An excellent little coffee shop complete with a drive thru window as well. Came in to a cozy seating area that has great views of the nearby forests, along with take home gifts of many varieties. I ordered a Dutch chocolate Mocha, a blueberry scone, and a cheddar/chive pastry; all were delicious and warmed up even without having to ask. They also had a full menu for breakfast options: breakfast sandwiches, pastries, cereal, bowls, bagels, etc. Right near Donner State Park, it is the perfect spot to walk on over to after going on the trail by the lake. read more

This place has potential but. The building is cool but the main room is cluttered with junk (especially in the corner) and it's not clear which of their product offerings they're still committed to. It's often empty, and yet there's no wifi.. which means it's a lot easier to head the other 10 cafes in town that don't introduce this friction. They microwave the baked goods without asking (my scone was destroyed), and they've done too little with the outdoor area. Coffee is decent, but the employees always look haggard because of the drive-thru. It's just a confusing place, and it doesn't clearly tell you what it wants to be (except a drive-thru coffee place that hates wifi and doesn't fashion a nice seating experience). read more

We stopped by Sherry Pie Bakery & Cafe with a group of five on our way to the Truckee River. We got there a little after 11, so we just missed breakfast, which was a bummer because that's what I was really looking forward to. They did still have quiche available, though, and it ended up being a pleasant surprise. I had the ham and spinach quiche, and it was really good. We also ordered a BLAT, what I believe was a Caprese-style sandwich with pesto, and a couple of iced hazelnut oat milk coffees. The coffee was excellent. I don't like overly sweet coffee drinks, and these were perfectly balanced. The cafe is a little off the main road, so you have to make a quick detour, but it's worth it. Service was quick, and we had plenty of time to grab our food and still make our reservation at the river. I didn't get any pictures because we were rushing to get back on the road, but everything looked fresh and tasted great. Next time I'm in Tahoe, I'll definitely make it a point to get there earlier so I can finally try their breakfast. read more

Okay first off this little girl with dark brown hair and lashes messed up our drinks. She put the wrong flavors but after that we didn't care I gave her some courtesy as it was just one mess up. But then she forgot the avocado on our bagel. When I asked she said, "well I asked if you just wanted cream cheese". Yes, I wanted cream cheese on my NY AVOCADO bagel. We stopped off in here, knowing that we would have to make a purchase in order to use the restroom, so that's what we did. As we pulled up into their parking lot, we noticed right away the nice craftsmanship on the outside seating wood benches in front of the location as you walk inside, which is like walking into your garage from the outside because of the outside appearance, you are greeted by the fabulous aroma of coffee. Nice little cozy area as they have a small section set up with a few armchairs to the right when you walk in, into the left is the counter where you place your food/drink water and to make any of your purchases that are located on the other side of the counter. You can find anything from wine, to souvenirs, to snack snacks as you stroll through this establishment. The small crew here was very friendly and polite and helpful. We chose to place an order for two coffees, one large, black coffee, and one small with cream and sugar, a nice little touch while sitting down and enjoying the view, looking out the window. Very clean establishment, even the two restrooms that they have located to the rear of the business, but still indoors. Saw this from across the way when I had stopped to get gas at the Chevron. I was in dire need of a rest stop and even though I had snacks in the car and things to drink, the frontage of this place drew me in with my curiosity. There is an inviting open concept of the entrance always being open since it is one of those glass garage-like doors that roll up. Picnic benches with shade for seating outside and a few various places to sit inside. If the weather is nice, which it was, it was recommended to check out the Donner Lake which was nearby. I totally would have, but I was trying to make it back home before a certain time. (now I kind of regret not taking a look *insert watery eye emoji*). Everything on the menu here sounded good -- I ended up with a burrito -- the brisket and egg with a side of salsa, an iced water, and a double espresso over ice. I had it for dine-in and had to ask for a to go bag to package the other half of my burrito which was delicious - hot, and hit the spot. The service here is friendly and they guy who helped me could probably tell that I was in need of some nourishment after coming back from the playa. One thing that made my stay short here was that there was a wasp / wasp nest somewhere on the exterior of the building and I am afraid of insects, haha. read more

I just thought I'd take a minute to update my review because I've gotten to come numerous times now and it is by far every time above and beyond my expectations. The salads are great especially the build your oen. It does get a bit spendy but you're getting quality ingredients and it's made very well. And it's freaking huge. There's no way I'm going to finish the one I just got! And The chicken is GOOD! So often the chicken on salads is an afterthought but not here! It's seasoned and juicy! Don't let the picture fool you! The breakfast bowl continues to be one of my favorite things here. Their gluten free sandwiches are also great, again not made as an afterthought. I really like the decaf esspress coffee here too. It's smooth and not too bitter which can often be a problem with decaf. But one of the best things about this place are the people who work here. Two in particular who have stood out each time I've come in are Ethan and Josh. They are so sweet and hardworking. They try and remember people who comes regularly despite how busy this place can get. There are a few other stand out employees, especially the woman who helped me today, but unfortunately I haven't been able to get everyone's name. On a recent visit I believe the manager or owner complimented my reusable cup and said I just needed a different sticker on it and then proceeded to give me a mountain brew sticker lol. You better believe it ended up on that cup when I got home! Despite this shot being on the complete other side of town for me I try and at least come once week or every other week. Really disappointing experience. I ordered the pesto turkey sandwich and it came out completely dry--no sauce at all. When I went up to the counter, they gave me pesto, but the sandwich is also supposed to come with aioli. I had to go back a second time to ask for it, and that's when things got uncomfortable. The chef came out and insisted I was wrong, pointing to the pesto I had just added myself and saying, "see, there's pesto." I explained that I had just been given that, and she rolled her eyes and responded with "well what do you want then?" in a very dismissive tone. I simply asked for the aioli that comes with the sandwich, but she continued to be argumentative and made me feel like I was in the wrong for asking for what I ordered. I ended up just looking down and stopping the conversation because of how confrontational it felt--all over a sandwich. This coffee shop is absolutely adorable and their coffee is really good and definitely worth stopping in for. I was excited to try the food, but my breakfast burrito came out with raw potatoes, which was disappointing, especially at $14. I think with some improvement in the kitchen, the food could really match the quality of the drinks and the vibe of the space. One other thing I noticed when paying was that the tip option was selected for me, which didn't feel great as a customer. Such a cute find! They have the soy milk I like to make a sweeter latte without intentionally adding a sweetener. My favorite part are the AMAZING cups here. This is my dream cupboard with Stitch, Hello Kitty, Pooh, Disney and so much more. Huge breakfast burritos. I mean large. Tons of food options including egg salad sandwich, Leige waffles, and plenty more. I am the type that would prefer to see the pastries when choosing them so that's something they can consider. My expectations were not high for the coffee because it's one of those places that has a little bit of everything- food, drinks, bakery, etc. but I was pleasantly surprised. I had such a great experience at Mountain brew! I went in on my birthday to grab sandwiches with my fiancé and it offhandedly got brought up that it was my birthday. The staff was so sweet. They brought me out a brownie (that was absolutely divine) with a candle while we are waiting for our sandwiches. However, I would suggest that management or the owner speak with employees about being more welcoming when customers use familiar coffee terms. Potatoes were nearly nonexistent, and worst of all, there was no salsa or anything to help cut through the blandness. Two days in a row it was a friendly college girl at the register. Third day was another girl that probably wants to work elsewhere and not with people. The burrito- now I was hungry, and so I enjoyed it, but I'm wondering what the "wet" eggs are about (please don't tell me they're powdered eggs). It was served piping hot, and that is a love language that was appreciated! Salsa was fresh fresh and delicious. The coffee is very good! Much Better than Coffee Bar, I think! Oatmeal is instant stuff. Not enough hot water to stir it into warm comfort. (Hope they change to real oats- just cook it and keep it warm in a crock pot.) Turkey sandwich- I loved it. Chipotle mayo was a nice twist. Just a classic sandwich and it was cut if half. Baked goods are very good. Never got a chance to order the brownie with a marshmallow top. There was a meeting between the managers and an employee at one of the tables. I could hear most of it. Felt bad for the kid- employment mtgs shouldn't be done within earshot of customer. Didn't want to hear, but I did. Fantastic location near Donner Lake camping and next to a hotel. You could ride your bike from the campground to get coffee! It's so nice to have something so close. Tried to go through the drive through, but no one ever got on the microphone. Finally flagged someone down via the window to take our order, they were pleasant and helpful. We ordered a Blended Chai, a Mexican Hot Chocolate, and a couple other drinks. When the drinks came the Chai wasn't blended and the person who handed us the drink called the hot chocolate a mocha. We confirmed it was a hot chocolate with no coffee with the barista and left. Got on the highway and it actually was a mocha . Pretty good mocha, but not what we ordered. Chai was also good, but it would have been nice to get it blended as ordered. Would recommend if you want tasty drinks and are willing to roll the dice on what you actually get. read more
