Taco salads -- absolutely delicious!
Kevin E.

This place is a delicious surprise. A classic locals taqueria that is chill and delicious. We had a couple of taco salads one with chicken mole, the other al pastor. The staff was superb -- helpful and with great recs -- and our lunch was amazing. This is a new go-to for us!

I came in craving something comforting and ended up ordering their red enchilada sauce burrito--and wow, this thing delivered. The burrito was generously stuffed, but what really made it stand out was the sauce. Burrito was fire.

Tanya's Taqueria has been cooking up some good Mexican food for some time. How lucky are the Napa locals. I hadn't been in awhile but boy I'm glad I remembered this place. They have a great selection of full Mexican meals or your standard, taco and burrito offerings but by no means is the food standard. They make great food here and the prices are fair if not great for what you receive. I love a good pastor, it's a nice marinated meat in a red sauce. Yummy. They have casual covered patio seating, but many take food to go. The person that takes the order has a voice that amplifies, reminding me of a Mexican soccer or should I say Futbol announcer, very friendly and how he remembers large complicated orders is a fete of its own.

Quick Stop at Tannya's Taqueria During one of our recent visits to Napa, we got hungry on our way back and didn't want to spend too much time in a restaurant. As we were discussing options, we came across Tannya's Taqueria. It looked nice and inviting and seemed like a good place for a quick meal. I pulled over and parked the car right next to the place. When we walked over to the front porch, we noticed they had indoor seating, too! We chose to sit outside because we had our dog with us. The owner is a very pleasant man who always has a smile on his face. We chatted a bit and placed our order. I chose a couple of tacos, Carnitas (pork), and Shredded Beef. Both were delicious. We shared a Horchata to drink, and that was tasty, too. We had to hit the road before it got too late, but we will definitely stop by again next time we're in the area. We want to explore their menu further.

Recommended by a friend in Napa. Not a great experience at all. Service was nice but didn't make up for the less than stellar food. Tortilla chips were old, stale, and so hard. Rice was still raw and crunchy. Portions were so small. Seriously? Chicken flautas were greasy. Eewww. Carne Asada tacos were dry and cold. Terrible corn tortilla shells. We asked for spicier salsa. But, we were given 2 salsa neither which was spicy. They were not busy at all but we had to wait for 30+ minutes for a easy-peasy order. Some patrons were waiting even longer. I just don't get it. Definitely not a 4.0 rating.

This was my first visit to this Mexican restaurant in napa downtown. I got to try beef tongue and beef tripe dishes which I normally do't get to try . The service was friendly and fast. The portion was good. The food tasted great. I would definitely go back !

The carne asada is great in tacos or nachos. Gem of a place with indoor and a few tables outside. Order at the window and the food is brought to the table if dining in. Parking lot or street parking makes take out an option.

My last meal before departing Napa for points south and east, my friend brought us to Tannya's. Definitely one of the least expensive meals I've had in this part of California. Which is not to say that there was any tradeoff for deliciousness. It's a taqueria so I chose tacos. They also have burritos and platters and such. But my three taco plate with beef, chicken and al pastor. Delicious authentic tacos topped with onions and cilantro and some rather spicy pickled carrots. Oh so good. Date of Reservation Saturday, June 6…read more The Food I'll start with the highlights: the food here was absolutely great. Everything our table ordered was delicious, cooked perfectly, and well-presented. The kitchen definitely knows what they are doing. The Service Unfortunately, the dining experience was really let down by how rushed we felt. Throughout the night, it felt like the front-of-house staff was on a mission to flip our table as fast as possible. Servers were constantly hovering and picking up plates while half of our group was still actively eating. It reached a point where one of my friends was practically interrogated about whether she was finished. They kept coming back to check on her plate so many times that she eventually just gave up, got annoyed, and told them to just take it away before she was even done. It's hard to enjoy great food when you feel like an inconvenience or a timer is ticking down. I'd love to come back for the flavors, but the staff needs to let guests actually breathe and enjoy their meals.

The nachos were really good, I wish I had asked for an extra side of salsa because all of the flavor/meat was on the top and the bottom of the bowl was just beans, still delicious but could have used more flavor. The chicken taquitos were also really good! We got 4 margaritas and two food items for $66 before tip, not bad for Napa! I'm not sure if the happy hour time is purely for winter but happy Hour from 11:30am-6pm is a great way to get the locals in!!

Our spicy margaritas came out first, with the perfect blend of sweet, sour, and spice. We sat outside in the sunshine, with no trouble finding a table with the large outdoor patio. The spicy margarita gave a nice cold relief to the spice from the food and I could have had another. Definitely worth the stop if you're in Napa or driving through.

Walked up and quickly placed our order. Food: Chips and Salsa - large variety of salsas so decided to add an order of chips to try the variety, verde was my personal favorite here bright, refreshing tomotillo with a little bit of jalapeno kick, the other salsas were okay Al pastor taco - solid, meat had decent seasoning but was hoping for more char but a solid Al pastor fresh pineapple was a nice touch Mushroom taco - not good, had an almost sour flavor, appreciated the cheese crust but the tart note from the mushrooms really put us off for this one Carne asada taco - fine, lightly seasoned, beef portion felt generous, salsa doing the heavy lifting for flavor but a solid choice Chicharrones taco - a bit disappointed, chicharrones wasn't super hot or crispy, was hoping this would be fresher but felt like the meat had been sitting for a while Service was fine, fast casual order at the counter and pick up your order from the pass when ready, everything else is self serve. Overall pretty disappointed by Mother's Tacos. Tried a variety pack of tacos and most under delivered given the rave reviews was expecting more. I was hoping to try the suadero but they were out so maybe braised meats are the way to go if you do visit would suggest visiting earlier cause 2:30pm seems like they food wasn't the freshest.

It's a small and casual operation - there's a large seating area behind the restaurant with self serve water. Limited parking out front, and the back lot (with the seating) also has some space for parking, but it's not hard to find parking in the surrounding area. The food here is awesome - deep flavors and genuinely a ton of craft in their work (tamales and tortillas made fresh, you can see them making it through the window by the register). The food is pretty classic, but just executed so well - I really don't think you can go wrong. My personal favorites are the mole enchiladas / tamales (gently sweet, smoky mole, not overly chocolatey and really balanced, especially with a side of pickles) and the fish tacos (GIGANTIC).

I felt it had all the components to be successful. I liked the texture of the batter. It also wasn't plain so that was nice. Good ingredients and flavors for sure. What came up short was the ratio of batter to fish. Way too much batter for the amount of fish. Also it was totally the wrong fish for the batter. Way too soft. I don't know how you eat these in the restaurant but they are a mess. If I'm paying almost twenty bucks for fish tacos. I think I might expect slightly more elegance. Menu did look very interesting. I could see coming back but the fish tacos are a pass
