We came here after trying two other pubs in the area after attending Ren Faire nearby. We had our doubts due to the rating on here, but turns out it's a little unfair when you get judged based off a time when you just opened! Very nice ambiance too, wouldve eaten outside but I have noise sensory problems and tend to be a mosquito magnet. This is the old Rhodes North, but redone. The renovations have truly upgraded the environment. The owners are the same from Hearth & Tap in Montvale. Exterior deck is very nice as is the beach and outdoor bar. On busy days they offer valet parking. Most of the staff is new with some from the old crew. Staff could be more accomdating. We went for happy hour which is limited to the bar and restricted to most well drinks. So no outside dining if you would like a happy hour drink. The food is basic pub food limited with less selectiions than the old Rhodes menu. No more giant cake slices, turkey pot pie, double hot dogs. Old retired locals, FDNY/NYPD, crowd is not as present lately which gave the joint a nice feel. It can become crowded during peak hours. Music on the deck is blasting, hard to have a conversation. Had my daughter's Baby Shower at Cooper's Tavern yesterday. Great experience. Wait staff was very attentive and well managed - thank you Eileen! Space was great with a separate area for the buffet. Food was tasty with nice variety of options for our guests. The team helped our vegan guests select food and the waitress helped keep my mom safe as she has a severe chicken allergy. Food itself was a let down, pizza barely had red sauce, toppings and thin crust were burned and tasted as such. Sliders were fine (one stuffed with pickles, second missing any), side salad leaves tasted bitter, sauces on that plate were of confusing taste and application. Most drinks were delicious (uneventful margarita, good espresso martini, spritz and old fashioned ), however ones that came with ice had what looked like 15% of liquid & 85% ice cubes so be prepared to nurse it for a while until ice melts and hope it doesn't take away from the taste like it did with my spritz. read more

Came in for a couple of pre-dinner drinks with my team the Friday before Christmas. We were able to get the whole side of the bar just after opening, and then it continued to fill up. The bartenders were attentive. I had gin and tonics, which were just the right strength. The Cooper's team was also quick to respond to my questions on social media and was very accommodating. I really want this place to be better. We live locally and I understand it hasn't even been open for a year, but I've been there about 7 times and the majority of the time there's an issue with the staff. The food is good and the drinks are fine. It's the staff that needs work. I've waitressed in many restaurants for about 20 years as a side job, and it seems that the staff just needs some more training or supervision. The last time we went we sat outside. Nobody came over for a while. Had to go the bar for drinks. Finally we flagged a waitress over and she agreed to take our table (after an attitude). I'm not sure what was going on but it was happening to other tables outside as well. She looked over at us several times. I'm guessing we weren't in her section, but if we weren't couldn't she or the host have told the server they had a table? Even the host had an attitude when we asked to move spots so the door wasn't opening on us. Smiling and positivity goes a long way in this business. I'm hoping they improve and can do well! There was one very busy bartender and almost a full bar and some scattered tables filled up too. I had the poke tuna bowl it was delicious and hubby had the pork belly /chi Charon it was good too. Today was my first time trying Cooper's since Rhode's closed. My boyfriend and I decided to give it a try on our way home, and I'm not too sure we'll be back. We walked in and waited while another group was being seated, they seemed to be a party of 7. The blonde lady at the front desk didn't greet us as we walked in, and after standing there awkwardly for a little while she finally said hello very curtly. As she brought the other group to their table a party of 4 walked in behind us. The tall lady in the office didn't even look at us, and asked the people who walked in behind us if they were a table of 4 while grabbing menus. She finally looked at us and said are you with the party of 7? We said no. She apologized and sat us - we figured no big deal as it was an accidental oversight. Once we were sat, our waitress came over after a couple of minutes and got us started on drinks. They took a few minutes for a slow Sunday but again, no big deal. She came back over to get our appetizer order, and we decided to keep a menu to order more food. After all of that time, the couple next to us that had been sat prior to us still hadn't even been greeted by their server, who came over after we placed our appetizer orders to check on them (realizing they had never been helped). Fast forward to ordering our mains, he got the brunch burger, I got the corned beef hash skillet, and we ordered *two* bangers and mash to go. The appetizers were good, boyfriend said his burger was good, but my corned beef hash skillet was pretty bland and smelled/tasted metallic? I'm not sure if it was from the skillet or the hollandaise-esque sauce they put on top, maybe it was just me? When we were finished, we had asked for boxes and were assured that the to go order would be coming soon as she waited to put them in so they wouldn't get cold. When our waitress asked if we wanted dessert we said no thank you and grabbed the check. I then realized she only put in one order of the bangers and mash. I asked if she put in one order or two, and I was met with a face, extreme confusion, and "he said he wanted to place *an* order, I didn't realize it was two". He absolutely said two, and "an order" doesn't imply only one thing. If an entire table of four is placing "an order", it doesn't mean they're ordering one item. While she offered to put in the second order, we had already been there long enough and wanted to go. We said it was fine and she ran away. After looking at other reviews I now realize I'm not entirely wrong for feeling that service at Cooper's is lackluster. I work at a restaurant myself and left feeling like that was the worst part about the whole experience, which is a shame. The owner did a beautiful job renovating Rhode's though, so kudos to them for that. read more

4th time trying to like this place and it just keeps getting worse somehow. Today we watched at least 8 people walk out who waited lengthy amounts of time for any sort of service. This was tables and bar patrons. The folks we spoke to at the bar said they went from a table to the bar in hopes of better service and it still fell short. The bartender seemed to be having a medical emergency in which she proceeded to stay behind the bar instead of leaving. This seemed like an episode out of the Twilight Zone. We left after our beer. As did most others. What a tragedy. Will not be back anytime soon. read more

We were greeted and asked if we wanted to see in the bar area or the dining room. We chose a booth in the bar area. Lunch menu looked good with lots of choices. We ordered drinks, Bloody Mary for him and Blue Moon for me. Our server Casey was so great and personable and my hubby said she made a fantastic Bloody Mary too. We shared French dip sliders and the double smash burger that comes with fries. Everything was delicious and the perfect size for lunch. Casey made our lunch that much more enjoyable, we talked about family and everyday life. We will definitely be back...... but only on the day Casey works. I am astounded on how cozy and comfy atmosphere. It's perfect for a girls night dinner a birthday looks very family friendly a very big upgrade from Rhodes. Our waitress was great. Her name was Lisa very attentive in making sure that we were OK. I believe that I met the owner as she's the first face that you see if it is her and she did walk around and asked if everything was fine. We walked out. She also said thank you for coming. She was very comforting very welcoming as well my friend and I sometimes we'll split something tonight was one of those nights and it was a good thing we did. The food was great portioned out as that's the first time I left a restaurant full not like overly full just full definitely a place to take the family friends to enjoy it somewhere you feel like home. After looking forward to finally eating here, we ended up visiting early afternoon for lunch. As first timers to this restaurant we were very impressed on with how nice the atmosphere was inside with a really well put together bar area. We were sat at a very comfortable table near the bar and couldn't have been happier. With that being said, let me start off with the old adage... You can't eat atmosphere and bad service can kill any restaurant no matter how nice..... Our waiter, who couldn't have been more pleasant, was virtually non existent for the duration of our meal. We ordered 2 draft beer and after somewhat of a long wait we were brought the wrong beer. Not a big deal, but after 15 or so minutes of the waiter being no where to be found I had to get up and walk the beers to the bar and exchange them for the right ones. Our order was simple... 2 of the same beers, 1 soup and 2 entrees. The soup took about 25 minutes to come out and at just over 50 minutes the entrees came out, but one of them was not the correct meal. Instead of leaving the right meal and going back to correct the order both plates were taken away. About 10 minutes later, at just over the 1 hour mark, the proper order was served. Now after sitting for an hour, with an empty beer for half that time, I asked our inattentive waiter for a second beer to drink with my meal. Next thing I know he's behind the bar stacking wine glasses. When the simple twist off long neck bottle of beer finally arrives to the table in record slow time it of course is the wrong beer, but at this point it didn't matter to me anymore. Have no fear though.... when the check was delivered he was back 3 times before we could even read it or count out money to pay. As predicted too... we were over charged $1 for each of our 3 total beers but did not have the energy to argue with this waiter over a matter of $3 when we just wanted to leave. So much for popping in for a quick lunch to check the place out. It is unacceptable if you ask me for a party of 2 to sit for an hour and watch individuals who arrived after us to sit and be given proper service, be served in a timely manner, eat, pay and leave before we even got our food. It is also unacceptable to sit and watch the rest of the waitstaff attend to their tables properly while we sit there receiving subpar service. In conclusion, our experience went from texting family upon sitting down about how nice the place is and how we should come here some time to walking out with the feeling its definitely not worth coming back and risking dealing with the aggravation again. read more

Where do I even begin? What an absolutely wonderful experience from start to finish. Our date night with my husband started with valet parking--a huge and delightful surprise that instantly set the tone for the evening. We chose to sit at the bar (our favorite spot on kid-free nights) and were warmly greeted by a friendly blonde bartender whose name I unfortunately didn't catch. She was informative, attentive, and helpful throughout our entire visit. She recommended the specialty Picante Margarita, and wow--I was blown away. It had the perfect balance of spice and citrus and was incredibly smooth. I'll be telling everyone to order it. My husband, a beer drinker, went with the suggested Coopers Lager, which was served in an ice-cold mug--he loved it. For food, we ordered the chicken pot pie and shared the "Bee Sting" pizza. I can confidently say this was the best chicken pot pie I have ever had in my life. Everything was flavorful, comforting, and beautifully prepared. We're so happy to have a local spot that delivers amazing food at such a reasonable price. The vibe was fantastic, the food was outstanding, and the service was flawless. The food is fine, a bit above average. The meatloaf was a bit too salty but otherwise good, and my friend liked his smash burger. Their service, however, is terrible. It's mostly young kids who are clearly not trained well at all. There was a very long wait between being seated and our drink order being taken. Then we were never asked if we wanted another round of drinks. Once our food came we were never asked "how is it?" or checked in with again. We had to flag a different server for the check. The interior decor is lovely with a bar area and fireplace and another separate area for quiet dining. I had a pepperoni pizza which was thin crust and large and a chocolate chip lava cake which was enormous- I would suggest they shrink the cookie part to 1/2 size ala mode and charge 6.95$ instead of having it be large enough for 2 and 9.95$. There were some items like Brussel sprouts and ribs that were not on the lunch menu and only available for dinner that I missed out on and would have ordered as I heard they were also excellent. Extremely disappointing first visit. While we were sitting at our table, the hostess walked by and called us "freeloaders." When we addressed it, she claimed it was "just a joke." We did not know her, it was our first visit, and the comment was completely inappropriate--especially considering our group spent over $1,000. After paying our bill, we attempted to order dessert for our children. When I asked the same hostess for a dessert menu and a waitress, I was met with huffing, puffing, and clear annoyance. From that point on, it was obvious we were no longer welcome and were being rushed out. There were additional issues throughout the visit, but overall we felt disrespected and uncomfortable. I anticipated this place opening for a long time as I watched them give new life to the exterior of the old Rhodes Tavern. It's beautiful outside to say the least. I was somewhat surprised that they had Valet parking ( not common in these parts), but the old motorcycle lot was filled, so no other choice. After parking I was really ready and could not wait to walk in and have a scrumptious meal. I looked online and saw the menu, which seemed well rounded, albeit quite pricey, but reasoned that with the price (and high end Valet Service) would come an awesome experience! I walked in and saw the same Rhodes fixtures and booths. There was a very stale smell in the air and my hopes were tarnished. All well I thought, and waited for my meal. I ordered a Tavern specialty (corned beef). Dried out meat and no fixings at all. I really wanted to like the new place and had an unfortunate experience. I will say they did a beautiful job on the renovation and the outdoor dining is very impressive. However, I guess someone has to pay for that renovation because the menu prices are very expensive. I made the mistake of ordering the Smashburger today and paid almost $20 for two tiny patties, which were even smaller than McDonald's patties. The food was also good, the items seemed to have been made in-house as opposed to being pre-made, which was great considering all the short cuts a lot of restaurants take these days.
