Food was definitely the star of the night. The table side presentations at first sound gimmicky, but when they worked, like the duck carving and the crispy rice fish soup, they definitely added new dimensions to the respective dishes. Starting with the duck, it's clearly well executed. The meat cook to perfect tenderness and juicy scales, which the skin was crispy without being fatty. Seeing the expert carving table side does allow one to fully appreciate the efforts required for this dish to come together. The hoisin sauce (table side prep here feels a bit much) hit the spot to add needed flavor punch and should be used liberally to make it fully sing. The other pleasant surprise was the crispy rice in fish soup. The server recommended it after some prodding, which in hindsight I would have thought it's a slam dunk recommendation. The fish soup has umami flavor in spades without tasting like MSG. There plenty of decent size shrimp chucks to justify the seafood label. The crispy rice sounded suspicious at first (how can rice stay crispy in soup???), but it delivered on the promise of that crispy texture element. The whole dish come together beautifully. The only reason to not give it 5 stars is the price. While being a very satisfying meal, the bill was astronomical compared to other high end Chinese restaurants. It's not to say Chinese food can't be this expensive, but compare to other restaurants at this price level, I do think more can and should be expected. Specifically the service was somewhat awkward with many different people floating in and out, yet the soups and rice were self service items (contrast that to the duck, which was perfectly fine as self service with all the complexity). There also some misses like the pan seared black cod and string beans. The duck fried rice was also borderline bland, and only saved by the 30% crispy rice mix that gave it good texture (I highly recommend adding hoisin sauce or asking for other condiments to dial up flavors). read more

Wow, everything on the menu tasted delicious! And the food presentation looked amazing as well. Even though we ate dinner there on a busy Saturday night, they still prepared the food promptly! My favorites included peking duck, crispy duck fat fried rice, beef short ribs, honey bbq pork, all dim sum and any of their mango dessert creations. But you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Mixed feelings about the latest visits resulting in less frequent visits and lower customer loyalty. Service can be good, but it is often inconsistent with mistakes. The menu selection seems to get increasingly limited over time, and it seems like they often abandon their best simple dishes for more overpriced and overly fusion pretentious dishes. Desserts have always been a disappointment compared to many other higher end Vancouver Asian restaurants. Dishes are sometimes served without dipping sauces, which take a long wait to arrive later. Dishes occasionally come out of the kitchen with mistakes. Worst of all is they worry more about short term crash grabs than treating long term customers in a way that makes them feel valued. For example even when not full, they'll force a party if 2 to sit in a half booth just to hold a small booth for a party of four which is a tight squeeze for a party that size anyway. Last time I tried to make a reservation they wouldn't even accomodate a special physical need of one of the parties, in this situation. The restaurant is already small and crowded with tables more like a cocktail lounge than a fine restaurant. The table rationing approach has even happened to me when nobody arrived in the other booth the entire meal. Drinks and wine selection are impressive yet tea and some drinks are extremely high priced. In general, prices are super high and keep rising at rates beyond other Vancouver high end restaurants. For me the value becomes poor not because of the pricing, but because they don't seem to deliver overall at a level to justify it. I find it interesting that unlike other restaurants with great duck, that they seem to never be able to serve repeat customers an order of Peking Duck without ordering the day before. There's no special accommodation here. Parking is another add on expense for valet which goes well over another $20 with tips. They seem to put their needs and grabbing as much cash as possible first, ahead of customer needs, not prioritizing long term customer loyalty. We had a delightful family dinner here. I almost didn't go because it sounded too fancy, and the info about vegetarian food for my partner was hard to find on the website. However, once we arrived it was a comfortable cozy space, with a more upscale atmosphere than many typical Chinese places you would go to to in Vancouver. They did have a special all-vegetarian menu on a separate sheet that they brought upon request. I thought the food was delicious, although prices are steep and so this would fall in the "worthy splurge" category for once in a while. My partner thought the "vegetarian chicken" could have had a little bit more creative presentation (it was just tofu cut into squares but it was tasty). The decor is lovely. Fun cocktails and full bar. The servers I would give 4 stars, they are friendly and attentive, however the pacing was a bit off and we had to wait a long time and re-ask for some items. That's what your looking for nothing over cooked. The ice tea I had sweetened it was first class. I also had short ribs, ok hear me out on this one. I'm from Nebraska, the beef is good there. Went to Mott 32 last weekend for our anniversary. Convenient to make reservations through open table and even change the time the day of. We tried their famous Peking duck (order 24 hour in advance, we just noted it when making the reservation), honestly it wasn't anything too special or out of the ordinary for the duck. However, skin texture was crispy, sauce was the same as any other place that serves duck. Their customer service was good overall. I actually love their chicken conch soup the most out of all the stuff we tried, although a tad pricey $64 for 2 bowls but the dark meat chicken was boneless and very flavourful broth. Truffle Sui mai was decent too, nice surprise with the quail egg in the center, which gave the bite a burst of sauce and juice. We may come back and try the other dishes but probably not the duck again. For 2 people, it was about 300$ before tipping. read more

Flavor was a bit bland. Service was questionable. Chopsticks didn't match? For this price (we spent a whopping $600 on a meal for our family of two adults and two kids with no Peking duck to rack up the bill) we expect at least matching chopsticks, proper ventilation (it was super smoky inside like the kitchen was actually on fire), much much better service, and much more flavor and quality in the food. Until I hear from the Mott 32 franchise, I have revised my review from a 5 (Vancouver) to a 1 (Vegas). I had a 5:00 PM reservation at the Vegas branch (opening time). We were there promptly at 5:00 with 2 parties in front of us who had arrived before opening time. It appears that all of the 5PM reservations were told to wait in a holding pen. After many parties had been seated, I inquired why we had not been seated (5:10 PM). We were seated. Water came promptly. Then nothing happened. We had 7PM show tickets. I could only assume that the poor performance would be perpetuated. We walked at 5:20. We ended up having to walk into the Grand Lux Cafe where we had mediocre food but good service. It would have been nice to have the soup dumplings and a couple of the stir fried dishes but we could not be served. read more

Probably the best Peking duck I've ever had. Service was good but not exceptional...you kind of expect exceptional at a place like this. Total price was ~300 usd for 6 drinks, the Peking duck with fried rice add on, wok fried veggies, and the iberico pork Char siu. Overall that's a reasonable price for a meal at an upscale restaurant for 4 people. But at the same time it's quite pricey for Chinese food... whether or not that's a "fair" statement is up for you to decide. Being Chinese and living in Los Angeles I'm use to really good AND cheap Chinese food. The fact that all the dishes were really good was actually quite impressive. These fancy Chinese restaurants usually end up charging exorbitant prices for mediocre food... but Mott32 actually has really good food for "reasonable" prices. The one thing that kind of bugs me is that they slice up the duck and serve you the best parts... which only equates to 50-60% of the total meat. When I asked what happens with the rest of the meat the reply was that the rest of the duck isn't actually complete cooked but you can technically ask to take it home if you want... That just sounds strange to me that a duck that's cooked for 48 hours isn't 100% cooked? If you order one of the duck add ons like the fried rice you probably get another 20% of the meat. I checked and they don't have any other duck items on the menu so they don't use YOUR duck for someone else's dish later. So do the employees take the leftovers home? Do they *gasp* throw it away? I guess it will be one of the mysteries of life. read more

The dim sum and the roasted pork was really tasty. The atmosphere at this place is super nice and our server/bartender Ting was great. Finally had a chance to try this place with friends from out of town. Unfortunately, it was very disappointing. The food was okay, but definitely overpriced. We ordered the Peking duck ahead of time. It was served with the usual wraps, green onions, and hoisin sauce. It was pretty good, nice flavour, but I can't say it was better than some of the other nice Chinese restaurants I've had it at. We also had the smoked cod, which had basically no flavour to it. And... I've already forgotten what else we had, because none of it was great. The service was below average. The waiter didn't seem to understand some of my questions. The table was uneven, and dirty. It was also dirty on the underside and when my friend told the waiter it dirtied his trousers, he didn't even apologize or anything. Basically, it was the level of service I'd expect from a random Chinese cafe, or cheap dim sum place, not a "top" restaurant. No reason to ever go back there. read more

This was "upscale" Chinese dining. Not your typical inexpensive neighborhood family Chinese dining (which we really enjoy). We had a great server, who even got them to modify one of their signature dishes, as we were sharing and one at the table did not care for spicy/hot, and it came out great. In fact the manager came over to ask how we liked it, and said he would name the modification after the server. Lots of choices. They are a chain, and the manager shared which cities they are possibly looking at next. Watch for them if you don't already have one close by. read more

The food however , was not worth the money. First of all, we came for my MILs birthday so we brought a cake and prior to being seated, we were told the cake cutting fee would be 5$ (which is fine) but we weren't told it would be 5$ PER PERSON. I've been to Mott 32 in Vegas so I know what to expect but the price still shocked me. Peking duck is a must order but because you have to order it one day ahead makes it very inconvenient. The duck fried rice (optional addon) is way too expensive but at least it's good (albeit a little oily). The smoked sea bass should be avoided because the taste doesn't match the price. The lobster mapo tofu is interesting and a new take on mapo tofu so I'd recommend trying it. The black pepper beef is not worth ordering either due to being quite plain. Overall it's a good restaurant with some creativity but a little expensive but probably should be expected. read more

The duck was incredibly delicious. Despite the price, it feeds 3 people very well. The duck skin with sugar was extremely tasty. The duck meat was delicious. The wraps were thin but not thin. I loved the peanut, hoisin sauce they provided. We also got extra toppings once we ran out. We also got the lobster fried rice and hot and sour XLB. First of all, they had table side MIMOSAS where they freshly squeeze the oranges and make your mimosa right next to your table. I thought this was such a cool idea and being from LA and never having seen something like this I though this was so cool and they were incredibly refreshing too! The Roast Duck was the main attraction tonight but we had other surprises that came along. Recommended is the: 1) Wok Fried Duck with Chilli Soy 2) Pea Tips, Fish Broth, Goji Berry, Lily Bulb 3) Scallops, Prawns, Crispy Rice in Fish Soup Item #3 was surprisingly good being a rice soup which in its nature is bland but the soup stock they utilized was more labor intensive than the reflective price. Item #2 is falls into the same line as #2. The high quality stock used was matched perfectly with the Pea tip. No signs of oil added. However, since we have already ordered the Beijing Roast Duck in the first three days, we are honored to receive our reservation. A carriage arrived and the whole duck was on the carriage. The waiter asked me if I wanted to take a photo? Eddie asked the master to turn the duck over and found that the duck was half-over baked that was burning .we asked to change one. They cut about half of the ducks and placed them on the table. We asked them how they planned to deal with the rest of the ducks (because we bought it for $95) and they told us that we could give us duck fried rice - we had to pay $20... This place was phenomenal! We went here when we were visiting from California. The interior is designed beautifully with a blend of industrial mixed w traditional to create a really modern look. All of the dishes go well with it and it made for a fantastic first impression. Our server, Michele, was fabulous. She was super knowledgeable, friendly, efficient, and patient. I am gluten free and she knew exactly what I could/not have and was very careful. We were bummed that due to supply chain issues they didn't have most of the barbecue meats but we had several dim sum (the beet root dumplings were life changing!), two meat dishes, a veggie dish, and my friends had some noodles. I had an outer body experience at Mott 32 because the food was that good. I made a reservation to be able to order the pecking duck and BBQ pork. These items are only available for pre-order as they do have limited quantities, and I'm glad I did. They give you all the fixings for the duck: the pancake, sesame-hoisin sauce, shallot, and cucumber. The BBQ pork was also exceptional. Apart from those two items we had the soup dumplings and wagyu beef string beans. Everything was delicious. A few things were ok, so I'm giving it a 4. I went with my mom for lunch. Barbecue Iberico pork was really great. Sweet and soft, but it really ought to be for 52CAD. I'd order it again. Scallop, shrimp & beetroot dumplings looked beautiful, didn't taste as good as it looked, but I liked it. The skin was a little thick. Garlic prawn spring rolls, hot & sour Iberico pork Shanghainese soup dumplings were solid. The pork short ribs were good but probably unnecessary. Our server recommended it to us when I asked if he thought we ordered a good amount of food. Wasn't a particularly great recommendation. Signature crispy sugar coated bbq Iberico pork bun was good too but it wasn't signature-good. I could have skipped this and ordered another dumpling in retrospect. Dessert was good too, but probably could have been skipped as we were pretty full. Or, the portions were pretty big so we could have shared one. Service was good. Food came out quickly. Peking duck needs to be reserved , at least 24hr ahead, so if you want this delicious dish, reservation is recommended. Smoked blacked cod is my favourite .
