Cute local brunch spot serving up huge plates! The portions here are huge and very filling. I got the hangover plate because I wanted to try the biscuits and gravy, though the gravy was super thick and it felt really heavy after a few bites. It also masked the biscuit / made the biscuit soggy. The sausage underneath was good though, and the potatoes were nice for cutting through the heaviness of the rest of the meal. I got over medium eggs which were runny and delicious. I also tried the waffle, which came as a side for the postmaster plate and it was yummy! Very flavorful, not dry, and a great savory sweet option with the salted butter and maple syrup. Server was quick and food came out very fast. Vibe inside was bustling and lively on a Sunday morning. We loved this place! The wait was long (30-40 minutes) when we went on the weekend so be prepared. There's no check in system you stand in line at the host stand and wait your turn. You also can't call ahead and make reservations or check in. I think this is worth mentioning for families or for people with mobility issues, or big parties, as it gets cramped (and it was cold that day) near the tiny entrance. The place inside is small, as it's an old post office. We sat by the window and faced the water and had brunch. It was priced very well, and our server was extremely friendly and even helped make me a custom drink. Everything we had was delicious and well seasoned. One of the best monte cristo sandwiches I've had! Also, the bathroom is only one toilet which is slightly inconvenient. They had bar seating, table seating, and window counter seating. Great food! Nice open-floor concept. The service was horrible though. With an exception to the hostess, the entire staff seemed like they made commission from not smiling. Our server had zero communication about the dishes and up-charges. The expo staff literally dropped our dishes and when my someone at our table attempted to ask a question, they muttered something incoherently and kept walking away. The food at Old Post Office was really good Unfortunately, the customer service completely ruined the experience. The lady with the red hair was rude from the start and seemed irritated by simple questions. At one point, she got visibly upset and threw a plate down on the table, which felt very unprofessional and uncomfortable. She seemed annoyed when we asked a question about an item on the menu. Then our food took 53 minutes to arrive, and they even forgot one of our orders. We've heard about the Old Post Office Cafe for a long time, but we have never been in the area at a time we could try it. Today we were, so we decided to stop in for breakfast. Overall. I would say it was overhyped. Here's why: - Decent menu but pretty ordinary for breakfast, and, as expected, the prices reflect today's inflation...even just a basic breakfast plate was close to $20. - My wife and I decided to split both the Breakfast Burrito and the Crab cake Benedict. Home fries are served on the side and we asked if they could cook them extra crispy. We could've swapped them out for fruit at an additional charge. - Portion sizes were quite good. Unfortunately, the crab cakes on Crab cake Benedict was full of bready filler, so much so that it was hard to find any crab. They were also way over fried, and just tasted like a big mound of breadiness when sitting on top of the English muffin (perhaps a bed of spinach would be a better choice than the muffin?). The poached egg was good, but it was a little strange shaped, sort of like a disc...They must have cooked it in a mold. The breakfast burrito was actually quite good. The home fries didn't come out very crispy despite our request and they lacked seasoning, and some of the potatoes seemed practically raw. (I will note that we took them home and re-sauteed them with some onions and salt/pepper, and they tasted much better). - Since we were there on a weekday, it was pretty empty and service was good. Bottom line: We might stop back in the Old Post Office Café if we were in the area and desperate to eat, but there are other places we would go to first. read more

What a great breakfast spot in Tahoe! Tried to come early as this place always seems busy and rightfully so. We waited a few minutes and got seated. Our server did let us know upfront it would be a little longer wait due to the number of orders which I thought was very thoughtful. The menu isn't overwhelming-- just the right amount of options. We watched the tables who were seated before us get their food, and it was a slooow process. We had to leave before our food came out so I can't comment on the food. It's not a big place so there's a bit of a wait, but it's not a hassle because there are tables and chairs outside at the back of the restaurant where you can sit and relax. Do not eat here. the service was so slow. They served my husband way before serving me. They did serve me my toast but made we wait so long for my omelet that my toast was cold and hard. My husband was almost done eating when I finally received my omelet. As I watched other people get served, I realized that I was not the only one. It was like their system was to serve 1/2 of a table, then after much time, serve the other 1/2 of that table. To top it off, the food was bland. It had no flavor at all. There is no view of the lake so the scenery wasn't even a distraction. There are so many other places in North Tahoe at which to eat that have better views, service and food. This was a very nice hidden gem we came across while staying in north Lake Tahoe! It is small, so seating is limited for tables, but there is a counter space. The servers were nice and patient with our large group. The food was very good! I had the Belgian waffles with bacon and eggs, it tasted like a nice homemade meal. I stumbled upon the Old Post Office Cafe while in the area and it immediately jumped to the top of my breakfast spot list. The pancakes are so fluffy and flavorful, primed for some real maple syrup. The eggs, sausage patties and potatoes hold up there end of the bargain as well. The inside is a little cramped but decorated with some neat stuff. What is probably the best though is the big outdoor patio and entertainment stage to enjoy the beautiful Tahoe outdoors while shoveling pancakes into your mouth. read more

I'm surprised at the reviews I read that said how great this place is. We had a never return kind of experience. Two of our meals came out. 5-10 mins later 2 more. They had completely forgotten an entire meal on our order. Then, when we finally got the food, it was not what was ordered. We ordered crispy potatoes and they were frankly still quite raw. The eggs on the Benedict were so overcooked they appeared to be made in a microwave poached egg maker. Effectively had boiled eggs on the Benedict's. Probably one of the worst breakfasts we have ever had. Sharing this because 4stars and these rave reviews are very misleading. Skip it. It's loud, the food was terrible. read more
