I had high hopes with this place being under new ownership and good reviews but it was worse than ever and definitely the worse place for an overpriced pizza in Nevada County! For starters, I placed my order around 3pm for 5pm and got there about 5:03. There was one person ahead of me and after the cashier helped them they just walked away without even acknowledging me. I let them know I had placed an order and added a drink and salad bar. She gave me those with no mention of my pizza and how long it would be, no number or anything. I walked back up 15 minutes later asking if I needed a number and apparently she set it on the counter while I was trying to get my salad but without mentioning it. Getting a salad was a huge task and killed my back (I'm 5'9" and in my 40's). The salad bar was about 3 ft high with huge glass covering everything about 3 rows back and 3ft away and I could barely reach anything after bending way down. The lettuce was only iceberg and not very fresh and $10 for 1 trip! My pizza finally came out 25 minutes late and the person dropping it off was walking away really fast, I wanted to say thank you but all I could get out was "that's not right." as it was not made the way I ordered it. Her response was "I'll go check" as if it was possibly my fault. This was around a $45 pizza for a large. She came back 15 minutes later with a Luke warm pizza with hard crust and with what looked and tasted like microwaved pineapple added to it and said nothing, no apology no acknowledging their mistake or that my pizza was now 40 minutes late. It seemed like they just waited a long time to make it seem like they remade it, it was bad! Just an overpriced crap pizza. It also was too small to fit the large pan so I kind of got a medium at the large price. They only had one trash can that was literally overflowing. Yes, it was a Friday night, yes it was busy, but that is no excuse for bad food and poor service at a steep price. The arcade that costs 6+ credits a game (I think $5.25 for 20 credits so basically 3 games) does not make up for this! Also, with the new cheap tables and chairs it's set up to pack way too many people in there and it's uncomfortable to try to walk around. $27 for a medium "specialty" pizza boasting 12 slices? This proposition definitely peaked my interest, especially since my kiddos are so particular and actually agreed on something. I have read some reviews that are saying this restaurant is overpriced and they complain about nitpicky things. I believe the last review complained about the chairs to sit in. They just replaced all the tables and chairs and the entire restaurant looks great. They are trying to allow more people to come in and enjoy their pizza since it is very good pizza. The staff are all friendly, very helpful and the owners are incredible and care a lot about all of their customers. They're very friendly. There were also complaints about the Arcade and the pricing you can't get a bottle of water basically these days for less than five dollars so expecting to do anything for entertainment for five dollars is definitely an over expectation. You do have to consider that many of the arcades are distributing prizes that have to come overseas and we all know about tariffs and what they have done to businesses so thankfully these businesses are still able to operate, but nothing is cheap these days, including the price of food and or gas so you can't expect to go out and spend $15 and get pizza and get entertainment. That's not even close to reality! I'm sure not every product that's put out is perfect but this restaurant tries hard. They put out a very good product. It's good and they do their BEST! You have to take each complaint with a grain of salt because every customer is different and some people like to just complain unfortunately. The restaurant does have a variety of games. First, the cashier tells me I have to go online to redeem my points to buy a pie and the app says I have to talk to the cashier so then she's pissed because she has to help a customer. It's really disappointing that I'm never gonna be coming back to this spot because it's been a family favorite for 40 years. Our favorite part of the pepperoni pies that we order is the Mountain Mike's Pizza sauce. So I ordered extra and we can't find any on the pizza. It's like a cheese and pepperoni pizza with no sauce. I asked three different employees and they all say they put extra sauce on it completely lying to us and would admit they made a mistake and forgot to put any on it. No red sauce again. Just threw it out. They wouldn't even refund me because I ordered it through door dash. Although I frequent this establishment on an almost weekly basis I have to say today I am very disappointed and will likely not be back anytime soon. My 102 year old great grandmother had to urgently use the restroom and when I took her in to ask if she could use theirs I was told by the woman who is always working there when I go in that their restrooms are only for customers. Considering the age of my great grandmother and the unsteady walking with her cane I would have thought they would have had a little more lenience on that rule. The food was good, but honestly, after being spoiled by pizza places like Pieology and Blaze Pizza, what we got was SUPER EXPENSIVE. $35 for this seemingly personal mini-sized pizza (was a SMALL) and some over-sauced wings. Their service wasn't too great - we didn't get our blue cheese after they said they'd return with it. The wait was ridiculous for a SMALL pizza and wings. But I do remember one thing incredibly well...the women's restroom was AMAZINGLY CLEAN! They get a star for that alone! This is a long overdue post, Mountain Mike's in Grass Valley is a place I come to often. Pizza is always fresh, the buffet is always fully stocked with tons of options, and the owners and staff are amazing and friendly! I even saw them give free change to a little kid who for some reason came to the counter asking for money so he could buy But the delicious pizza is what keeps me coming back. Try a white sauce pizza with extra pepperoni--you will not be disappointed! Each bite of pepperoni is so flavorful and the contrast with the white sauce makes it my favorite pie (for now). What makes Mountain Mike's 5 stars is the elite flavor you get from the toppings. For example, I usually don't like veggie pizzas but the Mt. Veggimore is such a fantastic explosion of flavors that I don't even need any meat on it and that's a first for me. I thought the overall cleanliness was also on par. All tables are wiped down before I sit down and the bathrooms were more than acceptable. I love the pizza, appreciate the staff, and will continue to come back. Highly recommended! read more

I don't usually write reviews for pizza chains, but it's been years since a substantial review has been written about this place, and this Mountain Mike's is quite exceptional. I've been here on several occasions, consider myself a regular, so this review is long overdue. THE SERVICE: The first time I came here, I was concerned because I'm a vegetarian and am always stuck with limited food options. Stephanie, the manager, personally took the time out to tell me about all the various options that I had, and wow, there were so many to pick from! Since then I have tried most of the toppings, and love their fresh artichoke hearts! In terms of the service, I've never had to wait more than 10-15 minutes for my pizza, even at the busy lunch hour! Very efficient! THE RESTAURANT/QUALITY OF FOOD: Since I come here on the regular, I have met and conversed with the super friendly owner, who told me that the pizza dough is made new daily. I asked her what's done with the left over ingredients for the salad bar at the end of the day, as I am veryyy particular about my salad, and she told me that it's never brought out the next day. They pride themselves here in their fresh ingredients, and honestly, it is apparent with the taste! FOOD RECOMMENDATIONS: My favorite pizza here is the Mt. Veggiemore with a white sauce and thin crust! I'm always coming back for more! THE CLEANLINESS: The tables are always wiped down and trash thrown out as soon as customers leave from what I have observed. The bathrooms, which is what I usually judge a restaurant by, are in pristine condition. THE LOCATION: This place is located in a plaza with ample parking and it's never been an issue. I found this particular Mountain Mikes to be very family friendly; there are several arcade games to keep the kids occupied if they finish their delicious pizza early on. Nice atmosphere and great customer service. Standard salad bar and pizza was actually really good (I got a Pike's peak), Really nice selection of beer on tap as well. The pizza quality has improved since I have been going here (over the last few years). The toppings are more generous and the crust was baked to a crispy goodness. The pepperoni at the edges if the pie were nice and crisp (not burned). It was baked perfectly. The service was quick and friendly. The dining room has held up and still looks good and well maintained. This restaurant gets an extra star upgrade because it's improved in the right areas. There is also a lot of new big screen HDTV flat screens around the place, so if you're interested in watching a big sporting event this is the place for it. The staff was pretty friendly and are always willing to correct any mistakes they may make, which is a good sign because no restaurant is going to run perfectly. Stopped in to pick up an order on April 7, 2020, of course, during the COVID-19 physical distancing time we're in. I had to wait for 15 minutes, most of which I spent outside. However, note what happened the times when I was inside! The cashier woman coughed 6 different times without covering her mouth, without wearing a mask. The pizza is the best of all the food chains in town. The owner is friendly if you are lucky enough to have her take your order. Some of the other staff are not as friendly and helpful. I have noticed that over the years this place hasn't had a lot of foot traffic. People are definitely eating in or opting for an alternative gourmet or plant based pizza, gluten free, etc. I dislike the salad bar very much, it's just completely helpless and boring. I think they really need a makeover but I realize this is more difficult for chain restaurants since they must market specific products and adhere to a more rigid sales and marketing model. We've been back twice in the past month. The pizza has been excellent both times. The toppings on our Everest pizza were super good and fresh. Everything both times was great and we are so excited that quality issues have been addressed. The garlic cheesy bread is so good. This is easily the best pizza in the south part of town. I have not yet tried the specialty pizzas in downtown so I cannot compare to those. Very pleased to have Mountain Mikes and the nice people who run it...in Grass Valley. read more
