The by the glass wine was a small and not particularly interesting selection. Fried lobster appetizer really had a much too heavy coating that overwhelmed the delicate lobster flavor. Still hard to pass on a fried lobster app though. The steaks didn't have that great grill flavor we remembered. My thin cut ribeye was overcooked as well. Though my side of fries were fabulous and the clear highlight of the evening. helpful hint - ask for no truffle oil; nasty stuff, I still can't understand why if shows up on so many menus. The worst part of the evening, and probably the thing that most made us think no on another return visit, was the party upstairs. It involved a lot of very young, very loud, screaming children. I have no doubt that it was a family gathering, but it struck any pleasure from dining in a cool historical space. Gave my wife a headache, and made us bolt to the safe quiet of our car as quickly as possible after the main course was finished.

My partner had the Jack Benny, their version of eggs hollandaise but with a nice slice of ham. I also got their biscuit, which others had recommended to me. Huge biscuits are the rage but not really my fav. This one was crumbly but well baked. The blueberry jam gave it a high yummy rating. Know it is a new southern chain but hey this place and location made it feel like you were back home.

The signage is a little easy to miss, but I walked in to two friendly people eager to serve me lunch. They have a fairly large selection of hot and cold sandwiches, and a slightly more gourmet feel to the items and menu boards. I was torn between the chicken, bacon, ranch sandwich and the #1 combination sub, which comes with a variety of meats. I was encouraged to try the #1, so that's what I went with. They were happy to accommodate my modifications to the sandwich (no onions or tomatoes, please). I grabbed chips and a drink from the mini-fridge to complete my meal. The bathroom in the back is a little cramped and hard to find but clean and gets the job done. My sandwich was made fresh for me and brought to my table. I liked the crusty bread; it stood up well to the sandwich. The meats and cheese were sliced thinly and I could taste the different elements. For me, I think I would have preferred some greenery other than the shredded cabbage; the texture just wasn't my favorite. The pepper on top was also a little heavy and aromatic for my preferences. Nothing worth sending it back over, just a few small details. Overall, I appreciate the effort to create a sandwich shop like this one. I would return to try another sandwich in the future.
