El Guadalajara has great potential but hard to realize that potential with a server that hasn't been trained properly... didn't know the menu, didn't listen, and was largely absent. Appetizer was wrong, two of four entrees were wrong and took forever to get sides for fajitas. Replacements of one of tags entrees took to long so canceled it. Food was pretty good and drinks very tasty. Ambiance was very Mexican what is obviously appropriate. We will try again but will insist on a different server. read more

A delightful old-school Mexican restaurant. Clientele ranges from local latinos to older "gringos" whose Spanish is limited to "una cerveza por favor, gracias." A wide menu with seafood, steaks, typical enchiladas, and breakfast too. A nice cocktail menu and they sling a lot of margaritas too. The decor is a selling point, with beautiful, hand-painted and carved tables and chairs imported from Mexico, artwork on the walls and "papel picado" hanging from the ceiling. The only reason why I'm giving us a two star is because the service was pretty good. A little slow, but very nice server. The tacos were so greasy and tasted like two year-old oil. The smell and the taste stuck with me all day. Yuck. The chips and salsa were OK. Salsa I didn't like. Guacamole tasted like something out of a container and the refried beans had a really dirty taste to them. Kitchen looked disgusting when I looked in. Won't be going back there. Our party of four arrived at 5 pm. We were seated and then ignored for 10 minutes while watching 4 food servers and one bus person stand in back and chat. It seemed horribly inconvenient and inconsiderate for us to be there expecting good food and service. We had to go back to the busser station and break up their gossip to get one to come out and take our drink order. 5 min later, still no drinks. Finally drinks arrived . We ordered more and the food just in case the glacial service go slower. My friends wife had a chicken burrito which arrive 5 minutes before her husband's Shrimp dish. 5 min later, our fajita arrived sizzling and hot, 5 minutes after that , she dropped off the flour tortillas. We asked where the plate of guacamole , beans, rice, and sour cream that was supposed to accompany the sizzling hot fajitas were?!? Oh she said, 5 min later, she dropped off that plate and by then the sizzle was gone and the fajitas were like warm. Rather than risk any further disasters of incompetence, we ate and paid and left . NEVER TO RETURN!! Thankful Don Perico's is opening again soon, and Las Palmas is a regular stop of ours. BTW, I worked in restaurants all through college and beyond and I've never seen such bad service. (It wasn't busy). This is my first bad review in ages. But they deserved it! When you first walk in, you're greeted with those bright, authentically Mexican colors and designs, as well as music, so it feels like a party. Our host and waiter, Jason, was so polite and well-mannered, and attentive to our needs. He immediately brought us chips that you could tell were freshly made, and two kinds of salsa, red and green. I thought the green one was particularly delicious, but my husband liked the red one better. I ordered a taco salad with grilled chicken and a Mexican hot chocolate, both of which were excellent. My husband had the enchiladas suizas that came with rice and beans and lettuce, and a side of tortillas. Serving sizes were big, so delicious as it was, we couldn't finish it all. went there last night celebrating my friends birthday and Valeria took care of us! She was so great, made us feel so so welcomed. Food came out fast and I had a hard time choosing a drink so she recommended a guava cosmo drink, it was the best drink I could've went with! I ended up having multiple of them. She brought out a flan and sang happy birthday to my friend, it was so sweet we hope to have her serve us again! Popped in on our way to meet some friends and this restaurant was beautifully decorated. Staff were pleasant but I was not ready when my order arrived. My husband and I ordered the shrimp burrito and OMG. Our food was hot and simply delicious. The green sauce and cheese perfectly complimented the contents. The rice and beans were flavorful. Oh boy, I don't like giving negative reviews. So let's start with/the positive, inside is gorgeous lots of colorful decor, even the chairs are painted elaborately with classic motifs of Mexican life. The service is fantastic. Parking can be a challenge. So here it goes, if they would match the food to the amount they spent on decor I would recommend. I'm so tired of 4 table spoons of rice & beans. And then blah sauces on food. Mine was an enchilada suiza. I guess the suiza was the dollop of sour cream on top. I'd be better off just ordering beans & rice, a side of tortillas & dumping the salsa on top. And don't get me started on the shredded iceberg lettuce. The food here was SO DELICIOUS! The carne asada was cooked perfectly and the seasoning on it tasted so good. The serving size was a big portion, I couldn't really finish all of it, but you get your moneys worth in food. The beans and rice had a delicious flavor and their house horchata was so so good. The waitress was really nice and attentive. The restaurant inside had been recently remodeled and all of the tables, chairs and decor was very nice. The only thing I did not like about this restaurant was how dark it was inside. The lighting is so dim in there it's hard to read the menu. Aside from the lighting I would give this place 5 stars, but the lighting was so dark that's probably the only negative thing about this place. Well, I tried to get into El Cheve but there was a line out the door so we ended up here. That's fine cause my aunt lived around the corner my entire childhood and I've never gone to that restaurant until now. I'm so glad we stumbled on it. Just the ambience and decor is so spot on. The restaurant is bright and vibrant and has color everywhere. The service was really good and the food was awesome too. I had the quesa burria tacos and they were amazing. The meat was seasoned well and tender. The shells were stuffed really full....and then so was I!, lol My friend had huevos rancheros. I gotta be honest I had a bite and the shells were already mushy and there were huge green pepper slices everywhere, which I don't care for. It didn't look or taste as good as the one from El Cheve. My friend liked it and that's all that matters. This was a fantastic find and I would definitely be back. If you haven't gone, why not? read more

Delicious food! I had the Chile Verde and it was amazing, my mom had the shrimp enchiladas in covered in a green creamy salsa. Chips and salsa delicious they give you 3 different ones a pico de Gallo, an avocado salsa and a red salsa. We went on a day that it was quite busy but the service was still really good. This place has significantly gone down hill. I'm going to be honest, the service this place was giving Hispanic people vs "white " patrons was noticeable... Our drinks were sub par, they used to be sooo good and big! Our server was also very slow and didn't know their beers that they had on draft and was very confused taking simple orders... I don't know if There may be confusion with language or if she was new, but her customer service was unacceptable. I ordered steak and chicken fajitas... when they came it had shrimp on it..... I didn't even ask for shrimp. I can't eat shrimp. They over killed on the onions and peppers and I barley got steak or chicken.... I asked for flour tortillas and they gave me corn ugh My father in law asked for draft negro modelo twice and she forgot and then she came to the table with a regular modelo and said "oh we don't have modelo negro on draft" The server would look at us and seemed really confused and it was just uneasy. The rest of the staff were not attentive and just plain rude. I know way better places in Napa that are friendly and make no errors like Las Palmas, villa corona, taqueria Rosie's or Taqueria Maria.. Pro tip: go on Saturdays and Sundays and get the Birria plate! El Guadalajara is a lively environment and a local gem! Prices are very fair, and it is rare for Napa to have really great food at such an affordable price. Initially, I hesitated to hype this place up too much because I wanted it to be my secret local hideaway, devoid of tourists, but it is too good not to share! Service is impeccable, and Gabriel is the best server ever! Gabriel is attentive, kind, and very professional. I left my puffer jacket here one evening when I had a few drinks, and the server, Gabriel, not only remembered my name but also returned my Armani jacket. I didn't even know where I had left the jacket, so it was a pleasant surprise when Gabriel returned it. He is the best!
