Food was fantastic and flavorful. She will tell you she puts love in her cooking and she's not kidding. Food took a bit of time but it was well worth the wait. The meat was tender, the veggies had so much flavor and the best part is afterward, you feel good. The food is healthy and doesn't weigh you down. Kati Kati chicken, grilled meats, collards and plantains. We were all convinced that we would try different foods to share and then by the time we were done talking to the owner, we fell in love with the idea of chicken. She talked us out all getting the same thing to get a full experience. We were so thankful she did. Just wonderful. We were so glad to discover Motherland Kitchen while we were on our way to visit the state park. The owner, Sabina, is so kind and welcoming - we felt right at home. The food was delicious and a great chance for us to try authentic west African food. My husband and I shared two main dishes - the chicken and peanut butter as well as the khati khati chicken. The flavors were amazing & it reminded my husband of his mothers cooking from the Middle East. We felt like we were having a home cooked meal amongst friends! It's great pls support local businesses. The jerk chicken has great flavor. The plantain is also very delicious.

I had the beef tips. I assumed they came with rice so ordered plantains as a side dish. I was disappointed when it turned out to be just beef and plantains on the dish. The beef tips were cold in the center and already over cooked and tough so I didn't want to return them for a heat up. The plantains were excellent. Nevertheless, the beef should have never made it out of the kitchen. The fact that it did was enough for me to decide never to go back. read more

The food was amazing. The welcome was warm. Everything about this hidden gem was brilliant. Best fried plantains I've ever had. Delicious, spicy beef patty. The most delicious puff puffs (beignets) and they even offered them gluten free from a dedicated fryer for the same price as the regular ones. The owner was so gracious.
