Revisited 2 Cats after having a great experience there last year but we were really disappointed with the speed and quality of service this year. It was early in the season so I'm sure the staff were getting adjusted but we waited very long to get drinks, get refills, place our order, and eventually receive our food. Tables around us were also experiencing very slow service, their food arriving before drinks, etc. We started to notice that people around us who arrived after we did were finishing their meals before we received our food and after finding our server and checking in, they let us know they forgot to put in our order. Slow service on busy weekends and getting adjusted as staff members happens and we definitely could've overlooked it but the staff did not apologize and none of the items were removed from our bill after waiting over an hour for the food to arrive. When it did arrive, the items were cold and we were eager to finish so we could start our day of hiking. My wife and I enjoyed our breakfast of blueberry pancakes, bacon, and a summer scramble, but agreed we were expecting a little more in the way of elevated ingredients or unique dishes. Everything we got was just fine, but nothing remarkable. Julie was a very pleasant and personable server. If you get a table on the porch, it can be a little bouncy, as the servers and other guests walk back and forth, but it's still a very pleasant place to enjoy breakfast. We were looking forward to trying 2 Cats, but unfortunately the service experience before we even ordered our food caused us to leave. When we arrived, we waited at the hostess stand for several minutes while multiple staff members walked past us without acknowledging us or even making eye contact. After waiting, I went inside to confirm that we were in the correct place and was told that yes, someone would be with us shortly. I returned outside and continued waiting for several more minutes, again while employees repeatedly walked by without any acknowledgment. Eventually, a hostess came to the stand, asked how many were in our party, then walked away to check for a table. She returned a few minutes later and seated us inside. Once seated, the table next to us was discussing how they had been waiting a long time just to place their order and had requested water quite a while earlier but still hadn't received it. After experiencing the lack of attention ourselves and hearing another table describe similar delays, we decided to leave before ordering. I ordered a hot chai latte, which was from a packet (I know this because there was a mound of powder sitting at the bottom of my cup). For my actual meal, I just ordered two over-easy eggs with spicy homefries and they were solid! Not much to say as I got something basic and I got what I needed. I've stumbled onto 2 Cats 12 years ago and thought to myself "Wow! Such great food and fun atmosphere. I was hoping to experience the same thing today. First, positive. The decor is fun, whimsical, and just eye catching. It really feels like you're sitting in a fairytale storybook. The menu has a lot of options, and you don't have to be a lobster lover to enjoy what they have to offer. The bad. We had to get up to speak to the waitress when everyone else who came after us got their food. Not once did she come to check on us. After I confronted her, two of the three dishes miraculously came five seconds later. We checked the food and it was cool to the touch which is very disappointing. This means the food had been sitting at the counter for quite some time. Then she came over to see if the food came with a very sarcastic smile. We asked her about the last dish and she says with a very snarky tone " the food will come out when the food comes out". The last dish did come out and it was hot which proves that they forgot about the last dish and that our other two dishes were just sitting there, waiting. After we got our food, we never saw her again. She never came to ask if you wanted to refill our hot water or coffee. But when we finished our breakfast, she magically popped up with a credit card machine. She automatically included 18% gratuity, which is bonkers. Honestly, I would not have tipped her for the poor service we experienced. And she had the gall to point to another part of the credit card screen, saying "in case you want to tip more". The audacity. The salmon eggs benedict and the lobster benedict was mediocre at best. It might've been better if we received our food hot or if we weren't in such annoyance with the horrendous service. When I revisit Bar Harbor, two cats will no longer be on my top tier to visit. I hope the owners read this because who knows how many of these incidents slipped through the crack. read more

Incredibly delicious Lobster Benedict. Quite possibly one of the best breakfasts I have ever eaten. The lobster was perfectly cooked and the eggs were perfectly poached, hollandaise sauce was bright and the perfect texture. The hostess came over to us and told us to wait outside, and proceeded to shoo us out the front door onto the deck and was tapping my arm while doing so. Very odd behavior- like don't touch me!
