They got him in the chair and ready to go, and when they looked more closely at his texture which is 3B/3C, they said they didn't have time to cut his hair. I know there isn't much diversity in Davis aside from the college students but it shows how little Davis businesses interact with black and mixed folks. Anyhow, super rude and unprofessional... Like way to make a young child feel bad about themselves! What kind of business sends people away? They are either prejudice or lazy as hell. If you're looking for a new barber, look no further. I recently moved back to the area and needed a cut bad. I checked all the local spots in yelp and noticed lots of good reviews from Razor's Edge so I gave them a shot. I tired walking in first but the team was booked solid, o called a few days later, the team was still pretty booked but luckily for me, there was 2 spots open the following day. Until my recent move, I had been going to the same lady for over 20-years. I had a couple photos of the type of cut I wanted, I showed them to Sukh and after a minute he got down to business. He moves quickly but not rushed, he's just really good at his craft. We chatted it up while he cut my hair and after what seemed like just a few minutes, he was finishing up and having me look my new cut which was great. Great barber shop! I have been to every barber shop in Davis, and Razor's Edge was the last one I tried because it is tucked away and less visible from the street. It is was easily the best experience out of all them. They are by appointment only, because they have a steady stream of regular customers and keep a full schedule. ABSOLUTELY AVOID THIS PLACE! I come inside hoping for a haircut for grad pics and he doesn't even greet me. I came here because the wait time was supposedly shorter than Motown. I walked inside and there was only 1 person ahead of me. The barber takes about 1 whole hour to cut the person. Mind you, the person in front of me was an older gentleman (probably 60s) and he doesn't have much hair so I honestly don't see how it could take so long. Anyway, so it's my turn and I greet him saying hey. Still doesn't even greet me. I sit down, he asks me what I want. I told him I wanted a combover with a fade up on the side with a 0 to 1. He looks at me and goes "why's your hair like this? Does your hair usually overlap?" I told him "I'm not sure, pretty sure it doesn't? Whoever cut my hair in the past did that". He responds "your hair design doesnt leave a good taste in my palette." So I asked him "so wsp? Are you going to be able to cut it?" And he says "maybe, I'll try." What kind of comments are those??? What kind of barber doesn't know how to cut hair when provided the instructions? Anyway, this dude doesn't even cut my hair correctly and nor is it straight. Reading his Yelp reviews makes me think the barber had good days and bad days. I think I went on a bad day. My cut was rushed, and I could tell he didn't like his job. It was bad hearing about how he didn't like cutting hair, but it was worse after getting an unfinished and rushed hair cut. Reading his 1 star reviews makes me want to avoid this place again. He complained at the end how has sick listening to his own customers haircut preferences FOR THERE OWN CUT. It sounded like he was about to quit his job that day. I can't believe this dude.. this was one of the weirdest experiences of my life omg. This guy is extremely disrespectful and is inconsiderate. He legit has a toxic and disgusting energy, when I walked in I felt like something negative was hovering over me. He was talking foul about the people in town! He told me that he hates the students and that they suck and he said that they're little f***kers and wish they didn't exist, I asked him if he can give me a razor fade and he made a big deal about how it would take up all of his time, he also said that he only cuts whites and Asian and that he wouldn't need to perform razor fades for that reason. Honestly the best barber to get the bang for your buck. This barber does appointments only which will take 20 seconds to do over the phone. You want to get there early so you don't waste each others time. Charges $25 per cut and finishes in 20 min with a great result. You won't have deep conversations with Sukh, but you'll be in and out quickly with what you need. He usually works with medium/short hair, if you want a complicated haircut with longer hair this isn't the place to go. read more

He started by asking my name, I told him my name and he said "no appointments, you just walked in?" Probably the only legit barber left in Davis. I've only recently started coming to this guy, and I always walk out satisfied feeling good about the way I look. Sukh is a great barber. He's fast, and he truly cares about how you look before you walk out his shop. He's a super nice guy, and he's always willing to stay late if people come right before he closes. The place is super clean, which is a big plus for me because it's a sanitary and hygiene issue for me. It would be great if he had another barber who can line up in the shop since there aren't any barbers like that in Davis anymore, from my recollection. Other than that, love this place! read more

So I was walking around Davis looking for a barber and there are some good suggestions via yelp but man... I don't know about those places but I found no comfort walking in to those other places. Literally something came up at every barber shop I walked into that completely discouraged me. So I finally ended up at this place and I definitely am glad I came here. I really like the haircut I ended up with and had good conversation with him. There was a small wait since he seems to be running it solo -- to my knowledge -- but worth the wait. Also, cash only. That being said, don't expect this top notch customer service. He doesn't need you as much as you need him, and I have come to believe that. He gets plenty of regulars and I want to be his regular as well. The best part is that he communicates REALLY WELL regarding hair knowledge and what you need/want. That being said, make sure you know what you are talking about with your haircut. No barber can give you this dream haircut if you can't communicate with them. I came in here with my boyfriend who really needed a haircut. The positives: -We were seen right away. No waiting. -Not too expensive. It was 20 dollars with a tip. -Haircut turned out nice and professional looking. The not so good: -Literally no talking. The owner doesn't try to make conversation or be friendly. -No use of razors! Don't be fooled by some of the one-star reviews. Sukh is an excellent barber, and I've gotten haircuts from him since 2010 and never had a bad cut. He's a bit gruff and will give you a straight answer or his unvarnished opinion if you ask a question, which may not be for everyone, but the service is good. He will also be up front and tell you if you're asking for a cut or style that he doesn't do often or have much experience with, which I would much prefer than have a barber say they can handle something and leave the customer with a bad cut. I've been here 5 or 6 times now and I think I have formulated enough of an opinion to write a succinct review. To those who read the 1 star reviews- they're not entirely inaccurate. Sukh is a no-nonsense kind of guy. He doesn't dilly dally, he doesn't coddle, he does business the way he wants to do business. I've come to the conclusion that I like and respect this. It's his place. If you want fake smiles and overly kind customer service, this probably isn't the spot for you. If you want a good haircut in a timely fashion with no nonsense- it IS the place for you. I don't give a crap if my barber chats about my day or what I've been up to, I get my haircut for the end product. I am happy with that end product. Not sure if they hate their job, think they're too cool/good for everyone, or are always having a bad day when I go -but I couldn't recommend it on service alone. Started going to this place last year and it was great! But over time the main hairdresser has lost his touch. I believe his name is "Suk" I'm. Or entirely sure how to spell it. Anyways if you lucky to get him to talk to you all he talks about is how he wants a career change, which I think would be good for him due to how the only hot cut he knows how to do is a buzz cut. I've been getting my cuts from Sukh for about ten years, off and on. I often go somewhere else as an expedient, because Sukh is a busy man and so am I. I've had a few good cuts elsewhere. I've had a lot of average cuts elsewhere. And I have definitely been pounded elsewhere - I mean pounded. The kind of haircut that just kills your soul. Whenever that last one happens - when I have been wrecked, and I find myself in the pit of despair because the last thing a lumpy-looking middle-aged man like me needs is a bad haircut - I come back to Sukh with my tail between my legs. He fixes it. And I fancy myself again. I see a few negative reviews laying around - that's the beauty of Yelp. I myself have been merciless on Yelp once or twice. Been coming here for a few years. His cuts are fine, but can be really off-putting/rude and is obviously nicer to his "loyal" customers (aka anyone that can talk sports or is not a student). My usually Davis barbershop (Motown) was closed for the day so I had to go look for a new place. I have been to 5 other barbers in the area but I this was my first experience at Razors Edge. Pros: the place was empty so I sat right down. Neutral: the haircut, I have yet to put product in it, but I didn't come away liking it or feeling impressed. Pretty much what you would get a great clips. Cons: NO STRAIGHT RAZOR at a place called Razors Edge?? What?? Didn't seem to take his time with the haircut, also didn't ask how I like my sideburns, or rounded or square in the back, he overall didn't seem very engaged in the haircut. Summary: look elsewhere. Unless I just had a new barber or he was having a bad day, you can get FAR better cuts for the same price at other places that include a straight razor. Recommendation: go to Motown and ask for Ben. The thing I absolutely hate the most about any Barber shop experience is having to wait forever. When I get a haircut it's because I need my hair cut because either A) I have something important to go to, or B) I've let it grow out too much to the point that I really need it cut. So, I really don't ever have the time to just sit and wait for over an hour in a barber shop. The first time I came here, no one was here and I immediately jumped into the chair and got my hair cut. Sukh did a fast job, but still one of quality. He didn't screw around and I appreciate it.
