Place is always busy and popping, and we were able to get in before it was too packed. Even then, it was lively and had customers. Like many others have written, when entering, the display of enticing pastries make it difficult to choose. Each one looks really good. The staff don't mind giving recommendations, so feel free to ask. The process here is order, then sit. Pay while ordering. We visited La Cheve on a Sunday and immediately noticed the long line. That alone didn't discourage us. We had seen the restaurant featured on Check, Please! Bay Area and had heard plenty of positive reviews, so we were genuinely excited to finally try it. One thoughtful touch is that La Cheve provides umbrellas for guests waiting in line, which is especially appreciated when you're standing outside under the sun. It's a small gesture, but one that shows the restaurant has put some thought into making the waiting experience a little more comfortable. They also offer the option to order coffee through a QR code while waiting in line. I ordered a large black coffee, while my partner ordered a café con leche. Unfortunately, it took about 25 minutes for the drinks to be ready. When we picked them up, the café con leche was served in the same large cup as my coffee--but it was only half full, with roughly a quarter cup of coffee and another quarter consisting of foam. It felt odd drinking from a large half-full cup. Once we reached the counter, though, we were greeted with a warm smile, which was appreciated. We ordered the chilaquiles with an addition of Al Pastor meat, the asada and eggs, the concha French toast, a cronut, the house lager, and a local craft beer. it took approximately an hour and a half from the time we got in line until we were finally seated. By that point, we were more than ready to eat, and despite the long wait, we were still excited to see what the kitchen could do. Unfortunately, that excitement faded quickly once the food arrived. The concha French toast was a big disappointment. The menu description had immediately caught our attention, and we expected something that combined the richness and texture of French toast with the distinctive character of a concha. Instead, we received four small, shortcake-style pieces of bread that were dry and didn't particularly resemble either French toast or a concha. There was no noticeable cinnamon-egg batter, nor any powdered sugar. The dish was served with fresh berries and a side of cajeta ( a craft caramel sauce). The caramel itself was delicious, but it wasn't enough to make up for the lackluster bread. The chilaquiles were the biggest disappointment, and unfortunately, this dish had several execution issues altogether. The tortilla chips were soggy, lacking the texture you'd expect from well-executed chilaquiles. I also ordered the dish with Al Pastor meat, hoping to get a taste of the restaurant's house adobo. Instead, what arrived was a measly portion of tiny pieces and crumbs of meat that appeared to be mostly the remnants from the bottom of the pan. Then there was the oil. There was an excessive amount of it-- so much that a pool had collected in one corner of the plate (see picture below). I actually had to ask the server for extra paper napkins so I could soak up the oil. It was difficult to appreciate the pastor's seasoning or adobo from the oily portion that I was served. The eggs were another example of inconsistency with this plate. I specifically ordered them over medium, expecting set whites with a warm, runny yolk. Instead, the eggs were cooked very unevenly. One was noticeably overcooked, while the other was so thoroughly cooked that the yolk had essentially been obliterated. For a dish that relies on relatively simple ingredients, getting something as fundamental as the eggs right should be a given. My partner's asada and eggs wasn't terrible, per say. However, the dish consisted primarily of bell peppers, a blob of melted cheese, and some asada meat-- the kind you get with regular asada tacos. On the other hand, the biscuits that accompanied the dish, were a genuine highlight. We particularly enjoyed the jalapeño and cheese filling, which gave them a nice savory kick. Thankfully, the bakery items and beer showed us where La Cheve really shines. The house lager was crisp, refreshing, and very enjoyable, while the cronut was downright scrumptious. These were the kinds of items that reminded us why we had been so excited to visit in the first place. Ultimately, La Cheve feels like a restaurant with two very different personalities. The bakery side is impressive, while the savory kitchen needs considerably more attention to execution and consistency. If I were judging the bakery alone, I'd happily give it around 4.5 stars The cronut, biscuits, caramel, and house beer all showed plenty of promise. But the brunch dishes need work--particularly when it comes to texture, portioning, cooking temperatures, and consistency. We came in eager to understand what had generated so much enthusiasm for La Cheve. There are certainly some very good things happening here, and thoughtful touches like the umbrellas for guests waiting in line make a difference. This review is for my people's with anxiety when trying a new place. 1. When you arrive, the line is usually long outside, but that's only because the inside seating is limited (inside and patio). 2. The hostess makes cool announcements so listen up. She'll share a bit about the history, how the ordering works, etc. 3. You can order drinks online while waiting in line. Why not feel a little buzzyyy before eating?! 4. You order before you are seated. But trust me, worth it. We waited in line for about 25-30, but it went by fast when you're trying to figure out what to order, taking pics with their La Cheve bench and mural, and getting cute stickers from the sticker machine. 5. We had a group of five- we were able to pay on our own tabs and still be seated together. So that was convenient for anyone who wants to split bills. 6. Service was great! I wanted the Omelette, but wanted it as a scramble, and she was able to ask to make sure it was possible. I added a mushrooms and got jalapenos on the side. DELICIOUS. 7. Food came out almost right away. We waited maybe for 10 minutes. Water jugs are around, so it's self serving. For all you thirsty people, get it yourself lol. 8. Music was a vibe. Visited in August on a Monday and it was busy, but not as busy as I have heard it gets. We reviewed the menu and stood in a quick line to order food, get a seat with your number, etc. We ordered the Chilaquiles and Mulita Chorizo egg dish. Both were yummy, with lots of sauce, a spicy hot sauce for the Chilaquiles, and a ton of cilantro. After seeing this spot all over TikTok while planning my Napa trip, I knew I had to check it out. The history alone drew me in, it's the oldest existing building in Napa. We stopped by early in the morning right after hot air ballooning (it's a super convenient 15-minute drive from Sonoma Ballooning). At 7:30 AM, the place was already packed and had a lively atmosphere with old-school Mexican music playing, but there was still no wait to order and grab a table. The interior beautifully embraces the theme and feels just like the inside of an old Mexican home. The Food & Drinks: Asada Bistec with Nopales: The steak was grilled to the perfect temperature. The sides were really good too, though the refried beans had a little too much cheese for my personal taste Churro Martini: Definitely on the stronger side. So I've been here twice and I've been blown away both times. The Breakfast Sandwich is even tastier than you could imagine while being the perfect amount of food. There's something about that spicy mayo that really brings the bun and protein all together. The star is definitely the Burrito de Chorizo. This is easily the best Chorizo burrito I've ever had. If you just gave me the Burrito by itself you would have been fine. I mean the Chorizo itself isn't super greasy and I never get that feeling like after I've eaten 4 items from Taco Bell. The thing that sends your taste buds into the stratosphere is the Salsa itself comes with. It's like a smokier salsa and that alone is music to my heart and soul. If it ever gets too spicy it comes with sour cream to cool you down. But I almost guarantee if you order this, it's gonna be hard to pull away from that Burrito. Also the Paloma and El Berto drinks are amazing. The Mimosa flight is very much worth the price. Uncle Wigs is good but on the lighter side booze wise. So if you are lightweight, this could be a good choice. La Cheve has a unique system with ordering and getting your table. Normally if you go to a place where you order and then sit, you are usually allowed to sit where you want. Here they actually still show you to your table. However you won't have to wait super long for your food because once you sit down you see how well oiled the machine really is. The team at La Cheve is able to carefully manage the seating so that it never ever really feels like there is chaos. Some people might look at the open tables around them and be confused but not me. You ever go to a restaurant where its so loud that you have to turn your speaker volume up to 11/10? I can't stand that. Part of going out to a restaurant whether it's your friends or family is the experience. I want to reconnect with the people I love. I want to have pleasant and fun conversations. The abuelas must have taken some time off for the Labor Day weekend. This is the only explanation that makes sense for how the taste of the food changed from 2 weeks prior. My wife and I were in Napa 2 weeks ago and heard about this restaurant from Check Please Bay Area television program. The lines were long both times we visited, but we knew about this before going. This is the oldest building in Napa and limited in size. The parking lot is also limited so allow for extra time in case you have to park further away and walk. We could not stop raving about the food to one another. The rice and beans alone would have compelled us to visit again (and they did, unfortunately). The tacos were flavorful and juicy. We had no negative notes for the flan french toast. My wife enjoyed the mimosa flight, but would have liked the mango mimosa in the flight to have had a little less juice. I enjoyed my beer flight as well. I was curious about their in house beers and I was surprised at how much I enjoyed them. Fast forward 2 weeks. My wife and I had another planned trip to Napa and we made it a point to build time in the schedule to revisit La Cheve. We arrived about the same time in the day as our first visit (2 pm) and waited patiently in line. We ordered the steak tacos, rice and beans (of course) and the guacamole, because it must be out of this world like everything that they make there. Wife ordered the beermosa and I had their in house American Dream beer. The steak in the tacos were very flavorful but nothing out of the ordinary. The rice and beans did not taste as good as the first time. We talked about how good the rice was the first time and how we could just eat the rice without anything else. This time around, not so much. The rice and beans lacked flavor. Oh and the poor guacamole. The only flavor there was lime. The guacamole was over limed with chunks of onion, tomato and was in dire need of salt. My wife took one bite and refused to go back to it. The drinks were fine. In the end, the flavor of the food went from a solid 5 stars to a 0. I gave a 2 star rating because of the downward trend versus 3 stars given the 2.5 star average. Overall, I'm not sure if the 5 star experience or the 0 star visit was the anomaly. I went here for a pre-birthday celebration for my older sister with our younger sister and this place was spectacular. How it works, you order when you get to the front cashier as the line moves. Googled this spot and the reviews had me like "winning" so I stopped scrolling. Grabbed a Lyft, and when we pulled up I was relieved to see no line. The line was pretty long, we waited about an hour... but they do a nice job of taking care of people while you wait. They provide umbrellas for shade and also have water stations set up, which was really appreciated. The food was excellent. I had the chilaquiles with carne asada and red sauce and it was absolutely delicious. Everything was flavorful and super satisfying. The pastries are also a must-try, especially the choco flan concha. It was such a fun and unique treat and definitely something you shouldn't skip if you visit. The only downside was the bathrooms. They weren't the cleanest and had a noticeable smell, particularly the stall on the left side. My husband's green chilaquiles were also disappointing, with very little meat, no seasoning, and basically just chips covered in salsa. The biggest letdown was the $24 vegan concha toast it looked like a concha cut in half, dipped in egg, and topped with berries. I finally got the chance to try La Cheve which had been highly recommended to me for a while now, with a group of 5 on a Sunday morning. We arrived around 9am, and there was only a short line - we probably ordered and were seated by around 9:20. By the time we left at 11am, the line was around the building and not moving. The inside is cozy, a little cramped, and there was a fly that kept lingering around our table - which was the second largest one inside and barely sat all of us. We got many things to share: the ceviche, flan french toast, chilaquiles, chili verde benedict, and the mulita. The ceviche, and mulita were very good, and we were surprised by how well the flan texture worked with the french toast, and that it wasn't too heavy or sweet. While the chilaquiles and chili verde benedict were also good, they didn't stand out as much and it felt like they were both lacking something - do note the chili verde is a little spicy, in case you cant tolerate spice. We also got a few different hot and cold coffee drinks from the menu to try, and they were all also very tasty :) Last but not least, we wanted to try some of the pastries, which you order in the beginning, and they hold in a box for you to pickup at the outside window when you leave - we did have to line up and wait for another 15 minutes to grab out pastries on the way out. We got the guava concha, blackberry lemon danish, nutella croissant, and guava danish. All of the pastries were okay - we felt the croissant/danish pastries weren't the best, and that though we liked the flavors, we wished there was more of the flavor (i.e. guava, nutella, blackberry/lemon components) included, rather than the whipped cream/cream cheese/bread. We did feel that the concha itself was excellent, and would come again to get conchas - the guava concha would have been perfect if there was more guava and less whipped cream in our opinion. Overall, La Cheve was very affordable for the serving sizes, and I would be back for the ceviche, flan french toast, coffee and the conchas as long as I can get up early enough to avoid the line! read more

First I will say don't go into the expectations of being the greatest brunch spot ever because I feel that really ruined it for me. I over ordered because getting a good parking spot here is a headache at the wrong time and I don't come to the area very often anymore. Everything was just good, above average and that would be fine if I didn't get hyped up with all the social media influence. Cute restaurant and fantastic experience for sure gives it a few stars, while we were waiting in line a lady came out and gave a quick history run down on the building and restaurant which was interesting and fun to listen to. read more

What a great spot! Parking is a bit tough (small lot) but everything else was great! We popped in with our dog and they have a lovely outdoor area. Staff was super friendly. My tacos were fantastic and my husband devoured Huevos Rancheros. Was one of the best meals we had on our vacation. Will definitely be back when we're back in town! read more

Came here for brunch since I woke up early and drove to napa for coffee and pastries. It was the perfect timing. Right before 830am there wasn't a line but 5 people ahead of me. Once I got in line then everyone started coming. It was a line out the door. But it does move quick if there are empty tables. . You line up to order the food and then purchase. Then you go find a table to sit down. Since lots of empty table the line goes quick. . They bring the food to you since you will get a number after ordering. While getting to the cash register. The pastry case is next to it. They have churro croissant and churro cronut. I was overwhelmed with all the choices. The pastries didnt wow me as well. . It was a memorable experience and a unique menu with options. However the food didn't wow me. The churro French toast was good. It is different for sure. The egg Benny with Verde was just ok. The English muffin was hard to cut and tough. The meat on top was just okay. Wasn't my favorite Benny for sure. But the egg Benny sounded so good tho. Elote appetizer was just okay too, nothing wow. . Ambiance here is old style and cozy feeling like someone's home. It is pay first then sit down and they bring it to you. The food was amazing! Excellent service and friendly staff. We went on a Monday morning and still had to wait about 25 minutes to order, however the food was delivered quickly once we sat down...and it was definitely worth the wait! We sat outside and loved the rustic ambiance. Didn't like the loud car noise-perhaps an outdoor fountain to hide it would be a nice touch. All in all one of the best meals we have had! I keep coming back. Definitely one of my favorite brunch spots! Pretty busy during the weekends. You order at the counter and then you are seated. There's plenty of outside seating and some seating inside where it's definitely cozy. The staff is friendly and attentive. This last time I went we had: Chile Verde Benedicto which never fails. The Chile verde with pork is authentic and it gives the ordinary eggs Benedict a delicious twist. The rancho potatoes also pairs well with them and have always been crisped to perfection. This dish definitely had a spicy kick to it. Mulita de Chorizo was also very flavorful and the crunch of the fried tortillas gave it a nice balance. The salsa on this was perfect. Not too spicy. Mollete was also very good. The bread was so soft. Ended up taking this one home and it reheated nicely the next day. So cheesy! For pastries we enjoyed the Flan French Toast (only available on weekends), a concha, and other churro inspired pastries. All were fresh and fluffy. Our favorite was definitely the flan French toast for its rich flavor. We didn't know what to expect but it's definitely a shareable dessert. We weren't big fans of the drinks and this happens to me every time I go after I try something different. The cafe de olla was too watered down and was missing the spices that's supposed to make the cafe de olla. The hot chocolate de mama has too much of a cinnamon flavor which took away from the chocolate. The aguas frescas are too sugary in our opinion as well. Great spot! I went on a Saturday, parking was a bit tough and the line to order took about 50 minutes. It helped that one of the workers came out with a megaphone and explained how everything works and the history behind it being the oldest building in Napa. Cute little brunch place! Very rare to find good Mexican brunch spots but this one takes number 1! It's always busy here with a line out the door. You order at the counter and then they will seat you. Inside is really small with few tables but they also have an outdoor patio area as well. Food came out really quickly and it tasted amazing! I think they served me the best chilaquiles of my life! It was the perfect blend of flavors. I added chorizo which really paired nicely with the dish and there was a decent amount of eggs so it felt substantial. ( I have had chilaquiles in the past with way too many chips but this was the perfect balance) There was a line when we arrived on a weekday morning but it moved relatively fast . We maybe waited 15 minutes or so. You order at the counter and we got our food about 10 minutes later so not too long of a wait. We also got a churro cronut to share which was good but I probably wouldn't order again. My friend got the huevos rancheros which were pretty good.
