This is the worst MVD I have ever been to. Poorly managed and unproductive organization. There are no chairs for waiting. They have one employee working each line of 30+ people. Their clerks have no sense of urgency at all. I have honestly never seen people working so slowly, it looks almost intentional. I STOOD in line for almost 2 hours before I got to speak with someone. This location is filthy. I had called to ensure that I had everything necessary to change a title. First I was directed to wait in a short line for 20 minutes. When I got to the head of the line I was just given a number ticket then told to stand in a winding, very lengthy line. 75 minutes later, yes, 75 minutes after standing the entire time in line I was told that I did not, in fact, have the necessary paperwork. "Well, I don't know who you talked to." Was my answer. No apology, no sympathy for 1) the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing there, or 2) the excessively long wait standing (NO SITTING available). This small, clean and efficient MVD location is hidden behind the water slide park. The young lady who took care of me was knowledgeable and helpful. I showed up unannounced on a Wednesday at noon, and was out of there with my vehicle title in 30 minutes. Awesome! read more

I had the absolute worst experience while being "helped" by Breann. I went in to finish processing my title, and was told to bring in an emissions test about a week before. Immediately Breann was rude and said they don't have my letter from my credit union, which I knew was a lie. Then she stated the formatting was incorrect and that I had to have my credit union reformat the letter, which is their only approved and official letter for title processing. When I asked to speak with someone else she said she already talked to a manager so I'm not allowed to. Then she threatened to return the letter to my credit union if I didn't get a new letter by the end of the week. The entire experience was awful and her condescending attitude was unnecessary. After speaking with my credit union, I knew the letter could not be reformatted and went into the DMV the following day with zero changes other then the clerk that assisted me. I have a 1978 Puch Maxi. This is a moped. It's not a motorcycle but still needs a license plate and registration. The registration is different than motorcycles, because mopeds have pedals. Like a bike. They are a MOtorcycle with PEDals. Get it. A MO PED. It's fun. To be a proper moped, in the eyes of the gub'ment, the engine must be 50cc or less (contrasted with my 1964 Ford Galaxy with 4942 cc) and may not exceed 25mph. This means you don't have to have a motorcycle license. You might say there is an element of danger to going less than 25 mph on normal city streets. Those people would probably be correct. Might I note that 45 is a speed _limit_, not a speed requirement. Right. The MVD on Larkspur doesn't see Mopeds very often and the employee helping me needed to get the assistant of two others looking over her shoulder and the opinions of 2 others. It seemed complicated. I can understand, since forms are forms and I hate seeing those very rare cases and forgetting about which form to use. These things happen. Overall a good experience and I was in and out _pretty_ quickly. They were all very nice. xxx I also have to add this. My gf was finally ready to update her license, and after recently getting her hair did, we headed to the same MVD where my Moped had started his new life. After waiting a short while for our number to be called, I had nature call. Screaming would be more appropriate. You know those times you've been to the rest stop and the bathroom smells ungodly? Or you've been to see a Triple A baseball team at the community ballpark and it's smelled like wretched garbage and feces? I don't like public restrooms. I simply don't. I like privacy. I like enjoying my time, my private time, spending those moments to reflect peacefully. I don't like being away from home, but there are times when circumstance necessitates that I grin and bear it. I guessed the MVD would be a wretched place. 409 surface cleaner and Clorox bathroom poison will only kill so much bacteria before it loses the war. These things happen. They especially happen at the MVD on Larkspur. I now know why these places smell so bad. The rest stop, the ballpark, the one at the city park. The only reason anyone ever uses those restrooms is when they must. A wretch shit leads one to use wretched shitters. 4 stars for a good experience despite the circumstance, and getting Bonnie G's Driver's License done quickly and with a great photo. Minus 1 star for forcing me to learn a life lesson about public restrooms before I should have needed to learn it. Which should be never. read more

I paid for both tests and halfway through my written a lady comes in the room and tells me all the road test openings were full. I instantly walked out of the room and asked for a refund (because I paid for both tests, not just one) and they told me they couldn't do it because I already started testing. the people who work here are LIARS and DISRESPECTFUL TO THE PEOPLE THERE FOR HELP. I've been to the DMV in CA, ND, and NC and this was by far the most friendly, efficient, and painless. When you come from another state, you don't have to take a written test, and I didn't even have to take an eye test. Registering my 2008 vehicle, tags, and driver's license was $145, the cheapest I have ever paid. The people are calm, friendly, patient and helpful, and the place is clean and well-organized. Kudos to them. I went on a Tuesday at noon and spent about 40 minutes there; it was not packed but it was busy with customers. read more

As far as DMV/MVDs go, I truly believe that 90% of the time people come away disgruntled because they don't prepare their own stuff before going there. I had all my stuff ready to go for both a new AZ license and title and registration for both my car and motorcycle. I walked out the door at 8:30AM (opens at 8AM). This on a Friday too! OK no one likes to have to come into the Motor Vehicles but this location by far is the best location if you need to come to a mvd office to handle your beezkneez !! Usually clean sometimes there are lots of kids running like their parents have decided to just leave them behind but that's really the only CON when your weighing out your options for choosing this location overall. Always busy but this location is quick so that tells you the employees know what they are doing... best to come early and the only other bad issue with this location is during the summer it tends to be super muggy and hot inside with the amount of people in the building so wear deodorant and at times I really wish I had traveled with mine to help everyone out eveyone in the building... just sayn .... So the MVD started using an online wait time. I just have to say whatever formula they are using it needs to be massaged back into reality. The magical powers of the MVD to dissolve minutes into oblivion still reigns supreme. When I arrived after checking in I looked at the time and it said 10 minutes for registration. After sitting for 30 minutes and checking about every 5 minutes I have watched the wait times increase to now 33 minutes. I'm by the check in and listening to the lady tell people it's a 20 minute wait while online is up to 33 minutes now. I had a wonderful experience today morning. There was a standing line however weather is pleasant and with Ac not a problem at all. From information desk , counter 18 for photo and counter 1 sweet sweet lady . Everything went fine. That sweet lady who sits at Counter no 1 who scans your old driver license and your visa or residence is so so good , very human and incredible person at DMV Tempe, I had a convo with the same lady when I moved to Az. I only give 1 star because it's not possible to do a 0. They have a whole 5 people maybe working behind the counter. This is our 2nd time in here because they messed up the dl. They were supposed to renew but instead just did a duplicate. What complete idiots they have working here. It's a complete waste of time. They should have done it right the first time. Oh dear God. This place is amazing. I don't know, maybe I have just been scarred horribly by the extreme lines/waits I had to deal with at the DMVs all over California since I turned 16. Nobody in Arizona can complain about this place, if you do, you are spoiled. Every visit I have ever had here, I am in in out pretty fast, on a busy day it was (maybe) 30 minutes (fastest was probably 10 min). I've lost my ID so many times, in Vegas and other catastrophes, that this MVD is like my second home. They are always so friendly and chatty with me, I feel like I'm dealing with people I know. I have heard stories from a number of staff members that are super interesting and funny. I've registered my car here which went seamlessly without any problems or delays. A DMV experience that wasn't totally crazy and only took 15 minutes? I didn't even know that existed! I came in here to get an Arizona drivers license. Being from California, I expected that it was going to take forever. Boy was I wrong. I walked in and was helped right away. It took a little bit just to get all my paperwork done and then I went to take my picture. They printed my ID out right then and there. Yes Californians you heard me: RIGHT THEN AND THERE. No two to three week waiting period before receiving it in the mail. It was SO nice. Oh and the ladies were super friendly, another thing that never happens at California DMVs. I remember the days when you had to practically take a day off of work to go to the DMV. I've visited two DMV's in the past month and have been more than pleased with the service provided, and the time I spent taking care of the issue. At this location, I arrived at about 8:15 on a Monday, waiting maybe 10 minutes to get called, and was out the door by 8:45. This included taking care of paperwork and getting a new license. Not only were the employees efficient, they were actually very friendly and helpful. It is apparent that the DMV has worked very hard in the past few years to improve their tarnished image... I recently moved back to Az from NYC I haven't ben to this location maybe 10 years. I gota say this motor vehicle location is packed! Expect to wait atleast 1 hr. Only if your going during the afternoon. I dont know much about the morning traffic. But if your in a hurry I always go to the 3rd party mvd location near raintree and the 101. They changed my new york plates and registration less than 15 minutes. Dont think iam coming back to this location because I like my service to be done quick I don't got free time to be waiting around for these slow ass workers. So I hate the DMV and barely have time to squeeze anything in before work at 10. I came in expecting a huge line early in the morning. I was only in line for a few minutes and immediately took an eye test for my license. I was called to the picture area before even touching up my makeup. It was only a little while before they processed my paperwork and printed out my temp ID. Can't believe how clean and organized it is, plus the employees are actually cheerful and helpful! IN SHOCK, my previous experience was with the main mvds in west valley where multi hour waits were common I had to get a car registered, was in and out in 20 minutes, the whole time there was an employee working the lines making sure people had what they needed , directing to open windows a totally impressive experience, I live in west valley but will do further business here read more

For a government run facility it is fairly efficient. Not terribly busy and usually helpful agents here. Get here by 730a and you can get out about 10 minutes after they open at 8a. For those unusual or difficult transaction I always come here. read more

We arrived at 4:15PM to renew a drivers permit. A fairly simple transaction we thought! The 1st thing we noticed was that they removed most of the chairs and replaced them with long lines of people standing! What???? It was extremely crowded and we waited in the 1st line about 45 minutes. Then we were sent to another line and waited about an hour. When I asked a supervisor why they were closing windows instead of helping customers, he replied that they were short staffed and have an issue with paying people overtime. So instead of taking people who have been STANDING in line for over an hour and a half, they started closing windows. Please note that there were about 30-40 people that came in after us and by the time we were finally called, there were only 5 people waiting behind us. When I asked how everyone passed us, the supervisor said that a few agents were inexperienced and could only service certain lines. Be prepared to wait and wear comfortable shoes!!! read more

After THREE visits to the Larkspur location, I finally completed my task..to renew my drivers license. Because I neglected to check requirements to get the new Federal/Travel license, I showed up without the proper documents. Each time, I was greeted and directed to the correct line. The gentleman who takes the photo (I did it all three times), is serious, but efficient. He even cracked a smile. I spent no more than 8 minutes in the line to be served by one of the agents. Somehow each time, LaDawn was my agent. What a delight she is!! A smile, giggles, friendly to me and her co-workers and efficient. All three times she was so pleasant...even the first two times when I was irritated when she told me I did not have the proper docs. A visit to MVD is never an experience we look forward to, but this place has it figured out. They are efficient, business-like and as friendly as they can be considering their jobs are rather mundane. It is rather sad, however, that Arizona being Arizona, the building is very institutional feeling. It is not a nice place in which to work. I would dread going into that building every single day if I worked there. Why can we not spruce up some of these places where our public servants spend long boring hours often dealing with disgruntled patrons?? Come on, a little bright color a few pics on the walls would go a long way in making this little sterile place more welcoming.
