Went in and tried explaining how I want my sides cut and the barber (I won't name anyone) cut me off and just kept asking what number I wanted--not giving me the chance to explain the cut I wanted or show a video of a haircut I wanted to get. While still a solid haircut, it was NOT what I wanted. When brought up to them, it didn't really feel like I was being heard either. Nothing against the barber personally, I just think that a smidge more focus on the customer would improve the experience greatly. Hope y'all have a good one read more

9/7 update: After writing this review, I have read many reviews on Yelp and Google map and apparently, people are having problems with the shop owner, Lily. Therefore, I decide to include several screenshots from those reviews to prove that I'm telling the truth. You may wonder why I'm taking this so serious? Well coz I don't think this lady deserve to do business with her ignorant attitude towards other students like us. It is my responsibility to speak out and spread the truth to prevent other people from having their hair ruined and money wasted. (I'm an INFP so that pretty much explains why I am here spending time on writing this review) ---------- The original review------------ *This review is based the the true haircut experiences and there is no any bias in the review* I am a current UCD student and have been to this barber shop for a year now with probably 10+ hair cuts done here. The reason I'm giving this place with only one star is because of the bad experience dealing with the store owner. I will explain my reasons to you to show why you don't want to go to this place for your next hair cut 1. The shop owner (I guess her name is Lylie?) is not professional at all. She has cut my hair three times but she never did it right. Im not a super picky person you know but apparently she can only cut one hair style (I won't even called it a style tho) All she did was shaving all your side and back and spraying tons of water on your top and then cut it WITHIN 10 MINS. I walked in the shop while there was another customers being served by another barber. Ten ministers later I walked out of the shop with a super ugly hair cut while that barber was still cutting the guys' hair. Yes you aren't reading wrong, she would only spent ten minutes on your hair and charge you $14 plus tips for such an haircut. I could definitely do better than her since she just shaved all your hair with the shaver. 2. She is impatient and don't want to talk to you or try to understand your needs for your haircut (unless you are white) This just happens to me last time, she spent all the time chatting (or flirting?) with a married white guy (there were many people in the store and we all felt awkward that no one talked during the time they talked while she was ruining my hair at the same time) in the store while cutting my hair. This time she spent more than twenty minutes but she just basically kept cutting my hair shorter and shorter and at the end I almost became a bold. She doesn't give a **** with your hair and once there are white guys or other customers waiting, you will have your hair screw up 100% for sure. I wrote up this review based on my personal experiences for whole past year and I am totally done with this barber shop. All my words are true so I am not afraid being questioned. Although other barbers are nice ladies but I'm not going back anymore due to those upsetting situations I was in. The bottom line is: Just totally avoid this place if you don't wanna deal with those situations. Save your money and save your hair (oh and confidence)! read more

I'll be honest, I was a little hesitant going into this shop, but the older asian gentleman that cut my hair was extremely detail oriented and did quite a nice job. He spent almost 15-20mins just working on my fade and I've never had someone spend that long. I'll definitely give this place another opportunity and see how they do again in the future. Overall, I think Olive Drive Barber Shop is the best place in Davis for men's cuts. It's $12 with student ID, throw in a few for tip and you got a decent fade for $15 which is a steal. You might be able to get a better quality cut elsewhere but since I'm not huge into styling my hair, it gets the job done. The barbers aren't super talkative, they keep it short and to the point (good or bad depending on what you're looking for). Usually it only takes like 7 minutes to finish, but sometimes it feels like they're rushing you. There definitely is a long wait on weekends when school is in session. read more
