Great food in a convenient location. Everyone is friendly. The sandwiches are generous and the prices are reasonable.

This place has quality products, they are nice and fast but the rolls are terrible! I would go there more if the rolls were better!

Going in the place you would think cheap deli. But this is the opposite. Love small spots but I'd rather get a sandwich from jersey mikes

Highly recommend the Italian sub with O&V, onion, tomato and very hot cherry pepper relish. Just perfect.

An excellent way to ring in my Womb Exit Anniversary. My top-tier chum who literally went to the…read moreschool of hospitality brought me here last Sunday for a birthday dinner. I picked it knowing the solid rep of Jessica's Cafe in Plainfield, so I can't say I was stunned to find out this was awesome - but given the expectations coming in, this probably even slightly exceeded them. Pretty cool. This was literally my first time in Fanwood, unless you count taking the Raritan Valley Line through here to Hunterdon County back in the day (I don't think it counts). The weather was a little iffy throughout the day, which I'm assuming played a factor in the town feeling a little desolate when we showed up. It reminds me a lot of the Newport neighborhood in JC - super, super gentrified. Maybe it's just the section where Jessica's is though, right across the street from the train station. We parked over there, not entirely sure if that was naughty or not, but given our outdoor seating, we easily could have peeped a cop or tow truck driver before anything terrible happened (I think it was fine, given it was a Sunday night). All that to say though, I'm not entirely sure where the ideal parking is if it's not at the train station. We were only in the restaurant for a minute (enough time to ogle a fridge or freezer of tasty looking meat to the right of the entrance), so I can't speak to the spiffiness of the interior. Even though rain was a possibility, it seemed worth the risk to stay outside due to the temps and large umbrellas. No regrets in that regard. We were seated promptly and ordered shortly thereafter, while also receiving some decent bread and butter with a bit of olive oil drizzle. Quite tasty. Somehow it's become an informal tradition, but if it's on the menu we usually get the Grilled Octopus. One of the better ones we've had. Nice and crispy (texture to me is the key to this one) and seasoned well. The accompanying potatoes were a nice touch to the proceedings - would totally get this again. A lot of the other apps looked good too, but someone accidentally made me birthday weenies on the grill earlier, so I couldn't get QUITE as frisky as I normally would. Both of us gave the lamb a long, hard look (and my chum wondered aloud about the ribeye special for the rest of the evening - possibly the one that got away) but I ultimately went with my classic Short Ribs entree. Delicious. Tender, flavorful and the perfect serving size. I was a little nervous that a puree versus mashed would mean the potatoes were too wet or liquidy, but not the case at all - they maintained their relatively solid integrity as far as I was concerned. I forgot to take a picture of dessert, but I got the Creme Brule. Also excellent, and at the perfect temp. I think there may have been a birthday musical accompaniment with that, but it's all a blur. Arguably just as good if not better was the service. Our waiter was super personable and professional, stopping by regularly and just added a hospitable touch to the meal that brought this to the upper echelon for me. Service is king, and it matters - you can't take for granted the ability of your server to essentially riff for two minutes on their menu knowledge, as well as just good-natured banter. Had that in spades. Coming back for sure - Womb Exit Anniversary or not.

The restaurant is small and comfy, with 4-seat tables lined up against one wall and the opposite wall being taken up by a counter and counter seats. Pictures of food hang on both walls and four brown ceiling fans hang from the ceiling. The restaurant's color scheme is very "latte", as the main colors are white and beige and only one part of the wall is red. Daughter ordered the fried flounder with 2 over easy eggs and grits with wheat bread. She said that the fish was nicely fried and crunchy. It didn't need tartar or cocktail sauce. She said it was her first time eating a breakfast item like this and her taste buds had never felt this sensation before. LOL. Hubs ordered the pinto con chorizo with sunny side up eggs. The server warned him that the sausage was spicy, but he didn't care. When we came here, Hubs didn't expect Hispanic food for brunch and was so surprised and so happy. He found the first item that he can see and translate and was happy he did. The chorizo had a nice spunk to it. He was happy that he got rice and beans instead of home fries and what a delightful change! The chips were also nice and crispy. Lastly, I had waffles with mixed fruit. I LOVED my waffles because it was nice and crunchy. The mixed fruit were bananas, strawberries, grapes and blueberries. They were a nice touch. I was asked if I wanted whipped cream and I said yes. Coffee was freshly brewed and it was nice and strong. It wasn't ordinary diner coffee. Hubs was happy about getting his cup refilled. Service was fast and really friendly. The waiter was always smiling. Parking is street parking. When we were there, it was free parking. Neighborhood was a bit sketchy, though. We were thinking of checking out the flea market across the street but changed our minds. Glad we got to try this place! Maybe one day, we'll be back.

The table wasn't cleaned before we sat down, and we were given the wrong specials menu, which we found out after we tried to order something from it. We were also brought the wrong coffees, but drank them anyway (still tasted delicious). However, our server was friendly and checked in frequently, and all of our food was delicious. I chose the goat cheese frittata, which was packed with cheese and mushrooms! My mom had the cannoli french toast (more like a dessert than breakfast, but so worth it), and my dad had the biscuit sammy with sausage. His only complaint was that there was too much hot honey on his sandwich that it drowned out the other flavors. My mom and I both loved our food. Overall, I would give this place another try, just come very close to opening to try and beat the crowd.

Ok, now to the food: We ordered Bibb Salad - great!!!, the bbq wings (ask them to make them bbq style vs Peruvian) - awesome wing, but the bbq sauce was all gas - a 10 - Loved it! They are also known for their burger, which was solid, Steak Sandwich was also good, but the burger was def the better choice! This time, the food was ok (relatively mediocre), but i cannot return because we found a mouse under the kids' seats after finishing dinner. We thought they were joking or making it up bc they're young and tend to play make believe but then after my daughter confirmed she wasn't making it up, I looked under with my phone flashlight. Lo and behold, a little mouse chomping away at a trap. Which means they know about the problem. I feel sick to my stomach because you just don't know if the mice are crawling around on the tables at night, on the dishes, in the kitchen, etc. Sorry to say, but I won't be returning.
