The dishes that knock other dim sum places off the rank ladder is the chicken feet and (my favorite dim sum dish) black bean spare ribs. Service is good enough. Came on a Sunday evening. It was very busy and per-usual for Chinese restaurants this style. We got the duck, it was mainly skin and shrimp chips. But it was still very delicious. Then we got the second duck dish, which paired nicely with the first, it was good with the lettuce wraps. We also got scallops and shrimp with greens. It was very delicious and nicely plated. Then came the fried rice with shrimp and bbq pork. My favorite. It was so declious. Then the sweet and sour pork with lychee. It was so good. I love the sweetness of the lychee, very different but would totally recommend. I love the entrance to this place too it has a little fountain, perfect for a good photo-op. I've come here a couple of times, and the food has always been good. Lots of Chinese families gather here for dim sum. They give you a menu and pencil to mark the items you want to order (no carts filled with food being pushed around the dining room), and food comes out quickly after you order it. Favorite items: siu mai, pan fried shrimp and chive dumplings, bean curd roll, chicken feet Coming from the US (have eaten dim sum in SF, LA, Seattle), I really appreciate the quantity and size of shrimp they put in their dim sum! Great if you love shrimp, not so good if you don't. They have a stamp card with a reward you can collect with each stamp. There's free parking in the building, but make sure you register. I've been to this dim sum spot before and knew it was good, so I had to bring my friends to try it for their first time and they all loved it! We ordered a bit of everything, and the crowd favorite was definitely the #52 tofu with shrimp paste and the hacau. We ended up ordering three portions, and the staff even triple checked with us to make sure that's how much we liked it lol! Unfortunately, even after reserving a large king crab the a day before the reservation, the restaurant called the day of to say they did not have king crab. Weeks earlier, I was told to call the day before to reserve a king crab. The dinner was still good with excellent service and spotted prawns. I was debating between this restaurant and Neptune for king crab, and unfortunately chose wrong and did not want to change the reservation 3 hours before the dinner. All food items were cooked perfectly and nothing was overly salty or bland. At times we had 3 waiters tending to our group. I've been here a few times throughout my life, and this visit was on New Year's Day, coming for dim sum with friends as my first meal of the year. We made reservations, so seating itself wasn't an issue. The food is good overall, and the dim sum dishes we did receive were flavorful and satisfying, with solid portions. Unfortunately, service was a mess that day. Some of our order was forgotten, and we waited around 45 minutes while being told multiple times that the food was coming. It later became clear that our dishes had been served to the wrong table, and this wasn't communicated to us at the time. Service can be hit or miss, especially during busy times. I came here during a trip to Vancouver, BC after hearing raving reviews about it from family. In fact, I came here twice during my trip--once for their dim sum service, and another time for their dinner service. The inside of their restaurant is VERY spacious and can be used for big events, such as weddings. It's bright, clean, and very nice. Everything is very clean, and service is quick. When I came here for their dim sum service, it was surprisingly not busy at all. Their menu for their dim sum service is huge and they have so much variety. We (over) ordered so many of their dim sum items and everything was very good quality, delicious, and you can tell that it was made with more care than you would normally expect from a casual dim sum restaurant. For their dinner service, I felt as if their menu was a bit smaller than what I was used to. Went for dim sum today and it was extremely busy (which we took for a good sign). It's one huge room and a giant screen tv (hilariously showing golf!). We sat for about 10 min (AFTER choosing all our food) and finally had to flag someone down to let them know we were ready. They ignored us completely. We then had to flag someone else down to order drinks - no one asks you if you want anything. Our food came and everything was solidly MID. Not bad, not great. Just okay. Would not return. One of the best meals we had during our trip. My boyfriend and I came here for a late lunch on a Thursday and were able to be seated immediately. We quickly discovered that this dim sum spot is not like the usual spots with the ladies pushing around the carts that you order from. Rather, an employee will hand you a tri-fold pamphlet that has photos and names/short descriptions of items in which you mark the quantity of specific dishes you wish to order. Once you are finished, you hand it back to an employee and they will input your order into the computer. A little later, an employee pushes out a small cart of some of our items that we ordered, and they came back two more times to deliver our remaining dishes. All dishes came out fresh and hot. What we ordered: -Har Gow: Skin was not too thick. I believe the description said it had asparagus mixed into the shrimp, but it was not discernible so it did not affect the taste. Tasted like a typical har gow. -Siu Mai: Great bounce to the chew. The wrapper was also very thin here and great flavor. I liked the tiny pops of texture with the roe topping. Large size as well. -Shrimp Rice Roll: Probably the best rice roll I've ever had. Like the other items offered here, the skin was much thinner than the many spots I've had in the past, and it had a lovely chew/stretchiness that allowed it to remain intact rather than quickly falling apart in small chunks. The shrimp was cooked perfectly as well. Excellent. -Chicken Feet: The sauce was the usual black bean, savory sauce. It was good in flavor but maybe slightly lighter than other ones I've had. It also was not spicy as some spots make it, but I still enjoyed it. -Shrimp and Crab Fried Balls: I'm not sure what these were exactly called on the menu but it was basically a small crab claw with shrimp paste on the outside that has been crusted in panko and deep fried. The size of each ball was generous. The texture of the shrimp portion was good, and the crab claw had a briny taste. Each order comes with a side of bright red, sweet and sour sauce. -Salted Egg Yolk Buns: The faces on the buns were adorable, and there was a pretty generous amount of filling in each of the buns. They came out piping hot so we had to wait a little bit for them to cool down. The filling was strong in flavor but not too salty. Fluffy exterior. Heated up well the next day. -Egg Tarts: The egg tarts seemed smaller compared to some I've seen from other dim sum spots, you can easily eat the entire thing in one bite, but they were done really well. The flakiness was perfect, and there was enough egg flavor to balance out the butter notes in the pastry crust. Very good. The restaurant and parking: The restaurant is located on the corner of a few businesses. Once you walk in, there's a fountain/pond with double staircase on both the left and right side. You will walk upstairs and see the large restaurant on the left and a small hallway that leads to the bathrooms on the right. The restaurant has many tables so the host will jump back and forth between greeting/seating and answering phone calls for orders and inquiries. Service was fairly quick though we had to ask two different employees for soy sauce and chili sauce for the siu mai and har gow as none was provided on the tables. Restrooms are very clean and the sinks are really fancy. Parking is paid as with all other areas within the city. We parked along a street near the residential area, about a 1 minute walk from the restaurant. Overall: Really great dim sum. I would say the price is higher than other spots I have been to, but I'm glad the quality meets the cost. I would come back here if I'm back in town, but due to the cost, I don't think I would frequent this spot if I lived here. More for special occasions. read more

Above average dim sum spot. They do take reservations (we were able to call in and get one for a party of four on a Saturday). One recently opened in Washington but isn't at the level or consistency of the YVR area yet so we had to try here. They have a parking garage underneath, accessible in the back alley. Spots are pretty tight but there's ample room which is very convenient especially since it's all street parking around this area. Rice rolls were above average with a silkier texture than normal. Har gow (shrimp dumplings) and siu mai were pretty average. I'd say the fu pi juan (bean curd roll) was better than others, there was a fair amount of filling. read more

Some absolutely delicious dim sum in Vancouver! We ordered way to much for what we could eat, but it was all so delicious. Service was fast and efficient, and we had all the items quickly. Our spread included the cheung fun, dumplings, lo mai gai, xo sauce radish cake, bean curd roll, and chinese broccoli in oyster sauce. I loved the bean curd roll and dumplings. Everything was so good though, it was hard to pick a favorite. The portion of the radish cake is super generous too. Came here on a Sunday morning expecting it to be busy, but there was no wait! We were immediately seated and ordered like the olden days via paper and pen checklist. We got 11 dishes in total, but didn't look at the prices beforehand, so we didn't realize Chinese broccoli ($16) would cost more until it was too late. Our favorites were by far the su mai and the egg custard dessert buns. The dessert buns were sweet and creamy, and their faces were so cute! The waiters were super attentive about removing empty trays/plates and the chrysanthemum tea was delicious as well. It's definetly on the pricier side here. We're ordered 11 items across 3 people and the total came out to be $150 CAD pre-tax. That's okay though One of us is particularly disappointed in how expensive it was. He is from Vancouver and he has been to places where he usually pays $25 CAD max. His father gave us this recommendation so he'll be having a chat with him later tonight. Overall, it was good but there are a lot of other places that are just as good but for a cheaper place Washroom: Pretty nice for a Chinese restaurant! Comfortable enough to do business Tips: - Order in rounds! We ordered the dessert with everything else and so it came out way too early and we were forced to eat the buns before they cooled down. For that, you are really paying a premium. The dim sum is good overall but it is quite pricey. You can get similar quality for less farther east. Tea/hot water is 2.25 per person. Your regular dim sum fare is $10.50. The desserts are at least 8.50 to 9.50. They have some innovative items. I would say the deep fried tofu was our favourite as well as the sesame ball with black sesame. The egg tarts were good. The rest was fine. Not much to write home about. I am used to dim sum coming out piping hot but sadly it was not at Sun Sui Wah. I wouldn't go out of my way for this place but a good choice in the area. read more

This is one of my favorite (if not actually the favorite) dim sum places in the world. Everything is fresh made, fillings are full and not too greasy or salty, and the execution is just wonderful. The you tiao is gigantic--crispy but also has a lot of nice chew. The sesame balls are gigantic, perfectly round, and filled w a wonderful mochi center. Their special shumai and shrimp dumplings are a MUST. We don't go back to many restaurants twice, but we will be back at this one every time we are in Vancouver! read more

The menu is equally sizeable and the classic dishes are great. This review is for dinner. When I grew up in Hong Kong, my family would go to SSW in Shatin or North Point to have dinner. The squab was always a favorite. Fast forward to tonight...the squab was still as good as it was some 30 years ago. The price tag was not cheap, but it made me very happy. Please reserve the squab ahead of time. We also ordered winter melon seafood soup...it was heavenly. The garlic snow pea leaves, and Peking pork chops were also very very good. The pan fried noodles was really traditional. If I ever had time to visit Vancouver again, I will try the dim sum. Highly recommend. read more

Admittedly my family and I only recently tried Sun Sui Wah Vancouver, but going forward this has to be our new favorite Dim Sum joint with its authentic Hong Kong style modern dim sum. Because of a very poor experience with the Sun Sui Wah in Richmond, we would have never thought to come here, but we recently learned that while the two are owned by the same people, they are managed completely separately. The most important thing to know is that this is one of the few dim sum places left that serves fresh dim sum (and not pre-made reheated dumplings from a factory). All of their dim sum and dishes are fresh and tasty. You can really tell with the Siu Mai with how juicy the pork tastes. Prices are very reasonable, and there is a lot of choice. The service is more akin to a western hors d'oeurves style, where the restaurant brings out the same dish to every table at once, so a run of Har Gow, then a run of Siu Mai, then a run of BBQ Pork buns, for example. I guess this means they come freshly made. And while ownership has changed in recent years, things still "feel right" unlike a few other places around town. Lastly, the clientele here is more mixed than you'll ever see at a dim sum restaurant, with a large non Asian fanbase, so it's great for Western and international friendly gatherings. What's funny is that we told all of our friends and family how good the food is here and none of them ever go here for dim sum, so it's a completely non overlapping group who come here! read more

Very clean and modern decor, all the food is not only delicious but I feel made with just a tiny bit extra quality and touch over regular places. Only one dish didn't turn out well - the asparagus was bitter. However after pointing out to the staff they apologized, took it away and offered to cancel from our order, which was good. Some highlights - - the Dan tart was small but really well done. - the seaweed with pea sprouts was really good. Unusual take. - fried tofu was done really well. Extra something added to breading for extra flavour. - the Lau Sa Bao (egg lava bun) had really cute faces on them and the flavour was up to par too - crispy fish with small eggs - sorry I forgot exact name - really really good. Definitely a solid place for dim sum. My favorites were the siu mai and the ham sul guk. The siu mai was perfectly cooked so that the meat was still juicy and the shrimp was still tender. The ham sul guk was super savory and rich without being heavy. The glutinous rice wrapper of it was super crispy without being soaked in oil. We also got some of the other typical dishes: har gow, zong zi, cheung fun and egg tarts. I would say that these dishes were pretty standard. Came for dinner on a Sunday. It was pretty empty so I don't think there's a need for reservations unless you want to reserve a particular dish like we did. The highlight of the night was definitely the pigeon, the melon soup and the sweet and sour pork. The pigeon was really crispy and juicy at the same time. Perfectly salted and delicious (no Pic as it was grabbed at quickly) The melon soup was so full of goods that I don't think it should be called a soup and instead it should be considered a meal. There was craband scallops inside. The soup was so sweet not in a fake sugary kind of way but a savory and seafood kind of way. Would recommend if money is of no object The sweet and sour pork was surprisingly good. Crispy on the outside. Perfect balance of sweet and salty. The meat wasn't dry but instead very crisp in a good way. Overall the food here was pretty good. Not overly salty and didn't make me drink loads of water afterwards. The service was friendly and fast. My dirty plates were switched out every time a shell landed on it. The prices are appropriate for the amount of food and quality of food. Would definitely recommend the pigeon and sweet and sour pork. The atmosphere was nice because only half the restaurant was full. Every dish had a better version of it done at other dimsum restaurants. The prices (not mentioned in the menu) were at $7.95 (M), $8.95 (L), $9.95 (SP) and tea seating cost of $2.25 per adult. At least the restaurant is pretty clean. And they have large projection screen and TVs to keep the kids entertained, even if it's just showing golf. read more
