The steak was cooked perfectly, and by the time I finished, there were almost not enough chips to gather all the toppings, which is exactly how you know there was the proper amount of toppings. I had a great experience at Maria's Restaurant in Napa Valley. From the moment I walked in, Sarai and Alex made me feel welcome and took excellent care of me throughout the meal. I started with a classic margarita, and it was perfectly executed--balanced, refreshing, with a properly salted rim and a clean, classic presentation. For food, I ordered the campechano with shrimp and octopus, and it was outstanding. The seafood was fresh and generous, the octopus was incredibly tender, and the shrimp were large and flavorful. It immediately reminded me of being on the coast in places like Rosarito or Ensenada--very authentic and well done. The setting is also a huge plus, especially the back patio right along the Napa River. It creates a relaxed, scenic atmosphere that really elevates the entire experience. High-Quality, casual Mexican restaurant. You won't be disappointed. They take good care of how they cook. If I had to pick one dish out of them all, I'd say Aguachiles. I circled around Napa and American Canyon looking for the best Aguachiles, and I landed back here. Best of them all. Whatever you pick, you'll probably end up reordering it every time you visit; at least for a while before you decide to finally explore the rest of the menu. The caldo had plenty of great sized shrimp (I am picky about quantity for price) with great sized vegetables (also picky about veggies being too thick/lazily cut). They getting stingy in the civiche if you're going to put it in a large container, I don't understand why they don't just charge you how much it would cost to fill up the entire container. I come here all the time and all the other times I've ever come a large is usually filled to the brim. It's $20. The last time I came I asked them if they could fill it up to the top. They told me it would be seven dollars to fill it up. I'm just having a hard time wrapping my head around what is going on with this ceviche? This is even less than what I got last time. My boyfriend and I stopped by on a Wednesday evening and from the moment we walked in, the service was great. We were greeted right away and offered the choice of indoor or outdoor seating, which we appreciated. Throughout our meal, our waiter checked in on us just enough--not overbearing, but attentive--which made the experience even better. We started off with two Micheladas--absolutely delicious and HUGE! Perfectly spiced, refreshing, and a great way to kick things off. I ordered the shrimp cocktail, and let me tell you--it was loaded with shrimp! They're generous with the portions, and the fresh avocado really made a difference. So flavorful and super authentic. My boyfriend got his usual, the chimichanga, and said it was just as good as always. Some of our other favorites here are the shrimp quesadilla and the aguachiles--both full of flavor and worth trying. Tasty lunch at Taqueria Maria in Napa today. I dined on the sunny (and shaded) front patio. There is also a patio overlooking the Napa River. Large menu and I opted for the two taco plate ($17) with two carnitas tacos, choice of beans and rice. I also added on a shrimp taco ($4.50). The carnitas was tasty and moist. However, the shrimp taco was absolutely delicious and one of the best I've had in a long time. I like how the shrimp were chopped up. Each taco also had a mild salsa on it. I am in the genetic club that thinks cilantro tastes like soap, so I often order my tacos without it if I can, hence no cilantro. The chips were fresh and crisp. The salsas were great. I also got a complimentary order of their housemade habanero salsa. The restaurant also has a full bar and NA beer options. Friendly and efficient service and I was in and out fairly quickly. I've come to this restaurant a few times and wanted to bring a guest from out of town. We all had a late lunch and still thought we'd grab a small bite (just so our guest can try some Mexican food). We ordered nachos, and burritos. Towards the end of the nachos, there was a hair on the bottom. Attached in the picture. I showed the hair to the waiter Julio. Instead of apologizing or anything he looked at it and walked away. He didn't even acknowledge it, didn't take the plate away or anything. I called another waiter and he was nice and removed the plate. I walked up to the front to pay and mentioned the hair. Julio gave me attitude and "goes well you ate most of it." I mentioned to him the hair was on the bottom, I didn't notice it until the end. He started to be rude and gave me more attitude instead of being apologetic. Then later goes fine I'll take off the charges. All we needed was acknowledgment and maybe an apology. Not that I needed any money back. My guest works in the food industry and was shocked by the behavior as well. He took off the charges then aggressively ripped the receipt and slammed the receipt and pen on the counter. I have been eating here at Taqueria Maria for a good number of years. It is a solid, reliable Mexican restaurant in a town with generally bad Mexican food. It has a large, pleasant indoor seating area (it can get loud), and some nice outdoor seating areas as well. It is usually reasonably busy, especially on weekends, and the parking lot is small. If Yelp allowed it, I would give the restaurant 3.75 stars for the food. Since I can't do that, I feel it deserves to be rounded up rather than down, especially because of the excellent customer service I received. This review is, oddly enough, not going to focus on the food but on the customer service. I have eaten in many times but usually order takeout. For this takeout order, I was physically in the restaurant, and gave them my very clear order. A tostada supreme, an enchilada combo, and extra Pico de Gallo and chips on the side (and NO sour cream!). Eventually, my order was ready, I took it home, opened it up, and it was completely wrong. As in, I had two things in the bag that I had not ordered. OK, I know, I should have checked but I watched the waitress check my bag and I assumed (sigh) that it was correct. My suspicion is that the person who picked up a bag just before me picked up my order. I hope he liked it. I called the restaurant to tell them about the mixup. They were very apologetic. The woman on the phone immediately asked if I wanted to come in and get the right order, but warned me that the kitchen was now backed up about 30 minutes. So, instead, they refunded me my full order, including the two items that I had actually received (a can of soda and the Pico de Gallo and chips). There was no discussion about a partial refund, they just immediately went with a full refund. As I said, this is a solidly reliable restaurant as far as the food goes, and some of the better Mexican food in Napa (which has, in general, pretty average Mexican food). The service is always good and, today, it was excellent. They converted an exasperated customer into one who is writing them a 4-star review. I will continue to eat here but, going forward, I will always, always look in the containers before I take the food out of the restaurant! read more

We stopped to have lunch while staying just across the street at the Napa Expo and RV. We arrived in a Tuesday at noon the restaurant was bustling. Happily, Taqueria Maria says they are dog friendly so we wanted outside seating. We had our 2 dogs (1 large 1 small) with us when I checked in. We were immediately acknowledged and after some internal discussion in Spanish, the outside patio was being washed down for the dinner patrons, we were seated alongside the river on picnic tables. Turns out this is only open on weekends, but the staff was attentive and brought out menus. What a view!!! We were brought chips and 2 different salsas quickly. The green salsa was delicious while the red was spicy and mildly hot. My husband ordered the combo plate of Chili Reyeno, Al pastor enchilada and a fish taco served with a big portion of delicious refried beans (can order black beans or pinto beans in caldo too). A generous portion of everything. The fish taco is pan fried with a light seasoning cooked to perfection! The chili relleno is stuffed with Mexican mozzarella (we think) that was delicious and the Al Pastor enchilada was seasoned wonderfully. I ordered the 2 fish taco plate. Came here a couple of weekends ago. Spent a Sunday late afternoon having dinner with my sister. I wanted two street tacos with a side of rice and beans. Searched the menu to something comparable but found nothing. Upon ordering I told the waitress what I wanted and she responded with "oh then you want a taco special" well alright then but I didn't see it on the menu. I was spaced out after she said that and forgot to mention no salsa. Tacos were good with a large amount of meat, but I only ate one cause of the spiciness. I'm a wussy lol Please tell me why when I received the bill, the taco special was more than if I ordered each separately. I raised it to the attention of our waitress and she corrected the price. It's been awhile since I dined at Taqueria Maria and so I was pleasantly surprised to see the renovated restaurant and outdoor seating. Our party of four came for dinner around 6pm on a Sunday and we were promptly seated. The chips and salsa came very fast. The green sauce was the best and red sauce too spicy for me. Our waitress was in no way going to do small talk so we went on right away to order drinks. One problem is she doesn't know how to sell. I have asked for a margarita and she asked if I wanted regular or gold. As I did not see the menu, I asked her for the difference between the two. She promptly replied.... "The price". Oh no way.... but my persistent self asked nicely... is that the only difference? Then she said the other one is better... the more expensive one... hmmm... anyways, I didn't want this to go on and told her you should probably find out the difference for next time someone asks you... I am not sure if that is going to happen. The food is ok, service is fast. I ordered enchiladas suizas (my fav!) and hubby ordered a burrito with a side of rice and beans. My husbands food came out pretty quick but while the server was setting it down he told me they were out of green sauce (suiza=green sauce) and would I like red sauce or something else. Husband's food was already there so I didn't think it made sense to order something else so I took the red sauce - not my favorite. The dish was ok - not sure how you run out of green sauce at 6:30 on a Tuesday. A few other problems. Ants. On our table the whole time. We just kept killing them but makes me wonder what's happening in the back? Then when our server brought the bill, as we were packing up our leftovers, he removed our margarita glasses. I didn't realize because I was boxing up my food but when I went to finish my drink, it was gone. I really wanted those last two sips of margarita but was kind of over it and we chose to just leave. I had a couple of shrimp tacos and a coke today. The shrimp tacos tasted fine with the added salsa I added. They chop up the shrimp in the tacos. I prefer them whole or not chopped up to the extent they are. The tacos are both colorful and flavorful. The Mexican coke you can't go wrong with. My only 2 complaints were parking very small and the restroom for such a large place in/outdoor was 1 female restroom and 1 restroom for the men. We seated ourselves and after 15 minutes a buster brought 3 waters. We never got menus. Had to ask for them. The server finally came to take our order My son ordered a Mexican beer with lime. The server brought a bottle of beer and set it down in front of him, no glass, no lime. Had to ask for it twice. We ordered and got our food which was not hot! Our dinner plates were never cleared and we had to ask for the check. So disappointed, we paid over $90.00 to be ignored and lukewarm food. This is my husband's favorite taqueria in Napa. It has its own small parking lot, but plenty of street parking. There's indoor and outdoor seating with a nice ambience. For lunch today, he got the super steak nachos and I got two shrimp tacos. Our total was $24. Not bad for a sit-down lunch in Napa.
