Got hair cut here for the first time. The service was great the barber was super nice.

I took my 8yo son to this barber the week before school started. The place had good reviews and was clean and looked like a typical barber shop. We're a little into the cut and I'm chit chatting with the barber and as we're talking about where we're from and grew up, I tell him my husband is from a different country. He proceeds to say to me- "oh. I know like a lot of people don't like people from that country". To which I say "oh, uh hmm" because I was confused and my brain could not understand why someone who I am giving my business to, would say such a rude comment to me, in front of my son, who is half from this country! What in the actual world?! Why would ANYONE say this to a customer? I don't care what your opinion is regarding the country where my husband is from, but you keep that unprofessional opinion to yourself. I will absolutely not be visiting this place again. read more

Mo does a consistently great job. For the last few years, he has been my go-to barber for a simple fade and trim. He is always meticulous and attentive. His focus on the fade really makes him stand out. I have never had a barber focus so intently while cutting my hair. First time here and I got a pretty simple haircut: mid fade on the sides and clean up on the top for a combover. Mo is a nice guy and this haircut was simple but definitely better than other haircuts I've gotten. I came twenty minutes before opening and was fourth in line so the wait was about an hour or more. The pricing is kind of expensive if you want a fade or something special (25$), but it's 18$ before tip for a regular cut with student ID. I will still rate 5 stars because the pricing is pretty average. As for the wait time, it can definitely get too long if you show up later in the day so it's up to you if you wanna wait for a good haircut here or go somewhere else haha. I would try to go early if possible because it seems like many other barbershops in Davis do not have good reviews. read more

Had my cut with Carlos and it's definitely 5 stars. Called beforehand since I had read a couple of reviews regarding the wait time and then walked there to find them ready to go (I'd always recommend calling before so you can figure out what times are better for walk-ins). I have to admit I did not make it easy for Carlos as I had no idea of what I wanted, but after asking for his opinion he gave me a couple of great suggestions and we went with that. The cut was fast (but not rushed), convo was great and I left there definitely satisfied. Price for a regular cut was $35. read more

Overall, they're skilled barbers but so sloooooooow. I've been here a few times not but I'm not going to anymore. The wait can be over an hour and half, even with multiple people working. The last time I went the owners wife tried to rip me off by charging a higher price than what I normally pay. I've decided to move on as their quality isn't worth waiting for 2 Update: The owner sent me a mean message telling me that his wife did not rip me off. When I normally pay $18, and she says $30, then there's an issue. He told me to go to other barber shops, so I encourage you too! read more

I should've confirmed their prices before I had the haircut done This is my first time ever going to Motown barbershop. The guy who cut my hair was a very cool guy (Carlos), and we had some nice conversation. All I had done was a basic haircut, and had him cut down the beard a bit. Nothing fancy, no special styling. Really simple, and I don't have a lot of hair. Only took about 20 minutes I think. I had brought $40 cash with me thinking that I would leave the guy a $5 to $10 tip. I figured there was no way a simple hair/beard cut could be more than $30-35 maximum. After the haircut, I asked him how much it would be, and he said it would be $55! I was shocked! $55 for a simple haircut and beard trim! Never in my life has it cost me anywhere near that much for a basic haircut and beard trim. I have the exact same thing done that he did for $20-$25 at other barbershops. I ran to the ATM to get another $20, and let him keep all of it ($60 total, with a $5 tip). This will have to be the last time I will go to this barbershop though. No disrespect to the barber, he was cool, and he did a decent job, but $55 was just too much imho. read more

Ohhhhh heeeeeck no...I was a barber for 5 years and a stylist for 10! Sent my husband here for a head shave and a clean up job on his beard since i didn't have the time...One of the employees shaved his head (000 all over), no shampoo, and shaved his beard down to his damn earlobes...and guess how much they charged....45 dollars!! Never again. Maybe the owner is worth 45 bucks but he better train his employees a lot better for that amount! read more

Apparently you can get $25 fades and a $40 head shave with clippers at the same shop. Went in to get my head buzzed and asked to not leave my beard blocked off but to fade it in a little. I was in the chair for two rounds of the the Ruiz fight ( which could be heard but the tv in front of me was off) and it cost me $45. What a joke lol read more

Came here twice not returning. Here is why. First off mo is a good barber no doubt about that. First visit was fine. Second visit someone else cut my hair and did a ok job.. nothing great. Proceeded to charge 20 bucks for trimming my beard. I don't even have a beard it's more like stubble. Never again am I coming to Motown. I came to this place because of the yelp reviews and I regret it. Not only did I wait for nearly 3 hours for my haircut but the haircut itself was a mess. I showed a picture of what I wanted yet the outcome was the complete opposite. The top is crooked and untameable and way out of shape and the sides and back were cut way too short. I literally don't know what to do to fix this horrendous thing they called a haircut. If I had known that this "haircut" would be a fail I wouldve not gotten one in the first place or just would've headed down to olive drive. The way it was styled hid all the imperfections but once I got home I was met with disaster. I am extremely disappointed and unless some sort of repayment is made by Motown , I will be taking my business elsewhere. For reference , I got my hair done by Ben. If there were a "No Star" I would select that. I wanted to try this shop for my son as it is closer to home. Waited 40 minutes while two people before us were served. No problem. But at no time did either barber even look our way. It was like we were ghosts. After the older man finally finished the head he had been working on the whole time, he spent another 5 minutes arranging stuff at the cash desk. That is when the energy of the place overwhelmed me and I had to walk out. Customer service and kindness to potential new clients - wholly lacking. There name is misplaced. This place is not worthy of the name Motown. For the price they charge which is higher than most men's hair cuts, you'd think a greeting or recognition of some sort would be included in the price. I normally exclusively go here to get my hair cuts but they're separated since I have to work full time and school full time and time is limited. I always knew the wait time for this place is insane but it's worth to me and I've never had to wait longer than 2 hours but today was something wild. I put my name at 11 and came back at 12:30. I still had 5 people before so I decided to just wait it out. One of the guys goes on his break and I'm like okay everyone needs to take their lunch especially on a busy day like this. He gets back (Alex), then him and Mo start mowing down the list hella quick and I checked again and only had one person before me. BEST BARBERS IN TOWN!!! I really wish I'd found this place sooner. I've been to almost all the barbershops over the past 3 years I have been in Davis and I haven't found one that can stick with until now. This place is run by nice, honest people who are absolutely great at cutting hair. When I first walked in, I noticed how clean and well put together the shop is. I was immediately greeted by Mo with a friendly handshake and introduction before he proceeded to cut my hair. Unlike the other barbers I had gone to over the years, Mo really understood how I wanted my hair cut. Not only that he was able to cut my hair just how I liked it, he actually TOOK HIS TIME cutting my hair to make sure I look good. To top it all off, they gave me the student discount (10 dollar haircut) even though I had forgotten my ID. This place has earned every star and every good review given to them. The waits will always be half an hour to at least 2 hours, BUT I promise it's worth! The customer service and environment they provide make the wait worthwhile! Best barbershop in Davis, hands down. I've had my hair cut at most of them in the area, and this is by far the best. Clean, professional, and (most importantly) the best cuts. I used to go to Olive Drive, but was unimpressed by their recent drop in quality and service. This place has proved to be a far better replacement. You never have to worry about which barber you get, because all of them have given me a great cut. PRO TIPS: Arrive early and leave yourself some time! This place is pretty much always busy, and you cannot call ahead. However, I think this reflects the quality, detail, and popularity of this place. Also, bring your student ID (if you have one).
