Monte Cristo sándwich with boysenberry and adult hot chocolate
Michael S.

We loved this place! The wait was long (30-40 minutes) when we went on the weekend so be prepared. There's no check in system you stand in line at the host stand and wait your turn. You also can't call ahead and make reservations or check in. I think this is worth mentioning for families or for people with mobility issues, or big parties, as it gets cramped (and it was cold that day) near the tiny entrance. The place inside is small, as it's an old post office. We sat by the window and faced the water and had brunch. It was priced very well, and our server was extremely friendly and even helped make me a custom drink. Everything we had was delicious and well seasoned. One of the best monte cristo sandwiches I've had! Also, the bathroom is only one toilet which is slightly inconvenient. They had bar seating, table seating, and window counter seating. We opted for the best view in my opinion :) We would definitely come back!!

We love the food. This was the best breakfast place I had for a while. I ordered fried chicken and my sisters ordered egg benedicts. I love the ambiance also service was so fast. Our server was a very nice person. If I ever come here again I'll definitely visit here for a great breakfast

We've heard about the Old Post Office Cafe for a long time, but we have never been in the area at a time we could try it. Today we were, so we decided to stop in for breakfast. Overall. I would say it was overhyped. Here's why: - Decent menu but pretty ordinary for breakfast, and, as expected, the prices reflect today's inflation...even just a basic breakfast plate was close to $20. - My wife and I decided to split both the Breakfast Burrito and the Crab cake Benedict. Home fries are served on the side and we asked if they could cook them extra crispy. We could've swapped them out for fruit at an additional charge. - Portion sizes were quite good. Unfortunately, the crab cakes on Crab cake Benedict was full of bready filler, so much so that it was hard to find any crab. They were also way over fried, and just tasted like a big mound of breadiness when sitting on top of the English muffin (perhaps a bed of spinach would be a better choice than the muffin?). The poached egg was good, but it was a little strange shaped, sort of like a disc...They must have cooked it in a mold. The breakfast burrito was actually quite good. The home fries didn't come out very crispy despite our request and they lacked seasoning, and some of the potatoes seemed practically raw. (I will note that we took them home and re-sauteed them with some onions and salt/pepper, and they tasted much better). - Since we were there on a weekday, it was pretty empty and service was good. Bottom line: We might stop back in the Old Post Office Café if we were in the area and desperate to eat, but there are other places we would go to first.

What a beautiful spot to have breakfast at when you visit Tahoe! The place has this front indoor patio that faces directly the lake. Wholesome! Food was on point. I went twice in the same trip. But the view is the winner!

Great stop along lake in carnelian bay for brunch or lunch. The skiprock chicken sandwich hit the spot.

Good basic food for breakfast. The Cobb salad is HUGE! Joe's scramble is delicious. The fries are the best - nice and crispy. Pastrami sandwich - the pastrami was cut too thick. They need to shave it thin.

Crab cake Benedict after, forgot to take before...

My friend took me here. I had Bloody Mary and crab Benedict, my friend had French toast. First of all the Bloody Mary was huge and I couldn't even finish because the crab cake Benedict was also big!! I should have taken more photos but I started to dig in as soon as the food came. Everything I ordered was good and my friend's French toast looked good too. I would definitely recommend this place for breakfast!!

The Old Post Office Cafe is a charmer with a perfect view of Lake Tahoe. Its a place where locals and tourist eat. Don't be shy, go in and ask for a seat. Sit at the counter and be transported back a few decades. Or nestle up at the countertops in the sun room that overlooks the frontage street. Seating along the window is a perfect place to watch people drive past. The food is a solid 10. The Spinach Omelette with House Potatoes and Wheat Toast was my order for a Saturday morning. The food came hot and each bite was delicious. It was a brisk 35 degrees outside, the hot, black, coffee did it's job waking up my senses and body. The staff was friendly and didn't rush us to leave. We could actually sit, drink another pour of coffee and enjoy some morning conversation. I can see why people make it a stop whenever they're in the area. Good People, Good Food.

What a great breakfast spot in Tahoe! Tried to come early as this place always seems busy and rightfully so. We waited a few minutes and got seated. Our server did let us know upfront it would be a little longer wait due to the number of orders which I thought was very thoughtful. The menu isn't overwhelming-- just the right amount of options. Can't go wrong with a classic breakfast. The eggs tasted reeaallly good! Bacon was crispy and cooked to perfection. The breakfast sandwich really came together with the ingredients! Loved this place. It used to be a post office back in the day and the decor is fun! Casual spot, just what you expect from a Tahoe restaurant. Really enjoyed their food and would highly recommend checking it out next time you are in North Tahoe!

Bloody Mary

Excellent food and drinks! We had the Bacon Bloody Mary and the Ruby Red Pamplemosa for drinks and for food, the Californian Omelette and Country Fried Steak. Highly recommended! It's not a big place so there's a bit of a wait, but it's not a hassle because there are tables and chairs outside at the back of the restaurant where you can sit and relax. The staff make sure you're informed once your table is ready. Great service!

Our favorite brunch place in Tahoe. Service is super attentive and love how it's in a log cabin. Everything on the menu is amazing! My personal fav is the French toast. I absolutely love sitting in the other room to look at the snow during winter. This place is so cozy with such good food. Definitely worth the wait on the weekends!

Inside of the Denver omelet!

Consistent service and food from this local stop! Service was fast and attentive, we will stop by again the next time we are in town. Denver omelet was filled well and tasted great! Breakfast prices are better than the bay area .

This was a quaint little cafe that used to be a post office. The food was good so we would go again if in the area.

We booked a family stay at the Ritz-Carlton, Lake Tahoe for myself, my wife, and our six-year-old…read moreson. A few days before our trip, our son was diagnosed and tested positive for RSV. I called and asked for a reservation modification given the circumstances, and I was completely open to alternative solutions: a date modification, Marriott Bonvoy points to rebook on our own, a refund, or anything reasonable. We just wanted some flexibility. What followed was the usual runaround. We called the Ritz-Carlton directly, they told us they couldn't help because we booked through American Express. So we called Amex, whose concierge team was empathetic and professional. They reached out to the Ritz-Carlton on our behalf. After waiting 24 hours and following up, we were told that Ritz-Carlton management responded via email and declined to allow modifications to the reservation and still expect us at the property unless we pay a $750 cancellation fee. We presented a positive diagnosis of a contagious virus, were willing to accept any reasonable accommodation; a date change, points, anything, and the answer was no. This raises a serious concern beyond our personal frustration. If the Ritz-Carlton would rather a family show up carrying a contagious virus than accommodate a date change, what does that say about their commitment to the health and safety of their guests and staff? How many other sick guests have they pressured to check in rather than lose a night's revenue? What about employees who may face the same inflexibility when they're ill? For a brand that markets itself as the gold standard of hospitality, this experience seems like the opposite.

When you book a stay at a high-end luxury resort, you expect top-tier service, exceptional dining,…read moreand attention to detail. Sadly, this property fell far short of those expectations. Dining Experience Extremely Underwhelming There are three dining options on-site: * A Mexican restaurant that operates essentially like fast food you stand in line, order at the counter, receive a number, and seat yourself. Paying over $100 for what amounted to street tacos of fast-food quality felt unreasonable and excessive. * A lobby restaurant with average offerings. * A so-called "fine dining" restaurant that was far from fine dining in both quality and execution. For a resort at this level, the culinary experience should be a highlight, not a regret. Breakfast Buffet - A Complete Letdown The breakfast buffet was honestly the biggest rip-off we've experienced at a five-star resort. The food was stale and cold, the selection was minimal, and even basic items like croissants tasted old. After paying over $200, we left basically with half a latte and the kids having hot chocolate. We returned to our room hoping to order room service only to be told we couldn't place an order until 11:30 AM. Service & Facilities The staff members themselves were friendly and polite. However, the overall service was consistently slow. There were also noticeable issues in the room: * Cloudy water from the sink and bathtub. * Low water pressure in the shower. For a property positioned as a luxury destination, these details matter. Another reason we booked this hotel is I read this resort is very family friendly and accommodating for children. We do have two small kids however any time we tried to go to the kids club no one was there. We had to ask multiple staff where was the kids activity and no one could answer. Then some of the events got canceled with no replacement or activity for the kids. The hotel was filled with families and many kids all around. The only reason I'm giving two stars instead of one is because the staff remained courteous, and during our visit there was a snowstorm for two of the days, which understandably led to some understaffing due to road closures. That said, weather-related challenges do not excuse the quality of food, pricing structure, or basic room standards. At this price point, expectations are high and they should be. Unfortunately, this stay did not deliver the luxury experience we anticipated.
