I recently moved from Palo Alto where, as a life-long resident, I had established good business relashionships, including car repairs (I used Jim Davis, Auto Repair for years and was spoiled with his excellent service, attitude, prices, etc.). Now that Boulder Creek is my permanent home, I wanted to find a good car repair center. Someone had recommended Chris, with Mountain Mechanics, and it was only a couple weeks after moving here that I needed repairs on an urgent basis (my car totally konked out, wouldn't turn over and I was right in the middle of Hwy 9). It was towed to Mountain Mechanics and Chris and his mechanic (name ?) found the problem (alternator) and did the repairs in a timely fashion for a very reasonable price. I've had a couple other occasions to use Chris and I write this review with a top rating because I am confident in both his work and pricing. He also referred me to a taxi service that was very accommodating and reasonably price (Sharon is her name and she works here in Boulder Creek. She too, by the way, earns top rating - a wonderful person and accomodating) Chris has a good attitude, is friendly, reliable, and to me, customer-service-wise, he earns the highest rating. Very good shop! I used to work on all my vehicles years ago, but no longer have the time, so have used Chris for a number of years now. Honest, good prices, does a great job and doesn't do unnecessary work (which is hard to find these days). A lot of times I don't even see the guy, I'll just call ahead of time, tell him what needs fixing, drop the car off in front after hours, leave the key in the drop box and he calls me with an estimate and what needs to be done. When it's finished, I give him my visa number over the phone for the final total and he leaves the car out front with my spare key and invoice locked in the car. Very convenient. read more

I I have been going here for 10 years. It has been great. My only complaint would be that Chris takes the approach of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" when I might wish to be a bit more proactive. That said, a few years ago a Subaru dealership tried to get me to put in new water pump (when the car had 60K miles and it hadn't failed). I refused, and finally got Chris to do it at 90K (at a much better price too). He's been working all our cars forever, and I rue the day when I move away from here and have to look for a new mechanic - I know I won't find one that I can work with like him! Also, he listens to what I say - I have been used to men looking at me (female) and paying no attention to me when I am trying to describe issues that need repair. He keeps better records on the cars than I do. read more

This is a late review but a honest one. I had Jiffy Lube (stupid I know) do a oil change for me and 2 days later I had the check engine light come on. I am thinking ohh great just what I need. I have my own code reader so I know it was something not great but not super bad. When I went in to have it fixed and narrowed down the problem I expected a much larger bill than I did. Not only did they have is fixed in a few hours from drop off it was under $50 bucks. It was a hose that Jiffy Lube have messed up near the air filter. I did have to wait a week for a appointment because they are busy, but it was totally worth it. read more

These mechanics are honest. I'm so thankful for their honest service. My Honda Accord wouldn't start. My boyfriend tried to fix it. My brother tried too. Even my uncle. No luck. AAA towed it here. Had it fixed in 3 days. Love these guys. Very very honest. read more

If I were you I'd be very careful about going in here I took my truck in for a break service And tune up charge me over $1000 and did not do the brake job correctly here it is less than one year later I've already had that my brakes redone the rotors replaced which she did not even check so my advice again I'd be very careful about going in here and get two or three estimates before you mountain mechanical do the work on your car read more

Chris and his guys are the equivalent of Alexander's (maybe in a slightly less fancy setting). I've been bringing my Focus here for a while, and now need I have to move to the East coast. I left the car to see what it needed, and instead of doing a bunch of work, Chris said it was time for new wheels. All I paid was the price of a new battery (got to start it a few more times). He could have done a lot of work on the car and sent me on my way, but....Oh My! Honesty prevailed. I even got an excellent referral for my next car. left my house on bear creek toward 9 today ready for a busy day. The horrific noise and grinding and screeching from my front tires/brake area didnt bode well for the day. Well i remembered seeing Mountain Mechanics (and recalled they were always busy s thats a good sign)...so I took a quick right on Big Basin and pulled right over...I approached DANA who was busy working and I said, "I am in big trouble and I dont know what is wrong..sounds like my brakes". This nice guy said, "pull it in..Ill put it up and take a look...sounds like a rock got stuck in/around the brakes..." Dana jacked it up and in five minutes, called me over and said, "look at this.." pulled out a tiny rock. THIS GUY was amazing kreskin...if I need any fortune telling Ill go to him. LOL. Diagnosed it even before he had proof of what it is. Thanks Dana for saving my sanity. When something REALLY goes wrong Ill go to Mountain Mechanics! read more

very disappointed, he charged my wife $75.00 to change a headlight bulb on my wife's truck, and she brought the bulb with her. i was out of town so i couldn't do it for her. she didn't know any better so she paid it. when i got back i checked it out and it took me all of 2 minutes to pull it out and put it back.....he must have a 1 hr minimum is all i can think. then about a year later i took in some tires to be mounted and balanced...i dropped them off with one of the guys and was told to come back in a couple hours to pick them up. so i came back and Chris told the guy not to mount them cause the tires where used. no one called to let me know that they where not going to be able to service me until i went back to pick them up big waste of time........LAME read more

Chris is an honest mechanic and he'll work with you. He'll also tell you what he reccomends - take his advice. He is usually swamped between people dropping their cars off and picking them up and trying to answer his phone, but somehow he squeezes you in and finds out exactly what your car needs. The drop off with the key in the door makes it very convenient to get your car worked on. The other guys who work there are also friendly and hepful. read more

Took my car to get shock bottom bushings replaced due to squeaking!!( left side shock bushing was the bad one so i decided to replace both) i was told the price right away...after few hours a was called with different price stating that they have to do more what a was told the first time$$$. Got my car same day. two days of driving my right side started squeaking it was weird cause i told him both side need to be replaced..went back told him about it he said i bought my own parts so no warranty but told me his mechanic will look quick maybe it needs to get tight more..so he gets down with impact gun and starts tighten without any concern of the power of impact gun on the shock. so i drive off and few hours later its even worst then before but just right side not left. when i got home i was gonna spray some stop squeak spray and i noticed my shock is cracked where he used the impact gun on the bolt(should been torque wrench to use not impact) I bought new shocks and took my car to friend garage to get them changed..Guess what right side bushing was not replaced only left side. It was clear as day the only left side was replaced. after paying more than $400 dollars...i was gonna take him to court and hassle with that but i just decided to do this review. If I could have given no stars I would have. They took forever in an attempt to fix my car. They said they had to drive the car for several miles to see why it would overheat. They ran $70 dollars out of my gas tank and never fixed anything. I spent hundreds of dollars and a lot of time there. They overtightened and broke the hose clamps as well. They wouldn't listen and thought the whole thing a big joke. I finally took my car to Henrys Automotive Repair in Ben Lomond and he fixed it in one hour. Henry put in a new water pump and it runs fine now. This was after Mountain Mechanics said the water pump was fine. read more

Chris and his guys at Mountain Mechanics are great. I live around the corner, but didn't go here until we got a gift certificate at a silent auction, and I've never been anywhere since. They are reasonably priced, don't do work you don't need, are great at diagnosing problems and making suggestions, and the work they do is excellent.
