Stopped by and enjoyed the food here with my partner. The food was good although it was not exactly in line with what I anticipated based on the menu. For example: they have a fairly extensive "Mexican" menu with Juevos Rancheros on it, but they don't make ranchero salsa and basically only have Pace style Picante. For this south Texan the salsa/picante/no real Juevos rancheros was a bummer, BUT the salsa they did have tasted great and the service was wonderful. *note: I am a Spanish speaker so occasionally my experience will be different than non Spanish speakers. read more

So we went back again as now we live in the area. My hubby had their beef empanadas, you get 3 in an order. They come with a delicious sauce too. I had an excellent chicken salad sandwich and the chicken salad was freshly made with chunks of moist chicken and celery. Service is always attentive and friendly too. The food here was good, not great. I only had a western omelet, nothing special. The portion was fine, not small but not big, seemed about right. Although the price was a little much, other diners will give you a full plate for the same money. Service was extremely slow. I only saw two servers, but there were only 3 tables with customers. It was a beautiful day and i wanted to sit outside. They seemed unprepared for anyone to sit outside, so they moved some things around, which was not a big deal. We stopped in on our way back home from a wedding. Although there was a street fare going on while we were there, we were sat right away, and the service was good. The menu had a lot of variety to choose from, and I ended up getting a breakfast quesadilla. It was really good. I had a little bit of my daughter's pancake, and it was also very good. Over $35 for a surf and turf, fine but at least give me a bigger piece of meat and flavor it? Three pieces of small shrimps that wasn't particularly good texture or taste. Sirloin cut that was so tiny and thin like it was sandwich meat. I had to salt it myself even though there was some kind of sauce. No vegetables at all! Do t let the name of this place fool you. They are not "the best diner" in my opinion. Third time I ate there and was very disappointed this last time. They are trying to be overly daring with the dishes the offer on their menu. Their chef does not know the menu descriptions and it is misleading and sadly disappointing. An "Oriental salad" should not come with mozzarella cheese and roasted pimentos with a large sprinkling of Chinese dried noodles on top. Also I ordered their matzo ball soup which I thought would be a nice spin on the classic. The matzo ball was like a rock. I could not eat it let alone even attempt to put a fork in it I also order a "salmon burger" which I expected to be a burger made out of salmon, but instead the brought me a decent size piece of salmon filet on a hamburger bun. Someone needs to check the menu and have a sit down with the chef. Their breakfast items are clearly their better items. Buyer beware! read more

This little diner is so cute! The staff was really kind and the food came out hot and quick. I am a picky eater with a basic palate so I got the eggs and sausage and it was really good. My partner got the Spanish steak and the rice and beans were so yummy! Great find, we def would come back on our way through! read more

This was a Indian restaurant since 1986. I was talking to the owner when I was in suffern a few weeks ago. He said they decided to switch over to being a diner. Because of the changing demographics in the area. Suffern hasn't had a diner in the downtown for over 15 years. I went in with a friend after a matinee film at the beautiful Lafayette Theatre up the street. They have a good selection of breakfast items. Raps burgers Panini's for lunch. I decided to get the cheesesteak sandwich with onions and mushrooms. It came out and looked very nice. Real slices of steak inside the fresh soft lightly toasted roll. I opted to try waffle french fries instead of the regular french fries for an up charge of $1.50. The steak was very flavorful and juicy cooked perfectly. The waffle fries were crispy and had a good potato taste inside. Service was very efficient and friendly. This is a great addition to the downtown. Definitely come here and grab some breakfast lunch or one of the dinner entrées. read more

This is a new Suffern restaurant that excites me. It's only 3 weeks old but to escribe it would be a diner that also offers Hispanic dishes. The jury is still out. But I'm so happy that we don't have to drive to Haverstraw to find some Spanish dishes. Best yet they do breakfast with traditional diner food. I wish them good luck and hopes for a successful establishment. This place was a welcome respite of peace after a day at the Route 17 malls! The service was prompt and attentive, and all of our meals were tasty with huge portions. The Best Diner was a pleasant surprise. It was referred to us by a friend and my wife and I were looking for a place to eat dinner in the Suffern area and decided to try our friend's suggestion. The setting and ambiance was casual, very pleasant, clean and relaxing, with decorations current for all the holidays. Soft music was playing in the background without being annoying. Service was very friendly, efficient and very professional; the food was very nicely prepared and plentiful with a great variety. I had a hot beef sandwich, she had grilled salmon. We had a slice of carrot cake; it was one of the best I ever had. The Best Diner is a hidden gem. We have been back several times since and each time had an excellent experience. For a diner, this place was fine. I had a rice with chicken that I could have eaten for two or three meals. It was very good. My husband said the men's toilet was pretty good but not the women's. It is a fairly small place but they utilize the space fairly well. The decor is a little mish-mosh, there is no set theme and none of it matches. Also not a big fan of carpeting. The onion rings were crispy, tasty, and the onion stayed intact when you took a bite. The home fries were cooked well, but they were plain. Most places add a little onion and peppers, and there wasn't a lot of flavor. Same with the omelette, it was cooked well and was a good size omelette, it just lacked flavor. My friend got the nirvana burger, which he ordered medium rare and without the tomato, and he asked for waffle fries with it. The waffle fries were good. Kinda hard to mess those up lol. And the burger was cooked the way he asked, but he was not crazy about the type of bun they used. All in all we felt compelled to write a review because the name of this establishment suggests that we may be raving about it for years to come, and being that we're both from NYC, there would be a lot to compete with. Was this a good place? Yea not bad. Would we eat here again? If our adventures bring us up here again, sure. Is it the best diner? I would say no, it is not the best. I rarely write reviews but had to do this one tonight. If you have not been to "The Best Diner" on Lafayette Ave in Suffern then run to it because it's AMAZING. My husband had the Steak Frites and I had the Hangover Burger and now we are sharing the homemade Flan for desert. The menu is extensive but well planned. Everything is super fresh. Seriously ... the salad that arrived with the Steak was crisp and delicious, my burger cooked to perfection and the steak was so tender. Yum yum yum.... Lots of drink specials too and the brunch on the weekend looks like one we won't miss. read more
