Glad we found this place on Yelp! I had the French dip, hubby had the mushroom Swiss burger. Sides were onion rings (soooo good!) and tater tots. Maryam, They aren't racist. My husband & I went there & seated ourselves as the sign said. Seemed to be ignored. Then a group of ladies sat down on the other side & were cheerfully greeted immediately & served they're drinks while we continued to wait. Finally, I went up to the counter & before I said anything the waitress said she had me & would be right over. Later, she told us she was training a new girl & was very cheerful the rest of the time. In any small town across the country, there's places like this. Clustered near the offramps of our highways are the predictable chains -- Subway, Pizza Hut, Burger King, et. al. -- serving up the predictable slop that some people call food. But if you steer away from the chains, you might stumble upon quaint diners like the Mountain Quail Cafe. MQC serves up all the best in comfort food: meatloaf, chili, soups/chowders, biscuits and gravy, chicken fried steak, and pot roast. Portions are ample, but not overwhelming. I saw one diner receive a taco salad, and I swear that tortilla bowl could serve as a hat in the Easter Parade, it was that big. My daughter had a hamburger and fries combo, while my son had a chicken tenders and fries basket. Both were very satisfied with their meals. I ordered a Reuben w/onion rings. Absolute perfection. Better than the food was the service: prompt and friendly, the way it should be. The little sweetheart who took our order started by apologizing in advance because the staff was a bit short-handed that day. I can't remember receiving apologies at Denny's for its sub-par service. So my mind's made up. If I can manage to retire, I'm going to live in Quartzite, right there in the Mountain Quail RV Park, and take 2-3 meals a week in the cafe. It's that good. read more

Second visit to this little diner. After Pam realized we were there, (I waved at her) she gave us exceptional service. We had two great bacon cheese burgers with their steak fries!! The bun was toasted real well which always makes the burger excellent! I asked for extra pickles after we were served because I LOVE pickles with my burger! Pam said ,Jason, the cook, said she had to charge me 50 cents for them. I was impressed!!! Jason cared about food cost and the bottom line for his employer! Who thinks that way anymore? Anyway we asked him to come out to the table so I could praise him for the great food and his integrity in "riding for the brand"! Gave me hope for the younger generation! We will go back!! p.s. My husband and I ate breakfast there today and were very pleased with the service we got from our waitress Helen. She is friendly and gives very good customer service. Our food was brought out at the same time and it was hot unlike the service we have gotten in the past with the other waitress when the food has been barely warm and she said it was because we wanted our food at the same time. Our waitress and the rest of the staff were friendly and accommodating. While we waited for our food to be prepared my wife shopped in the annex hallway in this cozy , clean cafe. I know 5 stars may seem high for this restaurant, but really, in the middle of nowhere (OK, not "nowhere", it's actually between a few trailer parks), out in the desert, past all the chains of fast food, you find a nice independent place that's got good food for decent price. Really, you can't ask for more! I ordered the prime rib and baked potato. It came with a small side of carrots. It was great! Once again, it's hard to beat this for $15. Marta was super nice, fun to talk to, and was very attentive. So, when you're out between Phoenix and L.A., what would you rather have fast food or prime rib (with great service)? read more

Oh my goodness! If you find yourself anywhere near Quartzite, Arizona, definitely find time to eat at the Mountain Quail Cafe. It is just a little cafe, off the beaten path, but SO worth the short drive away from the freeway. My husband had the Open Face Chili Cheeseburger. He declared it the best one he has ever eaten! They make the chili there, and it is tasty! Black beans, pink beans, sauteed green peppers, chunks of beef, and the perfect spice and heat! I had the Tuna Melt, on rye bread, and onion rings. Tuna was so delicious, made with pickle chunks, and some chopped egg too. Definitely will be craviing that taste tomorrow. Save room for dessert! If you are very lucky, there will be bread pudding! I am sure the pies are good too. Pam was our waitress, and she is one beautiful soul! Kind, informative, attentive, and funny too! She even introduced us to her wonderful boss, who happens to be the mayor of Quartzite too! Stop into the little gift shop for a souvenir that supports local charities. We just stopped in for lunch based on the reviews here and had some good burgers - they even cooked mine medium rare which has been hard to find in this town (I did have to sign my name on the receipt though - not that I minded!!
