I had left a beautiful review for this business. I was satisfied when they serviced my home. But fast forward to 2023 and all I have to say is that this business is absolute trash! If I could give this business "0" stars I so would. I made an appointment to have my chimney serviced for cleaning. I was given a date and a time. I canceled all of my plans in order to be present. The slot I was given was between 12PM - 2PM. I waited and waited. I called and no one answered. I left multiple voice messages and till this day no one has returned my call. Overall, I would never do business irresponsible adults like these. They had a customer for life. I decided to take my business elsewhere and this person answered when I called, scheduled for the same day, arrived earlier than the scheduled time. If you want irresponsible people, stick with folks. If you want better, let me know where I took my business. read more

Ugh! Spent an entire day waiting on Jim to show up. Then he "inspected " my fireplace and told me there were too many issues wrong for him to actually clean it. He said he'd email a list of repairs, and parts needed. He never did. He did make sure to tell me he was on his way to another job though. Thanks for wasting my time by not making it to your appointment on time ( or even close) and not following through. At least he didn't charge me. Jim at Mountain Chimney Sweep is the real deal! After recently buying a place on the mountain, one of the things the home inspector said to me was that we NEEDED to have the chimney inspected because it looked like it needed some repair. Every other company was booked solid for 4-6 weeks so I looked some more and found Jim. Jim responded quickly to my call, made an appointment 3 days later and when he was running a bit behind, he let me know he would be a few minutes late. When he arrived, his demeanor and manner made me instantly like him. He was professional, straightforward and friendly. He laid down some cling plastic to cover his path in and out of the house, he explained what he was going to do and then got to it. Good news the chimney is in fantastic structural condition. Bad news, the guts of the chimney are in bad shape. After the inspection was done, we talked options, prices and he never once said...yes I can do it. His first recommendation was to call other folks to find a quote that I was comfortable with. Heck no, I am comfortable with Jim and he'll be getting the work as soon as I am able to have it done. Fast, friendly and comprehensive service by a licensed and honest guy. Really, no way I can improve on this situation. Jim was fantastic and his service was second to none. Unreliable scheduling, communication, appointments and took $1750 for work never started. Get ready for excuses. I contracted with Jim to do a chimney liner and new cap after a storm knocked down the top of our chimney. We agreed to the job in March 2022 and the estimated completion was to be in May or June. We gave him a deposit of $1750 for the liner and cap. After multiple excuses and delays, he no longer returned calls or rescheduled to start our job. I continued to call, send texts and emails and he has never responded. I have requested the return of the $1750 by all three methods, because after 2 months past the completion date estimate, and lack of communication and follow up in our opinion he was unwilling or unable to do the job. My family is out $1750. We used Sweeps Luck and they finished beautifully in one month. I'll update this post with any further developments. read more

I scheduled an inspection with Jim through the Yelp app and we scheduled a 2 hour window where I'd meet him at the property. To meet him there it was an 1.5 hour drive for me so I scheduled my entire day around meeting him there and being at the property. 30 minutes before the scheduled arrival window they message me saying they need to reschedule. I called and spoke with Jessica and kindly informed her that I was already in Big Bear and that the only reason I'd come up the mountain today was for this appointment. I asked if there was anyway they can still come and she responded saying, "Yes we should be able to make it work, I'll call Jim and call you back." I waited an hour and finally called her back, no answer. I also messaged them through Yelp to ask whether we were sticking to the original window of time (honestly I would have been okay with moving it back a couple hours so I wouldn't have wasted a trip) but I never got a response. It's really sad to see a company who has no regard for their customers time and couldn't even bother to give me that call or message me back. Response to Jim's response: The appointment was for 10am. You asked for the address at 9:30am the same day. Not sure why you didn't ask for it the previous week when the appointment was made. By the time I was off the road I have you guys the address at about 10:05am and that's when I was told they wouldn't be able to come out initially. I had Jim come out to do a chimney sweep and an inspection. He did a great job on getting our fireplace swept. Jim was the most honest person I've met when it comes to giving advice. I had some leaks on my chimney pipe that another company installed and pretty much stole my money for their crappy installation. Anyhow, Jim told me exactly the material I needed and steps I needed to do. After these couple of snow storms and rain. It's fixed!!! Definitely recommend Jim and his company. read more

No Showed TWICE. I contacted this company and provided a couple days I would be up to Big Bear during the week to schedule my chimneys swept. To my surprise Jessica offered they could come out in a couple of Saturdays if that would work. I happily accepted the date and time they stated and we confirmed the payment they would accept. We drove up the mountain that morning for our Saturday apt and they did not show. I called the phone number for the company and it states to leave a message but the voice mail was full. I went through the Yelp reviews and saw the owner said they changed their number and I called the number he left another customer. That number was not in service. I texted the owner's cell number from his business card and did not hear anything back. Sunday the next morning around 8am Jim the owner texted me back stating he showed his person showed up and did the job but there was no payment. I explained we were here all day waiting and no one showed up. Jim stated he could be over around 11am when he finishes up on a project. I was very excited and stated we will be here and happy he could come over. At 12:30 I called Jim to see where he was and his cell went straight to voicemail with his message stating leave a message and he will return your call. After the beep the voicemail states "This phone does not accept messages". I texted him asking for his ETA and he stated it could be another hour or so and if I will be willing to pick another day for him to come out. I declined and will attempt to find another company. I would be very cautious using this company unless you have unlimited time to be there when it works for them. read more

Sadly, I feel compelled to update my original review so that I don't mislead people. We had Mountain Chimney Sweeps clean and inspect our chimney last fall. They were were so responsive and did such a great job I wanted to have them back to address some issues with our chimney that required fixing. After several missed appointments to have them do the work, I am giving up and moving on to another company. The last straw was a no-show a couple of weeks ago, even though I received a confirmation text message from them the day of the appointment. I waited for them to reach out with some explanation, but they remained silent. I finally sent a text saying "Hey, are you going to come out to go that repair?" No reply. They totally ghosted me. It's a shame, because they did such a good job the first time I used them (that's why I at least gave them a couple of stars). Sadly, I can no longer recommend this company. read more

I've had the same experience as one of the other reviewers. Jim walked off with a $1000 deposit and immediately flaked out what he said he would do and hasn't answered requests to return the deposit. Turns out a 50% deposit is not legal for a licensed contractor and a handyman can only charge $500. I also checked https://www.cslb.ca.gov and there is no record of a contractors license for this business. No work was done, no contract was provided or signed and I haven't been given a reply to the request to return the deposit. Really sad that someone who claims to be licensed treats people this way. read more

MOUNTAIN CHIMNEY SWEEP - Jessica (Jim's partner) performed the chimney sweep at my cabin. Jessica was professional, competent, and thorough. She was extremely careful to cover the floor and rugs with plastic, and after sweeping the chimney, left the cabin without a trace that she had just removed loads of ash, creosote, and grime from my wood stove chimney. Jim's work: This was a new wood burning stove installation with new tubing and chimney cap. Jim said he repaired bricks, which I paid extra for, they are still very loose. No protective screen on what should have been a new installed cap, however this one is much older! Also, bricks are just set over open hole, metal base also very loose. This job was done this year but I didn't go up on my roof, only now because the rain is coming in! I trusted Jim, paid him in full. This is terrible!! He said he forgot to come back and finish the job. Not true! He used an old cap with no screen when I paid $1420. for new supplies/labor, without the cost of the stove, I ordered the stove separately. It's also missing a finishing collar between piping and metal plate outside. I paid $250 to have loose bricks at top to be mortared, they are just sitting completely loose around top edge of chimney! I paid for double wall insulated pipe, $600. The piping he used is $140 at Home Depot, and it NOT double insulated. As it stands I have to hire another company to fix this mess, it's done completely wrong with used supplies!! I won't have Jim fix it because the work is done too poorly, I don't feel it's safe at all the way he left it! Very unprofessional!! read more

Don't call or use them, solely owned by Jim. He listed items that needed repair but after having the fire department reviewed what was listed they informed me some items listed were not necessary. He didn't show up at 10am for the morning appointment, he came to my house late at night demanding that I go to an ATM to get him cash since he needed "cash flow" for Christmas. He wouldn't leave my house I was alone (5'2" woman) that night he didn't do any repairs but had already cashed my deposit of $672. and was demanding cash for repairs that were not done. He damaged my new fireplace doors and jammed the flu shut. The fire department and sheriff had to come out to my place the next day. He is mentally unbalanced, appears to have some type of substance abuse problems which is why he misses appointments shows up late at night unexpected without having materials for repairs. Don't use Mountain Chinemy Sweep unless you want problems and to be ripped off he should not be in "business" and wasting your time and stealing your money for his leisure. read more
