I went in for a haircut and though there were 4 barbers working, I waited over an hour before being seated. These barbers seemed more interested in chatting among themselves than cutting hair. It was like watching paint dry. When I finally got seated, I told the black barber that I just wanted a shorter version of my current cut. He immediately took his electric clippers and shaved the left side of my hair almost to the skin. I was shocked! It was like he was giving me a white not d feed ase. I thought told him to stop and I got out of the chair. He was gracious and didn't charge me, so I went to Supercuts where I was seen immediately and got a salvage job. The barber left mid haircut to go talk the "manager" outside. This is specifically to Demetrius. He is by far the worst barber I've ever let cut my hair. I asked for a fade and this guy ended up giving me a bowl cut somehow. He also gave me lip every time I asked him to make an adjustment to my hair. Like, shit, sorry I'm asking you to be decent and do your job. Also WTF they charge $25 for a regular haircut. Honestly, you'd have better luck just getting scissors and cutting your hair with a blindfold on than from Demetrius. Swear Demetrius is some homeless dude they picked up and told him to keep the seats warm but he just stuck around anyways and started randomly cutting hair. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Does not know how to cut latino hair or any hair tbh. read more

Pretty much I wanted to give them 5 stars, but in the end the haircut was not as good as I wanted it to be. The service is was amazing for my 4 year old. He sat there quietly and patiently, but in the end, the trimming on the top was very choppy. The blend and fade was nice. I'll definitely go back for the service, but hopefully they'll do a better job on the top of his head. read more

Meh experience. The haircut was good but the barber I had kept complaining that my hair was "too long" and charged me $30 to give me a skin fade and to cut my bangs. The barber even kept complaining to other patrons that my haircut was "too much work". Even after I paid. This place was great. I had been growing out my hair for almost a year and a half and was ready for a change. Needless to say, I was a bit of a mess. I went to Davis Barber Shop to get cleaned up. The barber there recommended I come back and have Peter do my hair since he was great at long hair cuts. I came back and Peter CRUSHED it. He was so knowledgeable. He took time to make sure I was getting what I wanted and gave me an amazing haircut. I got home and my wife couldn't stop telling me how good my hair looked. I was a little nervous getting a cut after growing for so long but Peter did an amazing job and made me feel comfortable throughout the whole process. Couldn't recommend him enough. read more

Worst haircut experience ever. I asked the barber with afro hair if he does scissor cut. He said he does. Not only he screwed the hair cut, he is blaming my hair being carely for the worst hair cut I've ever seen. I finally told him to cut the whole hair completely. And for that he got 16$ dollars. As a lifelong customer I owe this business a review! Been going here my whole life through the ups and downs. I am happy to say that the older barber who had been the owner for the past 5 years has finally retired. He should have about 15 or more years ago, but as the owner he could do as he pleased, which if you read many of the reviews you will see the pattern and how one barber can basically ruin the vibe and reputation of a shop online, by not caring or taking pride in his work. So I never went to him but just watching his work style, quality and attitude made me pray for his retirement for the sake of this great shop! People would wait to come in on his days off, making the shop busier on a Wednesday (his day off when he did not work) than a Saturday which is normally the busiest day. I would like to apologize for him to anybody that got in his chair, your review was valid and your complaint has been heard, everyone at the shop agrees! Enough about that, the tide has changed! So the current owner Jeff, who's dad John owned it most of my childhood is back to owning it and making the decisions. If you have not been in a long time or are a new customer, I would say to give them a try since the barber with virtually all the bad reviews is not there, and never will be again. Jeff is great with kids and is an all around traditional barber! Demetrius is also a traditional barber great at all hair types. I personally have not had my haircut by the rest of the crew but can tell you just by watching them that any of the current barbers here will give you a 1000 times better haircut than the one who just retired. They will stand behind their work and listen to your needs, making sure you leave satisfied! This shop has been a barber shop for over 100 years and has a rich history. Some of the current barbers have struggled just to work next to a barber of this caliber for many years, knowing this day would come eventually if they just stuck it out. They have learned immensely what not to do from having the wrong person, a terrible barber as the owner. The shop is now ready to re-prove and re-establish itself with the community and be the best barber shop again, as it was voted for many many years! So if you get a great cut and great service, let people know! As a customer for over 40 years, this new blood in the shop is a breath of fresh air and I am very happy to know this business will thrive with the new leadership for many years to come! read more

Updated review. I've been a regular for twenty years. Demetrius and Max (as well as Jeff) are my go to barbers. Arrive in the morning for easy parking, wait times are short. I like the easy conversation here, it's fun and relaxing, and D really knows his hoops. This is a true crossroads of the best of our community. People from all walks of life in a fun space. The toys are a nice touch for the young ones. Jeff is considered the best barber for youngsters in Davis. read more

The older guy who works here was just extremely rude and sexist toward me and my 4 year old daughter. The sign on the door said "Men Women Children" and our usual spot was closed so we decided to try it. There were three patrons waiting and my daughter was second in a line of three children. The older guy didn't just refuse us service-he was extremely rude about it. At first he ignored us. When I told him we were next in line he said, "I don't do girls," again, in a very rude and dismissive tone. I was incensed. Many other one star reviews refer to an "old guy" being rude and unpleasant here. I bet I had the same guy cut my hair - it was a very bad experience. Even if I disregarded his irritability (he became irritated when I politely asked if he could take more off the top!), he rushed through the haircut and obviously did not even try to do a decent job. I felt robbed afterward - I know obviously it wasn't theft, but I feel like I gave this guy money for something I did not want. He took 3 minutes then handed me the mirror. When I wanted a little bit more done his tone changed and he became bitter. I didn't feel like dealing with this sort of thing so I stopped offering him suggestions due to his hypersensitivity. Why add fuel to the fire? It's just a haircut anyway. I dealt with the bad choice of barbershop and moved on, and he got an unearned $16.00. Not the end of the world. Just a bad Yelp review. I can't speak for this place as a whole; however if you end up here and get the "old guy", hold on tight it could be a bumpy ride! read more

Sorry Lynn, 5 stars is a gross overestimation. The haircut I got here was pretty much the same as I could expect at any barber shop. Clipper cuts: $13 Scissor cuts: $17 Shave: $5 ($4 if you also get a haircut). They do have a gigantic pile of toys and lots of books to read. Also, at least the main guy is actually a barber, not just a haircutter. I've had my hair cut here a few times. I've never been super impressed by the results. read more

This place used to be pretty good, now I feel like they just cater to kids under 14 years old. Some of the barbers there shouldn't even be cutting hair they're so sloppy and inconsistent. As a UC Davis student who gets his hair cut every 2.5 weeks, I want consistency, skill, and a solid barbershop atmosphere. The only barber that's good there is D since Jeff is always hiding away in the backroom (even once when I was waiting there for ten minutes with no other customers or barbers). I went here because my usual haircut place was closed for the day, and I really needed a haircut. I walked over to this place since it was open, and asked the guy for a haircut. Nothing special, just cut my hair so that a) it's shorter and b) it'll grow back and look the same in a few weeks. The guy who cut my hair was very nice and talkative. The haircut only took maybe 5-10 minutes, but meh. It looked a bit off when he was done, but I couldn't figure out why. I had my mom look at my hair and she told me that it was uneven all over - then she gave me another haircut. All in all, it was a quick haircut, but I don't think I'm going back. It was more expensive than my regular barber ($14). That, and I wasn't exactly impressed with his work. However, there are a lot of toys, so if you have little kids, they'll fare much better here than at other barbershops. read more

Not a bad spot. Pretty affordable for a college town. I used to pay $25 for a bald fade (tip includes). But they charge $14 for a regular haircut. Can't really complain for $14. As far as the quality goes its pretty solid. Nice clean, precision haircuts in a timely manner. Can't be mad at that. My barber Demetrius, is cash money. He's big on details and gives high quality haircuts. Before he even touches my hair with his clippers he makes 100% sure that he is going to be giving me the haircut I specifically asked for... and nothing less. My review goes for barber Jeff. I walked in with no appointment, for a haircut on my 3 yr old. I was expecting him to make it impossible, but Jeff has a way of interacting with children!! My son was super chill all the time and Jeff worked wonderfully and quickly. I was amazed. My husband also got a haircut, very nicely faded and exactly what he wanted. I just got a cut here for $16. The old man that cut my hair was rude as heck. I ask for a basic cut and he started cutting the front of my head with scissors like a line up! I was shocked. I stopped him and he got angry. After all was done I left with a 5/10 haircut. Never going back. Or at least not getting cut by him. Not sure if the others were good. I usually go to MoTown Barber shop in Davis but had to come here last minute. Guy was decently nice, but he gave a bad haircut. Spent 3 minutes on it, didn't fade it at all like I asked, when I asked politely to make it a little shorter he just did the front and left the back longer. Bad haircut. After I asked to shorten it up a little he just unbuttoned the apron and didn't give me a chance to say anything more. Bad haircut. Bad service. This Barbershop is pretty good. The customer service here is probably the best out of all the other barbers in the downtown area. I go to all, except Motown which always has super long line and I feel is overpriced/overhyped. The new barbers are pretty good. The last time I had a new younger barber who grew up in Davis give me a comb over cut, he did a pretty good job. I was somewhat scared because he was talking a lot with me and he was doing things out of order which I wasn't used to but end result was really good. I've been a long time customer until a couple months ago. The original guys who started this shop were skilled barbers. Now they've hired a set of strange guys who scared me the last two time I visited. This one guy with glasses is an amateur with his clippers and told me stories about how he made a few kids bleed by cutting their ears. I thought he was joking, but I could tell that his sanity was out the door. I don't recommend this place because its quality took a dive lately. read more
