I've been having issues with the starter in my BMW. I've worked in the auto industry for about 8 years and have been to all the local dealerships. This place was recommended to me by a body shop owner who also owns a BMW. I can tell you that the labor rate at dealerships is high and they usually take a long time to look at your car as well as replacing all related components to make sure the issues are addressed. You're dealership may also recommend services that aren't needed. Steve explained that rather than spending the time disassembling and diagnosing the problem, it's better to replace the ignition switch for less than 300$. I agreed. Steve said that if this doesn't work that the control module for the ignition may be the problem. I was interested in getting a spare key as well. Steve recommended waiting to make sure the issue was addressed before duplicating the key and possibly creating another issue. I agreed. The issue with the starter persisted so I brought the car back to replace the control module and duplicate the key. The new key and starter are now working perfectly. They were very friendly and knowledgeable. I appreciate that they didn't recommend any unnecessary services or escalate my bill with unnecessary labor. My used Z4 may have been a bad decision, but bringing it to Motor Works West for repairs was the right choice. Unfortunately I will have to go back to get my convertible top replaced and I recommend you bring your BMW to them as well. read more

I have used this shop a few times over the years for my 2011 Bmw X3. I can tell you they are well qualified, very honest & have great pricing. Numerous times I have come from the dealer where they tell me long list of costly work needed & the guys at Motor Works have inspected the car & either told me no work was actually needed & sent me on my way, or found that only some things were needed & then took care of the issues & at a much better price. Something was wrong. The sedan just didn't feel right on acceleration. A late afternoon call from home to Motor Works West brought a response "Bring it in first thing tomorrow and we'll look at it right away." The next day diagnostic found the problem immediately. This was a great shop when Dave ran it, but he retired. Steve, the new owner is rude, unprofessional and unwilling to help customers. I had my 318i towed in to diagnose a starting problem. Steve thought there was going to be a snowstorm later that day (we got 1/2" of snow), so he ordered me to remove it from the lot. I had to pay for another tow to a different garage. read more

I had parked my 2012 BMW M3 on a street in Wyckoff and when I went to leave, it would not start. I had read some good reviews about Motor Works West on-line, so I had my M3 towed in there. They diagnosed the problem as the starter, gave me an estimate for the job, and kept me advised on the status of the repair. I had my car at the dealer for a recall and was told I need a bunch of work on my car. I called motor works west and they told me to bring the car in so they can check it out. Steve went over the whole car with me and did not need any of the work and was very honest with me. The only work that was needed was tires that was not even brought up about at the dealership. They were able to replace the tire at very good price. I Recommend them to anyone with a Bmw. Great service! read more
