Mother's North is conveniently located in our neighborhood. It has become our go to and yes, the service was horrible as they transitioned. Lots of valid complaints regarding poor/bad/horrible service HOWEVER we stuck it out and continued to go. Lemme tell you... Mother's North is stepping it up and we LOVE IT! We love how they created a space for the pool players which also created a space for a band stage and an area for dancing. In the evenings the bar is full with regular patrons (I hope some of you will post a good review for our favorite hangout! hint hint) As for the topic of service, they recently hired new servers and I heard are looking for more (anyone needing a job?). With that said, new staff takes time to train so again we will be patient as they develop this new crew. Being small business owners, we understand that unhappy patrons will quickly post a bad review without giving the business a fair chance. Opening a new business is not always smooth. Yes...service is critical in a service industry, I do not disagree that Mother's made a poor first impression and it has taken them a ridiculous length of time to get it together BUT... they are moving forward. This place was horrid! First off you can't enter in the door without passing through many people sitting on benches out front smoking. We arrived around 1:10 pm. Their was one other table in the restaurant. They left shortly after we arrived. Our server took our order but that is about all she did. We ordered a French Dip and Buffalo Chicken Sandwich. It took our food over 30 minutes to come out with only six people sitting at the bar drinking. We had to ask our server for every single thing such as silver ware, drinks, ranch etc., as she was to bothered to wait on us. My order came out wrong after repeating it to her twice but that is what happens when she wrote nothing down. The food was mediocre at best. My Buffalo Chicken sandwich was over cooked and tough not to mention small for the price. The tater tots my wife had were under cooked and were just crumbles on her plate. Once our server delivered our food she was non existent. She never came back to check on us after she delivered our food. We ran out of drinks, my wife need more au jus and napkins. We tried to get our servers attention but she was to busy at the bar on her cell phone, and going back and forth to the kitchen and coming out with her mouth stuffed with food and drinking on the front line bar area. She could not bother to take care of the paying customers because she was to busy taking care of herself. We never got our drinks, extra au jus etc. We sat waiting for her to come back for 20 minutes and she never came back just kept eating. My wife finally walked up to the bar and once again the server was in the kitchen eating off the line. The server stated "yes" to my wife and my wife stated we need our ticket since you have not come back to our table. The server then brought our check out and had the nerve to say I should of waved to her to get her attention. I advised her as a server it is your job to be attentive to your customers and I should never have to wave at you to get your attention. Besides since you didn't wash your hands between feeding your self, touching a dirty glass at the bar that had been drank out of to touching clean cups etc., the last thing I wanted was you to handle something for me or my wife. I also stated it was obvious you were more interested in taking care of yourself than taking care of paying customers. This was our first and last visit to this location. We have eaten at Mother's downtown and never had an experience such as this. I would provide the servers name but the receipt only say Day Bar. read more

I'm familiar to the University Mother's location. With that in mind I had appropriate expectations and was excited to try out the new location. Many people had pre warned me that they had issues with service, but I was hoping it was a one off. Well here to let others now that everyone is right! This place has some seriously bad service. I'm aware that it's a bar but how can you possibly expect to attract any new or repeat customers with such a poor level of service. As me and my girlfriend were walking inside there were a group of men heckling another party for leaving. I should've known right there to turn around... but I do like the wings from the other location! So we went inside, it was our first time at this location which made it a bit unclear for us if it was a wait to be seated or sit wherever. After standing at the door with no one acknowledging us, or a single server letting us know we could seat ourselves, for a few minutes we finally decided to seat ourselves. We waited... and waited.... still no one came to see us. There weren't many people seated at the booths so it was pretty obvious we were there to eat. Clearly it was not meant to be because no one came and we eventually threw the towel in and gave up. With others warning me and me seeing firsthand that service isn't even close to a priority there I can't see how someone could recommend this place. read more

Really bad service! This is the words that can some up my experience to Mothers last night. My softball team decided to go to the bar after our first softball game on Friday night. We showed up around 7:45 and put a few tables together with the permission of the waitress. We had prob in total about 15 to 20 people. I am a big fan of Mother's and have been to the other location in town several times. I really love their chicken wings. We started out ordering just beers and it was all fine. After about 45 minutes being there the waitress finally came back to take food orders. We all ordered food ranging from Chicken Wings, Steak, Fries, Cheese Curds, and Burgers. We placed the order then we waited, and waited, and waited a little longer. It took over an hour for the first meals to start coming out of the kitchen and the orders were wrong for the most part. I came back to the table after using the restroom and notice wings had arrived which I was happy about, but they ended up not being mine. They were someone at the tables but the waitress started to just set things down. Some people never received what they ordered. I had ordered 10 chicken wings and tater tots, well the chicken wings came out and 30 minutes later the tater tots came out. My friend ordered 20 wings and they only gave him 10. Some one got a salad and they did not bring dressing and actually never brought it. And it was just a mess. Also the food was awful! Food was awful. Fries and tots were so cold inside almost not edible. The Chicken wings not full cooked, the sauce was the worst garlic sauce I have ever had. The salads looked really bad and the my friend who got the steak said it was rubbery. The checks took another hour to bring out. I finally said something to the service manager and she comped the tots and apologized. She did not say why some people never got their food and what the issue was, but most likely this was a first and last at Mother's North. A new Mother's location has replaced the old Sal's Place. Clean, good service and large TVs. Strong drinks and generally no complaints. Would be a good place to watch a sporting event (watched the Grammys here and there was plenty of room). The Mother's name will hopefully bring a little more business to the area. Also has pool tables and lots of booths. Saw people having wings but didn't try any-- will have to get some next time. Nice to have a local bar to come to! read more

This place is absolutely horrible, worst Place in Gainesville, the "comedian" they have is extremely racist and talks on political views which causes problems between the customers, the drinks are horrible, it's absolutely filthy in the bar and the restrooms, there was a blood tampon on the floor in the women's restroom, but the worst about this place is the staff, especially the managers, they are rude and disrespectful, they messed up my order 4 times and I asked to speak to a manager and she wasn't even willing to fix it. I would never go to this place again, if your going to go to mothers, go to the one on university, the staff are nice the drinks and food is amazing and they have karaoke. read more

I decided to stop in for some drinks with my girlfriend, I had 4 captains and she had 5 Tito's. We mixed in a little bit of food as well and then at the end of the night when we got the tab, it stated that we had ordered doubles on the captain. So I said to the waitress this is not true we ordered singles the whole night. She agreed and thought that maybe she had punched the wrong button. So she went to the manager I believe she said her name was Natalie and explain to her the situation that we were charged doubles for singles and the manager said well I poured double so they're paying for it. I told the waitress to go back that I did not order doubles and I refuse to pay for doubles, especially since it was in the same size cup, so I couldn't tell what they were singles or doubles. When the manager talk to me she made very clear you ordered doubles but you say you ordered singles so I'm going to change it but your waitress is gonna have to pay for it so you need to make sure you tip her!!!! that was the response from the manager. Unbelievable. This poor girl has to work for her. This was my second time here the first time was great . I don't know if I will be back? the customer service any attitude of the manager was terrible. Not to mention when we got there. It was 10 minutes till seven when we sat down by the time we had someone service or even approach to table. It was 705 I said to the waitress. Can we still get our first round on happy hour since we've been sitting here for 15 minutes and when she asked that same manager that same manager said no it's after seven! Went on a Friday afternoon for their $4 burgers & fries. Excellent! I would definitely go back. Well worth the $4. Great burger, great fries... a home run! Then, went on Monday for their 50-cent wings and 50-cent tacos. BIG Strike-out! Holy cow! A one-hour and 15-minuute wait after we ordered! Are you kidding me? WTF! I can't believe my wife and I sat there that long ... waiting. They weren't that busy. Management needs to get their act together in the kitchen. under-staffed, under-trained, who knows. And if the wait wasn't bad enough ... the wings were the oiliest, greasiest wings I have ever seen. We ordered 4 different flavors of 10 wings (10 wings per sauce). The wings arrived in a bowl floating in a pool of flavored oil/grease. Wow, I have never seen that before. And, all 4 flavors tasted pretty much the same, no real distinction. These wings were so oily, that my car engine had a bad "knock" in it, I threw 4 wings into the oil filler cap, engine has been running good ever since! You're not supposed to take wings home (dine in only), but we took ours home anyway. We rolled them in paper towels to de-grease them, then dipped them in our own blue-cheese dressing and ranch dressing; much better. read more

Just got home from Mother's with our take out order. The drinks we had and time we spent there was great. Although getting home and finding out that they made my sandwich entirely wrong was not. The bread (listed in the menu as a fresh Cuban bread) was only a hoagie roll. I ordered no pickles and found extra pickles waiting. Suffice to say I won't be touching this sandwich. I want to mention this is not my first time ordering this sandwich which is why when I opened the box to a sub roll I knew something was wrong. When I got it in the past it was on a bread. If they ran out of something that is totally fine, just let a person know. That's all I'm saying. Just let a person know. read more

Long story short: I paid more than expected while getting less food than expected. The menu online states that 40 wings cost $30 and come with a side of carrots and celery. You also get ranch. I called and ordered 40 boneless wings for takeout. The problems I encountered are below- 1. I got bone-in instead of boneless. Beyond personal preference, it is much easier to feed small children boneless wings. I wish I got what I ordered. 2. I did not get the celery or carrots. Not sure if this was an accident or if they do not include these sides for takeout. 3. I was charged $36 instead of $30. I have double checked the menu online and I do not see anything about an upcharge for take out. I also was not told about an upcharge when ordering. I expect an upcharge if I use a service like DoorDash, but that wasn't the case here. I will say that the wings were wrapped in foil and placed in trays, but I do not think that this justifies a 20% increase in price for the consumer. Especially if I am not taking up a table or a waitress's attention. I think either the menu online is outdated or I was charged more for the packaging. If the former, that is understandable and I hope the owner sees this so it can be fixed. If it is the latter, the price increase far outweighs the additional cost to the business. Again, especially if I am not taking up a table (or getting the celery and carrots). If simple foam boxes would bring the cost down, do that. Customers should also be told about this when ordering to avoid the surprise. The wings were very good, but the markup means that I will be ordering takeout from elsewhere in the future. There are wing joints in town of comparable quality that are less expensive. read more

Walked into Mothers North on January 19th and they were semi busy but not swamped. 4 different servers walked by and 2 made eye contact with me and 0 wanted to serve me for some reason. The girl with the crop top wiped a table off right behind me and looked at me and rolled her eyes.. she was ready to go. Maybe I'll try again some day but we went to Crafty Bastards and they showed us some pretty swift service! Our first time here. Don't go there expecting a great (or even good) Black and Tan. They don't serve Harp (even though it is advertised on the window) The owner should take a look at the beer lines. The number one killer of beer flavor is dirty beer lines which can build up with bacteria and cause off flavors. The pastrami used for the Rueben was poor quality, with chucks of fat. The Interior flooring is a train wreck with obvious wear under barstools and chucks missing throughout. The pros. They have plenty of large TVs and our server was good. read more

Last night my girlfriend and I went to have drinks and dinner here. The place was not even close to halfway full so I thought it would be good and fast. We sit down and when the waitress gets around to asking for our drinks we tell her then she tells us the draft system is down. Ok. So we then ordered our drinks. The only thing that had to transpire is walking to the bar and having the bartender get them. We waited over 10 minutes just for that to happen. Then we tried to order food. I ordered the nachos and my girl ordered wings with blue cheese and tacos as they were the special. About 10 minutes later the waitress came back and informed us that they didn't have nachos. Ok. So I changed my order to a sandwich and fries. Close to 30 min later our order came out. The sandwich was microwave quality at best and I got tater tots instead of fries. She apologized and went to go get my fries. The winds did not come with blue cheese and seemed to have been previously cooked and just tossed in warm sauce. The wings were cold on the inside yet overcooked. When the fries came out they looked like they had been reheated as well. Even for bar food this was unacceptable. We were there for over an hour and 15 minutes and only got 2 rounds of drinks. This place fails on every aspect. I even watched as people came and went and no one wiped down our tables. It is clear that customer service, sanitation and quality is not a concern to the owner. I attempted to call today and speak to the manager and I was informed he wasn't in and they didn't know if he would be in today or when. Do not waste your money here. The staff are good and work hard. But we ordered a take out steak dinner and they overcharged us on it. There was no gravy period as advertised and the price charged to us was higher than the internet menu ad says it is. The steak was tough and full of gristle so it was not edible. The place was so loud you couldn't hear anyone next to you shouting. When we had the nerve to complain, we were told if we didn't like it, don't come back. The manager went so far as to personally attack my wife on Facebook. He insulted us for being elderly, retired and me a veteran on disability. As if we have never worked hard in our lives. My wife was a Hospice Nurse for 15 years! We don't need this kind of abuse or to waste our small income on the few treats we get eating out for garbage food and rude behavior that is beyond the pale!!! Management acts with impaired, possibly drunk behavior, no way to run a business. We didn't expect money back, but a simple apology and taking responsibility as an adult is the right thing to do. We gave Mother's Pub North another chance. Opps. Not a good dining experience. One enters the restaurant through a cloud of cigarette smokers hanging out at the door. The sidewalk is littered with butts. Once we sat down, we started the evening with very loud music. The idea of dining with friends is to have a conversation so I asked our waiter to turn the music down, and he did. For ten minutes. Then the music volume went back up. To make matters worse, the music selection was grunge and heavy metal. That's fine if you like way too loud heavy metal. Our crowd didn't like it. As for the food, the fish and chips came with overcooked fish and chips and the super cool looking burger that was ordered medium came out of the kitchen super well done. The Sheppard's pie was OK, not too bad but certainly not award-winning. The owner needs to spend some time at his restaurant. The demographics are a bit different than what he is used to downtown. Get rid of the cigarette clouds, clean up the sidewalk, get rid of the grunge and heavy metal, and find a cook who can cook. we might give it one more chance. Then again, maybe not. read more

My daughter and I went there for lunch on August 6th. We sat down at a booth, the only one that was serving was the bartender. There were a few people at the bar at the bar and one of the other booths, she refused to acknowledge that we had even there. I tried to get her attention multiple times and she would not acknowledge us after about 10 minutes we just got up and left. I'm very disappointed. read more
