On an early cold Christmas morning with the stockings hung by the furnace with care, hoping Santa would bring me lots of Amazon and Starbucks cards. I awake with a sound of not what I liked. Not of some reindeer on my roof, but the sound of the Carbon Monoxide alarm ringing in my ear. My 70 year old mother with us for Christmas was startled in her room. What's going on around this place? So, I called M&M Mechanicals and Dean was out the next day and replaced some filters, cleaned both burners and replaced a condensation pump. Shame on you! I called to have the filter, near the top of our cathedral ceiling replaced. Quentin arrived on time and put on booties tho I told him it wasn't necessary. He quickly removed the filter and I asked him about moving the filter down to the unit for ease of replacement. He told me what modifications would need to be made to the exhaust pipe to make room for the new filter tray and gave me a quote which I approved. Before doing the work, tho, he scheduled a heater cleaning and inspection to verify that the heater was working properly before they performed the mod. Sure enough, there were cracks in the heat exchanger. He did not just ask me to take his word, but shined a light outside the exchanger and took a picture thru the tube, to show me the light thru the crack. We discussed the possibility that the heat exchanger could be replaced, and he called multiple suppliers, but my heater was too old and no longer supported. So then I asked about whether to replace the heater with another lower efficiency heater or whether to install a more efficient one. That would require a new vent up n thru the roof. I also asked about an eco-friendly heat pump and he was knowledgeable and informed on them as well. I have a home warranty company, so I called them to get authorization for the heater replacement. Unfortunately, Bear Valley Plumbing and Heating was not on their list of associated providers, so I had to go with another company. I had signed preliminary documents with BVP&H and Quentin assured me that they'd try hard to procure the replacement before the Thanksgiving holiday. The approved company was not nearly as professional, nor helpful. He said it would be at least a week after T-day before a heater could be brought up to Big Bear. In the meantime we have to suffer with electric room heaters. Bottom line: I was very impressed and appreciative of Quentin's professionalism, knowledge, thoroughness, and especially his patience while explaining the options and answering my questions. After all that, BBVP&H did not charge me a penny. Quentin set a high bar in the above areas, one that is hard to match in a service person, and one that every person in need wishes to find when they open their front door. Thanks, BBVP&H. I msged him this morning to reconfirm our appt. no call, no show and he doesnt answer the phone after many attempts.. This is extremely rude and unproffessional when we've waited an 3 hrs for him. I had a wonderful experience. My friend recommended this company highly and I had a wall heater that wasn't working so I called. I called at 8pm and was scheduled for a 8:30 appointment the next morning. A "pilot generator" replacement solved the problem. The very articulate, conscientious technician, named Chuck, mentioned that forced air heaters installed by someone from down the hill might not be "derated." I had 2 which he checked and found that one was ok and the other needed adjustment for the thinner air at 6,500' altitude. He completed the work efficiently. Be aware that there is another company with a very similar name but this "heating" only company is superb if what you have is a heating issue. read more

Tony knows his business. Our high efficiency furnace stopped working in late afternoon...the error codes pointed to the pressure switch or maybe the igniter. When he took the access panel off, the furnace started up... He then noticed a lot of debris in the combustion area...mice. The air supply pipe had been colonized from the outside entry all the way to the furnace, @20'; and was totally obstructed. He then spent 2 hours over 2 days, and no parts, cutting and removing the PVC pipe to vacuum out all the nesting material; and making the air entry point mouse proof. He also checked a couple of other things to make sure there were no other potential problems. I considered his hourly charge reasonable. read more
