En route home from Napa after a work conference. Sick of hotel food... so did a Yelp search for what was good, cheap and quick nearby. I'm so glad I did. At first, I thought I'd just pulled up to a supermarket... what's going on here? But it soon became clear this was both a supermarket AND a taqueria. I wasn't sure this made sense. This is my neighborhood burrito place! I almost hate to blow it up because it is still kind of a hidden gem that a lot of people don't know about, but it needs to be shared! The super burritos are BIG and tasty. What I like, is that they make their burritos authentically, by not adding lettuce or shredded cabbage as a filler, but rather just meat, beans, rice, sourcream, and fresh made pico de gallo. The staff is extremely friendly and the choices are fairly abundant. Every time I go in, I see them preparing components freshly, so you know you are getting fresh, quality ingredients in your burritos (which you can't say about all places). The nachos are also good and filling. If you haven't tried this place, I highly recommend it as you may just never go back to your old spot again. When I bit into my Ceviche tostada, I felt my tooth crack and then this is what I found in my tostada. The food was truly delicious. But I'm trying to figure out how the guy continue to make his ceviche when he's obviously missing a part of his machinery. They didn't seem to care. I wasn't calling because I was going to sue anybody or ask them to pay for the $780 repair now to my tooth. Absolutely the best pork chile verde in the whole of Napa Valley and possibly California. The cut of pork they use are decent hefty pieces, not full of fat like other taquerias. Believe me as I've lived in LA before and had some pretty epic Mexican food there. My go to order is always the chile verde burrito and sometimes (more often than not), I'll add on a take out portion of just the chile verde. I'll get the large deli sized container where it's priced by weight. It'll last me several meals at home - make your own burrito, taco, sandwich, whatever. read more

Also known as the Economy Market, this place is my go to spot when I'm craving Mexican food during the work week. The staff here has always been friendly to me. The taqueria is inside the actual market. The market is perfect for getting fresh veggies, marinated meats, and some items that you would only find in a Mexican market. Back to the taqueria...I normally order their mini tacos, and every once in a while a super burrito. Also if you're in the mood for ceviche, they have a nice spicy ceviche. Also, their guacamole is very good as well. There's so many things to try, but I'm not too familiar with the other foods. Maybe one day I'll try something new. read more

I gave this place two chances, this is a review in the taqueria not the super market. First time I went in I wanted to order a burrito bowl, aka a burrito in a bowl without a tortilla. I asked for one with grilled chicken no sour cream and I also requested guacamole. What came out was a to go box with tortillas, retried beans, pico de gallo covered in sour cream and shredded chicken. Ok.... no grilled chicken, no guacamole, but a ton of sour cream on the pico. Figured I would give them another shot today. I went and ordered the BBQ Azada burrito, and asked to add guacamole (they wrote it down). Took my burrito back and ate it. The carne asada was not BBQ'd, there was no guacamole and I pulled out 5-6 inedible chewy fat globules about the size of a small marble. If this is the "steak" they use for their asada (it appeared to almost be ground beef) this establishment should be ashamed of itself. That's the last time I come here, I'd go to Chipotle up the street any day over this place. Better quality ingredients and when I ask for guacamole, they put on guacamole. It's a shame I was hoping this would be my new go to for burritos in Napa. Onto the next one I guess. read more

Viva La Revolucion! Taqueria Zapata is hidden within Economy Market. It has reasonable prices, and surprisingly reasonable parking. It's a popular spot for the nearby community college&employees of neighboring Napa State Hospital. The market is a pleasant, clean place, and the taqueria complements it. I tend to judge taquerias by their vegetarian/vegan offerings. If they can't be trusted with veggies, how can they be entrusted with meat&seafood? Their vegetarian vegetable burrito is excellent, teeming with flavor. Along with Azteca Market (Napa&St. Helena), they have the best vegetable burritos in town. They also have a great salsa bar... so if you want to hit the bar. It IS fast food at the taqueria. Since there's no real dining area, it's best for takeout. We went for dinner and breakfast the next morning because it was so awesome. At first glance, this place looks like a small convenience store... but walk in and find the BEST BREAKFAST BURRITO EVAHH! I am from Napa originally, but moved to Sacramento and really hadn't been back for years. However, I've been hanging around a lot lately, and because of that, one thing that I needed to do was find a go-to place for cheap and amazing street tacos (shown on the menu here as mini tacos). With all of the small places to choose from in Napa, I was getting a bit distressed, as none of them were really working out for me so well. Until I decided to try this place... I love food spots tucked in little markets or tiny spaces, and this is situated in the back of an impressive-looking Mexican market. As is usually the case at places like this, you order your food where they prepare it, and pay at the register in front while it is being made. I have only had chicken tacos here (other meat options are available), but from that limited experience, I can say with confidence that you'll be hard pressed to find better in Napa. Served with a radish (as they should be), the beauty is in the flavorful simplicity of these. And flavorful they are! The homemade chips are also fantastic and thick, and the salsa is definitely good (not the BEST I've ever had, but I have no complaints). I will be returning here A LOT for these tacos. I have also had a pupusa de quesillo (Cheese pupusa) here which was very good, and it came with a very satisfyingly spicy curtido on the side. I would definitely order this again, as well. I also look forward to trying other items on their menu! Please note that there aren't tables here, so understand that you'll be eating standing (or sitting on the bench) outside, in your vehicle, or taking your meal somewhere else. Ordered the super pastor burrito. Excellent value but not without its issues. The wrap was grilled with charred bits and a lovely smokey hint to it. The biggest issue I had was with the pastor. It was the minced/finely cubed pork with heavy red coloring. I found it to be overly salty and a bit sweeter, especially for a bbq styled meat. My job takes me all over the Northern California and I make it a point to explore taquerias wherever I go. I would rate the pastor towards the bottom of the pile but a solid 3 stars. It was decent, but it's not my pastor preparation preference. Another ding for the no avocado in the super burrito. Be sure to park in the shade as here's no place to sit and eat except for a wooden bench in the front. That said, the salsa habanero was amazing and the food to price ratio was great. I'm definitely coming back here next time I'm in Napa, only I'll be going for carne asada or carnitas read more

Not only did they run out of grilled chicken, but the Al pastor super burrito is so salty that it's borderline inedible. I ate half and couldn't continue every after some water. My second and last time at this place. First time my food was OK, just OK and nothing special. This second time was the marking to never spend my money or time here. Ordered a regular Chicken Mole Burrito. Meat was super dry and cardboard taste like, mole has no taste neither consistency, burrito was filled with dry, old rice hard as sand. If you ask for lime or any other condiments that are normally at no extra change they wanted to charge extra. Definitely don't recommend and will never return. read more

This is another little hidden taqueria inside a Mexican grocery store. These folks make very good tacos (my fave there so far) and I've heard a co-worker say the burritos are delicious. A very small Mexican market, they were out of their famous "mole" burrito. We won't be back just for that reason, if you can't count on a menu item and then pretend to not understand what I am saying till I point it out on the menu then you don't want my business. My wife and I had the super burrito with asada, great taste, very large, we felt full after eating and we are of the larger foodie size. You must order at the back food register then take your tag to the front register to pay and get it stamped paid. Then take it back and they make it . A lot of work and playing the I don't understand you thing in the beginning for us to return. What a disappointment. As way of suggestions 1. One register purchase and use the back one were the menu is. 2. If you have a menu item that all the reviews recommend keep that in stock or available for all hours. 3. 5 tacos for $5 is a treat and a formidable plate. Chicken in just about all Mexican restaurants in USA is just insipid, but I knew there was something different about Zapata's. I think these have been grilled over wood or charcoal, then braised in some golden colored stock; very tasty. Pastor- good balance of cinnamon, cloves (I think), and chile. All others just straight up good. Seating is poor- a few tables on the sidewalk that get direct sunlight in the afternoon. This is for take-out or eating in your car. read more
