Driving up to Napa is always lovely. Some days, there's no traffic and other days can be chaotic. The Sonoma Racetrack had a race and traffic backed up. I was ready for a stop and snack. Mothers Tacos was calling my name. There has been some changes. Less food items on the menu and more drinks featuring a full bar for cocktails. A margarita with tacos is a delightful combo. The mushroom taco is still on the menu and it continues to be a solid choice. I actually enjoyed it more than the pescado this time. For me, I could never say no to the horchata. Maybe next time I'll try a cocktail. The outdoor seating is inviting, service is fast and kind, and the food is always made with care. read more

Food: Chips and Salsa - large variety of salsas so decided to add an order of chips to try the variety, verde was my personal favorite here bright, refreshing tomotillo with a little bit of jalapeno kick, the other salsas were okay Al pastor taco - solid, meat had decent seasoning but was hoping for more char but a solid Al pastor fresh pineapple was a nice touch Mushroom taco - not good, had an almost sour flavor, appreciated the cheese crust but the tart note from the mushrooms really put us off for this one Carne asada taco - fine, lightly seasoned, beef portion felt generous, salsa doing the heavy lifting for flavor but a solid choice Chicharrones taco - a bit disappointed, chicharrones wasn't super hot or crispy, was hoping this would be fresher but felt like the meat had been sitting for a while Service was fine, fast casual order at the counter and pick up your order from the pass when ready, everything else is self serve. TBH, I thought Mothers serves gentrified tacos but their CDMX offal tacos are bomb and IMO, rivals the ones in The Mission, Excelsior, and San Jo (haven't explored the taco scene in E Oaktown). Offal tacos are $6 each and only served Friday - Sunday. Fast-casual service and mainly outdoor seating. F O O D Tacos are served on a single handmade corn tortilla that had the texture of al vapor from the piping hot proteins. They're topped with diced onions and cilantro. * Lengua: Beef Tongue My litmus test for any taqueria or taco truck, this was some of the best lengua I've had. Juicy, meltingly tender, and deeply beefy...cut in meaty slices, not cubes which made every bite even better. We contemplated returning the next day for more but were still full from brunch. * Cabeza: Beef Head Rich and savory with some fatty bits...melt in yo mouff like beef butter. Like the lengua, it's cut in larger pieces so you can enjoy the meat flavor and texture at its peak. * Tripa: Beef Intestines The tripa is cooked dorado style...freshly fried and crunchy, not greasy. For dining there, you order inside at the counter, they give you a number and you find your own seat. They will bring out your food when it's ready. There are a few bar seats inside, but all the tables were outside. Service was awesome, staff were friendly and asked how we were doing mid meal. Ordered 3 tacos, Carne asada, Al Pastor & Suadero on normal tortillas, 1 asada on a cheese shell, and 1 Hongo (mushroom taco) I like Suadero and Hongo tacos the most. I've seen this place featured on Social Media from a few people I follow, so I knew I had to match their energy and try this place out. I've been eating a lot of asian dishes + wine tastings in this time, that Mexican food has escaped me! NOT THIS TIME! I'm in California, and I will find good Mexican Tacos even if it kills me. The inside of this spot is no-frills. Go up to the counter, make your order, and if you're staying they will hand you a number to place at your table so that they can bring your food to you. Taco prices generally range from 4.50 to 5.45. The only exception? The fish taco --- that's gonna bite you at 7.75. If you want to upgrade any taco (except the fish) into a mulita (these are sandwiching meat and melted cheese between two warm tortillas, which are then grilled or pan-fried until the outside is crispy.), that'll bring each taco to $7.75 each. So if you're not careful and on a budget, you can easily splurge. The taste? Honestly, my "mexican food craving" was absolutely satiated at Mothers! So why the 4-stars? Well, I love cebollitas --- and I didn't get any!! I'm now looking at all the other photos of Yelpers, and they seem to all have that on their plates, except for mine. I decided to try a fish taco and a mulita. They were both so good & filling. I had the mothers margarita and it easily goes into my top 5 of margaritas. It was so good!!! I saw several reviews for this place on social media and knew I had to try it. Once we arrived this was our first stop after picking up the rental car and boy...it didn't disappoint. We pulled up a little confused but we quickly located the spot and a few people walking up that we had a ball with. The gentleman and his mom had of laughing and he recommended a few things and one being the fish Taco. Once we were inside we took in the menu, drinks and atmosphere and the lady waiting on us was patient. We also met a nice older gentleman that struck up a conversation with us. He was extremely friendly and he let us know that everything on the menu was a winner. After ordering my taco, margarita and chips I later found out he was the owners son and he was in town visiting. He was a joy to speak with and his son was just as nice and friendly. The taco was a nice size and a 10/10. I would purchase it over and over again. My margarita was a 7/10. The flavors on the proteins were delicious. My favorite was the al pastor with the pineapple on top. So juicy and has a nice hint of sweetness. They were generous and filled me up! It also comes with a very large onion on top which I had trouble eating but had good flavor. The loaded fries were decent. Driving back from Sacramento, we made a pit stop in Napa for some great tacos. The staff was friendly and directed us to the menus on the wall before we ordered. Our spicy margaritas came out first, with the perfect blend of sweet, sour, and spice. We sat outside in the sunshine, with no trouble finding a table with the large outdoor patio. The dirty fries and tacos were absolutely delicious, the meat was succulent with a nice heat from the various types of salsa. I stopped by Mothers Tacos around 6pm on a Friday, and it was pretty busy - though we were still able to grab a table under the outdoor tent by the heater. I've heard great things about Mothers Tacos and was excited to finally give it a try! Having lived in San Diego I was very hopeful to find some great tacos in the area, and the vibe inside was definitely that of a classic taqueria - small but cozy, with an assortment of outdoor seating. I got a taco de lengua (only available Fri-Sun), al pastor, and asada. The lengua was excellent - tender and tasty though the tortillas did struggle to hold together a little due to all the juices. I'm typically a fan of al pastor more than asada, but the asada here is great - not too dry or tough as asada can be at some places, and flavorful. The al pastor was also good, with great texture, but not as flavorful as I expected. I love that the tacos come with a good amount of onion and cilantro, and the servings are very generous - 3 tacos was definitely enough for a good sized meal. They also offer 4 different salsas, pickled onion, and pickled veggies at a self serve bar inside! I also tried the pescado, suadero and chicarron tacos my friend got - these were also great and the fish was perfectly crisp without being heavy. Overall, Mothers Tacos is a great place for tacos, and worth a visit! This place is amazing. The first time I went here, what this place had to offer was spectacular. My favorites are the chicharron mulitas and the dirty fries. Mulitas are like a sandwich made with two quesadillas and meat filling with cheese and onions too. The dirty fries are waffle fries style with special sauce, pickled onions, cheese, and you can sub pastor meat for mushrooms. Food here is lit. The service is always excellent and the workers know what they have to do to satisfy us. The ambiance is amazing, you can sit outside too. We wanted to try a little bit of everything so between my husband and I, we ordered: dirty waffle fries, chicharron bites, 2 mulitas, 4 fish tacos, and 2 micheladas. This was definitely way too much food as we had plenty of leftovers. The chicharron bites were the only food that I would not recommend. When you think chicharron, you think deep-fried and crispy. Unfortunately they weren't that crispy and also could have used some more salt. Now onto the good. Honestly, the dirty waffle fries took the unexpected spotlight. Whenever I have any type of fry that has sauce in it, it's usually at the least, the tiniest amount of soggy. But here, the waffle fries somehow all remained ultra-crispy. And the sauce was fire; tasted like some type of chick-fil-a sauce variation. It was also our first time trying mulitas, which are basically just like taco quesadillas, in a sense. A bit too heavy for my taste, but if you love cheese you'd probably enjoy them. The fish tacos were good, but not the best I've had. I like how they give you a giant charred green onion per person which seems to be their signature mark. WOW. So many places to eat in Napa within a 5 mile radius but I needed a pet friendly places as well & since it was 90 degrees I wanted to be outdoors. And @MotherstacosNapa checked all the boxes. I was surprise of the location in a strip mall, but strategically located at end of building which gives them a nice side patio. I literally arrived about 2 minutes before the end of "Happy Hour" but that wasn't the selling point. This place is FUN, they were doing a fundraiser Lotería(Mexican Bingo) and Daniel Martinez @casamartinezwines was pouring his wines to boot. I ordered 2 tacos, pastor(spiced pork) and chicharrones(crunch pork pieces) what can I say I was on a pork binge. The presentation was great with 2 big perfectly grilled green onions too. I also saw people with a beautiful mango margarita, it was orange in color with tagine(spice)around the rim. I kinda had Margarita envy. But my regular Margarita was on point, tangy & salted rim that went perfect with the spicy salsas I added to my tacos. I'll add this was a drink made there, not premade. It was very, very good. The interior is small & industrial vibe, order at counter & they bring food out to the table. They do have some stationary stools by the large windows. Service was great. Everyone hard at work. What a hidden gem in Napa! In all the times I've gone to Napa we've always gone to Oxbow market for food since there are so many options. But today, I wasn't feeling anything at Oxbow. Mothers Tacos was only 8 mins away and had a lot of reviews. I was so happy we decided to come here instead because the tacos were so so good. They make their tortillas fresh right there in front of you. We ordered a side of tortilla chips and these are one of the biggest tortilla chips I've ever had but so light and crispy. There's 3 different type of salsa on the side and super fresh pico de gallo. Beware their pickled veggies are spicyyy. The carne asada was super juicy and delicious. Seen this place and finally had a chance to try. Tucked into the corner of a strip mall, we walked in and grabbed menus. There's a small bar and counter for ordering drinks, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. We were greeted warmly by the staff and ordered some tacos and drinks. This is one of my go-to spots in Napa to grab food from. They actually grill the meat outdoors so you can taste the char. When I've gone everything has tasted fresh, but I will say the closer that you go to closing time the more risk that the meat has been off of the grill for a while. I haven't had issues with dry meat though so no complaints from me, a lot of places don't even grill their asada. I'm a fan of the carne asada tacos and mulitas, I like to get one of each. I've tried the suadero and it was decent, but for me it was a one and done. There are vegan and seafood options here too. It's in a shopping center so parking is easy. It's in between downtown Napa and Trancas St so I find the location to be super convenient. They do have a few high top chairs indoors but its usually to crowded for that to be enjoyable. Most of the seating is outside and I hate eating outdoors and defending my food against bugs. I order to go so that I can eat in my car or take it home. I love Mexican style beans and rice and these were outstanding. Great chips and salsa. This is a place you should not miss. My only regret was that I didn't know what mulitas were. They are a corn tortilla with a filling of your choice topped with cheese and a second tortilla. All this is grilled sort of like a grilled cheese sandwich. I went in and let the worker know I have severe gluten allergy and I didn't notice her write anything down, so not sure how safe the kitchen staff was. When we first walked into Mother's, we didn't really get a warm greeting , they seemed to rush us straight into ordering. No one explained the chips and salsa situation, either. The food came out quickly, but overall, it was a bit underwhelming maybe a 2 or 3 out of 5. The tortillas were nice, but the meat and salsas lacked that bold Mexican flavor I was hoping for. I will say, it's impressive that the place markets everything as Mexican or Chicano-style, but it's worth noting it isn't actually owned by a Mexican.
