We were surprised to find how bleh most of the baked goods were. Despite going on a Friday morning before 9am, we were surprised at the the hardness of the scones (both blueberry and scallion). The scallion at least was buttery inside, the blueberry scone was so dry and overcooked. The blueberry bread was also surprisingly tasteless and almost wet inside. FANTASTIC! FANTASTIC! FAAAANTASTIC! little bakery in Bar Harbor! While I was on holiday in Maine I stopped in wherever to get my usual...I plain bagel, with butter..and a bottle of orange juice. Some places were good, some...not so much. I mean, how can a plain bagel with butter...be bad? Well, very easily lol. Went to a place in New Hampshire and it was the worst bagel I had ever had. So when I was in Bar Harbor, I had gone to a few places every morning and none of them were as great as this place. It's super close to downtown and all the tourist shops. So I just figured....expensive. Not at all. The bagel was fantastic! they toasted it just right and didn't drown it in butter like so many other places had on that trip. AND! the bagel was just so damn tasty. I like me some bagels lol The staff was so friendly. Just a happy place. The restaurant/bakery itself is so homey. It's very small...so if you wanna get there in the morning like so many do...go as early as you can if you wanna sit down. It's very comfortable in there. It's like a cute little cottage and you just kind of expect to see your adorable little grandma come out with the most amazing breakfast ever with her acting all sweet and grandma-like lol. I only wish I had discovered this place the first day we had gotten there. I would have been a regular for sure. What a pleasant little spot. Seriously, I just loved it and highly recommend anyone and everyone go here for their breakfast. They also have lots of like cookies and shit. I was so proud of myself...I held back and didn't get any even though I could have easily bought one of everything lol. Came here for a quick breakfast. We both had a bagel but with different cream cheese. I had bagel with turkey and herb cream cheese. Cream cheese was very bad, I had to scrape it off my bagel. My husband had to do the same. Bagels seem to be pre made and not baked in the bakery. It's weird to call yourself a bakery and not make bagels in the house. I got pumpkin spice coffee which was ok. Place is pretty cute inside. Has some nice tables and pleasant atmosphere. Service is decent, they basically bring food for you and it is pretty much it. read more

I ordered an iced Cafe de Semih (maple blueberry latte) and a Baxter BLT bagel. The iced latte was good, the blueberry flavor wasn't strong but it was just sweet enough for me. This was my last stop before leaving Bar Harbor and it was a delicious note to end on. I got a blueberry latte with almond milk and it was a bit too milk forward in my opinion and I wish the blueberry flavor was a little more prominent. I also just got a plain bagel with egg and sausage since I wasn't super hungry and it really hit the spot. It's what you'd want in a bagel sandwich, so nothing much to say there. This might not be as popular as some cafes in town but wow it's great. The staff was super nice, the coffee was great, and the pastries were tasty. They had lots of stickers and other little things to purchase as well. The latte was great. The ham and cheese croissant was heavy on the ham and so tasty. The pumpkin muffin donut was super tasty. The sticky bun wasn't to my liking but I think that's more about me than them. The chocolate chip cookie was tasty too. Was leaving Bar harbor to go back home, so stopped by to get coffee and some bakery items to bring back home. Picked up a whole blueberry pie - kinda pricy, but it was delicious and was consumed promptly by the family back home. Not too sweet and the crust was not too dry and so buttery.. Also picked up sticky bun.. that just came out of the oven. It had so much butter dripping, it was soaking through the paperbag. Maybe I should have waited a bit longer for it to cool, but it was ok. Had coffee - just the drip coffee, self served. It was ok. Not too great or bad. Also picked up a day old pastry bag - raspberry pastry and some kind of bar, both were great and was very cheap. $2 for a bag that contained both. I didn't stay, but the inside looked very inviting, and nice. If I were staying, it would have been nice place to hang out. very busy even though I went right as it opened. read more

Took a personal day and decided to walk the Old Port. Saw their sign and decided to check it out. They expanded from their Bar Harbor location. They offer personal savory and sweet pies and full size as well. Reasonably priced. Variety of coffee selections as well. Then there is the cinnamon roll. Not too big, so perfect to walk around and enjoy. Let me tell you I could easily go back for more. That was one of the best mini cinnamon rolls ever. Holy crap! Incredible balance is raisins and cinnamon and frosting. Wow. Worth a visit for a nice snack and the staff is friendly and just great people. For my birthday here in Maine, there weren't too many options for me to get cake (sorry but I didn't want to go to Walmart, feel me?). I called 5 days ahead and asked for a 6-inch cake. Then I specified that I wanted a strawberry shortcake. Then asked if there could be chocolate dipped strawberries on top? And a chocolate drip? I'll be honest that when I first saw this cake, I was a bit shocked. The strawberry shortcakes I've had in the past from bakeries were slathered in cream, so I didn't expect a naked cake (which I now know is how strawberry shortcake is supposed to be). Instead of the chocolate drip I envisioned, I got chocolate drizzle with some on the sides of the cake and dolly. But...I will cut Mount Dessert Bakery some slack, because I don't think they often do custom cakes. I really liked the taste of this cake, though my friends found it a bit dense for their taste, and it. was. only. $30! Look how tall this cake is! But after seeing the pastry selection, we knew we had to return the following day to try some things! For coffee, I got the butter beer latte. It was a special that they had. They have a selection of dairy alternatives as well. I opted for almond milk. It is located away from downtown and the tourist area. This small bakery had some serious bakes. My wife went early to pick up various breakfast bakes for our party of seven. At the register, she saw some one day old pastries discounted to $1 each, so she brought a dozen for hiking snacks. Everyone enjoyed the bakes and pastries. Love this bakery! This has been my go-to sandwich shop on my visit to Acadia! Loved the Maine Cuban sandwich and the Baxter BLT. Coffee drink and the iced tea was great too. I recently visited this bakery again and it is still delicious! The atmosphere is adorable (check out the pictures of the family's dachsunds on the napkin dispensers) and original watercolors from Dorothy Lee Boardman Worcester (the owner, Olvia's Grandmother). If I owned a bakery/cafe, Mount Dessert Bakery is what I would want it to look like. It is perfectly decorated, with little knickknacks everywhere and an art lover's dream. It is very cozy, with colorful, cushioned seats and a bright interior. They also had many handmade crafts for sale; my sister and I bought some enamel pins in addition to our coffees! I ordered a Cortado with oat milk, my sister ordered a Cold Brew with Lavender Syrup, and my broth ordered the Oatmeal Cookie Chai Latte. The Cortado was strong and had lots of body, but tasted a little burnt. The Oatmeal Cookie Chai Latte was very strongly spiced, which I enjoyed, but if you don't like cinnamon and spices, this one isn't for you. The Lavender Syrup in the Cold Brew was a little too perfume-y and floral for my taste unfortunately. While it wasn't the best coffee I've ever had, it had great vibes and ambiance, and the barista was friendly (not to mention it's women owned)! read more

Tsk, how off putting that lady behind the cashier was. Her pink hair didn't go with her attitude. As we walked in, she was talking down to a co worker. I walked out and headed to Slice of Eden. But my sisters-in-law stayed to get any of their cakes, or cheesecake. The lady told them that all the cakes( none of them whole) and the only whole cheesecake were all sold. The cake, by the way, was already sliced off, yet it was already sold. Why were they still on display. Lemon bar was too sweet. Coffee was too weak. Maybe that was why she was too cross! The blueberry scones are gigantic and full of delicious Maine blueberries - a must have.
